I would highly recommend Andrew/Build by Design. We initially hired Andrew to finish our basement. He has great ideas and allows you to visual them through CAD drawings with his quote. We found him very easy to work with. When another contractor failed to show up to run water, gas and electric to the outside of our home prior to the basement being complete, Andrew helped immediately. The quality of his work is very high. Our basement already had a finished fireplace. We had leftover brick from construction and Andrew was able to use that to create a wine storage area and wood holder on each side of the fireplace that look original to construction. If we requested small changes during construction, he was happy to accommodate. Since the completion of our basement, we've hired Andrew to install crown molding and chair rail upstairs and plan to use him to make some modifications to our kitchen. There is really nothing he can't do. We could not be happier with his work.

Build By Design did an outstanding job. The team was punctual and delivered on the project as promised. We put in a theater room, a full kitchen, a full bathroom, a bedroom, a workout room and a storage area. The quality is excellent and is a great addition to our home. I would highly recommend Build By Design to anyone looking to perform home improvements of any kind, specifically a basement that needs updating.

They did a great job. We are very pleased with the service. They were very professional and punctual.

Andrew came back to do an additional job for me after he remodeled my basement. That work was great. He even put in a nice upgrade in my weight room for no additional charge. Recently, I called Andrew when I noticed the sump pump he installed was not working (the backup he installed saved the basement). I provided the pump and Andrew put it in correctly, the Watchdog just failed. Nonetheless, Build By Design came back and installed a new pump at no charge. This company has the best prices and craftsmanship to match. I wish They did more than basements, I would trust all my home projects to Andrew and his team.

The service was fine. There were no additional charges to the $75 Big Deal for the plan. We knew what we wanted to do. They were good. They were nice people. They were efficient and delivered what they said they were going to deliver. They had to get back to us. He took down measurements and our thoughts and then, he sent us the plan.

the contractor ran into unforeseen difficulties and appeared a bit frustrated. He then began to work on other projects and fit my project in which extended the project.

Don't sign up to offer specials if you're too busy.

This was the second time I've used Andrew's services. I am so glad I did. On this second use, I'd first obtained an estimate from a different Angie's List provider. Andrew's estimate was 4 1/2 times lower! And he was able to start immediately, unlike the months wait for the other contractor. His work is impeccable. Their care and attention to my home was excellent. The price can't be beat! I can't imagine it could be done for less had I done it myself. Nonetheless, I highly recommend.

Andrew gave me an estimate very quickly, started work immediately after providing me a detailed plan. He had the best price I could find after interviewing 3 other contractors. The job was not easy as the basement was full of furniture including a queen bed, couches and a 300lb weight set. I never heard one complaint about having to deal with moving that stuff around. He had a plan and it showed because the furniture was moved in stages so that he and his team could get the work done without taking anything out of the space. None of the furniture shows any scratches or damage, so he impressed me with that. Andrew is very honest and reliable, and I let him come and go from my house as he pleased. I trusted that he would only work, and that is all he did. The tile work, drywall and baseboard look great. His team also left the place spotless, so we did not have any work to do after they left. I will call only Build By Design for my home projects.

Andrew and his team did a great job. They took an empty basement shell and transformed it into a wonderful living and entertainment space. Best of all Andrew was able to do the design in addition to the construction. They built a dance room and Theater in our basement. The price was great given the scope of the job.

Andrew and his crew, Alex and Dimitri are fantastic to work with and excellent, professional workers. Good communication is key to any successful project and Andrew stays on top of things and pays attention to all details. The quality of work was great and the cost was very reasonable. GREAT DESIGN and suggestions provided by Andrew made this project very successful and we got an awesome basement.

They did a really good job at the agreed price. Came up with a good design for us that worked well, had good ideas for some of the details, quality of work was very good, pleasant to deal with, Andrew and all his helpers were very nice. Our only criticism seems to apply to most contractors, and that is spotty communication. We would be told something would happen or be done on Wednesday, and it might be Saturday or sometime the next week before it actually happened. So the job took a little longer than expected, but we were not in a big rush, either.

Starting the project, Andrew (the owner of Build By Design Inc) had long gaps between communication. When the project did start it took 10 WEEKS to finish instead of the estimated 3 WEEKS. The delays I found acceptable and accommodated for the days when Andrew would not show up (no notice) or have multiple excuses. I provided drinks and food for Andrew and his crew. When they missed deadlines and didn't show up, I kept a good attitude and made sure the relationship remained cooperative. I tried to be as communicative and understanding as possible. However, Build By Design Inc's professionalism, punctuality, and responsiveness were all severely lacking. The BIGGEST PROBLEM however is that Build By Design Inc improperly installed my shower floor. The shower pan liner is leaking and the concrete shower floor is cracked. I've had two insurance adjustors and multiple contractors (including Andrew) agree that it is an installation problem. Installation problems are usually covered by warranty. Andrew's solution was to have me pay $950 to cover HIS warranty. That's correct Build By Design asked ME to pay for their contractually provided warranty (less than a year after installation). He wrote "I do not have enough profit to cover damages like this". Now, I don't have a working bathroom. Why would I pay for them to install the floor a second time? I'd advise against using Build By Design as they do not back the work they do. Expect to pay for any mistakes they make. They don't honor their warranty.

He was knowledgeable and personable. He was on time and professional. In end, we had to many other priorities to go forward with the project but that is no reflection upon the provider.

We purchased a Big Deal for a 3D bathroom design consultation.

I purchased the Angie's List deal for 3D design on September 2, 2013. I finally got these guys out to take measurements and talk about design over a month later and was promised that the design would be sent within the next few days, especially as there had already been such a delay in starting the project. After nearly two weeks and several emails, the design was finally sent. The design looked nothing like what we had discussed. A few more messages and I finally got something about 3/4 the way I wanted it by early November and was tired of working harder to get this done than the people I had paid. It was a waste of time and money. I ended up using Lowe's free online 3D designer and was happy with that.

He did what he & I discussed, but my husband wanted a few things a little differently. Overall the experience was fine. I gave him suggestions on what I wanted out of our basement which is insulated and framed -- not finished.

Andrew and crew are great workers. They worked 10-12 hours each day to get the job done. The crew were always professional and very respectfully. They built out entire basement based off the plans Andrew drew. They framed, dry walled, painted, tiled floor and installed all fixtures. Built bathroom and bedroom. Designed bar And built the custom bar. We love our basement.

They started by scheduling at 8 o' clock in the morning and didn't show up until 9 o'clock. They left one person to do the demolition work and during demoliton they busted a pipe and had to call my personal plumber to fix the leak. The owner of this company paid the bill to the plumber. The owner was there most of the day on Wednesday and then on Thursday the crew showed up late again, and the one person working was installing insulation and waiting for the owner to bring staples to put up the insulation with. I feel that he has been unprofessional and I dont want him in my house anymore.

He was a nice guy but just not as thorough as I would expect.

They were quick and responsive. They quoted an attractive price and they stood by their price so far.

However, the final construction cost out of our price range.

I find the workmanship in the bathroom to be rather poor. I assumed in going through Angie's List we were getting an accredited professional company. We received Andrew who was supposed to be an experienced craftsman along with a helper. First it took months to get this project together which in itself was bothersome. Starting with communication in April the project did not start until late July. Andrew's communication skills were awful and the start date was continuously delayed because of other work projects he had going on. He had an intern working with him whom after the first day of tear out and shower install, he would have him do complicated tile cutting and grout work. The detailed work of installing shower tiles and the cement shower floor with liner were done by Andrew which in the end turned out quite poor. He allowed his apprentice to cut the tile, molding and do the grout work. After investigating this person's experience, we found out that with 3 years of apprenticing, this was only his 3rd tile job and Andrew was not on site when he was doing this work. The cutting left a lot to be desired. Again quite poor at best. I felt we were a part of his learning curve. Their clean up was awful. They left dust and sand trails everywhere and I am still cleaning up after their messiness. They took minimal care in respecting our new fixtures as they chipped in multiple places our brand new sink. In the end the shower tiles were placed unevenly. I am truly disappointed in their work. Andrew expected to get paid for some work not on the initial bid. I told him my wife would have to inspect the job when she got home. We have not heard from him since August 2nd. I think that says it all. I would hate to see another family put through this level of poor workmanship and would ask Angie's List to remove this company.

This is our intial review after service was complete: We moved into our house a year ago and really didn't like the tub in our bathroom. Previous owner had put in one of those cheap 1800 bath fitters that we didn't like. During that search I found Andrew's offer on Angie's list for complete bathroom remodel. We purchased the deal and I am so glad we did ! If there is one word that can summarize Andrew and his crew (Dimitry), it has to be AWESOME ! Andrew is a pro. He came to our house after we purchased the deal to take measurements and sent us a detailed breakdown of the items needed. He walked me through the entire project plan and how the work will be done. We bought the things from Home Depot and while shopping at Home Depot, I called Andrew multiple times to get his feedback on things we were buying and he was extremely responsive and helpful. The work was started on schedule and finished on schedule. They had to go up and down the stairs during the whole project and gave special attention to cleanliness and safety. After the project was completed, Andrew came by again to ensure everything was fine and if we needed anything else from him. We are extremely satisfied with Andrew's work, professionalism and attention to detail. I would definitely recommend Andrew and get his services for our future projects as well ! This the update after 2 years: The grout began to wear away. The tiles were not sticking to the base. We had contacted them to come and fix the issue but because we were not under warranty they said there was nothing they could do. We ended up having to hire another company to come out and fix the flooring. We had to pay an additional $2000+ to have the floors completely redone. I would never recommend them as I thought I would have.
