I found this company on angie's list, looked at their website, then emailed them a few times with some questions. Julie responded in a prompt manner and answered all of my questions. I already knew that I needed a new hot water heater but asked if someone should still come out first to make sure that it will fit but they said it's not necessary. I originally requested the Bradford White energy star model but when the technician (Jason) arrived he said that it would not fit unless we modified all the venting which I did not want to do. He then offered some other options (models) for venting directly out of the base of the house but they were out of my price range. So I went with the most basic model for $898 installed. They only use top of the line hot water heaters (AO Smith & Bradford White). I went with the AO Smith which is highly recommended by many plumbers and it's Made in America. Mine is working fine and it's nice to know that we can now take 3 showers in a row with all of us having ample hot water. I also had them remove an old water softener that was no longer in use but water was still running through the water pipe that was connected to it. They could not give me an estimate for this over the phone because the technician had to see it first to see what needed to be done, which makes sense. Jason quoted me $323 for removing the system after he installed the hot water heater. I had him remove it since he was already here and I felt like he would do it correctly. I'm kind of hung up a little bit on the price for this because it took less than 25 minutes to do the work and I just bought a hot water heater from them. I completly understand that he did the work and removed the tank and water storage container and it was my decision to go with it, but I just feel like $323 is a bit much, just my opinion. The "A" that I gave them for price is for the hot water heater. Overall I feel that Aqua Tech is a good company and they get the job done. Jason was very courteous, professional and patient with answering all of my questions, some of them more than once. I would recommend this company.

Customer I appreciate your review and I can assure you that I will talk with Jason and try to do something on price -- because we certainly do appreciate you -- and the business you gave us. I don't know what was involved as far as difficulty, but I will find out. I CAN tell you Jason is one of our fastest and most efficient plumbers. He is really good and we sometimes get comments about price/time because of that! Thanks again and I will be in touch today or tomorrow - - as soon as I can talk with him. Andrea

We have an unfinished basement with an ejector pump that had gone bad. We only need that pit for HVAC condensation and the humidifier. I was quoted 927 to replace the ejector pump...that was far and above what I had seen other people pay on here, which averaged 700. I had this confirmed with other quotes as well. Although I do have to say they were very punctual and professional and I actually hated not to go with them because of that but the price was just too much. I do understand the flat rate fee for service but I like to know what I am paying for and I couldn't get a breakdown of what the costs would be for labor/pump. So if it wasn't for the price we probably would have had them perform the services we needed.

Hi Member! $867after your $60 Angie’s List discount right? We tend to use heavy-duty ejector pumps because you're dealing with sewage most times and as you said, maybe that wasn’t the best fit for your needs. We may not have been comparing apples to apples. You will find on other products we are much less expensive than other plumbers, like water heaters for example. I know we aren’t the least expensive at all times; we just want to be the best. We typically install higher quality products than most plumbers --no question --and we’re available 24/7 at no extra charge if you ever have a problem with what we install. But I also understand a price concern. Please give us a chance at other services when you have the opportunity.

They set up the call quickly and the plumber was professional and neat, although he arrived at nearly the end of the window they gave me. Overall professional. Ok, it has been a while since I used a plumber but $293 to replace a fill valve, $393 to rebuild a toilet and $117 to replace a flapper seemed excessive. - just out of line on the cost. I paid him his $28 trip charge and sent him on his way. No wonder they offer a $40 discount they could offer a 70% discount and they might be in line then....Sorry never using them. Don't waste your time or trip charge unless you have very deep pockets. I don't see how they get a A rating with these prices.....

I would like you as a customer. I’m hoping you understood these were 3 different options to choose from, and not added together and the $28 trip charge is applied to the work, so the flapper would be only $89 more than you already paid. That being said, I’d like to explain our pricing because we tend to be low for pricing of reputable plumbing companies in our area who have our type of skills, training, and customer service. We use flat rate, by-the-job pricing, because “hourly-rate-for-time-spent- the-customer’s house” type of pricing doesn’t work and plumbers are going out of business. With flat rate pricing, a portion of our overhead is rolled into every call. For an example, our monthly phone bill amounts to $2.94 attached to every call per month. So you can see how that adds up. We can only do so many calls in a year (physically) which have to cover our expenses. And we pay for gas vehicle maintenance, parts, supplies, training, tools, equipment – rodders and sewer cameras, etc., phones, insurance, business license, plumbers’ licenses (unlike HVAC guys don’t have to be licensed, and have less expensive insurance), advertising AND we warranty our work. We also provide 24/7 service at no extra charge which most companies don’t. This type of overhead is rolled into every product you buy at a store and you have to drive there! We come to you! And we try to run our business as efficiently as possible, obviously. I’m hoping this explains our pricing structure, which may seem out of line if you haven’t had any plumbing done in a while, or aren’t aware of the expenses a plumbing company faces. As I said, I’m sorry I didn’t have the privilege of having you as a customer. I would like that.

I called Aqua Tech plumbing at 9:00 pm tonight because I'm having a sump pump issue. It's raining heavily. I've contacted four different plumber tonight. Andrea at this company was the only person who told me right out that while they would love to have my business, they honestly could not get someone over to my home tonight. The other companies have each promised a quick phone call and visit, and 3 hours later none of them have responded. Thank you.

My sump pump failed (again) and I decided to install a battery backup in addition to replacing the sump pump. I spoke initially with Andrea and then with Larry, who gave me an in-depth explanation of the capabilities of the battery backup system as well as the primary sump pump. TJ came to perform the installation that afternoon. He is very professional and takes pride in his work. It showed in his attention to detail. Even after he had completed the work and had put away his tools, he went back to the basement to triple-check his work. Oh, did I mention that he cleaned the work area? He left it cleaner than he found it :-) Great work and outstanding service. The price point is a little high, but I think you get what you pay for; I am pleased (so far) with what I received -- the sump pump is quietly doing its thing and I have the peace of mind that the backup will kick in when it needs to do so.

I appreciate your feedback because we analyze our pricing structure on an ongoing basis. We also applaud you for choosing our top-of-the-line unit, even though it’s our most expensive. It is SO quiet and the "in-home" warranty is fantastic -- longer and better than most garbage disposals. And it will almost eat nails! (Not quite -- but you won’t ever have to call us with a clog, and if you do, it’s on the house! That’s my commitment to you.) Offering high quality products and service at a competitive price is our goal. Sometimes that quality costs a bit more in the short run but is usually less expensive in the long run. Our main goal though, is that you are happy. If price is the issue, we have several options, one of which is installing a lower-priced, quality unit. I will call you to talk this over because we appreciate you. Andrea

When they saw the work to be performed they quickly went through the possible worst case scenarios as it is a tight space and on the second floor. The water heater with no drain plug would be over overwhelmingly heavy to take down the narrow stair case and it would be possible that if they did drain it it could spray all over. I am happy to say this did not happen they were able to drain the tank and quickly removed it and replaced it with the new tank. There was next to no mess left when they were done. The whole project went so quick and professionally i was very surprised. When it was completed they went through everything they had done including an adjustment to a switch on my furnace. I knew the job would be difficult based on how the heater and furnace were installed, I also had other quotes from companies that came in much higher than Aqua Tech. I am very pleased with the whole thing.
Description of Work: They removed a 20 year old 40 gallon hot water heater with no drain plug and connections that were not up to building code from a second floor 3 foot wide closet- the water heater sharing this closet tightly with the furnace. They then installed a new one and replace the bad connection with copper piping bringing it up to proper building code.

My parents are in their late 70's and were having issues with their 50 gallon hot water heater leaking. We new they needed a new one, but the plumbers they have used in the past were individuals and not companies and have provided cheap service. I called Aquatech, who has done several jobs in my own home. Their prices are good but they will not be the cheapest nor do i expect them to be. They have continually provided high quality work to me and my family. They not only saw that my parents needed the new water heater. They replaced the shut-off values that were over 20 years old, put in the drip plan and a pipe to the basement drain and noticed the HVAC guys put in an improper water connection to my parents humidifier and replaced that with the correct one. Also the quality of the Bradford Smith 50 gallon hot water heater had my parents comment that for the 20 years they had been in their house the water has never come out that hot and they had it on the lowest setting. If you want quality products and service, Aquatech is the company to use and the pricing is appropriate to the level of service and quality of the parts and equipment. All of their plumbers are professionals in interacting with clients and in performing their work.

Response from AquaTech Plumbing
I’m sorry you were disappointed and we couldn’t serve you. I understand you may not want to spend money on a rental property. We’ve never claimed to be the cheapest; our “claim to fame” is doing quality work for a better-than-average price. Our slogan is “Better Plumbing for Better Pricing”. Finding a leak is a crucial part of the service call. Our $245 charge for 2 hours of a plumber’s time is fair and reasonable, and lower than the majority of legitimate plumbers in this area. I’m sure that’s why you agreed before they started. The competitor charging $125 to fix the leak AFTER our guys cut the drywall and found the leak, represents such a difference in price from ours that he either did not use quality products, or did not do the same quality job we would have done, or he is doing it on the side, and therefore doesn’t have the same expenses. This was a two-man job to tighten the drain properly – one man above with the other tightening it below. Your leak and resulting mold issue was probably from someone not installing it properly in the first place. And with the mold hazard, we didn’t feel we had a whole lot of room to lower the price for you either, unfortunately. But we could have done so if you would have called to discuss it further. You also have yet to see if the problem is actually fixed correctly. If this person did that job for only $125, he may have cut corners. And we don’t. We can’t apologize for doing good work. I’m hoping you don’t have future problems with that drain. And we would be willing to give you a great discount on any future work.

A short list of why I was impressed. 1. Super clean, insisted on wearing booties on his shoes even when I said don't bother. 2. Made the neatest, smallest hole he possibly could in the wall. Explained how we could install an access door instead of drywall. 3. Asked for a vacuum and cleaned up the bit of mess he made. 4. Treated my dogs with extreme kindness- and they were freaked out by this late night male visitor! They both wanted to go home with him by the time he left. 5. Gave me the Angie's List discount, which in my hurry I hadn't even noticed the coupon on-line. 6. Hooked my dryer exhaust back up which I had disconnected in my attempts to find the leak. 7. Pointed out a couple of unrelated minor issues he saw while working. 8. Found a dead mouse and offered to remove it for me. To be fair, I have no idea if the price was reasonable as I've never had a gas leak emergency before. But I was happy to pay the price quoted for such excellent service. No one hopes to ever need a plumber, but when I do, I will be calling AquaTech again.
Description of Work: Apparently we had a gas line running under our deck. (Not to code, of course). For some reason it began to leak and it took us 30 hours to find the leak since we didn't know the line existed. The main gas was turned off on at 9 p.m on Thursday night, I needed a plumber to cap the line in order to restore the gas and have heat and hot water. Called AquaTech based on Angie's List scores. Matt showed up a little after ten, assessed and fixed the problems, which involved cutting away a bit of drywall to access the valve, removing the pipe, closing it off, turning my gas back on, and then checking to make sure all my five gas appliances were working OK.

I apologize! As you can see from our other reports, this is not the way we do business. All our plumbers are trained to use tarps and shoe covers and we are VERY big on this. Donnie was your plumber and he is usually very careful, so I’m not sure why this happened, and I couldn’t be more sorry. I wish we could have talked in April when this happened. We would have done something then to make this better for you. We are really concerned that our customers be treated with the utmost respect. Please let me know if there is anything we can do now to make you feel better about this experience. From Andrea 630-416-3555

I had about 4 different estimates on backup systems, and decide to go with Aqua Tech. Jason came out to my house and diagnosed my problem, he suggested the Sumpro system with the amount of water I have and the continual running of my main system after it rains. After I decided to go with the Sumpro, Jason came out the next day, installed the new system and explained how it worked. I am very happy with the work that was done and now have peace of mind that my new system will not fail on me.
Description of Work: I had a new sump pump and backup system installed. My sump pit is always filling up and running and I have had a couple of times where my old battery backup system has failed. I decided it was time for a new system. I had the Sumpro system with dual batteries and dual alternating main pumps installed.

I was very pleased with the service provided. The serviceman's name was Jason & he was very polite, prompt, & neat. Very professional. He did an excellent job in replacing my water heater. I had called the night before to make the appointment, and he was there at 2pm the following day (time was my request--someone would have come earlier if needed) I had also asked if an outdoor water spigot that had frozen over the winter could be fixed. The pipe to the spigot was inside an interior wall, so the wall needed to be cut and a pipe replaced. He did a great job with this. He angled the pipe to the position it should have been in the first place, (builder had put the pipe in at a straight position, which allowed water to sit in it & freeze & eventually burst) after cutting neatly into the wall & then cleaned everything up afterwards. Jason was very quick & quiet. Even my dog, who is wary of strangers, acted as if no one was there. My only complaint, if I had to pick one, would be to question the price of making the hole into the wall to access the pipe. I thought $140 to cut a 12" x 12" window into drywall was a bit excessive. If I had known, I would have done the cutting myself. But, I didn't ask how much it would cost beforehand, so I guess that's my fault. Live & learn!! All in all, I would highly recommend their services to anyone, and I would definitely use them again.

Put this company in the penalty box. I called them to have a kitchen faucet removed and a new one (I supplied) installed. The woman on the phone explained that Aqua Tech charges a flat rate travel fee of $28.00. The travel fee would be waived if Aqua Tech performed the service. No estimate could be given over the phone; only the tech can give the price. The tech came and quoted a flat rate of $388 to remove the old kitchen faucet and install the new one I supplied. This job at most might take 2 hours - he wanted $194 per hour. I ended paying the $28. I suggest folks go elsewhere to avoid unreasonable prices and the fee of $28 for the estimate.

Within an hour of my initial call Jason arrived to handle the job. Repairing a wax seal is pretty easy, but due to the type of toilet we have I chose not to mess with it. I am glad that I called Aquatech. Of course there was a reason that the wax seal failed, which led to a slightly more complicated repair - one that would have taken me all day. So while $366 is a pretty high for this type of repair, in the end it was worth it to me. Great job in every sense. Jason was a true professional.

Work proceeded just over a week from Larry's visit by plumber Jason. Jason arrived promptly and within less than 3 hours the job was completed. Main water supply needed to be shut down and lines drained briefly to install new shutoff valves 'upstream' from major work. New plumbing and fittings were done in a neat and organized manner as was to be expected. A very 'clean look'.
Description of Work: Had Larry Moore come over to look at job and any code restrictions regarding removing an existing cold water hose bib in the garage and install a new hot water line to feed a new hot/cold hose bib. New plumbing would include isolation valves and physical drain downs in the basement area for each hot/cold line feeding the new bib. No problem was foreseen.

The initial service provided was an emergency visit on a Friday night around 9 pm to diagnose the issue and take care of the immediate water leak. The service tech arrived about an hour after I called the company. I was using a wet vac in the meantime to prevent any further water damage from the water leak. After the tech arrived he determined the issue was the water softner and disconnected it to stop the leak. With the Angie's List discount of $35 we replaced the water softner and the main shut-off valve for about $1850. This was done about four days later because of a holiday on Monday and because of the weekend. The initial visit and cost of $128 was for the service call on Friday night.
Description of Work: Diagnosis of the issue causing water leak in the basement; disconnecting the water softener to prevent any further leakage; replacement of the water softerner and replacement of the main water shut-off value due to corrosion and difficulty even working with the shut-off valve.

Hi, thanks for the review! I just wanted to clarify for other Angie List member’s who may be reading this that the initial visit of $128 was for a $28 trip charge and $100 deposit towards the water softener. Andrea Moore

Badly. No work performed. Tech was a nice enough guy but company policy is a rip-off. In the current competitive market for plumbing work, Aqua Tech acts like they're the only plumber in town! Not worthy of Angie's List. Bad business. Unethical. "Ask about Angie's List Discount"? No Angie's List discount was offered.
Description of Work: Called and emailed the company over the weekend with specific details of the leaking pipe. (Most plumbers that offer After Hours Servic answer calls on the weekends.) Received a call back Monday morning and the lady would not give me any pricing over the phone or hourly rates except a $28 trip charge. The technician spent 5 minutes in my house and said he had to go to his truck to refer to his list to determine the charges because everything is "Flat rate, By the Job" not hourly. He quoted me over $400 to fix the leak and fed me some bull that saddles are illegal and my ice maker connection had to be completely reworked with a T valve and my entire house had to be drained. I asked him why he couldn't have told me a ball park over the phone and he said the recptionist is not allowed to ever quote over the phone. So basically, we all have to pay $28 for a technician to drive 2 miles (Aquatech is 2.2 miles from my home) to refer to a sheet in his truck. Ordinarily, the list might be of use to the receptionist fielding the calls, but then Aquatech wouldn't make any money on their $28 estimates. "Free Estimates", my fanny!

$28

Response from AquaTech Plumbing
I’m so sorry! Our e-mail was down & we called as soon as we were aware. You have several concerns and I’ll address those: 1)Our Angie’s List profile indicated free estimates, which we do. But this is for larger jobs like remodeling or sewer excavation or a tankless water heater – where a true estimate is needed. I have since changed that to “Ask for Details” on our profile, because a simple “fix-it-now” call like yours, fixing a leak, is a service call, and for those we charge a $28 trip charge which is waived when the customer has us proceed with the work. So very few customers ever pay the $28, because 98% of them have us do the work. Some plumbers charge $59 -$129 just to come out, and don’t waive it, so we are on the low end of the price spectrum. 2) A plumber is bound by his license to let you know if your existing plumbing is not up to code, and what it would take to bring it up to code. A plumber who doesn’t do this can lose his license. So I’m sorry if that amount sounded high to you, but our plumber was “doing the right thing.” We don’t have to worry much about competition BECAUSE we do the right thing and our customers call us back again and again. 3) Our receptionists don’t quote over the phone because they are not plumbers and can’t see what the work would entail. Many companies will tell you a low price by phone & charge more when they get there. We will not do that. We will only give accurate prices once we know what is involved. That way there is no misunderstanding. 4) We don’t make money on $28 trip charges. With the price of gas and insurance and maintenance, this is not a money-making proposition. We make money by offering good service to customers which we would have loved to do for you. 5) When you were so upset with our plumber, he found it difficult to finish your conversation and get to the point of offering you a discount. We give all Angie’s list customers a discount and would love to have given one to you. I’m sorry for such a misunderstanding of AquaTech, what our mission is, and how important customers are to us. I am available to talk about this at any time. Andrea Moore, VP

I experienced anoying hot water temperature fluctuations in winter months due to gas pressure to my continuous flow hot water heater. Called the gas company and they advised running a dedicated gas line into my hot water heater separate from my furnace. Called this company for a quote. Technician was a bit resistive of gas company's recommendation but eventually agreed. Price was high but I needed to get it done so I agreed. I was shocked when they wouldn't honor Angie's list coupon for $35 off. Overall will probably call another plumbing company next time.
Description of Work: Company ran a dedicated gas line in for my continuous flow hot water heater.
