GR General Contracting

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It turned out okay. It was fine. There were no extra charges. They did the job that they were hired for. Their lead guy was very nice and he walked around the house when they were finished and showed me what they had done. They didn't put my hoses back and reconnect them.

Did perform the job but there was a white residue left on the siding. They came back 2 to 3 times and the problem is not solved. I was asked to pay extra for solution/chemicals to clean the siding. This seems to be a rip-off as my siding is still not clean! I will never use them again. you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Gordon was very professional. Overall I would give him an "A" rating. He listened to me and answered any questions or suggestions I had. He did have delays in getting the work done due to the weather, but the weather really wasn't his fault. It just caused him to get behind on scheduling. However, he did keep me apprised every step of the way as to when he could get started. He was a pleasure to work with. I had purchased the deal he offered on Angie's list and had asked him to try to match the stain with the color of the previous one which was used on the deck. He came very close. The guys he had doing my deck were hard workers and took the time to make sure the job was done right. I would definitely use Gordon's services again.

Gordon worked with us closely and was very patient while we tried to figure out a color to blend in well with the house, it's trim and the screened in porch. Caesar and his crew did a wonderful job with the deck. They had to do it piecemeal because of a rainy season. When we left for vacation only the power washing and sanding had been done. When we came back everything was beautiful! We would recommend Gordon and his employees for other work also and certainly plan to use them whenever the need arises. It was such a positive experience!

We were very pleased with the work performed by GR General Contracting. We purchased the big deal last June 2012. Gordon came out and reviewed the work needed to be done and gave us an approximate start date. He and his workers were alwayas prompt; if there was ever a delay in his arrival time he always called ahead of time to advise us. He was always open to any changes requested as the work progessed. Gordon and his workers were very professional and did excellent work. They were courteous and considerate at all times. They did a great job. We would definitely use his services again.

Gordon Rudd is a pleasure to work with. Number one is the communication he gives the customer. He makes sure to call ahead of time to let you know when to expect him or his employees. He lets you know when the work will be done and any adjustments in the timing that need to be made due to weather or other factors. He also uses email effectively. He checks in to be sure all is going as you expect and if there are any concerns. Our phone calls or inquiries were promptly returned. With regard to our deck, it looks great!!! Gordon's employees were very pleasant and professional. It was clear that they wanted us to be happy with the work done. Staining of the deck was done evenly and neatly. The repairs were done expertly. The lighting he used to replace our old was just what we were looking for; simple and practical. To sum it up, we will definitely use GR General Contracting again. In fact, we have another project in the interior of our home we have asked Gordon to work on.

The deal we bought was for deck restoration from GR General Contracting and was to include pressure washing the entire deck surface, allowing the surface to dry thoroughly and return the next day to sand and prep the deck, applying a solid stain in our choice of color and returning the third day to apply a second coat of solid stain. Since our deck included a tall skirt around our pool we were aware that square footage beyond 240 sq. feet would be charged at the discounted rated of $4 per square foot. When we scheduled the job, we did let Gordon know that some boards needed repair and that since we were taking down the rest of our enormous deck, that there were plenty of boards he could use to make these repairs. We were willing to pay an upcharge for the service. Gordon never came out himself to look at the deck and discuss what needed to be done. We did not want to just paint over the deck ? we wanted it restored. Gordon originally scheduled the job for 5/31, 6/3 and 6/4. On 5/31 they power washed the deck floor only. It rained quite a bit during the next week or 10 days and when we called, after the rain had stopped, to ask when they were coming back to do the rest of the work Gordon said he would have to do me a favor and push me in front of many others. This was after playing phone tag with him a lot. The deal said they would sand the deck. We took this to mean that they would sand the entire deck (this was the reason we purchased the "deal" in the first place!). They did more of a spot sanding job ? the area outside the deck rail was never sanded and the solid stain they applied flaked off of these areas immediately. When we called to complain, Gordon said that it would have cost $7,000 to $8,000 dollars to sand the whole deck. They did not sand the vertical boards at all but we were charged the full upcharge for the additional square footage. We discussed with his workman the few boards that needed replacement and he told me that it would not be a problem to replace them. This was not done and when we complained, they came back and replaced one board. The deal said that 2 coats of stain would be applied but only one coat was done. We were told we didn?t need a second coat?probably because Gordon said he had to ?eat? $100 dollars worth of clear stain that they bought and decided not to use. They had us initial the choice of stain. If they didn?t want us to use a clear stain, why did they show us those colors in the first place? In the past, we always used clear stain on our deck and it has always covered. Did they insist on a solid stain to mask the poor job they did on power washing and sanding? This was hardly a deck restoration!

Used a Big Deal to get going on refinishing my deck. Gordon and his team did a great job. The weather wreaked havoc on the scheduling such that the project got delayed a few days. I would have appreciated a phone call about it, but the delay was understandable and Gordon got his team back as quick as the weather would allow. The deck looks fantastic with the new coat.

They came at exactly the time scheduled. It took a couple hours for the two man crew to finish. The only problem was a broken louvre on one vent that they broke.

Frankly, I'm not sure Exterior house power washing is a service GR Contracting really wants to provide. The individual who performed the work was quite professional and helpful about what GR could do with other parts of my house, deck-building, etc. But I was not impressed with the lack of equipment (a tall enough ladder) to adequately wash both stories of the house, or a leveler for the ladder since my house is on the side of a hill. He kindly pointed out when reviewing the job that he wasn't able to get the sprayer up to certain parts of the house. I didn't complain since I understood this to be a discounted service, but I will not use GR Contracting for Exterior power washing again.

It is still not done, still waiting.

Gordon and his crew were very professional and accommodating. Rainy weather caused many scheduling challenges for Gordon and he was very good about staying in touch with us regarding the projected date for our project. We had neglected our deck for a few years, and it needed much more power washing than they had anticipated. Paul did an excellent job, with no complaining, even though he was doing it in the rain with temps in the 50's. Paul and the 2 young men who came to do the staining were all very prompt and very courteous.

I had a two man crew that worked on putting together a new ping pong table. The did a good job and finished a little early.

We had a bit of a challenge scheduling the work, but Gordon was very nice and accommodating when trying to work out a schedule. The two workers who came to our home were very nice. They walked me around the house and asked me to point out areas of concern. The house looks fantastic! It looks like we had new siding put on. I highly recommend them and will be using them again.

It's companies like GR General Contracting that make me glad I joined Angie's List. From the time that Gordon inspected my deck till the time the stain was applied, everything was handled professionally and courteously. There were some rain delays but that's to be expected when the work is being done outdoors during a particularly rainy stretch of weather. Gordon was quick to reschedule when a delay occurred. It seemed like "over and above" was GR's motto as they took care of some maintenance that wasn't on the estimate. My deck looks great. I couldn't be happier.

Bought coupon for services through Angie's List. Had a hard time getting company to respond and to schedule the work--finally resorted to email. First man scheduled showed up on time, worked 5 hours but didn't finish. Told me someone would come back in two days. Again, had to email owner because no one showed up. The next day two men showed up in the afternoon and finished the job satisfactorily. This was too much of a hassle even though work was completed satisfactorily and at a fair price.

Employees came to power wash the deck & didn't do a large section of it. They also didn't do a very thorough job in ensuring dirt was properly removed. Came back again to sand & apply stain. I pointed out the areas that hadn't been washed & they told me not to worry as they would sand it. They sanded the railings & I assumed they were going to sand the rest of the deck as that's what has always been done in past restorations. They never sanded any of the deck boards including the areas that weren't power washed. The stain application is now uneven & the areas not power washed are a different color & still tacky 1 week later because the surface wasn't properly prepared. There is a huge difference in the way the railings look compared to the deck boards. We had a lot of rain last night & the railings that were sanded look fine as the water beaded up like it was supposed to. On the rest of the deck, the water seeped into the wood or pooled on top. I am really disappointed in this contractor. His employees would say one thing & he would say another or they would say they were going to do something & didn't. I did not have them back to put on a second coat as the wood wasn't properly prepared to accept the first one.

Very polite and flexible when setting up and rescheduling service date. I ultimately didn't need the service and canceled and that also was handled very professionally.

I got several bids for my project, and Gordon was the lowest. He had a good knowledge of the work I needed done. He started the project on time, and kept me informed throughout the process. Everything he installed looked very professional, and he didn't take shortcuts. Both bathrooms and my kitchen cabinets look beautiful. I would highly recommend G.R. General contracting, and I plan on using them myself in the future. Thanks Gordon.

We hired Gordon to do a small renovation on our kitchen. I contacted him by phone about an estimate, and he was able to come out that same day. We had a written estimate within 24 hours, and the work was started exactly one week later. Gordon himself, along with another employee, came out to do the work. It was nice to have the actual owner be the one to show up, as many times in the past we have hired people only to have the owner do the quote then send other people to do the work. They showed up on time, and got started very quickly. He explained what they would be doing, and asked for my input on several things. They started by cutting a large "pass through" in one wall between our kitchen and dining room, They added new drywall and patched everything the first day. In addition to that, they disconnected an existing electrical outlet in that wall, and added a new one in the adjacent wall. They also installed a couple of new 30 inch oak cabinets for us. We are beyond pleased with how the work has gone thus far. They need to return next week to do the "finish work" - sanding the drywall compound, adding a second coat, sanding again and priming for paint. I wish I had known about Gordon's company before we purchased our new counter tops, as I would have hired him for that job as well. We have several other jobs that we will hire him for, including repairing the deck at our little lake house. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to friends.

Gordon was able to fit me into his schedule quicker then I expected & completed the job as promised. In addition to completing the job as discussed, Gordon put trim around the door and caulked it. This is a temporary wall until we finish the basement, I greatly appreciate Gordon going the extra mile to make it look nice even if it is temporary!!!!

I had called two companies for a estimate for some outside wood rot I had on my home. Gordon had called me that same day and actually due to my schedule made a point to meet me later that afternoon to look at the work. He was able to give us a couple of suggestions as far as the proper fix and scheduled work the next day. His crew arrived on time, were very polite and courteous and the work was finished professionally and in the budget and time frame Gordon had quoted. I'm very pleased with not only the work that was performed, but that I finally have found a contractor that does everything and that I trust. We will be contacting them in the summer for a deck build

I cannot recommend Gordon Rudd highly enough. Completely, totally honest. Very high standard of work with genuine concern that you are satisfied. I already have him lined up for some more work beginning this spring. Angie's List is to be thanked for having him as one of their listees. Simply, the best. Hire without reservation, then sit back and enjoy the experience. Believe me, like you, I have been down the road with the other type of handymen and contractors. A great find.

I purchased this Big Deal for winterization of 25 windows and 3 doors on 11/9/12 for $149.. Before I purchased the deal I called Mr Rudd to see if he serviced the area that I lived in. He said that he did not, but he'd make an "exception.".It's been a while so after the purchase, I don't remember if I called Mr.Rudd to make an appointment or if he called me.Either way,when we spoke he told me that it was busy season for him and that he'd call me to make the appointment.I waited over a month for the call and never received one,so I called him myself and told him that if he couldn't give me an appointment date/time, I wanted a refund. A date/time that was amenable to both of us was set. tHe showed up on the scheduled date/time and wanted me to show him what needed to be winterized. I figured that since he was doing the offer,because of his experience, he would know where the most common air leaks were.The only one that I had really noticed was my front door because when it was cold or windy,you could feel the cool/cold air coming in. He didn't check out anything, just applied weather stripping to the front door, which didn't really help much since I have the same problem that I had before. He did make the comment that most people who purchased the deal had holes or other areas where the cold air was coming into their house. Fortunately (unfortunately?) for me, I didn't have any holes,just the drafty front door, and as it turned out during a subsequent energy audit, I have cold air coming in over/under my windows/patio doors I found another company on Angies List that I will be hiring to do the necessary work.. This "deal" was no deal to me,it was a monumental waste of money.I would not recommend this company to ANYONE.
