They came out to give me a detailed quote on the custom patio project that I was interested in. He made quality suggestions for me to think about with some really good options. Once I agreed to the price that he quoted it was less than a week before he and his crew came to do the job. They were on the job on time and worked non-stop throughout the day and into the evening to finish the patio. His crew was very helpful, courteous and professional. They came back the next day to finish up the cleanup.

It was fine; I had no issues.

We purchased a hot tub/spa and were told it would take approximately 3 weeks for delivery. Initially we called several concrete contractors and none would even come out to give a quote for at least a week. We called Mr. Cochran and he came out the same day, gave a reasonable estimate (my wife had received estimates of more than twice his quote over the phone), and said he could start work the next day. He came out and set up forms on a Saturday, and at that time he changed some things (he could not pour right up to the sidewalk, one or two other minor things). We let that go and allowed the work to continue. On the next Friday, he arrived on time with two laborers to finish preparations and pour the concrete. He finished preparations and had to wait for the ready mix truck. He had a telephone conversation with them and seemed to believe they would arrive earlier than originally scheduled, but they did not. It was August 1st, likely the hottest day of the year. Mr. Cochran did not order inhibitor in the concrete batch. He started pouring using two wheelbarrows from the alley. The concrete started to set very quickly and he was unable to properly draw the concrete and finish it properly. He had to pull back some of the concrete and we soon discovered that he had not ordered enough. In this case that mistake saved the project. He filled the remaining area partially with the hot, quickly setting concrete then ordered 2 more yards (originally asking for 5.5 for the whole project). The second load (actually 2.5 yards sent by the supplier since they wanted to be sure this time) came and the pour went smoothly from then on. He used all of the second order, so he used a total of 8 yards when he originally ordered 5.5 yards. The end result was a pad with part that is poorly finished (luckily the spa sits on this part) and the other part fairly well done. However the scalloping we asked for was not as designed - the form bent under the weight of the concrete and produced a different pattern. We allowed that to pass since it still looked OK. Mr. Cochran attempted to blame the concrete supplier for the hot concrete that set too quickly. In fact, the driver did forget the rebar and the supplier claimed that he turned around after only 10-15 minutes of the trip so he was only 30 minutes later than expected. Due to the conflict, Mr. Cochran refused to pay for the concrete at the time of the job, saying he would negotiate a lower price. After a few weeks of negotiations between the supplier, Mr. Cochran and me, the supplier send a letter threatening a mechanic's lien on our house unless we paid for the concrete. After several attempts by my wife and myself to get Mr. Cochran to pay, I eventually paid the supplier to avoid the lien. I have been unable to recover the portion of the money given to Mr. Cochran that was intended to cover the materials ($708.66). I have a receipt that states "materials included".
