After looking for a replacement to store bought-retail gutter guards for some time, I did some internet research and visited a home improvement show to see some commercial grade products. Appointments were made with several companies including Gutterglove, which sells and installs a gutter guard that fits over your existing gutters. They explained how their product is manufactured and installed, and answered all my questions. They offer three levels of guards and we chose the 'Pro', which has the highest cost, but also the best quality. Gutterglove was prompt at the estimate meeting and on the day of installation. The installation was completed in one morning and clean-up was very good. During the walk around I noticed one screw that was showing on the outside of the gutter, and that was corrected immediately. The installer noticed some shingles that had roofing nails exposed, which he patched with a tube of roofing sealant. That extra service was not even part of the contract. Since installation and while checking the performance the gutter guards, I have noticed two areas on inside corners that have finger sized holes where the guards meet. Without correction debris will work its way under the guards, and so much for never having to clean the gutters again! I have had to clean the guard tops several times on straight parts of the roof and especially by the inside corners that build up debris in front of the valley diverters. This may be in part because of the flatter pitch of my ranch-style house roof and the long roof valleys, but despite all of the gutter guard companies' claims, there is still some maintenance involved with keeping any guards working at their peak efficiency. This is why I waited awhile before posting my review to supply feed-back not only on the installation but also on the performance of the product over time. With all the mature trees on my property and the heavy Chicago snowfalls, the new gutter guards by Gutterglove are a vast improvement from the plastic guards that I gladly ripped off after years of trouble and constant maintenance.

Five workmen had arrived on the scene about a week prior. The men were under the impression the entire house was to be done. The matter was clarified with the foreman. The foreman asked if they could store the material in the yard and go to another job and return in a week. It was more important to me to have a job done well rather than insist the job be finished as scheduled. I agreed. The crew returned the following week. Two workmen, Dale and Jim, as far as I can tell at this point did an excellant job and worked long hours. I was impressed with these workman. The decision to choose Gutter Glove was based on a Consumer Reports article that rated this guard the highest among "do it yourself" guards. However when I was making my decision Gutter Glove could only be purchased and installed through their company. We have trees close to the rear of the house and the guards were important to us. Thus I abandoned my previous decisions about roofing. I wanted to have gutters and roofing installed at the same time. Tuff Shield is the roofing company associated with Gutter Glove. The foreman arrived after the roofing was done. He said the clay pot could be broken if the new down spout was put in the clay drain pipe leading to the storm sewer. I said they could try. The clay drain pipe did brake but at the time it seemed it would be satisfactory. However when it rained I noticed the rain was not entirely going down the pipe but splashing around the foundation. When I called the estimator came out and said an extension could be put on the downspout. I was willing to pay for the extension but he said nothing could be done about the clay drain pipe. I probably will hire another company to take care of this detail. After this fall season I will report about the effectivness of the guards.
