+ 7 moreThey were responsive from the bidding process through to the final install of the beautiful glass shower doors. All of tiles were laid in perfect symmetry - they measured and hand set each subway tile. If they ran into a hidden condition, they discussed options with me and their advice was always based on experience. They did all of the electrical, plumbing and total remodeling work. I live in a an apartment building and they were respectful of working hours, elevator use, and my neighbors. They came to work when they said they would and worked hard all day. I gave them a key to my house to come and go with no reservations.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of bathroom with tub, shower, commode and vanity. Remodel from the studs up including new flooring.

Now that the project is complete, I wanted to note that Peter and his team did a great job and we are very pleased with the final outcome! We have thought of a few more projects for them in our future as well. 10/16/2016: UPDATE for 6/24/2016 Review - Work Summary Our project included a full demo and rebuild for most of the back of our house. Interior and exterior work was done to create a new kitchen, mudroom and flat roof space for a rooftop deck. We also needed new shingles on a peak roof, a bay window converted to a 12 ft sliding door and multiple doors installed. In addition, an open floor plan was achieved in the kitchen area by removing a brick wall and installing a 16 ft steel beam between the original house and the room addition.
Description of Work: Our project includes a full demo and rebuild for most of the back of our house. This isn't a simple project, hence the need to find the right person to entrust this somewhat daunting scope. I met with over 10 people spanning design/build firms, kitchen/home remodeling companies and individual contractors. For some our project was out of scope for their core business or it had too many moving parts for their comfort level. When I met Peter the first time his calm demeanor and technical responses to my questions gave me the confidence he would be easy to work with and knew what he was doing. As the project progresses I find he is a good listener, creative problem solver, responsive communicator and definitely a thinker. He has a good work ethic, high standards and expects quality work all of which is echoed and delivered by the tradesmen he partners with and his team. He kindly answers any of my questions and sketches things out on paper when needed, which I find is very helpful. Initially when reviewing proposals, Peter's proposal was one of the few with very detailed line items. This thoroughness helped us better understand the overall project scope and cost breakdown and was much more helpful than proposals with only a lump sum. Later we found his proposal format helpful when needing to tweak a few product purchases for budgeting purposes. It is expected a home remodeling project will be to your liking when it is complete, but a smooth process with easy and timely communication throughout makes a remodeling project that much more easy to live through. This has been my experience with Peter and his team thus far and I expect it will continue until everything is done and all looks great in the end.

+ 2 moreAWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! The primary job was to repair rotted wood. Petr came to our house about 3 weeks in advance to take measurements and get a feel for the job. We scheduled the repair work for 5/14. Petr and his colleague, Tom, showed up on time and ready to work. The removed all the rotted wood, replaced it, and painted it. It looks brand new. There is no way I could have done this project. I also showed up a big patch of damaged drywall and he fixed it without any questions asked. I also needed my dryer vent fastened to our brick and I didn't have the proper drill bit. Tom did it for my in about 30 seconds. They were very polite, professional, and the job was done extremely well. If I ever decide I want a new house, I would ask Petr and Tom to be my general contractors.

They identied some issues mid project but nothing that created major cost overrruns. He completed the project on time and cleaned everything up. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: Repair and rufurbish of wooden porches in a 3 unit condo building. Provided reinforcements and repairs where needed; Replaced railings that were wharped/damaged: completely replaced deck floor and joists on top deck.

+ -1 morePK Home Improvement did a beautiful job on a project that required both skill and creativity. The HVAC unit in my bedroom was old and it broke so it had to be replaced. The property manager in my building provided a new one that was taller and deeper so it no longer fit in the existing custom cabinet. This to me created a huge, stressful headache but it was my only choice I was told. I had multiple estimates over the course of a year mostly through other Angie's List providers and I just wasn't comfortable with anyone until I contacted Petr, the owner, for an estimate. I saw he was a smaller business and although there weren't many reviews posted I decided to give him a chance. He came over on two occasions to assess the situation, offer options and take measurements. Petr was able to formulate a design using his excellent carpenter skills and expertise, but he also showed concern for my input and my ideas so that I would be pleased with the finished product. I had confidence in him because I thought he cared about the quality of his work and he understood what I wanted, unlike many, many contractors out there that fall short. He was always available by phone or e-mail if I had questions or wanted to go over the details. He and his assistant John worked with such care that there was very little disruption and pretty much no clean-up afterwards! I would recommend this talented carpenter for your remodeling projects, especially if it involves custom cabinetry. The new cabinet blends in beautifully with the existing one, looks as though it was the original, as opposed to a patch up job, and so far it works well. As noted in other reviews Petr provides excellent customer service and I felt his pricing was fair as well. The scheduling can be a little tricky because he can be busy with other long-term projects, but if you have patience, you won't be disappointed because the end result is well worth it.
Description of Work: He designed and built a custom cabinet to fit over my HVAC unit in my condo bedroom.

+ 4 moreThis was my first experience using PK Home Improvement. I found them on Angie's List after my usual guy priced this work above what I expected. Petr got back to me quickly and was willing to price this work (several other contractors were too busy). His quote was significantly less than the contractor that I usually use and he confirmed he would be able to do the work in a reasonable time frame. I accepted PKs proposal and lined them up to do the work while I was on vacation. Petr stayed in touch with me during the work via email/text and left a very clean porch upon completion. The quality of the work was excellent. I will definitely be using PK again for future projects.
Description of Work: PK Home Improvement removed paneling and a drop ceiling in an exterior enclosed porch. They performed minor electrical work, then installed insulation and drywall. They installed luxury vinyl plank flooring, base, and then painted the entire space.

When there was a small problem with clean-up (little drops of paint hadn't been removed around the baseboards to my satisfaction), Petr came immediately to check it out, was apologetic that his worker hadn't satisfied me, and the work was done. We have used Petr for a few years now, including a master-bath improvement, repainting exterior windows and iron fencing, repairing concrete porch, and painting multiple rooms. I have watched him work, and I've been so pleased with the concentration and attention to fine detail as he works. We have always been incredibly impressed and satisfied with superb communication from Petr and always a beautiful result, and so he is always the person we call when we need any work done to our home!
Description of Work: Removed old carpeting and subfloor, installed new poured-leveler, then subfloor and tiled the basement, painted basement, finally new carpeting on stairs.

+ 0 morePetr and his crew did a great job. Also if there were any kind of problem (who doesn't encounter problems while re-modeling?) Petr was able to figure it out. He's patient if you need to change your mind because of a problem and things have to be done differently. I recommend Petr for any re-modeling job. The only problem that I ran into was when his crew was cutting the tile in the backyard on our brick deck - some of the water from the tile saw splashed on the brick and is now lightly stained with white drip marks. (Our bricks are a brown/red color.) I wish that they would have put plastic down on the bricks.
Description of Work: The encased master bath tub was removed, new tile cut and put down, re-routed plumbing, added extra electrical line for heater for new stand alone tub, which was installed. Also put in new bathroom sink faucets. (The faucets I asked to be installed while the job was going on - and he was able to fit it in with the original schedule.)

+ 3 moreI have used Petr on a few occasions for various jobs, this by far being the biggest. Petr is on time and professional and wants to make sure that everything is to the customer's satisfaction. He will fix whatever needs to be fixed to satisfy the customer which is a great quality in a contractor. In fact, I identified a slight problem with the floor that we are still unsure of. But he quickly responded to my text and has agreed to come out to look at it. I add this because getting the job done is one thing. Having someone be open to coming out and helping you troubleshoot is what makes for great customer service and return business. I had concerns about the toxicity of the paint and stain. He did his research and found the stain with the lowest VOC without it being water based. He was forthright on pricing, labor, etc for this vs. that, which helped me make the right decision. Moreover, Peter finished the job on time. This was important since I had movers move everything downstairs to the upstairs so it was important for him to be on time so that I could coordinate with the movers. I would highly recommend Petr and his crew-they were top notch. If you have building rules, just let them know and they will work to abide by them. And the most important thing--everything came out beautifully. The floors were transformative and I have gotten many compliments including that my house looks like something out of HG TV!

+ 1 moreI purchased a "deal" for 8 hours of work for $299. Petr and his colleague came when they said they would, purchased all materials needed for the work with no fuss. They worked very hard to get the drywall dried and sanded within the timeframe I'd paid for. They ended up working two hours more but because we hadn't discussed that eventuality, Petr felt it was unfair to charge me. (We split the difference.) The work was done with minimum disruption in the house and everything was cleaned up and put back in place before they left. I have several projects around my house and would definitely consider Petr in the future. It's nice to have someone who arrives on time, does what he says he's going to do, does it on time, is professional and the work holds up!
Description of Work: Performed fairly major drywall repairs in two rooms and reinstalled broken garage door frame including lock reinstallation.

Description of Work: Removed the old side door to our garage, reframed the door opening and hung a new door with new locks and trim. Removed two rotted windows in the garage, reframed and hung on new larger window. Hung a 5 ft. window box under the new window.

+ -1 morePetr was on time and communicated well if he needed to reschedule. It is helpful to schedule with him far in advance if you have condo rules related to work hours like mine does. But Petr was on time and focused, completing the work well, on budget, and in a reasonable amount of time. My dog loves to relieve his anxiety by scratching and licking at the doors. Petr fixed a major damage on 2 doors and installed a thin plexiglass over the lower parts to protect the door. He has also done handy work in general. He hung 1 very large, heavy mirror which required 2 men and did a good job ensuring that it was hung properly to stay on the wall. Overall, I would highly recommend Petr to do the job. He goes above and beyond. I would hire him again.

Description of Work: My husband and I purchased a new home in July of 2011. We hired PK Home Improvement Inc. to install and paint wainscoating in our nursery, chair rail and bead board in our son's room and chair rail in a hallway on our main floor. They did a beautiful job! They were able to match the existing chair rail and wainscoating in other areas of the house so that it was consistent.
