GR General Contracting

I called and emailed this provider. I reached someone on tbe phone and the man was relatively short with me, like I bothered him at home or something. Not a great way to make a customer happy. He never called back as promised and it got too late to have winterizing done as the season was mild and almost over.

That went fine. Everything was fine. They only thing is that they weren't going to do part of the house, I had to go out there and look and ask them why they weren't going to do it, and he didn't want to stand on the roof. It's a porch and the house is above it, it's a one storey porch and a two storey house. I insisted that he go up there and he did. I wasn't so happy he was just going to leave it, he didn't tell me "I didn't go up there". I thought the price was a little high.

CALLED ME aug 19th SAID HE WOULD STOP BY TO GIVE ME A QUOTE, HAVENT HEARD FROM HIM . HAVE HIRED SOMEONE ELSE SO MUCH FOR ANGIES LIST OF RECOMENDED CONTRACTORS, I WILL NOT USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN

The first time the guy was here he said we had to remove everything from the deck which is on the second story. He came out a second time and worked around it. Did not come back for 3-4 weeks to do the staining. I had to clean the deck again before they could stain it. They did not cover anything under the deck and stain got on my brick pavers and patio furniture below. I warned them about using a roller that it has a tendency to drip. It did.

The two man crew arrived on time and were very friendly and polite. The house looks very nice now.

GR's team arrived as promised. The first day they power washed the deck and then gave it couple of days to dry. When they returned on the 13th they sanded areas of the deck that needed it. The team then applied the stain that I had chosen to a couple of balusters and asked me to take a look to see if it turned out the way that I expected. It wasn't what I wanted so they left to get different stain that they felt would meet my requirements. When they applied the second stain it was good so they proceeded to stain the entire deck. They also replaced a couple pieces of the Cedar that had rotted as well as repair my gate and hinges. I am very impressed with the work they did and can recommend them to anyone looking for this type of work.

I wouldn't dis-recommend them but I wouldn't recommend them either. The prices started out pretty fair but they seem to add things on as they go along. I think it was over priced.

Gordon and his crew did a great job on our basement remodel. They are easy to work with - helpful, and willing to make changes as the project progressed. We are very happy with the work that was done, and would highly recommend them.

All work was performed as agreed, with work done on our agreed schedule. Workers showed up as agreed and did the work. We are very pleasesd with the results; no surprises or complaints. In fact, our rear deck was in marginal condition, and we were concerned that it was time for a tear-off and replanking. Gordon Rudd assured us that was unnecessary. Instead, the suspect arears were removed and new sections of wood inserted, which was a substantial money-saver! Extra layers of stain were applied to bring everything up to an equal shade of stain.

We had GR General Contracting install a gas fireplace in our basement. They were very knowledgeable on the product and offered a couple of options I never had thought of. After choosing the proper unit, they had built a base, installed the fireplace and built a surround around the fireplace that looks like a piece of furniture. I can't wait until colder weather to enjoy it. On top of the look of the unit, this will now help heat our home due to the unit that was suggested. This is our second job with GRGC and will continue to use them. After seeing our finished product, our neighbors are now having one installed by them as well.

Experienced some bumps along the way in scheduling, these blips were overcome with good communication - Gordon's team restored deck using Behr's quality products despite the record heat for that day the delivered as promised!

It took about a week for GR to get back to me on a pre-purchased package. By the time someone could come out, I was out of the country and had to delay for another 3 weeks, but my schedule is very fluid, so that was really no big deal. While they were nice enough kids, I wasn't thrilled with the timing or professionalism of the crew. 3 "20-somethings" who really just appeared to be 1 guy who knew what he was doing and 2 friends to help. As I said, Nice enough guys, but I was told they would be at the house in the morning and they showed up at 3:00 PM and promptly told me they would not be able to finish because the helpers needed to leave early for "some personal things". Took a few more days due to rain to get back and finish. The work is OK...some missed spots between boards that I needed to touch up and footprints in the wet stain that I needed to sand out and re-stain, but not too big of a deal. The biggest issue was the final overall price of an additional $775 for the 130' over he 250' deal price. $6 a sq ft is pretty high in my opinion. All said & done, the job is good, and most of this is stuff I should have ben very specific about as opposed to just letting it all go. I should have asked for a specific measurement, estimate and price for everything before they even started power washing, but I guess the pre-paid portion makes things work a little different. I definitely won't be doing that again. In the end, I'd probably use them again, I would just be smarter about it.

I bought the big deal on 240 sq. ft deck cleaning and staining from GR. Gordon's team did a great job of cleaning and staining the deck. The work was great. The guys missed out on the schedules but Gordon compensated for the delays. Also, i discussed with him the discrepancy in measurements and he quickly agreed to my measurements without challenging or redoing the measurements. I was impressed with the trust he placed on my word. I suggest Gordon to confirm the measurements with his customers upfront. Overall, very satisfied.

Save your money - if you have a garden hose and $50 you could do better than this guy. Unfortunately, there are always a few who slip through the cracks and I guess Angie's List can't police them, so it is up to us - the members - to speak up when there are problems! The only good thing about this deal was the price - but after three weeks of changed appointments and failed promises, I now have to fill out forms and waste another week to get my money back from Angies List - so IT'S NOT A DEAL, IF YOU ASK ME! I purchased a BIG DEAL on August 21st. I contacted the seller and provided three dates (as requested).He set an appointment to start on the deck for a week later. His company was supposed to high pressure off the deck, sand the remaining paint and wood, let the deck dry then apply two separate coats of stain on separate days. The day of the appt. I was in and out, but after lunch I came back and his color chart to choose the stain color was between the door. I emailed and asked when he was going to start work on the deck, to which he responded that his guys had been there and hi-pressured off the deck and surrounding area. I went and looked and it was obvious that nothing had been done. I responded and told him that there were leaves all over the deck and the peeling paint was the same as before I contracted with him, to which he said he checked with his guys and they assured him that it was done. Our conversation went down hill from there. He kept changing appointments (and never showing up or emailing after the end of the day), made snarky replies and had to be reminded of what his ad even said he would do. Example: "We'll be out Tuesday to stain the deck" when it hadn't yet been pressure washed off or sanded. When I complained about the constant changes to the appointment - he said "I'm still working on peoples decks from last year, you're lucky I'm getting to you!". I complained to Angies List and they said to let them know how it worked out. When he changed the appointment again this last time, I told him that I had complained and that if he changed it again I would consider him to have quit the job and would ask Angies List for money back, to which he then cancelled the contract. In my opinion - Angies List should cancel his ability to offer any services until he takes a Customer Service Class! Trust me - I thought I was saving money, but three weeks and this much frustration later, I think I may give up buying Angie's List "Deals of the Day"! Definitely don't waste your money on this guy - maybe then he can catch up on finishing the work for some of his "other" customers.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, they were very nice. They came back because we had an issue. If I called them they would come back, they were very nice. Our house is 29 years old and there are parts where the staining couldn't come off. But there was some streaking on the sideing. There was lines created by the hose. They came on time, and did it. They came back when we had an issue. They were pretty good overall.

GR General Contracting did a great job. They sanded it nicely and put two coats of stain on. The young man that did the staining took his time and cleaned up afterwards. Everyone was polite and professional. I highly recommend this company.

They were okay. I thought that the price would be a good deal but in the end it was kind of high for what they did. They were courteous. I told them that they missed some spots and they came back and fixed those very nicely. They were pretty responsive.

Over all the job went well. We did have to have them return to do some clean up and to do some touch up on the deck. Gordon was very good at keeping me posted as to what and when things were going to be done.

I spoke with him and he set time for 8:30 on Friday morning today. He did not show up, no phone call. I got up this morning on my day off early for this appointment and he never showed.

They did a good job except they should have come to give me an estimate first. In the email I wrote to them exactly what needed to be done. We discussed concrete and that he would need to bring equipment for the job. I feel like there was miscommunication and they should have come out for an estimate first. I feel like I didn’t get a chance to check with other companies to get the work done.

We needed deck maintainence work done and contacted GR General Contracting based on the good reviews on Angie's list. We also have some other projects that we need done around the house, so if the deck maintainence went well, we would have used them for the other projects too. Things started out well. Cesar came to take measurements shortly after our initial contact call. Then, nothing. I have called twice and emailed them twice about the quote for the deck and no response. I'm very disappointed.

Gordon did a fantastic job of communicating with me as we worked through many challenges with scheduling due to the very unpredictable Chicago suburbs weather. We finally got a date that would work and the person he sent was very courteous, thorough and made sure he addressed any and all requests I made as we looked over the entire deck. He addressed every spot I pointed out and continuously said he wanted me to be completely satisfied. Mission accomplished. Thanks Gordon!

Everyone was very professional. Gordon is easy to work with and extremely honest. We were gone when the actual staining took place. When we returned the decks were gorgeous! We would most definitely use GR General contracting again for this type of work and anything else Gordon says he and his people can do!

We hired GR General Contracting to convert our upstairs loft to an additional bedroom. The work included putting up a wall and door, adding a closet and running electricity for the closet light. Gordon was great to work with, always kept me up to date and completed the project in very timely manner. We will definitely be using Gordon again for future projects.
