Description of Work: They blew us off because our project was too small for them. They were supposed to come at 6pm to meet both of us (which I thought was overkill & even told them when making the appointment that it was just a side door replacement, but they were adamant that we both be there). So we held off on making dinner, & after waiting around I had to call them to see if they were coming. That’s when I was told that they weren’t coming unless we were interested in side lights or a storm door. They said they “left a message “- funny, neither of us got the message. Oh well...but now I know never to look into this company for future projects. Their loss.

Excellently!
Description of Work: Illinois Energy did my siding on my house. I love the job they did. But this review is about something that happened after that. There was a very bad storm in the area and a neighbors tree branch fell on part of my house. It punctured a hole in my siding. I called Illinois Energy to get a estimate for my insurance and they said that they would fix it for free. That is what I call real customer service.

Description of Work: I had ask them to come out and look at our windows and get a quote. The person that came spent time in the rooms we where looking to have work done and then spent time with my wife and myself to explain how their products and service differ from the big guys like Pella, Anderson, Home Depot,..... | |There quote is good for 18 months and if you have any work done based on the quote then the price quoted will last for 36 months. I was very please with their service and though there price is higher due to quality of windows I am satisfied we have the product we wanted.

Horrible sales experience.
Description of Work: Had an estimate done. Here's the spiel, I just bought an older home and didn't consider new Windows for about 5 years. This company sends Marketing Students from nearby colleges door to door. They act like it's a student project and ask for help. From there, they take you phone # and call you. When my wife told them we would not buy yet, they insisted on coming over for a presentation anyway. So, I let them come and I listened. Same deal as other reviews. Normally cos around $24,000, but if you sign now, $17,700. For what? Non-branded windows made by them. Boy, was the salesguy upset when I stuck to my guns that we were NOT ready. He essentially had a temper tantrum in my Kitchen. So, he did the classic spiel, "I'll call my Supervisor to see if I could get it down more." He stepped outside to call and I locked the door. He was actually showing anger towards us because he did not make a sale. Extremely unprofessional. The college students just recently (2011) hit my door a couple of weeks ago again. Once they mentioned the company, I sent them packing. I'm now shopping for Windows and will not hire them based on this one sales experience.

Illinois Energy started and finished installing our new windows within 3 days and were very neat and professional the entire time. They worked around our available schedule, too. Our house was built in 1986 so even though our windows were only 24 years old, they were in horrible condition with mold accumation on them. Last night we experienced a very bad storm and our house quiet and felt more secure during the high winds due to our new windows! I would HIGHLY recommend Illinois Energy for any window or door replacement.
Description of Work: Ilinois Energy installed new windows throughout our entire home in February of 2010. In May of 2010 they also installed a new exterior door to our deck. We had used them in past years for other jobs where they replaced our front door and sliding glass doors. Since we were very happy with their previous service it was an easy decision to call them again for our huge window replacement job, too.

Description of Work: Sales people are very hard sells. They want to do a LONG dog and pony show and refuse to give written estimates. He said he couldn't give estimates only take orders. We wanted to replace one window. They pushed hard to replace them all. I said no thank you and moved on.

A company rep phoned and set up a Saturday appointment to talk windows. The morning of the appointment, a salesman called for specific directions to our home. A short while later, I took another call from the company. The second caller wondered what I was interested in: windows? doors? siding? I explained that I'd just spoken to someone else, and assumed that person was already on the way. The second caller said something about sending the appropriate person, depending on our needs, blah, blah, blah. Already, I had a bad vibe. A young man named Jason (I think) arrived and presented a long lecture on replacement windows, setting up his company's product as top-of-the-line. He placed great emphasis on the company's unlimited warranty, which sounded pretty amazing. The price to replace all the windows in our very modest home was north of $22,000. BUT.... if we were interested in becoming the "Advertising House," we could get that price down to around $16,000. Only one home in their specified area could be the Advertising House, and requirements included a company sign posted in the front yard during the project and 3 weeks per year for 2 or 3 years thereafter. Also, we would have to allow before-and-after photos to be taken and write a testimonial letter. We explained to Jason that this was our first foray into the world of replacement windows. We made it repeatedly clear that we would not be doing business that day. Jason went on and on, wondering what he could do to earn our business. He warned us again and again that if we didn't ink the deal that day, it was very likely our chance at becoming the Ad House would be gone after his next appointment. We were offered an additional discount if we paid cash, reminded again and again about the fabulous warranty, and warned repeatedly that we might miss out on Ad House status if we didn't act promptly. Just to get a break, my husband and I left the room to speak privately. When we returned, we were told Jason had phoned his boss in our absence and he was prepared to offer us yet another discount. Jason was in our home for three hours! We worked hard to keep our cool while also trying to make him accept that we would NOT be signing anything that day. At long last, Jason dejectedly packed up his presentation materials and headed out. His parting words to us were, "Go Cubs!" Not exactly "screw you," but I'm guessing that's what he meant, since he nodded toward my White Sox sweatshirt when he said it. The bottom line is: if the company's product is so wonderful, why does it need a guy like Jason to wear down potential customers with the "extreme hard sell "? We won't be buying anything from Illinois Energy.
Description of Work: A alleged college student rang our doorbell and asked if he could sign me up to speak to a company representative about replacement windows. The student said he would receive some sort of credit if I agreed to be contacted. I thought, "what harm would it do to simply TALK to someone?" Besides, we HAD been considering replacement windows, so I gave him my name and number.

Agree with the questionable sales practices, as mentioned by other reviewer. I had a bad experience with not getting what we thought we ordered, and a poor installation. They had to come out approximately 5 times to make my order right. Spoke with the owner of the company several times. Did not post a review right away, because I was convinced that given time I'd ultimately be happy with the product. Had the doors going on 2 years now, and I do believe they are a good quality product. Even so, there is no way I'd be a repeat customer. I'll never deal with these guys again. I will only buy nationally known brands to replace the rest of the windows in my house.

Whole process went great. They had some great ideas for replacing our double hung windows with casement and awning windows. The windows look great and the the installers paid great attention to detail when finishing. The curb appeal of our house is much better and the windows are very tightly sealed. We are very satisfied and would recommend to friends and neighbors.

This company had solicited us for several years for siding and windows. We were not ready until this year. They just happened to call at the time we were looking for estimates and we agreed they could come out and do their thing. The salesman arrived promptly. He walked around the house inside and out and made his measurements. He then gave us a very good presentation for both the windows and siding. It was obvious both products were of good to excellent quality. Then came the pitch. They wanted to use our house as a show house (we live on a busy street). If we agreed they would give us $12,000 off the price. He wrote on yellow legal paper, nothing itemized, just the total of $47,000 and the words "today" written above it with an arrow drawn to the money. I challenged his "close", which he denied it was, by saying we were not going to make up our mind that day. He became irate that I thought he was trying to "close" the deal. Then his cell phone went off (we didn't hear it) and he had to go outside to take a call from his boss. When he came back he said his boss was prepared to knock another $2-3,000 off the price for the advertising we would give them with our house location. We said no and he then proceeded to tell us that the advertising discount wouldn't last because he would sell another house today and they would get the benefit. We asked for an itemized estimate and he said he would put one in the mail, however its been over two weeks and we have not heard from them. All in all, it was not a good experience. Its obvious they have an excellent product for both windows and siding, but lets face it, in this economy, nobody is going to be pressured into a deal like this. Turns out we did select a company to provide the services and had several other estimates from companies with excellent products and they were nowhere near the pressure/selling tactics and price of Illinois Energy.

They came when they said they were going to, and they seemed to do a good job on the window installation itself. I was surprised when they installed a screen with a small tear in it. It's been awhile, but they are expected to fix the problem.

The salesman came to our house to give us an estimate on replacement windows and siding. We informed him (as he walked in the door) that we had not seen other contractors and would not be able to sign that day. We had no idea of how much the job should cost and we were going to get several estimates before we made-up our minds. He said that was fine and then proceeded to talk fast, quickly flip through his book, hardly giving us time to think about what we were seeing. At the end of this "car salesman" type of selling method, he finished by giving us a price of $36,000 for the job. THEN, he said they could do the job for $27,000 if we signed right then and there, and if we also would put a sign in our yard to advertise their business. Remember, signing that day was exactly what we did not want to do, and he had agreed. When we said we were not going to take his offer that day, he stood up, accused my husband of yelling at him (which he did not do) and left. He didn't even leave his business card. We decided later that he probably knew that we would never follow-up with him because his price was outrageous. We have had 6 contractors in to give us estimates and the majority of them come in around $20,000, which we feel is a fair price. This contractor was rude, high pressure and high priced. I do not recommend that anyone use their service. You will also find complaints against them on the Better Business Bureau site. I wish we had checked there before we let him walk in the door.

Terrible sales practices. We were given an outrageous estimate for our window replacements. Within 3 minutes of giving the original estimate, the rep. told us he could knock of 23% of the estimate if we would "help him out" a little and give him payment on the spot. We explained that we would not be agreeing to anything that day. When we asked whether the discounted price could be locked in so that we could discuss our options, the rep. told us his hands were tied. He said he could only do what he was told. He "didn't make the rules." Numerous times throughout the sales presentation the rep. mentioned the amount of time it took to drive around to give estimates. He seemed to be saying, "You have to buy something from me, because by visiting you, I chose not to go do a sales pitch elsewhere" -- as if, out of some sense of guilt, we would hand over $40,000. We learned our lesson! We've since done our research on Angie's list and will go with another, reputable company.
