They arrived on the scheduled starting date and time. They started each day at their scheduled time, depending on what needed to be done that day. They covered the floors and steps leading to the work area, put in a good day's work ,then cleaned up each evening before they left. When the job was finished Andrew asked us to inspect their work to see if we had any problems for him to address. We were more than satisfied with the quality of their workmanship. We found Andrew and his crew, Oliver and Dimitri to be professional, courteous, neat and accommodating and would call on"Build By Design" for our next project.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and they were acceptable. They were going to come at a certain time, but they ended up coming way later. Because they were based pretty far from where we live it was hard for them to come back for touch-ups. They should have been more upfront about when we should expect to see them. In the end there were a couple of more things that we had talked about having them do, but they never showed up. It was worth it and it was a good deal for the price, but I think he was a little overwhelmed with business and trying to get to everybody. He apologized and said he felt bad. The work was acceptable, but there were some cosmetic things that could have been better. When he painted the trim white he used a paint that was not the same white as the bathroom, which we did not notice until later. It was kind of a subtle thing but the trim looked sort of blue. There was also some issues in our mosaic tile where one piece got put on backwards, but it is not really noticeable.

He came out and took a look. After several reminders he sent me 3D drawings which weren’t very good based off what we had discussed.

Big deal bathroom remodeling was offered and I received several estimates before going with Build by Design. I was most attracted to the labor only that was offered for $2465.00. Andrew the owner came and told me what he would do, how much extras would cost such as drywall, and tiled shower pan. He gave me suggestions on tiling shower wall and took measurements so I would know how much tile to purchase. I later received a material list. I picked out and purchased everything that went into the bathroom and everything was here when he started about two weeks later. He went a little longer than expected but the end result was amazing. Andrew is personable, easy to talk to, knowledgeable and the price was right. I would not hesitate in hiring him for additional work.

We were very pleased with Andrew and his crew, particularly Oliver who did a lot of the work. They were polite and professional and worked hard remodeling what was a very old and is a very small bathroom. The finished room looks gorgeous. There were no extra charges for installing a jacuzzi. They gave us exactly what we asked for. We have another bathroom and space for a third and we've already spoken with Andrew about doing those for us when the time is right. We would definitely hire him again. The one drawback was that we live in Calumet City and the company is located in Romeoville with workers living in Naperville, so that meant that arrival on the job was not consistent from one day to the next and we didn't always know when to expect a worker to arrive. However we never set a specific time for them to be on the job, so they showed up when they showed up, and we realize that we aren't their only clients. If I had one suggestion it would be to improve communications with clients. But, when I consider how pleasant it was to work with them and what a great job they did .... I definitely give them an A overall. They were careful, neat and quiet. No radios on the job. My husband is a trim carpenter and has worked for very high end clients, and he was also impressed with the quality of their work. Excellent experience overall.

WE WORKED WITH ANDREW, AND HE WAS VERY PROMPT, COURTEOUS AND KNOWLEDGABLE. THE ONLY REASON I RANKED "QUALITY OF WORK" AS A 'B' GRADE, WAS BECAUSE THE PLANS HE DREW UP, WHILE VERY GOOD, DIDN'T "WOW" ME. WHEN HE CAME OUT, HE ASKED WHAT PLANS/IDEAS WE HAD FOR THE SPACE, AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY WHAT HE DREW UP. I THINK WE WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE OUR BASIC IDEA AND REALLY MAKE IT "POP" WITH SOME ORIGINAL & CREATIVE IDEAS FOR THE SPACE. THAT BEING SAID, HE PROVIDED US WITH 3D PLANS, WHICH WAS VERY NICE. WE DID NOT HAVE THE WORK DONE, BECAUSE IT IS JUST NOT IN OUR BUDGET RIGHT NOW. HOWEVER, I THINK THE PRICE WE WERE QUOTED FOR THE WORK ($16,820 FOR EVERYTHING, INCLUDING NEW WINDOWS) IS PROBABLY PRETTY MUCH IN LINE WITH OTHER PROVIDERS. IN THE FUTURE, IF WE DECIDE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE, WE WOULD CONTACT BUILD BY DESIGN.

First please understand this house was empty while it was being re-modeled. I have now lived in this house for 6 months. The deck Andrew installed has boards that were installed upside down. Many boards are cracking and splitting because the screws were not pre-drilled. The stringer has broken off in two places and already needs to be replaced. The deck puddles water in the middle.What a mess this deck is. The elect wiring became a big worry after 2 months the inspection had not been passed. Andrew got some friend of his to come out to help him when I gave him a deadline to pass electrical inspection he had already flunked several.. I have three switches that operate nothing. one kitchen that did operate the exhaust fan that was cut and now works nothing. A ceiling fixture in the basement taken out but switch left and now operates nothing.I have 3 ceiling hall lights and no ceiling light in the living room. This makes no sense.The conduit pipe run in the attic across everything in every direction. I have lost a lot of storage space there.The outside ground runs under the gutter down spout. The tile laded in the kitchen done buy his side kick who by the way was the ONLY one who showed up to work everyday has grout that needs to be replaced the tiles are shifting grout is missing in a lot of places. This floor is a disaster. To rewire this house Andrew had to take down some dry wall and some dry wall was already missing. This is one of the worst dry wall jobs I have ever seen. The seams in several places are so bad they need to be completely re done top to bottom. The muddling job is really bad. Worst drywall job ever.He admitted he used the wrong size drywall. I payed another contractor to re do most of the garage siding as it also did not pass village inspection. The bathroom sinks were not attached to the cabinets. My husband had to take up the toilet and re set it as it was not sealed and started to leak. This was the straw that broke the camels back and promped me to write this review. I was not going to write a review but this was to much. Andrew put new ventilation for the bathroom into the roof. Yep yesterday in the middle of a rain storm it starting leaking. His contract called for him to provide a dumpster. I paid for that. He got mad when I had it pulled out. Andrew brought junk from another project to my house.Yep other peoples garbage. He was working two places but bringing trash to my house. I got nervous when after more than 2 months I could see no end to this project. Some days nothing was getting done.He told me he would work 6 days a week on this project.I took several days off work at different times to see what was getting done sometimes Andrew would not show up till 2 or 3 in the afternoon. He had 1 paid helper he would send but he worked unsupervised.He never worked 6 days as promised. By this time he had failed several inspections.More than Two months passed and Andrew had not passed any final Village inspections for deck elect plumbing or siding. He was not even close to getting this job done. He lost intrest and focused on other projects.He did however want to be paid for the work that was not done. I paid another contractor to come in to fix some of what Andrew started and didnt finish and to finish the entire project. Andrew starts projects with out finishing what he starts. Like taking apart bathrooms then starting elect then tearing up deck but finishing nothing. I finely had enough I was running out of time and paid him off just to get rid of him. Andrew thinks he was under paid. Once he had most of his money he started to not show up to do work on house. When I confronted him about this he admitted he was looking for other work. What a joke. We agreed to a final price and I paid him so I could get the house done he was not showing up anyway. 30 grand later I was rid of him.This was my 1st major remodel and lesson learned.I also think this was to big a project for Andrew. He had to little help and not enough all round knowledge. I do not know how these people can rate him an A. It must be a different Andrew. I didnt want to do a review but people tell me that I should warn others about his work. Consider yourselves warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Build by design came out on Febuary 19th 2013 Andrew had stated that this project would take a maximum of 3 weeks from start to finish. Andrew started the demo of the old kitchen cabinets and walls- evrything seemed to going as planned for 2 days. After demo the electrical part was started. Andrew had stated that he would be onsite from start to finish of the project-(Not True) he ended leaving one of his young apprentice by the name of Dimitry to do most of this. Andrew reassured me after day 3 that things were going well and that drywall was to go up right after he completed the plumbing the following week. Andrew stated that the plumber would be showing up on Monday Febuary 25th and said that he did not have to be there, but that as soon as the plumber was done he'd show up. Plumber never showed and left me waiting most of the day. Andrew then called me back after leaving him VM and stated that the plumber would show up on Wednesday Febuary 27th( 3 days with no one onsite). Plumber finally showed up on Wednesday and took a couple of days to get his part done, Week 2- Drywall and mudding is being done, granite is installed. Week 3 ( March 11th - March 28th) Andrew decided to leave the country for 3 weeks, did not even inform me , practically abanded my kitchen project. The only communication that I had with Build by design during this timeframewas with his young appentice Demitry. I mean , what professional Contractor does this to a customer.I informed Dimitry to get in contact with Andrew some how and to let him know to call me so that I could get some answeres, in which Andrew never called. I did not hear from Andrew until March 19th via email. I replied and told him that the cabinets were damaged, the door was installed incorrectlty( per Lowes Warranty Rep.) and that I needed This project to be wrapped up. He did not show up at my home untill March 29th ( 3 weeks later ) and we went over all the damaged cabinets and major concerns that were not yet completed. He stated that he would get everything up to speed on April 5th and today is April 8th- he texted me Earlier today to inform me that he had started another project and that he would not be able to come and finish my kitchen until 2 PM( Never showed up), he has not yet to complete this project, He has left my entire family in shock and avoids my calls and does not reply to my emails and voicemails. I've had to call Angieslist to try and get a hold of him, but they have not been able to. Please be aware of this UPDATE This Company is not responding to calls or emails for a project that was started back in Feb. 19th 2013, I am still waiting for Andrew to complete- I posted a review of the Horrific experience with this remodel back in April and finally received a call from Andrew that asked me to remove the review and we agreed that he'd would finish up the project. We are now in June and he has showed up once since. I really don't want him to even try to call me to fix this problem , I already gave him the opportunity and he blew it!! Just want to let everyone know the Truth> I will be posting the original review from April .

Andrew was prompt for our initial appt. He understood exactly what we wanted and gave us good suggestions when we needed them. He emailed a 3D rendering of what our bathroom would look like, an estimate for the job, and a shopping list. Andrew was professional and patient with us, as I am particular about how the work goes and ask many questions! Andrew and his team are all about the quality of their work and attention to detail. We are very pleased with our "new" bathroom!!

Once I received the plans, they were fine. THe main problem is scheduling appointments. Also, they needed to cancel an appointment last minute, and didn't show up on time. Once he arrived, he was very professinal and knowledgeable. It could have been that they were extremely busy.

I probably wouldn't use them.. They were one of the early people I contacted. He came back with a quote, but it took too long. I don't have any complaints. I got a lot of quotes for this work, so I am working through them. He followed up too. He gave me plans. I didn't have work done with him. His quote wasn't horrible, but I didn't have any work done. He did a 3D plan for me. I saw him in November. The plans were okay. They did not have everything I wanted. The price is not applicable. I would use them in the future. His responsiveness was good. I've talked to so many people about this from lots of companies.

Andrew responded within a few days of my purchase and came out that weekend. Andrew took measurements, discussed what we wanted in the basement and provided guidance and perspective, which was noticeable that he not only does the drawings, but also the work. Within one week we received our plans and they hit the mark from what we told him we wanted. We didn't ultimately decide to go with Andrew for the actual work, but he was one of our top three choices and nearly equal to our best cost estimate. All in all, a great experience with Andrew and build by Design.

IT was awesome. They told us what we needed in supplies and they picked them up. They did everything including taking the trash that was from the old bathroom. They were very neat and professional when they were in the house. They said it would take one week from start to finish and they were right on the money. They wrote a contract that was very easy to follow and it covered every thing they would do and there was no hidden cost. When they came and did the estimate they were true to their word.

The overall experience was good. The finished product looks great! We get many compliments about the quality of craftsmanship. The price was also very hard to beat. To only pay about $1500 (for labor only) to have a bathroom gutted and rebuilt is a steal. Andrew agreed to complete a lot of additional tile work for a very low cost of an extra $200. Between his labor costs, and our purchases (we mostly bought higher end stuff that we are hoping will hold up for awhile), the bathroom cost about $3,500. Our only complaint was that communication was a little difficult early on. From the time we purchased the Angie's list coupon to having Andrew come out and give us the material list was about a month.

Andrew came to measure the space. He was prompt, professional and friendly. We told him we wanted a decent sized storage room, a 3/4 bath and a general living space. He said we would receive the plans and an estimate in a few days. A week later he e mailed the plans and a very general estimate of cost. In addition to the fact that the estimate was very vague, the only storage area he included in the plan was a very small space (approx. 5'x 5') in the room with our furnace and water heater.

We were very happy with this firm. We may use him to do the work but will get two more bids first.

Andrew is very punctual, friendly, cooperative, supportive of ideas, accommodating to suggested changes to the plan and provided his advise to me all the way as a true professional and expert as my dream basement design layout was being finalized. I am very excited to start this project with Andrew.

We hired Andrew to do a full rehab of a condo unit that we recently purchased. The place was in terrible shape when we bought it, and we were looking to fully rehab it. Andrew provided a very reasonable quote for the job, as well as a very detailed plan of work and estimate. He had excellent ideas and suggestions, all of which turned out better than we could first imagine. He scheduled us very quickly and was prompt in responding and keeping us well informed during the project. For the kitchen, he recommended a cabinet supplier that we were extremely satisfied with. All of his recommendations for materials were excellent. The cabinet, tile, appliance and electrical installation went smoothly. The granite guy he recommended did a great job too. All his employees were skilled. For the new bathroom, he installed tile, sink, bathtub, and fixtures. He encountered issued with old plumbing at this condo building, but all was resolved fairly quickly. Andrew also installed new flooring, new drywall and new doors, and did some electrical rewiring, and painting. It was a big complex project, but all aspects were very well handled. We couldn't be happier with how the entire condo turned out, especially the kitchen and bathroom. It is now a highly functional, modern and beautiful space. Andrew more than exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend him.

They are still finishing up. Andrew is a business genius, in that he's personaable, clear in what he will offer and lives up to his word. He hires skilled, non-English speaking helpers, but is readily available if the language barrier arises.They are prompt and work respectfully to your property, I.e. dont leave things in a disaster state. They were excellent in every aspect. Highly recommend.

I contacted him about an Angie's list special. Before i ordered it I wanted him to see the job. He responded quickly said he would be happy to come out and look at the job.He said he would call and confirm the date. He never called, I gave it a few days and sent another email... no response.... another email... no response. If he is in a coma i feel bad.. but my recommendation is to avoid this guy.

Overall it was a great experience.

I contacted them to come and look at the two "small" bathrooms to let them get an idea of the jobs (complete gut and remodel). , did not order first to make sure that they would have no concerns about the job. He came as agreed, showed up on time. Looked at the rooms and the custom things I wished to have done. Indicated no unusual problems. He took notes and saw my plan ideas. Left with his notes and my plan ideas. Said they would get back to me the next Tuesday or Wednesday. Two weeks (this past Saturday 01/19/13 have gone by with no word back. He seems to have done this with a number of other people here, how can I trust them to do a good job now? This is too bad as I had showed him a number of other projects I would have had done later.
