Description of Work: Krope and Son sold us and did initial installation of our Trane heating and cooling system, installation was excellent. This past winter our heating and humidifying units quit working. They dispatched a service rep. upon my call. I requested that they correct the issues with the heating and humidifying units and perform cleaning of the filtering system. Their solution to the heating system was to disconnect the combustion air pipe from the heater and operate it in a disconnect state, a violation of local code. Their comment on the Humidifier was to monitor it and if further problems arose to call them back. Problems occurred within a few days. When I notified them they indicated that they had ordered a $100 part and it just arrived I was never informed it needed a part as such I refused to take the part. They informed me that the part fails every two yrs. I have since replaced the unit with a different brand unit that does not fail every two yrs. I called Krope back and complained about the service to one of the Principles he became very insulting and said he would refund me the service call. Three months later and have never received a refund. I became suspect about the cleaning of the filtering unit (not serviceable by owner) and found out it had not been serviced. In summary, they are good at installation and very poor at servicing. |

A Trane furnace, air conditioner, electronic air cleaner and a STEAM humidifier (requested by the wife) where installed 8/18/08. All of the equipment installed is recommended by the manufactures to be cleaned and serviced every year. We did a cleaning of the furnace and air cleaner only on 11/13/09. Four years later during the deep freeze of 2014 we receive a call that the furnace was not heating. Our company, along with all other HVAC companies, receive emergency calls caused by the fresh air intakes icing over during the extreme cold. The quick fix so that our customers could have heat was to disconnect the combustion air pipe, this was only temporary until Trane gave us a solution. This the customer did. During this conversation we informed the customer that they needed to have the equipment maintained to keep the warranty valid. On 1/20/14 we cleaned the furnace, air cleaner and steam humidifier, we reconnected the combustion air pipe and made the adjustments that Trane outlined for the issue. All were working in good order when the service tech. left. $98.00 clean & check furnace, $45.00 to clean air cleaner, $45.00 to clean steam humidifier, no charge for the combustion air issue. 3 days later we receive a call from a man, who would not give us his name until we asked 3 times. He said that the humidifier light for service was on and that he would not be available till 1/29/14 for us to come back out to service it. On 1/27/14 we informed the customer that steam humidifiers have plates/filters that need to be replace on a yearly to every other year basis, that it is part of maintenance not a "part that fails every two years" and that we had ordered it. We did not do this at time of service because it was working properly and it would have been an additional charge. At this time the customer became upset again and did not want to pay for the humidifier plates/filter . Mr. Krope tried to explain the steam humidifier maintenance and other charges, but the customer believed he was more knowledgeable. As for the claim that you "found out" that the air cleaner was not cleaned we not sure how you came to that conclusion. Mr. Krope did not offer a full refund for the service call but for the cleaning of the steam humidifier $45.00. Thank you for bringing it to our attention that you have not received a check, one will be mailed to you with a copy of this response on Angie's list. We would like to state again that regular maintenance is recommended by ALL manufactures of HVAC equipment to keep in good working order.

I obtained three estimates. Tim Krope provided the estimate and he was outstanding. He explained everything to me in terms that I could understand and did not take up a ton of my time. He gave me an honest estimate and was the only one to tell me about the Trane rebate that was available. He had the best overall price and gave the best presentation, so it was an easy decision. The day of the installation, everyone showed up right on time, which is rare for contractors these days. Tim Krope, Ken and Kyle did the work. It was nice to have the person that gave the estimate (Tim) working on and overseeing the actual project, which gave me the comfort it was being done exactly how it was explained to me. All three guys were friendly and courteous and Ken stuck around afterwards to explain how everything works. They made sure everything was cleaned up before they left. I would write more if I had the space. Very, very impressed with the Company and would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Installed a Trane XV 90, 100,000 BTU, 92% efficient, 2 stage variable speed gas furnace. I did a lot of research and found this unit to be one of best units in terms of reputation, durability, performance and efficiency. The furnace is 75% more energy efficient than my 16 year old furnace. The job also included reworking my existing sheet metal, gas pipe and electrical to fit new unit. Ten years parts and labor, life time on heat exchanger. Vented to outdoor with PVC pipe. Included Trane set back thermostat. Seven Hundred dollars of the price was related to a water heater I also had installed. Total price does not include a $200 Trane rebate, which I will receive. So the price was essentially $4,347 for the furnace and $700 for the water heater.

I first used Krope & Son in 1993 to install an Amana A/C in my new home, it is still running well after 13 years of operation and has only needed to be serviced once to replace a stuck relay (which caused the unit to run continuously). I've also used this firm to install a power ventilator and humidifier (on two separate occasions). The installer arrived promptly for each visit and finished the work on-time.

The work was done professionally and timely - they fit me in earlier than expected and saved us from being in a hot house. Because they are a small office, it seems at times they didn't have customer records easily accessible to schedule future work.
Description of Work: Our home is fairly new construction and used Rheem Heating and Air Conditioning Units. The initial builder did a poor job of locating the air units and they had to be re-positioned. During a recent heat wave we noticed the downstairs was not cooling. After going to Rheem's website, I decided to pick Krope because they serviced Rheem and were close by. They fixed a blower motor and serviced the air conditioners and are now going to be used for service work in the spring and fall.

COURTEOUS AND EXPERT SERVICE. THE ONLY DELAY (1 WK) WAS DUE TO THE BACK-ORDER OF THE APPROPRIATE SIZE AIR CONDITIONER FROM TRANE HEADQUARTERS. EVERYTHING WAS INSTALLED WITH CARE AND PRECISION WITHIN ONE DAY AND SO FAR IS WORKING PERFECTLY. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THIS COMPANY AND WOULD NOT HESITATE TO USE THEM IN THE FUTURE.
