Family Fences LTD

Family Fences was able to take care of us when we needed a fix to an existing wood fence that had small sections actually falling right off. Other companies were asking me to wait weeks before even coming out to give a quote, and the wait time for service would have been weeks beyond that. So we were please that FF responded to us in a timely manner and were able to help us in a reasonable amount of time. However, once the work was performed, we began to wonder if there was a reason FF had a more open schedule than other companies I'd contacted. The new install of side fences went alright - the fence quality itself was only mediocre. Boards were rough, had small sections where wood pieces were splintering off, and generally looked pretty bad. There were also a couple places where nails weren't driven all the way in. That being said, the fences have stayed up and seem to be sound overall. The reason I would not hire again relates to the repair work. The FF workers patched the fence in a very shoddy manner. They did not adequately reinforce places where the existing fence was clearly rotting clean away; I found one place where, instead of placing new wood beams to connect/reinforce old sections, they had literally cobbled over a gap with what looked like a few random pebbles and a splash of cement. Where they did reinforce, they only did so on one side of the fence. It was simply unacceptable work. I had to withhold payment in order to get someone higher up at the company to come look and my issues. And sure enough when they did, they ended up spending a couple hours fixing what their staff had left undone/done poorly. This was confirmation I was correct about the quality of work originally. If you hire, I recommend being on hand and being very careful about approving the work before you let the crew go or pay your balance.

Called for a quote and they stated they would call before coming over and never showed up. I called back the next day and spoke with the same lady who was very disorganized and had no clue about our previous conversation.

We called Family Fences for a quote to fix our fence that had blown down in the winter. Jim came out within a couple days to give us a quote. He said we really only needed a few new posts put in and they would take out the old posts and old cement and re-cement the new posts. He gave me a price right then. Due to our mild winter, they were able to come back within a week. I came home for lunch and looked outside and they had come that morning and all was fixed! We had recently had some new plantings put in and they were very careful around the plants. The entire fence section was about 35 feet, but they only needed to replace posts toward one side. When it had fallen, it had pulled the other sections forward a bit. Family Fences straightened the whole thing so it looks great. I feel as though they could have suggested we needed much more work done, but Jim only quoted what was needed. We had used them last year to install a beautiful wood and aluminum front yard fence. They do great work and are so easy to deal with. They are prompt and very reasonable. We highly recommend Family Fences.

They were fantastic from the initial call to the finish. I had messaged them through Angies list in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday and received a call within about an hour saying that they could come by for an estimate within a few hours. Keep in mind that the windstorm the previous day had done a lot of damage in the area. The representative arrived and said I was about the 15th person he had visited that day. He did his work and provided me with a quote at the time of the first visit which seemed very fair, considering I was in a bad spot with a damaged fence. Not only did he provide me with a quote, but said he could probably have a crew out by Tuesday..to which I responded "This Tuesday?" And he said yes. Sure enough they arrived on Tuesday and did a great job fixing the existing fence. Besides the fact that they were responsible, responsive and did great work, they did NOT try to sell me a new fence. He could have just as easily told me that my fence was shot and needed full replacement, but he didn't and that is why I really trusted them. Now should we need a fence in the future(hopefully not too soon), then they will be the first place I call.

Very happy with the work that was done. We love our new fence and the guys were very friendly and professional. They went above and beyond, even moved some excess dirt into a spot in our yard we were trying to fill and leveled the dirt off for us! The village inspector even praised the work they did and commented on the nice cleanup job as well.

We had asked for a bid on a modest iron railing along a portion of our front walk. The following day, Tomas came out to look at the location and promised a quote by email. That was on Wednesday, 11/4/15. The other company we contacted provided its bid on that Friday, but since I had not heard from Tomas, I emailed over the weekend. No response. I called the following Wednesay, and the woman on the phone told me our estimate was "in progress" and would be sent by 5:00 PM. By Friday it was clear that no estimate was ever going to arrive, and, now ten days later, I had to contact another firm so as to be able to compare their bid with the first one. In due course I accepted one of the two, but Family Fences' inexplicable failure to even produce a quote has delayed the start of the project, which we need completed now that the first snow has already fallen, and our walk is too slippery to use without the desired hand rail. We will never use Family Fences, and are bewildered by the A rating they've received from others for both responsiveness and professionalism.

A whole section of our fence blew down during a wind storm. Family Fences built the fence, so I called them to see if they could repair it. Tomas was at our house that afternoon, looking over the whole fence to see if there were any other areas that needed attention. He fixed both gates for free; we decided together that a rotting/loose post needed to be replaced. The work was done the following day, with no mess and no trampled landscaping! I'm very happy.

Very happy with the quality and price of the service. They came next day to make an assessment and within 3 days fixed the fence.They were very professional and even asked if was happy with the service before sending me an invoice..

They did a great job and I liked them naturally the way they worked, the gates are beautiful and looking gorgeous. And I would absolutely use him again and highly recommend them. He was excellent.

Family Fences was wonderful from start to finish. Thomas was very responsive when we called and came out to look over the job within a couple of days. Our situation involved connecting the new fence with an existing structure, which meant some very specific measuring and a gate. We had a picture of the type of fence we wanted that combined aluminum and wood. Thomas was very comfortable working with the picture and creating the design. We had to get the permit and have a tree taken down which took a couple of weeks. Once I let them know we were ready, they scheduled our installation within a week. The first day they were supposed to come was very rainy and Thomas called first thing in the morning to let us know they would need to come the next day due to the weather. They showed up the next day and went right to work. The crew was very friendly and did a beautiful job! They also did a great job of cleaning up when finished. We have already had neighbors stopping by to tell us how great the fence looks. From customer service to workmanship - a great company to deal with.

They put the fence up in one day. The workers were very nice and polite. We discussed about the plan and when they didn’t have the answers they called the person who was in-charge of my account and he came out. They were very professional. They were responsive and punctual. I got a competitive bid. The quality was good.

Tomas stopped by and later emailed me a proposal that I accepted. His crew was out to replace the post the following week. The crew did it quickly and did a good job communicating their progress. The quality appears to be good. I think it should last!

They were very professional and very courteous. It was great. I was satisfied.

Very well. They were the best priced and the quality of their work was excellent. I had 3 estimates: 1 from a company we hired 20 years ago (they were the most expensive), the second was a company we hired 4 or 5 years ago (their segment of the fence was falling apart and already needed repair/replacement) and the third was Family Fences. Family Fences gave us great advice, their guys worked hard (building a fence from scratch -- not prefab panels) and we now have a beautiful fence. All the posts were sunk in cement and the gates are beautiful. The fence is built to last. I highly recommend this company and will hire them again if needed.

Tomas was very prompt and professional. He arrived on time, quickly completed all the measurements, asked relevant questions and answered my questions. He showed me an actual sample of the aluminum fencing that his company would install and a sample of an alternate, more expensive product. He also provided an estimate to my next door neighbor for fencing. I decided not to use his company after I had obtained three estimates because his estimate was the second-highest and there were considerable savings with the third contractor.

Good planning and timing. Work is very good. There were some communication issues with the installers but these were quickly resolved with a phone call . If I need more fencing in the future I would definitely use this company.

They came for the estimate when they said they would, and they completed the work in a timely manner. My only "complaint" is that they left 2 of the old boards behind when they left. Other than that, they did everything I asked and they pretty much cleaned up after.

Not only was the person not prepared, but the follow up on the phone with a female owner did not go well. She was rushing me into making a decision on a fence and did not have the fence I had chosen. I decided that spending thousands with this company was not going to happen.

We were not at home when the crew worked but the project was straightforward: our backyard fence panels were in good shape but the posts were never set in concrete, as they should have been. The crew came out, took down the fence, set new posts in concrete and replaced the original panels. In addition, they replaced a post, also setting it in concrete, that was part of the gate to the back yard, fixing the gate in the process. The work on the fence was fine and we are happy with it (our only complaint is that the crew was not particularly careful pouring the new concrete--it was done somewhat sloppily and is not confined to the area immediately around the post. Since it's behind a garden, the concrete won't show, but it's evidence that the crew was a little less careful than they should have been. Our more serious complaint relates to their clean-up...or, actually, their lack of clean-up. Our backyard walkway was a muddy mess; the grass showed where the crew dragged their boots to get the mud off; and the back area by the alley made clear where they mixed the concrete. The ground was soft and wet but there is no excuse for leaving our property the way the crew did. They knew a hose and water was there because they used it to make their concrete. But they left gravel behind in the alley and mud everywhere. It would have taken an extra 10-15 minutes of time to clean up the mud from the walkway, to wash off their boots in the alley, and to clean up the back area where they mixed the concrete (and walked through the vegetable garden to get to the other side of the fence). We know that this is dirty, messy work, but we don't expect to see evidence of it when the work is complete. To their credit, the company apologized and we would hire them again. I should also note, finally, that the company generously honored a one-year-old quote on the job. In addition, setting the extra post (at the gate) was not part of the original quotation but they added the work at no extra charge.

After I looked for fencing companies on Angie's List, I called Thomas Estrada at Family Fences. He scheduled an appointment for a few days later. He showed up on time and took notes on the project. That night he emailed me the estimate. I called him and scheduled the work. Next day I sent the 1st 1/2 check. He told me that I'd save money by getting the building permit myself. Indeed, it would have been an additional $80 for them to do it. On the day of the build 2 gentlemen showed up to do the work. They were polite and professional. The job took about 6 hours. When they finished they had me check the work, then they cleaned up and swept the back deck where they did the assembly of the fencing, and also, without me asking, stacked up the old wire fencing I had been previously using. Soon after they left, Thomas came by to check the work and to make sure I was pleased with the job. That was classy and professional. A good experience and I got what I paid for.

The work was very high quality. We were very pleased. They gave us a good estimate that they followed through on. We found them directly through Angies List.

The quality of craftsmanship is great and the team was great to deal with. Their prices were in line with the 3 other bids I received. I would definitely recommend them.

The clean up was good and everything was fine.

The owner called me shortly after I left a message. He arrived a few days later at the scheduled time to provide an estimate which he submitted via email as we had also agreed. The price was fair and reasonable. We scheduled the job to be completed a few days later. The 2-person crew arrived as scheduled. They understood the job though also listened to my concerns. They were removing a few old fenceposts and installing 2 new ones. I wanted to be certain that draintile and a cement stairwell wouldn't be damaged in the process. They were careful to avoid this. They were also careful about removing old wire scraps from the portion of the fence that had fallen to the ground or been embedded in tree roots. They had dirt to fill in the holes from the fenceposts that they removed. Though the job was relatively small, I have confidence that Family Fence would handle a larger job in just as professional and pleasant a manner. I would use them again.

From start to finish, the entire project went smoothly. Tomas came out promptly to give the estimate and the work was scheduled right after I signed the proposal and acquired the permit. They installed a 40' long, 4' high solid style red cedar fence along the one unfenced side of my backyard and attached chicken wire I provided to the fence (digging it under as well) for bunny proofing. They also replaced two rotted fence posts on my gate, removed an old piece of chain link fence and hauled away a pile of debris (rocks and dirt) that was behind that piece of fence. The crew worked quickly and efficiently. Everything looks terrific and they cleaned up great. Family Fences is a professional, friendly and top-notch company. I would both hire them again and recommend them to others. I've already referred them to a neighbor.
