They were the only company that responded when I called for quotes. They were unclear about what was covered within the quote. The contractor recommended that I speak with someone that he uses to do the cabinetry design and that person does custom cabinetry through Amish cabinetry. I was going to end up paying extremely ridiculous amounts for the cabinetry. He was unable to answer who was responsible for ordering the countertops; he didn?t know if he should do it, if the cabinet maker should do it, or if I should do it. He was sitting with a quote in hand but he didn?t know the answer. I am not comfortable spending so much money with someone that has poor communication skills like that. Also, they weren?t going to include painting when they were finished. I will say, however, that he was very specific about drawing out a plan for what would be done and he was prompt about getting back to me.

Response from Kitchen & Home Remodeling
I spent time going over the details of the project with Kathy and gave her several options for cabinetry. I suggested that she start with the Amish since the designer I work with is great at catering to specific needs. The member had a very small kitchen and wanted to maximize space and stock (box) cabinets wouldn't have given her what she wanted. I'm sorry that she decided they were too pricey, but I was trying to give her what she said she wanted. The countertop was a matter of me telling her that there were different avenues she could take, whether she purchase through my designer, myself, or her own choice of supplier, not me not knowing what to do with the matter. I had my designer go through counter options with her and choose colors to coordinate with the cabinet color she chose. I assist my customers from idea-design-completion if they need it. Some customers know exactly what they want and I just need to help them turn it into reality. Others need my help from the start since they may not have experience with the remodeling process. I am more of a custom remodeler from the standpoint that each customer has specific needs that should be met, and the desgn and planning process is a bit more intensive than if I were to just do white cabinetry, white fixtures, white appliances, etc... all day long. I don't like to tell people what they want or need, I like to involve them in the process. I have learned that some people don't know how to respond to that, some actually prefer to have as little input as possible. We all have different ways, I guess. The quote I provided for her was line itemized for Cabinetry, Electrical, Plumbing, Demo, etc... If I didn't remember a specific item or price from the top of my head, it's not that it wasn't spelled out and couldn't be referenced in the quote. Sorry she took offense to me not having an answer without having to defer to the quote. At busy times, I am quoting many jobs at once and the only way I make sure I don't mash numbers or labor costs in my head is to refer to the quote at hand. I followed up with the member weekly after all of the consultations that she had with myself and my cabinetry designer. I didn't hear from her for over 2 weeks until she asked me to wait a bit while she took other bids. I still tried to check in with her through that time to offer any help if needed. After a total of about 5 weeks without any progress or any questions she called me and let me know that she decided I wasn't the person for the job. I make it a point to ask certain questions if I don't get a job to know if there is anything that I need to do for future projects. I don't like to disappoint my customers so when I lose one, I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. I was simply told "it will work out for the best in the long run." There was no further explanation. I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to revisit the project scope, look at different cabinetry options, or talk numbers with the member she just stopped the process right there. Too bad, I'm sure she would have been happy with the final result.
