The guy who owns it, Tomas, was super responsive but the guy we were working with was not responsive unless I made him to respond. I had to call and kind of nag. I had to call his boss a bunch of times and I got an answer immediately after I called his boss. Tomas was awesome. The second I called, he was like, "How can help you?" The guy who came to give the quote, Chris, was very nice but I felt like I couldn't nail him down on a date or whether he's gotten the permit. We needed little things fixed after the work because there was a space between our wall and the fence and they came out within an hour and did it. The guys who did the work were awesome.

They were on time and were very professional. The fences look great!

Their proposal was extremely complete; the original estimate was very complete, detailed, and thorough. He was reliable and prompt, and he was very easy to reach. They had a good suggestion about painting the metal posts of the fence the same color as the rest of the fence to blend it in. They got the work done promptly and on schedule. They were just very pleasant to deal with and very professional.

Tomas and his wife are responsive and timely, and easy to work with. I knew when the work was going to start, who was coming when, and the work was done efficiently. They did a really beautiful job with all of the different things we had done. Their crew cleans up after themselves. Their prices were on par with other bids I received, but definitely competitive. When we had storms that put mud all over the areas they had already power washed, they washed them again at no extra charge. I have already recommended them to friends.

Family Fences came out quickly, gave us a clear explanation of labor to be done, explained minimum fees and plans for repair, we approved the service. They came back fast, fixed our fence beautifully, but there was a section at the bottom that had too big of a gap, allowing my small dog to escape. It was like that before with messy bricks blocking the space. They repaired it in the same condition. I called to ask if they could fix it so it'd fill that gap without the bricks. They did it quickly, beautifully, and did not charge extra. I'm very pleased.

It was good and they were quick! I think the price was pretty fair as well.

I liked everything about them. They came out and did the job at the quoted price. They were highly professional in terms of showing up when they were supposed to. They worked diligently. They did extremely high quality work. They built everything on site and made all the connections on site. All the styles, rails and so on were all put in with screws rather than with nails. It was all custom work and it looked great when they finished. The fence has held up very well. I am very happy. I would definitely use them again and I would recommend them. They were very good.

My wooden gate to the alley broke partially as a result of rot and I believe partially a result of being hit. My wooden gate between my side yard and front yard had been giving me problems for years because it was not aligned properly (and could not seem to be easily fixed with lasting results). When the rear gate breakage basically left my backyard open I decided I needed immediate replacement. I called on a Saturday morning. Tomas from Family Fences agreed to come out for an estimate Saturday afternoon. He came exactly when expected. He reviewed the two gates. He discussed possible fixes. We agreed to a new wooden gate in the rear attached to my garage and a metal gate in the front. He would not give me an estimate on the spot. He said he needed time to figure it out and that he would e-mail me on Monday. He sent a proposal as requested, on time. I reviewed the proposal, which included iron work that would match my front yard fence. I decided that I preferred a wooden center for the gate. (This is because I wanted a secure gate that could be opened from the inside without a key, but that needed a key from the outside.) He agreed to re-do the proposal and sent me a new proposal the next day. It was less expensive than the first proposal. I compared his price to that of another contractor and his was considerably less expensive. I sent in the contract. He agreed to do the work that Friday (weather permitting). On Friday, he came in the morning and completed both gates that day. I paid half before the start of the work and half after inspection. I am very pleased with the results. If I had thought to specify certain things, I might have made a few changes to the gates. I can't say that I would have had a better gate if I had asked for these changes, only that it was something I had not thought to ask about before work began. Tomas (and his crew) were very polite and easy to work with. Both gates work well.

An amazingly professional team

We had a 30-year-old stockade fence located on our property alongside a road. It's not in a location that we see unless we specifically go to that location to look at it. So we didn't realize it was it bad condition and, in fact, had fallen down until we were contacted by our City. The City gave us a limited amount of time in which to have it repaired. If we did not comply, we would be fined. I went straight to Angie's List, found a couple of places, got estimates and chose Family Fences. I phoned their office and spoke with "Raquel". She was extremely helpful and informative. She understood the time crunch I was under. She contacted Tomas right away. He came out the next day. He was punctual, answered my questions, and gave me a written estimate. A few days later, he came out to do the work. He tore down and removed the old fence and put in a new one (24 feet x 6 feet high). He had to put in posts, too, and everything was set in concrete footings.

Because this was a large and expensive job for me, I did much research and got 5 estimates from various companies. Tomas Estrada from the first contact was professional, responsive, and very helpful. I ended up hiring him, and they did an amazing job. I work with many contractors, and this guy is first class. He is easy to reach and returns calls promptly, he shows up when he says he will show up, and his crew does quality work at a fair price. Excellent, I can't say enough good things about Tomas and his crew.

I called Tomas of Family Fence (he was the third contractor called) and I was immediately impressed with his knowledge of fencing, his respect for safety (he called JULIE before digging), and his price. His pricing was very good. Tomas showed up for the quote on time. I wanted a couple wording changes in the contract to make things more clear for me. That was no problem as the additional text was added and we were able to sign off and get the job scheduled. His work crew showed up on time and finished the job on time. With plot plan in hand and JULIE having marked any underground hazards, the work proceeded smoothly. I am very pleased with the results. My fence is straight and it will take an F4 tornado to blow these 4x6 fence posts over!

Tomas and his crew did a great job, very quickly, and very affordably. Highly recommended.

I called three different companies on Angie's List and received two estimates. When I called Family Fences, someone answered the phone immediately and scheduled an appointment for a representative to visit and provide an estimate for the repair. They followed up promptly with the estimate and with the completion of the work, which was done to my satisfaction. Their cost was slightly lower than the other estimate I received. I would definitely recommend this company and would hire them again.

Went well. They arrived on time, completed the work on time and on budget.

When Tomas and his team was here, they did a good job. However, he cancelled on us on several occasions despite us specifially arranging appointments so we could be home for the work to be done. As a result, in order to get the work complete in a timely manner he eventually did the work when we were not home. Once the work was completed the back lock was not what we had wanted (which would have been an easy clarification if we could have been there when the work was being done), it took over 3 weeks, lots of persistence and more missed appointments to get this complete.

Great! They came out to do the estimate on time, and the estimate was $90 cheaper than the competitor's estimate. When I accepted the estimate, the said that they would come out to do the work on Wednesday, and they stuck to the schedule. They did high quality work.

They were very good. They came when they said they would come and I was very pleased.

I sought bids from three companies from Angie's List, plus one other recommended by a third party. Family Fences' bid was in the middle of the pack. From the beginning, owner Tomas Estrada seemed personally interested in our job and was pleasant and professional. His references were very positive about his previous work, so we signed a contract with him. He was very helpful with suggestions and options on how to proceed with the work to deliver the results we required on the budget we had. He explained everything and answered all of our many questions. He was very patient as we debated internally about what design to choose. He assured me throughout the three-week project that the work would pass city inspection and -- in fact -- did not accept the final installment of his fees until we did pass inspection (with flying colors on the first try). His crew members were efficient, friendly, and cleaned up the site every evening before leaving for the day -- very important because it was the front entrance to our building. Tomas seemed genuinely proud of the results, and we were completely satisfied with the work upon completion.

I did not go along with them so they never got the work. I liked the fact that they came out and that they seemed to be very flexible. They provided me with an estimate on the spot. I did not like their approach to the work; I think the solution they proposed was contradicting to what somebody else proposed. I did not really believe that this fence would still be standing in 5 years. I think it was a higher bid.

I've used this company twice over the past couple years. They are friendly, prompt, hard working and honest. It's a family operation, very nice to deal with them. Their prices seem reasonable. The only shortcomings were partly my fault; they installed the wire mesh on the outside (neighbor's) side of the fence on one side of the yard, probably to avoid disturbing our garden, and they missed identifying a couple fence posts needing replacement the first visit. Both of these problems would have been avoided had I been more clear, present and directive. So that's my only suggestion; be clear about what you want. Otherwise they're great.

They were very punctual and finished the job very quickly. There are some spots where the fence is not flush with the ground but that is more of a problem with our lot than the fence. Overall the fence looks great.

They did a beautiful job, using high-quality materials and excellent construction methods. They also were able to re-use the old gate by fabricating a custom gate opening on-site. Workers were very courteous and respectful, worked hard and cleaned up afterwards.

The estimate was free. He presented great photos of his work, which was good, and his estimate was fair. I would consider using him again in the future.
