Zoomed over to MACnician and was quickly taken care of getting me up and running. It was easy for them and they charged me far less than their service was worth. I actually paid them more than their invoice as the invoice was so low I did not think it fair to them. Sure it was easy for them, but that ease reflects knowledge they had to work to get. I am grateful and they have a loyal customer who drives almost an hour to get to their place of business.
Description of Work: Over the past couple years I have had my Apple computer jam up so that if was not functional. Want to understand panic? Try not being able to access years of work and not wanting to have to reorganize huge amounts of data stored on a backup data cloud service.

This is a small shop with very talented folks. They really know Apple Products.
Description of Work: Diagnosed & repaired my iMac problem in 15 minutes! Brought my computer to Apple Store when upon waking it I only got a blank screen and curser. The "Genius" said it required expensive parts to fix it and no guarantee exactly which part was broken. Brought it to Brian who immediately diagnosed it as a failed / partial software update. Repaired it and had me on my way. What I was told could be over $200 to fix only cost $18.

Fantastic! Brian Sugarman of Macnician was recommended by a consultant I'd used when I had my PC (Loewy Consulting) as somebody that would come to my home for an hourly rate to help with my computer - i.e., a "geek for hire". I contacted Brian on Tuesday and let him know what I wanted. Since my questions had a lot to do with my huge number of photos (photography is my hobby), he suggested that I work with Chris Tooley, who is not only a Mac expert, but is also seriously interestedin photography. I was able to schedule a visit to my house that week, on Friday. Chris was very easy to work with, and patiently listened to my explanations about problems, and understood them (not easy to do), and then very calmly explained why things weren't working and what could be done. I found that, if I'd contacted somebody like him in the first place, I would have realized that the Time Capsule is really meant only for backup (restoring info after a crash), rather than as an archive (a place to store and retrieve photos). At my request, he provided me with info on the external hard drives he is using, and what his process is for insuring there are always duplicates of his photos, preferably stored in different places. It appears to be a good, simple and easy-to-do process, which I plan to use, and have asked him to return this Friday, after I have the drives, to go through it with me. Chris also helped me with other various things I had questions about. The cost at the time for a home visit was $100/hour, billed in quarter hours, but is now increasing to $120 or $125/hour. I believe that it's cheaper ($75/hr at that time) if this takes place at the Macnian office, which I believe is by Ravinia. For me, this was money well-spent, since it was necessary to meet in my home to troubleshoot the computer/Time Capsule connection, and because I needed more than I could get in a 15 minute visit to the Genius bar at the Apple Store. I was impressed with Chris's expertise and his ability to quickly determine the level of experience of a client and adjust his explanations to that level.
Description of Work: Sat down with me in my home to help me with problems I'd been having with my Macbook Pro and Time Capsule, and advised me on easiest, safest way to archive an immense number of photos.
