We had a skunk problem. We had tried various ways to get rid of the skunk on our own. When they did not work we contacted Critter Detectives. They set up a trap to catch the skunk. They came every other day to check on the trap. We caught the skunk in about a week. They were really great on following up after they removed the skunk to find out if there were any other skunks giving us problems.

I totally freaked out when I discovered these critters hanging out on my house. I had just purchased the home and it had been vacant for about 6 months. During that time, the raccoons had moved in and were quite bold...staring down at me from the roof. I called Critter Detectives Friday morning and by Saturday afternoon the babies (they were actually very large) were gone. Sunday morning someone from the team removed the last raccoon.
Description of Work: Removed a mother and 6 baby raccoons from a decorative parapet on my roof. When momma scooted off the roof, Lou set a trap for her next to my deck and captured and removed her by the next morning.

Lou was very nice, easy to deal with, and thorough in communicating their plan and how things were going along the way. I appreciated what a hard job this was, since my husband and I tried to do it ourselves first! It got to be a little more expensive than we had hoped, but there's not much anyone could have done about that since there were 5 animals to be removed. I did like that Critter Detectives only charge per animal removed, not every time they check the trap as some other companies do.
Description of Work: We had a family of squirrels move into the soffit of our house. Critter Detectives came out, saw the hole, left a trap (or two?) on our roof near the hole, and came back every couple days to check on the traps. They caught a mother squirrel and 4 babies -- some dead, some alive -- and temporarily patched the hole once they determined they got the whole family.

Excellent job. Obviously I was nervous about the number of squirrels the company removed given that there are an awful lot of squirrels in my village, but I was confident that the company used the best technique to address my particular problem.
Description of Work: Critter Detectives removed six or seven squirrels from roof and patched the hole that the animals had gnawed. The serviceman checked the traps regularly and didn't seem to mind answering my questions or addressing my concerns.

I had problems from the get go. I called them back today (6/3/08) and said I had a problem with these drill holes as they were causing water damage in my home. He didn't caulk at all. I had to get my roofer to come out to take care of that and it cost me $200. I now have water dripping through to the electrical fixtures on one of my bedroom's walls. I just had my floors redone this past winter. I have a bucket catching the water right now. When it rains, it trickles down and causes damage in my home. I told Critter Detectives about this and they repeatedly asked me what the bill was for and asked why I hadn't called THEM to fix the roof. I want this company to pay me the $200 I had to pay my roofer, as well as any additional costs I have to pay to repair the damage they did. I also want these holes fixed. I refuse to let my house go on being destroyed. They are trying to get out of their responsibility and I am at my wit's end.
Description of Work: I called Critter Detectives because I heard something in between the walls in the upper level of my home. He came out and investigated where the squirrels were getting in. He drilled 2 cages ($45 each) into the roof. I now have water leaking from the holes that he drilled. They were suppose to come out 3 times a week to empty the cages. I paid for 8 squirrels to be caught and released. I only ended up having 4, 2 of which died of heat exhaustion in the cages. He still claims he caught 8 squirrels.

We had used this company before. We have had problems with raccoons repeatedly making their home under our deck and now under our sunroom. Critter Detectives came out and set traps and eventually caught 2 raccoons. They then installed wire mesh netting under our sunroom in order to prevent them from coming back. Overall they did a good job. Prices are in line with our prior animal trapping experiences. There was one section where the mesh couldn't really be buried where it doesn't look the greatest (slightly irregular lines of the mesh and anchor spacing visible) but at least we think this will solve our problems.

I heard sounds in my attic, and suspected that there were squirrels up there. I called Louis and he told me that it was a raccoon, much to my surprise. He set a trap on my roof. That same night the varmint was caught. Unfortunately it was a nursing mother, so he had to go deep in the attic to retrieve the babies. Louis was very helpful; he used a couple of boards that I had laying around to temporarily block the hole so nothing else could come in until I could have it repaired properly. He did not charge me extra for this. He also recommended a company that specializes in insulation removal and disinfection, since cleaning the attic is very important due to the diseases and parasites that raccoons carry. He charges $95 to set up the trap, and $55 for everything he catches. In the case of babies, he gives a discount. Louis is very professional and knows his trade and I highly recommend him for anyone who suspects they may have unwanted wildlife in their homes.

Their prices were better than others but it was still pretty expensive. They were able to get rid of five squirrels for me. They showed up on time when they said they would. I had a squirrel in the house (in the walls) so they had to come and change the trap (I think they used an old one before). I had come home from work and had a squirrel on my kitchen table, when I called them they came out within about an hour. The workers were friendly and professional. I would use them again if needed and would also recommend them. The removal of the squirrels was $250 and then the metal covering that they installed over the attic fan to keep the squirrels out was about $275.

The cost might seem high but, in our case, was worth every penny. He always followed through with a phone call any time he came to set a new trap or collect another squirrel. I would recommend him and his company to anyone in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We were having problems with squirrels getting into the crawl space between our flat roof and the second floor. Lou set two traps by the area where the squirrels were entering and checked on a regular basis, despite the awful weather that we had this winter. It took several months but he trapped eight squirrels overall. He put a temporary patch on the entry hole and even gave us a discount because he was unable to come for a couple of weeks because of the snow and ice.

We started hearing scratching in the walls back before Christmas and my husband thought it was kind of funny to have squirrels in the walls and the attic. Meanwhile, I was very concerned that the squirrel might prefer chasing me and our 4 kids around the house. When my husband was away for a few days on business, the scratching moved into an interior wall and then the next day it sounded like the squirrel was running through the cold air return. The kids and I freaked out. I checked Angie's List and also asked friends that had had squirrels and was happy to see great reviews of Lou from both the list and our friends. He came out the next morning and inspected, set the first 2 traps and explained a lot about the process. There is a 30 day guarantee on his work, but I don't expect to have any squirrels come in where he repaired the holes.
Description of Work: Lou inspected the perimeter of our house by climbing a huge ladder looking for possible critter's entryways. He found 3 holes that he suspected and set up 2 traps on the roof. He baited the traps and set up some indicators to let us know whether any squirrels were coming or going. Lo and behold, the very next morning we caught a squirrel. I called, he came out that day and took that whole entire cage and put out another baited cage in it's place. He took the squirrel out to be released in "McHenry." He came to check the traps every other day, and my job was to visually check the traps every day and call him if we caught one. About 1 1/2 weeks later the next squirrel was seduced by walnut paste and a peanut, so Lou came back to collect #2. #3 squirrel was trapped the very next day and Lou came back, set the trap one last time and checked the indicators in all three holes. He came back a couple days later to check and there was no change, so he repaired the 3 holes.

They came out and examined the attic. Squirrels were the culprit. Initially thought the squirrels were entering through the power attic fan. Traps were placed in the attic. No squirrels were caught (squirrels are smart). I noticed a hole in the fascia near the roof line. Traps were placed above this spot. Eventually 6 squirrels were caught over a period of some weeks. A temporary screen was placed over the hole. So far no further squirrel problems.

When they first came out, I was a little nervous about the cost since it was $55/squirrel and there was no way of knowing how many they'd need to remove. However, after all the work and time they put in, I think the cost was more than reasonable. They were prompt, reliable, courteous, and the final cost was even below what I was expecting. I thought they did an excellent job, and I would highly recommend them to anyone having a wildlife problem. One of the things I liked best about this company is that Lou explained things to me and allayed my fears that setting traps was going to catch all the squirrels in our neighborhood. He and the other worker who came were the most punctual and reliable servicemen I have ever dealt with (and I've dealt with a lot after numerous home improvement/home repair projects).
Description of Work: We thought we had squirrels in our attic so we called Critter Detective to come and assess our problem. They confirmed that we had squirrels, set traps outside, and eventually in (up in the attic) and caught 2 squirrels. Once they were sure the squirrels were no longer living in our house, they put up a barrier around the vent where the squirrels had entered.

In general I had a good experience. However, there were two things that bothered me. Firstly, they set up traps on my wooden porch railing, by screwing them into the railing. Fine, two screw holes, no problem. But when the squirrels were caught in these traps, they proceeded to leave a series of 1/4" deep bloody gouges in the railing while trying to gnaw their way out. I complained about this, and was first told that the company couldn't control the behavior of the animals. I answered that being a professional animal control company, they should have the experience to know to put something under the traps to prevent damage. In the end, to their credit, they came out and replaced both porch railings at no extra cost, which was fair. The other issue that was very small, was that they charged an extra $20 to close the hole, I had been told that was included in the setup fee. This fee is not listed anywhere on their customer service contract.
Description of Work: Some squirrels had found their way into the space between the roof of my condo building and the ceiling of the porch. From there they found a way into the space above my ceiling in my condo. Critter Detectives gave me a quote and were prompt about coming out and setting the traps and resetting them as necessary. A total of 6 animals were trapped and at the end of the job Critter Detectives put up a temporary barrier to prevent the squirrels getting into the space through the hole they had been using. They also replaced the porch railings that the squirrels had gnawed through due to the placement and setup of the traps. When I brought up this problem, the owner was pretty prompt in taking care of the issue.

Painless. Nice people who assured me the squirrel would be "relocated" not killed. Very courteous and not too expensive - $72 to visit (Angie's coupon knocked off $10). $50 for each animal caught and another $50 to the patch hole.
Description of Work: The representative got on a ladder and assessed where the squirrel(s?) were entering and screwed two small cages onto the roof. Within a few days, a squirrel was in one of the cages and the company arrived within hours to remove the cage and replace with another. The cages remained on the roof for approximately 3 weeks before they removed them and sealed the hole in the soffitt.
