We recently had 10 windows on the ground floor in the back of our house replaced by Illinois Energy. The whole process started with a college student knocking on our door, asking if we were interested in a quote for new windows. We had been talking about replacing windows and just hadn't gotten around to it yet. The sales person who subsequently came to our house was very knowledgeable and professional. The meeting was educational for us and we decided to start on the back of the house. We were told it would be 6 - 8 weeks before the windows came in, but it was actually about 4 - 5 weeks. The two men who installed the windows were equally professional and did an excellent job on the installation. We were told it would probably be a one and a half day installation, but they were able to get it done in just one day. The windows look great and we already notice a difference. They're of much better quality vs. our original windows and also keep it much quieter inside. We'll definitely use Illinois Energy when we look to replace additional windows in our home.

Our neighbor referred us so we figured they had to be good if they'd used them before. The rep came to our house to show us their products and give us an estimate. Once we had reviewed all the products, selected which door we were interested in, and received a quote, we explained that we would think about it and let him know. At that point, he became very pushy and would not take and quot;noand quot; for an answer. We told him we wanted to think about it since it would be a very expensive purchase and he didn't seem to care. He started to pin my husband and I against each other. At one point he told my husband, and quot;you let her make all the decisionsand quot; since he could see my apprehension. After about 1 hour of going back and forth, he said he would give us a and quot;dealand quot; if we bought today. We did and are very happy with our doors, however, I will not use them again. I do believe we overpaid for our door by about 2K. Hindsight is always 20/20 A few months ago I called to get a quote on windows - knowing full well my husband would not be home when they came. They told me when I called to schedule the estimate that they would come when we were both home so I said we would be (even though that was not the case). When the gentleman arrived (same as before), it was the same story all over again. However, this time I told him thank you and good bye. I will call you if we are interested. Their quote was 3K more than the other 6 companies I spoke with. That is how this company works, they will pin you against each other to try and make the sale.

Illinois Energy told us they do not use subcontractors, they clearly did and lied to me when I asked them about it. After several talks with the owner he finally told me they were very busy so they needed to subcontract. When we signed the contract I made sure to ask if they would replace all bad wood, they said of course they would. They covered up bad wood with the fascia, it was so bad I could clearly see the gutter was not level. Didn't even need a level to tell it wasn't level. It was difficult to get someone to come out and look at the problem. The owner assured me they would never cover up bad wood, when we removed the fascia the wood underneath was so bad you could poke your finger through it. For all my trouble they gave $100 off the bill, thanks. I clearly do NOT recommend using Illinois Energy for anything.

I used the services of Illinois Energy Windows and Siding for windows. They make very good windows but I felt that they are overpriced. They did the work for me a year ago. They did the windows for me and the cost was $1,700.00 per window. The windows were of great quality

They continually pushed off our installation, not telling us what the issue was (the windows hadn't arrived from the factory). They did a shoddy job on the installation, including not caulking anything that could not be seen from the ground. They did not properly support our new bay window. Whenever we called to ask about having these things fixed, they and quot;took a messageand quot; and ignored us. After several months of this, they finally sent someone over to fix the caulking who got surley with us, because my husband had caulked a few windows that were leaking. | |STAY AWAY!!!

Called this company to obtain an estimate on the replacement of a double door at the rear of my garage. This was after a flyer promoting the company was left at my doorstep. The flyer showed installations of various exterior home improvement products at homes of varying values, ie: Habitat for Humanity projects to presumably million dollar homes. At the time of my initial contact, the receptionist had difficulty comprehending what a double door was. That probably should have caused me some concern right then. Eventually we got to the point where an appointment for an estimate was made (5) days later. About (2) hours before the estimator was to arrive, I received a phone call from him to confirm the appointment. The estimator was not quite sure what the scope of the project was, so I offered to shoot a few photos of the existing door and send them to him so he had a better understanding. Within two minutes of sending the photos, the estimator called back. He stated he talked to his boss. I was informed that Illinois Energy was a and quot;high-endand quot; company and that I would be better off to go to someplace like Lowe's. Never once was it discussed what type of door I planned to replace the existing door with. I was completely blown away by this company's arrogance. My home is located in a well maintained subdivision with home prices ranging from $300-$500k. I didn't think my home and the location would be so beneath a company located in Lombard, IL that I should deserve such treatment. This company should discontinue passing their flyers out in this subdivision if we aren't even worthy of their consideration. I would NEVER contact this company again and would encourage others not to also!

Called for an estimate to re- side the house. Salesman cam out for the presentation, did a thorough job, and scribbled some numbers on an orange sheet of paper. Then the sales pitch started. and quot;I only need $X now, and we can get you scheduledand quot;. Told him that he was our first estimate and that I was planning to get more bids. So he asked what it would take to get us to sign right there. I said that wasn't happening, and we'd be getting other bids. So he left, leaving no bid form or anything behind. 2 days later, I got a call from his office from someone in scheduling, calling to set up our install. Really?! I called the salesman back a week later, because we decided to add new gutters to the bid, and wanted a revised estimate (was still waiting for the original!). He came out on a Saturday, I explained what I wanted, and he again scribbled on the orange sheet, and wrote down a number. Again with and quot;I only need this much down, and we can get you scheduledand quot;. I said I just wanted an estimate, and he got somewhat indignant, stating that I had called him out there, and he assumed that I wanted to get this done. Like I'd buy something without ever seeing a price! He got up and walked out, and I let him go. Went with another contractor who I'd used before for window installation. Have to say, Illinois Energy's bid was about 50% higher than the final bid I went with for a comparable siding. All in all, the experience with Illinois Energy felt very much like buying a used car. Would not consider them for any work in the future, and would not recommend them to any friends.

The Salesman showed up on time and gave us a 2.5 hr. sales pitch. He told us that we could be an and quot;Advertising house and quot;and get a great deal if we acted now. While the meeting started out fine, but once he gave us the price and we would't sign right then, the high pressure tactics started. He kept asking us what we were so afraid of , and why couldn't we trust him. I kept explaining that he was our first estimate and we would under no circumstances be signing anything t hat day. He tried showing us fake invoices from Home Depot, Sears, etc. he kept leaving to call his boss, and we began to feel very uncomfortable. In the end, he didn't even give us a true estimate. He wrote out a number on just a yellow sheet of paper. No description of work to be done, no letter head, nothing. He knew we would never call once we got other estimates. He was way out of line-over twice the cost of everywhere else . My husband had been taking notes on everything he said and he had even quoted us the wrong number of windows for our house. He had kept asking us in the beginning of our meeting if we had heard about them on Angies List. Now I know why.

They were very meticulous in their measurements. They worked constantly and didn't take lots of breaks. Last year, I had my grill too close to deciding and it kind of melted part of the siding. I called them up and told them I'm willing to pay for this, how much do you want to charge for this? They said we'll cover it for free.

I spent $13,750 on the job. Their workmanship was good, but I did not like their sales tactics at all. They were very pushy. I do not think I would use them again because of them being pushy and because there were some issues with the contract. They did not keep their word. I felt they were not very honest.

The salesperson was punctual but did not remove shoes or cover them with plastic as done by most other company representatives. The presentation was polished and impressive. Then came the crucial part of price. After much tapping on a calculator, the salesperson wrote $54,000 at the top of a blank page in numbers large enough for us to see. A little more tapping on the calculator and the number $36,000, our price, was written near the bottom of the page. The salesperson tried VERY HARD to pressure us into buying at that time. For some reason calling us "afraid" to commit was supposed to convince us. The $36,000 proved to be a minimum of 50% higher than three other estimates we received. On a telephone call back two weeks later, the salesperson became huffy when told we went with another company and began another sales pitch criticizing other companies and windows. The phone conversation had to be cut short by me. The sales pressure and game playing with the $54,000 number marked down to $36,000 and the price being still 50% higher than Pella, Marvin, or Anderson windows was just plain suspicious. There is no way we would have them do any work!!

From Tom, the capable and engaging sales guy to the incredibly polite and thoughtful installers to the responsive home office people, Illinois Energy was a real pleasure to do business with. We actually did the windows first, last year and had them come back and do the doors just recently because we were so impressed with our window experience. This company is a great combination of excellent service and extremely high quality product. We have referred several of our friends to Illinois Energy and they were all very pleased with the work.

Illinois Energy started and finished installing our new windows within 3 days and were very neat and professional the entire time. They worked around our available schedule, too. Our house was built in 1986 so even though our windows were only 24 years old, they were in horrible condition with mold accumation on them. Last night we experienced a very bad storm and our house quiet and felt more secure during the high winds due to our new windows! I would HIGHLY recommend Illinois Energy for any window or door replacement.
Description of Work: Ilinois Energy installed new windows throughout our entire home in February of 2010. In May of 2010 they also installed a new exterior door to our deck. We had used them in past years for other jobs where they replaced our front door and sliding glass doors. Since we were very happy with their previous service it was an easy decision to call them again for our huge window replacement job, too.

A company rep phoned and set up a Saturday appointment to talk windows. The morning of the appointment, a salesman called for specific directions to our home. A short while later, I took another call from the company. The second caller wondered what I was interested in: windows? doors? siding? I explained that I'd just spoken to someone else, and assumed that person was already on the way. The second caller said something about sending the appropriate person, depending on our needs, blah, blah, blah. Already, I had a bad vibe. A young man named Jason (I think) arrived and presented a long lecture on replacement windows, setting up his company's product as top-of-the-line. He placed great emphasis on the company's unlimited warranty, which sounded pretty amazing. The price to replace all the windows in our very modest home was north of $22,000. BUT.... if we were interested in becoming the "Advertising House," we could get that price down to around $16,000. Only one home in their specified area could be the Advertising House, and requirements included a company sign posted in the front yard during the project and 3 weeks per year for 2 or 3 years thereafter. Also, we would have to allow before-and-after photos to be taken and write a testimonial letter. We explained to Jason that this was our first foray into the world of replacement windows. We made it repeatedly clear that we would not be doing business that day. Jason went on and on, wondering what he could do to earn our business. He warned us again and again that if we didn't ink the deal that day, it was very likely our chance at becoming the Ad House would be gone after his next appointment. We were offered an additional discount if we paid cash, reminded again and again about the fabulous warranty, and warned repeatedly that we might miss out on Ad House status if we didn't act promptly. Just to get a break, my husband and I left the room to speak privately. When we returned, we were told Jason had phoned his boss in our absence and he was prepared to offer us yet another discount. Jason was in our home for three hours! We worked hard to keep our cool while also trying to make him accept that we would NOT be signing anything that day. At long last, Jason dejectedly packed up his presentation materials and headed out. His parting words to us were, "Go Cubs!" Not exactly "screw you," but I'm guessing that's what he meant, since he nodded toward my White Sox sweatshirt when he said it. The bottom line is: if the company's product is so wonderful, why does it need a guy like Jason to wear down potential customers with the "extreme hard sell "? We won't be buying anything from Illinois Energy.
Description of Work: A alleged college student rang our doorbell and asked if he could sign me up to speak to a company representative about replacement windows. The student said he would receive some sort of credit if I agreed to be contacted. I thought, "what harm would it do to simply TALK to someone?" Besides, we HAD been considering replacement windows, so I gave him my name and number.

Agree with the questionable sales practices, as mentioned by other reviewer. I had a bad experience with not getting what we thought we ordered, and a poor installation. They had to come out approximately 5 times to make my order right. Spoke with the owner of the company several times. Did not post a review right away, because I was convinced that given time I'd ultimately be happy with the product. Had the doors going on 2 years now, and I do believe they are a good quality product. Even so, there is no way I'd be a repeat customer. I'll never deal with these guys again. I will only buy nationally known brands to replace the rest of the windows in my house.

This company had solicited us for several years for siding and windows. We were not ready until this year. They just happened to call at the time we were looking for estimates and we agreed they could come out and do their thing. The salesman arrived promptly. He walked around the house inside and out and made his measurements. He then gave us a very good presentation for both the windows and siding. It was obvious both products were of good to excellent quality. Then came the pitch. They wanted to use our house as a show house (we live on a busy street). If we agreed they would give us $12,000 off the price. He wrote on yellow legal paper, nothing itemized, just the total of $47,000 and the words "today" written above it with an arrow drawn to the money. I challenged his "close", which he denied it was, by saying we were not going to make up our mind that day. He became irate that I thought he was trying to "close" the deal. Then his cell phone went off (we didn't hear it) and he had to go outside to take a call from his boss. When he came back he said his boss was prepared to knock another $2-3,000 off the price for the advertising we would give them with our house location. We said no and he then proceeded to tell us that the advertising discount wouldn't last because he would sell another house today and they would get the benefit. We asked for an itemized estimate and he said he would put one in the mail, however its been over two weeks and we have not heard from them. All in all, it was not a good experience. Its obvious they have an excellent product for both windows and siding, but lets face it, in this economy, nobody is going to be pressured into a deal like this. Turns out we did select a company to provide the services and had several other estimates from companies with excellent products and they were nowhere near the pressure/selling tactics and price of Illinois Energy.

The salesman came to our house to give us an estimate on replacement windows and siding. We informed him (as he walked in the door) that we had not seen other contractors and would not be able to sign that day. We had no idea of how much the job should cost and we were going to get several estimates before we made-up our minds. He said that was fine and then proceeded to talk fast, quickly flip through his book, hardly giving us time to think about what we were seeing. At the end of this "car salesman" type of selling method, he finished by giving us a price of $36,000 for the job. THEN, he said they could do the job for $27,000 if we signed right then and there, and if we also would put a sign in our yard to advertise their business. Remember, signing that day was exactly what we did not want to do, and he had agreed. When we said we were not going to take his offer that day, he stood up, accused my husband of yelling at him (which he did not do) and left. He didn't even leave his business card. We decided later that he probably knew that we would never follow-up with him because his price was outrageous. We have had 6 contractors in to give us estimates and the majority of them come in around $20,000, which we feel is a fair price. This contractor was rude, high pressure and high priced. I do not recommend that anyone use their service. You will also find complaints against them on the Better Business Bureau site. I wish we had checked there before we let him walk in the door.
