Lindemann Chimney Service Inc

When you have a Hammer, every problem looks like a nail. We hired Lindemann to inspect our recently (within the past 3 years) built open gas fireplace, as we were seeing soot buildup in the house and on the ceramic firelogs, which were supposed to be white birch, but had turned black. They were very responsive and the tech was professional, providing photos and videos of the inside of the chimney flue. After the inspection, the tech said that the fireplace was unsafe to run due to Carbon Monoxide coming into the house. This assessment was done without the use of a carbon monoxide test or even turning the fireplace on. A quote of $6,400 was given to remove the current, brand new, damper, break out all of the flue, and replace with a chimney liner, new damper and vent fan. Another $800 was quoted for installing the electrical to run the vent fan. This seemed like a big spend on a fireplace that had recently been rebuilt, and inspected by the city, so we went for a second opinion from Chicagoland Fireplace and Chimney. In the meantime, I purchased a Carbon Monoxide detector and noticed that CM readings were around 10-15ppm, after running the fireplace for several hours. Not ideal, but not really unsafe. When Chicagoland Fireplace and Chimney came out, we were expecting that they would recommend the same course of action, as they are also members of the National Fireplace Institute. The tech took one look at our logs and fireplace and heard about our problem, and immediately said that the probable cause was that the logs were on top of the gas burners, creating venting inefficiencies and thus the soot in the house. He spent time rearranging the gas burners and the logs, cleaning them, as well. Something the Lindemann Tech didn't do. After the adjustments, he ran a Carbon Monoxide test and the reading dropped to 1ppm! I continued to run the fireplace throughout the day and readings never went above 3ppm. Total cost for their visit was $199, and the problem was solved, saving us $7,000! The lesson learned is that if you bring out a company that specializes in chimney liners and vent fans, you will get an assessment that includes the installation of said liners and fans. I am sure that there are many home chimneys that do require liners because of Carbon Monoxide, but would encourage everyone to get a couple of opinions, as well as invest in a professional Carbon Monoxide Meter (about $150 on Amazon) to test for yourself.

The company was prompt and thorough. The chimney was not easy to reach from the outside but they went out of their way by going on the neighbors roof to get up there.

Engineer for our insurance company determined that he could see no evidence of a chimney fire. Lindeman was supposed to return and complete the job -- cleaning the fireplace and inspecting the exterior of the chimney and never did. I contacted the office several times via phone and email and there was never ever any follow though - fireplace not cleaned or inspected no promotional wood delivered. No refund given which was a hardship since I was unemployed at the time.

The technician did not show up on the day my service was scheduled. I called him and he said he would try to get to my house that week. He came on a day I was not home ( I had stayed home from work on the day he was scheduled to come). Work was done that allegedly would prevent bats from getting in, but a few weeks after the work was completed, there were more bats in the chimney. The bats get in but can't get back out, so they end up dying and their decomposing bodies smell terrible. I called to complain and the technician told me he thought the work he did was adequate to prevent bats from entering, but that he thought I should get a new crown to completely fix the problem. I asked him to provide me with a quote. I have not received one. I have called the main number for Lindemann repeatedly. Twice a rep told me that she would have a technician call back and I have never received a return call. Today I called and got the Lindemann Chimney recorded greeting and then the phone just rang and rang - no one ever picked up. I am calling another chimney company and won't be using Lindemann again.

Great job on the cleaning of my fireplace and kept the rest of the house free of dust and debris as well.

Terrible, and as an Angie's' list member for many years I want to recommend that you take them off. I found ghese guys through Angie's' lost, and wish I never had. The fireplaces were done less than a year ago, and have never worked properly, and the company makes it seem like our fault. One we had to turn off the gas and cannot even use because it would not turn off. When we called the company they actually told us to call the fire department. A second one has one tiny flame coming out. Bad work, bad service, and not what Angie's list stands for.

Tech was clean, fast, thorough. They also give 36 bundles of free wood with cleaning.

It went fine. They did not charge me more that than the $144.50. They did small work and I thought we worked it out, it just fine. I was very happy with what they did. They did some checkpointing and also did a chimney inspection. It took them half the day; it was probably six hours, fix or six hours.

Michael F. from Lindemann did our inspection/ cleaning today. He was extremely professional and personable. In addition, we recently replaced some windows in our home and we were picking up a "fireplace" smell randomly even when we had had a fire for a while. Michael gave us several great suggestions to remedy this issue. He also made me aware of the firewood program they include with every cleaning where we get free bundles of fire wood! Based on the amount of fire we build we will be seeing them back in 2-3 years!

Very well. We were concerned about the chimney rebuild itself, the appearance of the finished project vs the overall appearance of our home, and how the work would be done without damaging our landscaping. All of our concerns were addressed, and we were very pleased with the outcome.

Lindemann's work was excellent. Sean, Raphael, Scott and Jen were very professional and talented. I supplied pictures of modern fireplaces and the result was just as I had hoped. I would definitely call upon Lindemann for other projects.

Chimney sweep went well. They gave me recommendations on improvements that needed to be made.

Technician was very knowledgeable, assessed installation of gas igniter. Downside is that he did not use a wire brush to clean the firebox. It was left with a shiney black residue. Extension brush was used Bonus was 36 bundles of free firewood.

We had an estimate from an HVAC company for a new furnace and C/A. The estimator told us we needed a new chimney liner as the old one had collapsed. I had to look online to see what this was. He recommended Lindemann. I asked for recommendations on Band of Neighbors and two residents in my area recommended Lindemann. The office staff and the technician were friendly, polite and helpful. I did not see the liner and of course was not able to inspect the work, but based on 3 strong recommendations, I am assuming it was excellent.

We got bids from two companies which were very similar on the liner job. The other company tried to add some extra things we didn't want done. We went with Lindemann and they did the job well. Everybody I dealt with at Lindemann was very professional and the work was well done and solved our problem.

Great. He was very efficient and thorough. He even checked the roof part of the chimney and discovered a crack that needed fixing. We will do this soon.

Very well. Technician confirmed the chimney was clean, no obstruction, and he "disconnected" the mechanism that held the flue door open - because the mechanism was only allowing it to partially open. Once we could open that door 100% the smoke backup problem went away.

Total scam. He used a fancy camera to show small cracks and minimal black build up. He refused to clean and quoted thousand of dollars of repairs needed. We had two other profession companies come in and inspect and were told there is no danger and only small repairs were needed. Lindermann tried to scare us into work that was not needed.

They were super professional, they were clean and tidy, they were prompt, and organized. They were super knowledgeable and they did their job very well. I think there was a lot of up-selling going on by them to sell additional services, and based on my background and what I know about chimneys and HVAC systems, some of it was a little bit of a stretch, so I didn't appreciate that part. But overall, they were pretty good. For the Deal, they were really good, but for the services they quoted me, it was really expensive. They were perfectly on time and they were very professional. I might use them in the future for chimney sweeping.

Not well. Supervisor made inspection and refunded our money but I would not use again.
