G & H ELECTRIC

I kept asking for a quote, and one of the owners kept telling me "oh, it won't be bad", without ever giving me one. Since I had used him once before to install 3 light fixtures and the price wasn't bad, I didn't get concerned. Now I know this is my fault - that I didn't get a written quote beforehand, but it was a little shocking when he handed me the final bill, probably because I had no idea what it would be. I tried calling to have him do one more thing done after this particular service and demanded a quote. The owner said he would call me back when he priced the parts, but never did. So I called someone else from Angie's List who I was very happy with, gave me a written quote without asking before performing the work.

We are moving to the Chicago area and bought an existing home. I had some work that needed to be done on short notice before my family and moving truck arrived. Howard called me back promptly, arranged to visit when it was convenient for me, and turned around a detailed quote quickly. He and his partner arrived as planned, were very careful and neat and did a very clean job. I made a few changes and added some work in the process and they took it in stride. I had no qualms about giving them the access codes to my home and was gone, even out of town, during most of the work.

Called to get an estimate on having some ceiling fans installed. Company didn't ever bother returning my phone calls. This is the third time this has happened with companies that have had an "A" rating from Angie's List. Needless to say, I won't be renewing my membership to this useless service!

We were very pleased overall in the end. The garage work was just what we needed and perfect workmanship. The TV/cable box power supply was strange; the cable installer had claimed that the power outlet was blowing out his boxes, leaving him unable to finish his installation. Howard checked it out and found that it was perfect 120Vac and 60Hz. Howard checked out what I was trying to install there. We had a European TV rated for 220V and 50Hz, and I had a static inverter transformer to plug the TV into. Howard and I discussed the possible root causes of the problem over the telephone (he was at my house at the outlet, I was at my office). We considered that the transformer could be causing unusual fluctuations in the line voltage of the power outlet. At this point I learned that Howard isn't afraid to give things a try! He didn't risk anyone's safety, mind you, but he gambled that my European TV, which was only listed on its cover with the 220V rating, really had a dual power supply and could handle 120V 60Hz without needing the transformer at all. I never would have taken that risk and plugged that $900 TV directly into that 120V outlet, but Howard stated after the fact that he was fully prepared to pay for the TV repair if he was wrong - and he wasn't wrong! The TV did in fact have the dual power capability. Howard did a little extra, and got the cable installation connected and working, so we didn't have to ask the cable guy to come back out.

Howard came the same day, found the problem immediately, and promptly fixed the problem. Everything went well and my dog liked him too.

Howard was great. Returned call promptly. Came at scheduled time and was very creative on determining the cause of the problem. What I really appreciate was that he tried the least expensive fixes first. He isolated the problem, fixed it and also took time to look over other electrical connections. Was very generous with his time on the phone both before and after the appointment.

It turned out fine. The only disappointment with this company was it took them a week to call me back.

Howard returned my call promptly and managed to start my project the very next day. Greg and Howard were wonderful, very knowledgeable about the field. They understood the shortcuts other people took and how to fix them. They pride themselves in doing the job right the first time. Greg worked on the items that I wanted done immediately that were less expensive (replacing and shoring up outlets), while I told Howard the other items I wanted done and he worked up an estimate. He presented it to me, and after my acceptance, they began working on the more intesive tasks. When unexpected items popped up (live wires in the attic), they handled it with aplomb at no extra charge. They even through in some nice bonuses, when they added the outlet in the garage, they also fixed my two garage lights so they turned on together and that they turned on when the switch was put up (as opposed to upside down). Awesome, friendly and great electricians. I will be hiring them again when we finish our basement in a few months.

Howard at G&H was very responsive, knowledgeable, and honest. He performed a thorough inspection of the electrical equipment in my home before making his assessment. The work performed exceeded my expectation as he was able to run a new line to my finished kitchen without damaging the existing drywall and cabinetry. I highly recommend G&H for any electrical work.

Howard is always great! He came very soon after the problem was reported, couple of days, and made sure the problem was fixed. Very reasonable. Our first choice when it comes to electrical work.

He came quick, started to work right away. It was a very hot day and I did not have A/C. He did a great job. Very hard worker.

We use him whenever we have electrical work to be done. He is a little slow in getting back to you. He is about to come out and do some more work for us. He even did a few things that needed fixing for no extra charge!

Howard returned my call within a few hours and scheduled a time for the next day to evaluate the problem. After checking things out he determined an action plan and gave me a quote. He was available to come the next day to do the work. The job was done the next day, for the exact amount quoted and he even threw in replacement of a light fixture inside the house. Overall, I was very pleased with his work and would definitely hire G & H again.

Howard and Greg were wonderful. We needed the project completed fairly soon and they called us back with the quote the same day. They were able to give us a quote over the phone (given that the work to be done was fairly straight-forward). This really helped. They were also able to give us a date to start the next week. Some companies were making us wait for 3 weeks. Though the quote was a little higher than the others we received, we decided to go with G&H because of the good reviews from Angie's List and the time frame we were looking at. Greg and Howard were very professional. Their work was great. They even patched the holes in the wall (though they didn't paint) which was better than leaving us with gaping holes. They cleaned up after themselves and finished the job within quote and on time. We would definitely hire them again.

Howard and Greg did a great job. Before they started, switches operated a wall socket. They rewired to bring power to a ceiling fan and made the outlet operate on its own. They did this to 4 bedrooms and completed in 1 day. It is also very refreshing to know that these gentlemen have a great sense of humor.

Howard Goldberg responded to service call request on the same day and completed the work in 30 minutes. His promptness, efficiency and economical service were first rate. Howard called first to see if it was OK for him to come by after 6:00 PM and in doing so, he did not charge over-time rates. I will continue to rely on Howard as my first choice electrician from now on.

I could imagine an electrician coming, diagnosing the problem, telling us we needed a new heater, and then not going ahead to actually fix the problem but telling us we needed to contact a spa company for that -- and charging us for that diagnostic visit. Howard, in part perhaps because he knows hot tubs quite well, fixed the problem. I was favorably impressed and wouldn't hesitate using him for future electrical problems or issues at our home.

Howard was very efficient and careful to our flooring while the wires were being hooked up. He constantly tested it while he was working. I've already hired him again.

Job 1: Excellent! From beginning to end, Howard was a true gentleman. He met me at my commercial location. Viewed the drawings and made recommendations. You could immediately tell his vast electrical expertise, as well as very personable demeanor. Within 2-3 days. Howard delivered the quote in writing. I had about seven electricians bidding on the job. I went with G&H Electric because I was most comfortable with Howard's expertise, communication ability, and afford-ability (he wasn't the lowest in price, but within the ball-park and I could tell as character and expertise when I met him). Howard was very diligent, high quality, dependable, and honest. Once my carpenter was finished Howard came in to do the job extremely well and on time and on budget. I'd definitely use him again and recommend him to others. Job 2: Definitely use this guy for your electrical needs. Very personable, reasonable and knowledgeable.

Howard returned our call more promptly than others we called. He arrived promptly. The work was well done and he cleaned up thoroughly before leaving. Very chatty.

It's like hiring your uncle to help you. You don't mind paying them because they make it so pleasant to work with them. They ended up finding a simpler way to bring power to the new cans which resulted in less patching in ceiling. For someone like me, who occasionally will do my own work, it was great because they explained everything. I hope no-one reads this and they always have time to work with us right away. :-)

Everything went extremely well. Howard brought a partner, Greg, for the job because of the logistics of installing lighting on an 18 foot ceiling. Both were prompt, polite, honest, and a pleasure to have in my house for the day. The job took less time than Howard had anticipated, in part because of the homework he had done prior to arriving. He checked directly with the lighting manufacturer to get assurance that it was safe to install this particular transformer in the attic. This also made me feel secure about the installation. During the course of their work, I had to run to the store to purchase light bulbs, and had no qualms whatsoever about leaving Howard and Greg alone in my house. All-in-all, it was a great experience, and I will definitely hire G&H again.
