Effective Air

I've used Effective Air for years. I trust them to competently perform the required services and not try to sell me things I don't need.(Two fuses cost $96 which I thought was high. If it happens again, I'll buy the fuses myself.)

They are excellent and service my home regularly. I always use them and the same technician does not always come out. I think they do a great job and I will use them again in the future.

Service was prompt. Employees were polite and effecient. Came in the morning and I had hot water by evening with everything working as described. The smaller more effecient unit supplies more hot water than we need for 5 bedroom 4 bath home and solves a problem with the old water heater vent pipe backdraft.

I contacted Effective AIr just before Christmas 2010 to get a quote on an Aprilaire 700M Humidifier. Brad, the sales manager was prompt with all inquiries. Their installer (Victor) was on time, neat and professional. The system works great and makes a difference in the overall comfort of our home. I highly recommend this local Glenview company.

There was some delay in getting an appt for the annual maintenance, but this may be because of unusually warm weather. As always, the visit was professional and thorough. The service person called several things to our attention that could improve the furnace efficiency.

It’s a good company, and they do a good job. We’ve been happy with their services.

I have used Effective Air for about 15 years. I have always thought that their prices were fair and their service is excellent. The technicians are always very professional, punctual and clean. I really have nothing but good things to say about them!

Working with Effective Air has been awesome. They are absolutely fantastic, and I’ve been using them for years. I’ve seen shoddy work done by other companies, and we haven’t had any negative response from Effective Air in 3 years. They’re a very highly-communicative company, easy to schedule with, and the technicians are very knowledgeable. I’d highly recommend them to others, and already do.

When their technician was servicing our boiler and old water heater, they detected significant wear in the hot water heater and showed me the parts that were worn. They gave me a quote for several different water heaters, but never pushed for us to immediately replace the unit. Since we don't have a drain in our basement, the possibility of flooding from a part failure on the old heater prompted us to purchase the new one. John, the owner came by to look at the piping situation since we only had part copper and adjusted the estimate to finish piping with copper. The unit was ordered, we set a date for installation, and as usual, they were on time, the installation went smoothly, and the technician cleaned up completely. We've had a furnace/air con and space pak also installed by Effective Air and have always found them to be honest, helpful, and totally professional. The technicians have always been very polite and respectful of our home.

We are previous happy customers of Laco Mechanical. When Laco owners retired, Effective air took over their accounts and we are now happy EA customers. Effective Air Technician, Carlos, was very professional and extremely courteous. Carlos was very good about explaining all he was doing to test both heating units and found an issue with the ignitors. He explained and showed us what was wrong and suggested replacement. He was professional and honest. We thought there was an issue with Unit 2 fan, he looked at it and found that although there may have been an issue in the past it seemed to have been fixed. He also serviced our 2 Humidifiers and came back with replacement pads the following Monday. We enrolled in there service plan that services both our 2 heating units & 2 Humidifiers now and 2 A/C units in the Spring. So the cost above was for parts, labor on 2 furnace units and 2 humidifiers + prepaid for A/C service in Spring.

I recently had another contractor install three (3) new Goodman Mfg. furnaces & A/C units. Goodman offers a 10 parts warranty for free with product registration, which I had already done myself. They also offer an additional 10 labor warranty, which since my previous contractor was no longer in business, I called Effective Air, due to their Angie's List rating. I spoke with Rod in Effective Air's warranty department.about purchasing three (3) 10 year labor warranties from Goodman. He called me the next day and quoted me $787. He also said I was required to purchase Effective Air's twice/yearly maintenance program for an additional $750 per year. I explained that I just had a conversation with the manufacturer regarding Goodman's requirements to purchase the contractor's maintenance program to enforce the labor warranty and was emphatically told by Goodman that "NO maintenance agreement is required," which I explained to Rod was my reason for refusing their $750 yearly maintenance program. I drove to Effective Air's office the next day to pay them the quoted $787 for the 10 year labor warranties and was presented with a bill for $2100. Rod explained that he "HAD" to sell me the maintenance for $750, and that the labor warranties were now going to cost me $1350 ! ! ! When asked why the price for the warranties was now almost DOUBLED, Rod explained that he had made a mistake. . . . So I ask you . . . would you ask Effective Air to do any work in your home or office knowing that "bait and switch" is a normal business practice of theirs??

After receiving several estimates of the necessary work and discussing the work and options available with the different contacts that I made, I chose Effective Air. I talked with Brad from Effective Air, who clarified the many questions that I had about the work and the alternatives that I had researched. Effective Air went over all the work from the estimate in detail, the price seemed to be fair compared to other estimates that I had received. Effective Air began the work on schedule dismantling and removing the old equipment, set up the new equipment and perfermed the necessary work using new materials and always cleaning up after each day's work. They reworked a couple of minor items that I asked about relating to the esthetics with a drain pipe from the air-conditioning unit and did so without any questions. The workers were courtious, clean and co-operative. All the equipement was tested and the work was completed in the time frame that they quoted. Since the work was completed in the Spring, everything has worked great. The house has been comfortable all Summer long and the quality of the air is better. I have not had a change to use my heating system as of this date because there is still hot weather in the forcast.

Effective Air came highly recommended, and they did not disappoint. From our first meeting with Jon Smith, he was just wonderful - helped us out with an (unrelated) emergency situation, was very responsive with an estimate and with answering our follow-up questions, and recommended a solid and efficient system. His team worked very diligently to complete the project quickly and followed up promptly to address some issues that resulted from turning the water off and back on in a very old home (all were immediately addressed). His team was also extremely neat and friendly - it was great to have them in our home. I highly, highly recommend Effective Air and will certainly go to them again with any future needs.

the repairman came the same day, found we needed a new 'board' and said he would install it the next day. He temporarily fixed it so our furnace could work and then did come the next day and fixed it. He diagnosed the problem pretty quickly and came up with a good temporary solution, which was great.

the technician was punctual and polite however they didn't fill the freon all the way. I was a pound short and have been all summer until a technician from another company fixed it today, 7/13/2010. ...I don't know if Effective Air was sloppy, ignorant or what but they left me with an A/C that was running all the time to keep the condo at 77 and I would not use them again. Pleasant, yes, Effective as their name implies, No.

They were very good. They do very good job and their price is also reasonable. They are easily available as well.

This company was fine for maintenance of our heaters and air conditioners. We thought their prices were high for maintenance. We decided to use the company anyway as Effective was proactive with the contract and seemed like a reputable company and all of the people in the company were pleasant, from receptionist to technicians. Then we had an air conditioning problem last summer which needed to be corrected properly and quickly as we were installing wood floors that were sensitive to humidity. The technician did not fix it properly and and had to return. We felt that he was not properly trained to diagnose the problem and we were disappointed that Effective sent a marginal technician to fix a problem that needed to be done properly the first time. At the same time they asked about variability of heating and cooling in our rooms and then suggested and quoted us a price in the 30,000 dollar range for new ductwork. We contacted another company that told us our ductwork was fine. We felt that Effective was trying to get us to do unnecessary work at a price that was highly inflated.

We have worked with them for over 5 years. They call when it is time to do annual maintenance and can schedule within a few days and always come when they say they will. We have been very happy with their service. We originally became acquainted with them because they had a much better price on installation of air conditioning than another firm recommended to me. They quoted what I needed and no more.

Jon came to my home within a couple of days of my initial phone call, and performed a thorough evaluation of my HVAC needs. The following week, he provided a detailed estimate in person, complete with information about applicable tax credits. His team was able to start work shortly thereafter, and I'm very pleased with the job they did. This was not an easy installation due to the small space in which the unit had to be installed, but the installers took it in stride. They were always cheerful and extremely courteous. They were very careful to protect my hardwood floor and clean up every day before leaving, and even went well beyond the call of duty to repair the hole in the wall after the old return vent was removed. They also explained a lot about my new system and its installation, so I'm a much better informed homeowner now.

Our old boiler was not working so I called Effective Air for service. Turns out the boiler was dangerously malfunctioning and beyond repair, so they gave me several prices on new models. Their prices were lower than other vendors who also gave me bids. We decided to get a new water heater while we were at it. Brad the salesman is SO knowledgeable and spent lots of time answering all my questions. Gary the installer and his team are experts. They cleaned up after themselves every day. A special thank you to Gary for being so friendly to my toddler son.

Had a service contract with this company. When my A/C sprung a leak through my ceiling on a holiday weekend (water literally pouring from the ceiling) it took over 3 hours for them to return my call. Several routine maintenance appointments were canceled at the last minute. In general, good work when they came, but often promised follow-up (ordering parts, etc) that never happened. In one case, resulted in not having heat for about a week during the winter. Had multiple problems with the billing people - double billing, claiming not to have received payment, snotty attitudes. I ultimately canceled my service when my credit card was charged twice (again) for the same service.

Extremely professional. They were very high quality. Timely and they met our needs. They deliver and install everything. They also provide service for repairs and maintenance.

They came out and repaired what the tenant had repaired, but they tried to make me pay it. They tried to replace the whole heating and AC unit. Over all I don't care for them!!

They came recommended to us from a real estate agent. They did have to reschedule with me, which was fine; it was a busy time of year. They were prompt and came out right when they said they would. Their prices weren't the lowest but I felt they were reasonable because I wanted to go with a reliable company. I would use them again for future service.
