We had a great experience with Tom Kaesler from Custom Lock & Safe and would recommend him for future locksmith work. About two weeks prior to getting the keys to our new home, I called Tom and scheduled a visit for him to come out and rekey all the doors. We were getting the keys at lunch time, and scheduled Tom to arrive between 4p-6p. As I had requested, Tom called an hour or so before he got to the house, arriving close to 4pm. When he arrived, Tom identified himself by name and company, and presented his business card. After walking through the house and making sure he knew what we wanted, Tom quickly got to work. There were four doors to rekey, three of which had a second deadbolt lock. The doorknob on the garage needed to be replaced completely so that it would match the same key type as the rest of the house. My wife, kids, and I never really noticed Tom as we were in the process of other ?new house? activities, though I think our young kids (ages 3 and 6) did watch intently while he was working in the garage. At one point, Tom asked us if we wanted him to move the faded front door knob to the back door - great idea ? who thinks of that ? so he swapped the knobs and did so with no charge. Our total price was $155, $50 for the service charge and $15 per cylinder, exactly as quoted over the phone. Tom didn?t charge us for the new knob on the garage door nor the knob swap mentioned earlier. Angie?s list had a 5% coupon that I had forgotten to print, and the discount wasn?t reflected on our invoice, but since Tom was professional in his service, did the extra work (really liked the front door to back door knob swap), not to mention that he ?threw in? six keys, I decided not to raise the issue. At one point, I did ask Tom about the ?50% off any non-emergency service? that I had read on the website. Tom didn?t elaborate but said they didn?t offer that. It wasn?t until I got home and looked at Angie?s List more carefully that I realized that the listing for the locksmith is for two companies: Beans Lock & Key and Custom Lock & Safe. It was on the Beans Lock & Key website, that I had read the offer of 50% off any non-emergency service. I couldn't find a website for Custom Lock & Safe. The two companies must be affiliated in some way, but the way I had read it on Angie?s List, I thought they were the same company. Not a big deal really for me since I was happy with the work and the service, but perhaps a point of clarification for the Angie?s List team. Overall: Good price, good quality work, would hire again.

I needed a locksmith to rekey three locks after closing on a new house. I decided to call Tom after reading his reviews on Angie"s List. On the day of the appointment, Tom called prior to the appointment to let me know that he was running late. This was the only reason I did not rate him all A's, but I appreciated his call to notify me. His tardiness was quickly overshadowed by his professionalism and the quality of work he performed. He rekeyed 3 locks and replaced a doorknob. He also assisted me in resetting a battery powered, key-pad deadbolt. He noted that there was a crack in the doorframe for the deadbolt so he reset the strike plate with longer screws to insure that it was secure. Instead of just doing what I asked, he took his time to advise me of some issues. He did not charge me for many of the additional services because he was late. This resulted in about 20% off the final price. It was the little things he did which impressed me about his professionalism, i.e. he took a bag-o-keys given to me by the previous home owner with no explanation of which keys went to which door and Tom sorted everything out for me in about 15 seconds. I would definitely use him again and would highly recommend him to all of my friends.

Jon was there when he said he would, explained what he did, and was quick, efficient, and very friendly. He gave us a better price than it would have been with the online coupon.

Tom did a great job. He worked efficiently and took the time to show me how to use the safe which came with the house.

He was awesome. We bought a new house and need to get it re-keyed. He came out and did all our locks. Couple of the locks was not functioning correctly and it was broken. He replaced the locks and got them all functioning for us. They were quick too. He was very knowledge and he was in and out. I liked that he was not messing around with anything. He was very professional when he came out. I had to reschedule because it was my birthday. He was very flexible with rescheduling and got the job done. The price was fair.

Locks working fine now. Was prompt, competent and friendly. Actually called me that night to say he had overcharged me $5.00 and sent the check the next day.

Tom was great, but we did have some punctuality issues. He was scheduled to come between 11-12 and called at 10:30 to tell me he was running late and would arrive between 12-1. He ended up coming at 12:30. He also had to leave at one point to pick up some parts and return, which he did promptly. He worked efficiently and carefully, and was very clean (he borrowed my shop vac to clean up after he installed the deadbolts). His work was very professional and looks great. I trust that the punctuality issues were a one-time deal, so I'd highly recommend him. He even saved us some money by telling me to install some stuff myself, which I did the next day.

.We called a local locksmith who told us it would take an hour to come out. I found this company on Angie's List and called him up. He came within 30 minutes and charged us half the price the other company wanted to charge us. He took care of the issue promptly and professionally.

We had Beans Lock & Key/Custom Lock & Safe come to our home to replace door handles he was professional and very fast he had the job complete in a very short time. I would hire Beans Lock & Key again and I do recommend them.

We called on a Friday and Tom came the next morning (Saturday) even though it was not an emergency. He checked all 3 doors and made the necessary adjustments so they would close properly. He also rekeyed the doors and gave us an extra 3 keys at no charge. He was quick, efficient and very professional. We highly recommend him and would definitely use his services again.

Tim was a nice enough young man. He showed up with a pickup truck and took away two truck loads of junk. He also informed us that he was a handyman, so we had him put in a disposal and fix the cupbard under the sink. He did nice work, but was not too punctual.

I used Bean's associate in the NW suburbs, Custom Lock. I had tried to use the wrong skeleton key in a lock in my antique sideboard, and the lock was jammed. Custom Lock quoted the lowest price of anyone in the area, and was able to schedule a service appointment at my convenience. The locksmith was prompt, courteous, and opened the lock within 5-10 minutes with no damage to the sideboard.

Outstanding experience! Definitely worth recommending! The locksmith fixed our lock and doorknob set. Most notably, he found a way to prevent our knob from being turned to a "stuck" position.

The replacement of our front door handleset was completed quickly and professionally. No problems.

Amazing. Best service I've had in a long time. We have an expensive lock and handset on our back door. Annually, it seems to break. I've hired other locksmiths in past years who fussed and fuddled with it for days at a time. They would get it working again, but it would inevitably break. My husband is fairly handy, so he has also disassembled it and jerry-rigged it to work in a pinch. This afternoon, my sitter called me at work to say it took her 10 minutes to get the lock open. I dreaded heading down the path of hiring another locksmith who would be stymied by the lock. But I quickly looked on Angie's LIst, found Bean's Lock and Key, and called to see if he could look at it tomorrow. He suggested coming over to the house to look at it this afternoon to get an idea of what was wrong. Within 2+ hours he had taken it apart, figured out what was wrong, driven to his supply house (this is an expensive lock that most providers don't even stock), got the part, convinced the supply house to only sell him the partial part he needed, rather than the whole thing, and returned and fixed it. I couldn't be more impressed. Price was beyond fair for the level of service and professionalism received. And I didn't even meet him!

Jon came to the house promptly the day we closed and re-keyed most of the locks. 2 of them could not be done that day because he needed parts for one and another was very difficult to remove the old tumbler. So, he re-scheduled to come back a few days later and would not accept any money at this time. He returned as scheduled and finished the job well. Was able to pick all locks without damaging the hardware (we were not given most of the keys). Very professional and would recommend.

Excellent. Our nanny's house was broken into the day after Thanksgiving. They stole our house keys and had our address. We called John that day and he came within hours. He was very professional, fast and great to work with. He replaced all the locks on 4 doors in the house and garage. John was so kind to come out so quickly on the day after Thanksgiving. He was great and I would highly recommend him to anyone. My only regret is that we did not give him a tip.

Jonathan Bean came out the day I called for a quick look and returned the next day to fix my locks. I assumed that I would need new locks but he was able to repair my system for a fraction of the cost. He arrived early and completed the job quickly. I am very happy with Bean's.

John was great. He got back to me within 5 minutes of my phone call. We made an appointment for the time I needed him to be there. He was very pleasant, punctual, professional and fast. I hadn't even asked him for an estimate because of his great reviews on Angie's List. I felt his price was very fair. And just before he was leaving, after I had payed him, he noticed that a part in the front door handle lock had been originally installed backwards preventing it from latching. He very kindly and quickly took it apart and fixed it for me. He was honest and competant. I would definitely seek him out in the future
