Advanced Fence & Gate

We were very happy with the knowledgable person who came out for the initial quote and the workers who completed the job. The price was very fair and the workmanship appears solid. We especially liked that the workers used good pieces from damaged sections as parts for sections that needed repair. We had 3 other companies come out and none of the others offered this option and their prices reflected it. When we replace the entire fence, we will definitely go back to Advanced Fence.

This is the second fence I had installed by Advanced. The first was last fall. Todd came out (this time) and measured the new fence area. We also spoke about coordinating the posts and fence installation with a new patio I was having poured. It was not problem for Todd and Advanced and his crew came out and took out the old chain link fence and installed the new metal posts. A couple of weeks later, after the concrete had been poured and was set, his crew came out and installed the new fencing. The crew was wonderful and they and Todd were more than responsive to my concerns and needs. I would not hesitate to use them in the future and I would not hesitate to recommend to everyone I know. Wonderful to work with. Thank you Advanced and Todd, it was a pleasure doing business with you (again)!

Arrived on time and got the job done in a day. The old fence is gone. The new fence looks great.. I was impressed with the skill the workers had cutting the boards to curve the top edge of the fence. I made a mistake when I did not listen to the installer when he recommended hinging the gate to open in to the alley. He was right. It should have opened into the alley, I did not like where they put the dirt and concrete that was removed to install the new fence posts, but this was a very minor problem. They did haul away the old wood. I suggest that if you are replacing an old fence, be sure to ask if everything removed will be hauled away.

Short review: Advanced Fence & Gate's quality and service are absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend them. Long story: My neighbor and I decided it was time to replace the chain-link fence between our yards with something higher and more private. I had no preference as to material, but my neighbor liked the look of vinyl fencing, so that is what we agreed upon. He looked into purchasing fencing from one of the big-box stores and installing it ourselves. The cost for materials was very high, and we ultimately decided that we should hire someone to do it because if left as a DIY project, we'd wind up with a stack of fencing from the store just sitting in a pile in the yard. I requested an estimate from a person who had done fence work for several of my family members. He does good-quality work and his costs have always come in below other contractors, but he is often booked far in advance and I wanted someone who could get the job done within an 8-week window during the summer. I did some research, finally turning to Angie's List once I knew what was out on the market and available to us. Advanced Fence & Gate had some good reviews, so I placed a request via Angie's list. I had a reply from them within 30 minutes! Rachel confirmed that Advanced did provide service in my area. She was also up-front about how long it would take to get an estimator out to our house, since it was late spring and their busy season. It was supposed to be 4 weeks, but it wound up being just 2 weeks (it helps to be available during the week and not just evenings or weekends). She also let me know that if an appointment opened up even earlier, she would let me know immediately. The day of the estimate, Todd arrived promptly (early, actually; he called me from his earlier estimate to ask if he could come by because he'd had a cancellation), listened to what we wanted, took measurements, and showed us the product he had available. We had the estimate in our email inbox in less than 24 hours. It was broken out with costs easily listed and read, including gates with and without locks, since my neighbor wanted them and I did not. Rachel was very helpful where permitting was concerned. Since we live in Chicago and we are a residence and not a business, we had to obtain the permit ourselves, instead of Advanced obtaining it. (Codes state that 6' fence needs a permit here.) I figured that would be a long, drawn-out, hair-rending process. Rachel told me that the city had the permit application online and that I should check it out. I did, and I had the permit applied for, the fee paid, and the permit printed within 30 minutes of starting the process. Everything was online, start to finish. I was amazed. Rachel kept us apprised of the progress of our order. Once the contract is signed, payment for half the total amount had to be made so that the materials could be ordered. Payment may be made by check or credit card. If paying by credit card, the client (not Advanced) pays the credit card fee that the credit card company charges the merchant. That was made clear in the documentation we signed, though, so it did not come as a surprise to us. Because our gangway was very narrow and we needed two gates there, the gates were a challenge. Todd came out a week or so after taking the initial measurements because he'd been trying to figure out how to make the gates "work" with our setup and he wanted to be even more thorough with the measuring. We appreciated that attention to detail. Our fence was ready about 2 weeks after the order was placed. They contacted us immediately to set up an installation date. The crew showed up midmorning (10ish), pulled the old fence, and installed the new fence, finishing by 7pm. We had about 60' of fencing installed, including posts and 4 gates. They kept the work area clean, made sure it was neat once finished. Some of the pieces weren't packed properly when shipped from the manufacturer, so there were scratches and dents on a couple of them. The installation crew noticed it, called a supervisor out to have a look, and then they rang my bell to show me the damage. It was made very clear that this would be taken care of on their end, with no additional cost to us. The fence went up without a hitch, defects and all, while the order for replacement parts was placed. The replacement pieces were installed exactly 7 days later. (Took about 15 minutes, tops.) The installation crew showed us how to work the latches. They checked the keys in the locks. They showed us how to adjust the tension in the hinges on the gates so that the gates would close with a slight push and didn't need a slam or hand guidance all the way to the close. They even adjusted one of the locks on their return trip, after my neighbor found that he had trouble turning the key in the lock. It has been 2 months since installation and the fence and gates look great. I am very thankful for the high quality of the work and for the attention to communication with clients that Todd and Rachel give to the business.

No work was completed and they have failed to get back to us with a proposal. I will not use them under any circumstance.

Called to get an estimate for tearing down a length of wooden fence. They were not interested in my business since it was such a small job. I found this disappointing but was glad they were honest about it and didn't waste my time.

The total project went well, very smoothly. The fence looks outstanding, very high quality. We will definitely use Advance again.

The customer representative was prompt an courteous. He was able to hand me the estimate before he left. The price was competitive with two other estimates I received.

They were busy so we needed to wait a couple of weeks to get an estimate. When they did come out, the estimate was done professionally. The installers were courteous and professional and worked hard. However, the quality of the work did not meet my expectations given the rave reviews I read on Angie's List. Some of the lumber used was not up to snuff (they did willingly replace one piece for me when I pointed it out), there were numerous pencil lines where they had measured, the caps on top weren't quite centered, and the clean-up, although not bad, was not great. Finally, they had failed to account for the hardward needed for a somewhat unique aspect of our job (a special kind of gate) even though it was in the diagram and bid. Following up with Advanced was not convenient to try to get the gate finished properly. We played phone tag and it took more time and effort to reach them than I expected. In sum, not a bad experience. The fence looks good, particularly if you don't look real closely and critically, and they are nice people with integrity and professionalism. However, for all the reasons stated above, I don't think that they deserve the rave reviews they have received; I would overall put them at a B or a B-. I might use them again, but first I would look for other alternatives to see if I could find something better.

From start to finish this company was perfect.. They came out quickly and gave me an estimate and once the contract was approved and sent in, the work was completed within 10 days. They were always on time and very professional. They cleaned up everything and left me nothing to do but sit back and enjoy the new beauty and smell I might add of my new fence. It's beautiful!! If I ever need any kind of work like this done in the futute, Advanced is going to get my business and any other business I can send their way. Thank you again Advanced fencing!!

I called this company to get a repair of my fence. They told me that they had a minimum charge of $450. I appreciate the honesty but was disappointed that they wouldn't do the work when they're listed as doing repairs. Very pleasant to talk to on the phone.

We were able to find some closure regarding a difference of opinion. Thanks for taking the high road!

We needed to replace our old and rotting fence. We chose Advanced based upon Angie's reviews and the thoroughness of Advanceds proposal. While their price was competitive with another company, we felt that they would do a good job. On the scheduled date, two workers arrived on time with a truck piled about 6 feet of boards. Within an hour, they had unloaded the truck, removed our existing fence. A few hours later, they had the new posts installed. A thunderstorm delayed them in the middle of the day for 2 hrs and we thought that the job would extend over until the next day but they were able to move fast and had everything done before dark. The new fence is beautiful and we've actually had numerous compliments from friends and neighbors.

This was our second time using Advanced Fence. We wanted a modern fence, and Todd walked us through the options and really listened to our concerns. He gave us tons of options, and explained the benefits and short comings of the different options. One of which was that fence needed special planning to accommodate changes that would need to be made once a separate construction project was undertaken and completed. That project is done, and we were able to make the changes ourselves without any problems. It's a year later, and we are still getting complements on the fence. Our next-door neighbor actually screamed "it so beautiful!!!!" and told us she loves seeing it from her porch. Todd and the crew are great to work with, always on time, professional, and even fun. In fact, we are planning to replace a front gate this summer, so we'll be working with them a third time and are looking forward to it.

Excellent e-mail appointment set up and follow through. Andy arrived promptly for the appointment and gave two options as requested. Unfortunately, another expense for the home has taken precedence at t his time. I will definitely re-consider Advanced Fence when ready to install.

I liked the price, quality and salesman. The salesman was really professional. They actually responded to me and answered all my questions; nothing was too dumb to ask. He didn't mind me bothering him a million times. He was extremely patient and knew exactly what he was doing.

From the start, Todd Kopke gave us an excellent estimate for the work to be performed in great detail. His workers were a pleasure to work with and showed extreme professionalism. They pointed out several aaditional pieces of fence structure that were well advised; which we had done. The additional columns we needed was an additional expense, but I had expected this. We were much surprised on how littile the additional costs were. All in all I would give the whole staff a far greater grade than the A+. When I discovered a flaw in one of the boards, Ted Kopke had a service crew to replace the board with in a couple of days. I could not be happoer with their response even answering my questions about the gate locking mechancs. I would recommend these people to any one!!!!!

I called Advanced Fence in mid-April to get an estimate and was told that they were very busy and it would about 10 days before Todd could come out. I got three other estimates in the meantime and Advanced was the last one I was going to get. Todd showed up the day of the appointment early (always a plus) and gave me an estimate on the spot. It was a very competitive estimate and we decided to go with Advanced. Todd had said that it would be 2-3 weeks before they could get it done as they were backed up due to the rainy weather. To my surprise, he called a week later and said there was an opening that week and they would get it done. The guys that came out were very professional and got the job done quickly and neatly. It was a great experience all around and I would absolutely recommend Advanced Fence to anyone in the future.

These guys are complete professionals. The owner's (Todd) intial presentation was impressive and their estimate competitive, so we chose Advanced. Todd remained available to address our questions and concerns throughout. The crew was punctual, diligent and fast, but most importantly, they did GREAT work. Our neighbor told us that we have the most beautiful fence he's ever seen. I highly recommend Advanced Fence without reservation.

I used Advanced fencing 2 yrs ago to fix rotting posts and planks on fence. Called office again this year to fix additional posts and originally said it would be 3 weeks due to weather and busy work load. Talk to Todd after contract was sent in and he said he had time to do it the NEXT DAY since it wasn't a big job. Thanks Todd. They came on time, did a Great job posting in cement, cleaned up and left garden unharmed. Couldn't even tell they were there. They have the best prices (I checked 4 others) and are very professional. We had a question after they were finished, left message at office over the weekend and Todd called back first thing Monday morning. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them for fence work.

Excellent experience. I had no trouble making an appoitment. Todd, the owner, was on time to measure the project area. Within a day or two, he provided a competitive estimate. The start date of the project was delayed by about 2 weeks because of the weather. But was soon as we got some warm sunny days, the crew was on a Friday morning to set the posts and worked all the next day (Saturday) to install the fence. It looks stunning and I have received many compliments. I am very happy!
