They were wonderful. The owner is Pierce Powers and he came out and we walked around the house. I pointed out six places that had hairline or stress cracks that were settling in the house because the house is about 40 years old. We each wrote everything down and he wrote up a contract and put it in the mail. The quote sounded reasonable and I typed everything up and we were in agreement so I returned the contract to him. In about two weeks he had two gentlemen come out and they did all the work plus they did some hairline cracks that we overlooked. I walked out to see how they were doing and I saw that they were doing some additional cracks. They said that Pierce told them to do any cracks and it was all included in the price. They did about four or five extra stress cracks that we overlooked and still only charged us the original price. They cleaned up after themselves and put tarps all around the areas because they had to use a router to get out some of the grout cement. It sounded like they had a vacuum cleaner out there vacuuming everything up. They took all the old masonry away and replaced the brick down by the garage door that was totally gone. It is a red brick house and they matched it up as best they could and it looks good. I wasn’t expecting miracles but they did a beautiful job and I would highly recommend them. They did an excellent job. There was no price gouging and they really did a good job. It took about five hours for the two men to do the work. They came around 7:30 and were done by 1:30. We were very pleased and very satisfied.

A waste of the customer's time.
Description of Work: I called this company for an estimate. The man that came out was very rude and had a bad attitude. He called and asked for the lady he spoke to yesterday. The appoint ment was for 10:00 am on Saturday. I told him I was running late; but I would be there by 10:15 am and where I was coming from--the South side of Chicago. He agreed and hung up. At 10:17 am he called me back and my husband told him we were 5 minutes away. He told him he had another appointment and he could not wait. In my opinion, he could have gotten out and been looking at the building (the job was for tuckpointing the front of the building) and been prepared to discuss the estimate with me. From the beginning his attitude was rude. The property is located on the West side of Chicago. There are contractors who do not want to perform work there. However, he could have told me that and it would have been on to the next contractor. Do Not waste my time and have a bad attitude. I called him back and told him exactly what I thought.

After waiting 30mins, I called customer to let her know I had other appointments to keep. I was courteous and polite as I explained, that I had to leave in order to be on time for my other customers whom I had scheduled for 11am and 11.30am respectively. Never once was I rude or disrespectful , but I have a business to run and it is important to me that I keep my commitments and not keep others waiting. ( Especially my 11am appointment who was coming to her mothers house in the city from a far out Western Suburb. ) In my twenty years in business I have worked in every neighborhood in Chicago and actually own a bldg within two blocks of subject area. I wish this Angie's list member well in completing her projects.

Pierce of Kerry Masonry arrived early for our appointment. I showed him the water damage inside the apartment. He examined the roof. He invited me to join him on the roof, but I declined. Pierce took photos with his digital camera so that he could show me where the water was getting in and explain what he proposed to do to remedy the situation. He was business like yet cordial. I told Pierce that I wanted to get at least two other estimates before I made a decision. He had no problem with that. I received a service proposal via email the next day. If everything went so well, why didn't I give Kerry Masonry the work contract you ask? I did set up two other appointments to get estimates on the work to be done. I was stood up by one company. A representative from another well known company came out to look at the job and give me an estimate. This representative maintains that the problem is not with the tuck-pointing, but with cracks, breakage and damage in the ornate lime-stone caps at the top of the face of the building. Because the lime-stone caps are so ornate, his company would not be able to perform the replacement/repair services needed. (I rarely if ever hear of companies honest enough to turn down a job because you don't need it. That gave his opinion a lot of weight with me). Initially, I thought the biggest issue would be price. The estimate I received from Kerry Masonry was not cheap, but I have no other estimates to compare it to. My problem has become more complicated. Because there is no consensus on what needs to be done between the two professionals who did show up and examine the property, I need (an)other expert(s) to diagnose exactly what is causing the water damage and the best way to correct the problem. Both of them could not be right, could they? I do know that I can not afford to take a hit and miss approach to solve my building woes.
Description of Work: After viewing Angie's List, I selected two companies that provided tuck-pointing services. I contacted Kerry Masonry on June 14, 2011 for an estimate. The north east wall of the second floor apartment in a two-flat building was getting water. An appointment was made for June 21, 2011 at 9 a.m.

I called Kerry after reading several positive reviews on Angie's List. Pierce (the owner) came out @ 7 AM the next morning to give an estimate on the job. I was not home at the time (he spoke to my wife) and I had additional questions regarding his estimate. He agreed to come out the following morning @ 6:30 to speak with me. He arrived on time once again. He answered my questions thoroughly and offered some helpful advice on the project. I signed a contract with them and he said they would be out the following Wednesday (5 days away) to complete the job. Monday afternoon a 2-man crew arrived to install the stoop. They tore out a broken concrete stoop and replaced it with a limestone stoop. The work was completed professionally. On Tuesday night Pierce called and said that due to the expected rain on Wednesday they would shoot for Thursday. On Thursday morning it was raining once again and Pierce called to say they would be out Friday morning. Friday came and his 2-man crew arrived and began the demolition process. They framed the sidewalk and asked if I was pleased with the proposed height and slope of the walk. The concrete truck arrived on time and completed the pour. The crew finished the concrete and cleaned up all of the mess. Pierce arrived toward the end of the job to ensure the work was completed properly. My overall experience with Kerry Masonry was very positive. Pierce communicated with me at all points throughout the job and his crew was always on time and professional. I would definitely recommend them for concrete work and would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Kerry tore out and replaced a sidewalk adjacent to my house. They also replaced the stoop leading into my house.

Pierce Power returned my contact request promptly and we set up a date/time for an estimate. He was on time and had a written estimate e-mailed to me the same day. We had additional questions after that regarding the downspouts which we wanted buried under the new sidewalk as previously they poured onto it. We also were concerned about recovering the lines that ran from our air conditioner and generator to the house. Pierce was quick to respond to all our questions and handled the issues accordingly. He had his crew bury the downspouts as we requested and also left trenches the length of a brick open for the lines. We were very pleased with his promptness including dealing with the city to get the permit which was around $100 and added onto the total cost. We found the overall price to be well under others that we had bid. The job was done quickly and everything looks great. We're very happy and would recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: They removed an existing cracked and deteriorated patio and sidewalk from the side of our home, set new forms, buried our downspouts underneath, left trenches open as we requested for easy access to the air conditioning and generator lines, and finally poured new concrete.

The owner of Kerry Masonry came to my home on a Friday afternoon (~4:30pm) and provided a verbal estimate for the chimney tuck-pointing repair. We talked about when his crew could perform the work in the coming week and set a date. However, when he found out that I was going to replace a section of shingled roofing he offered to come the next morning (Saturday) and complete the work at no additional charge. His crew came earlier than promised, completed the work more professionally and promptly and even used some "extra mortar" to patch a couple of driveway cracks; at no additional charge. I would highly recommend Kerry Masonry based on my very positive experience. Thanks for your professional services at an affordable price!

I called Pierce Power of Kerry Masonry because of the outstanding reviews on Angie's List. And boy were they right. Pierce literally called me back within seconds of my original call. He came out right away and evaluated what needed to be done. We have in addition to traditional tuckpointing at our office we have some glass block panels that were leaking.I wasn't sure if the panels themselves were leaking, or the window vent was the source . Pierce recommended he address certain issues and I was so impressed with his thoroughness that i wound up turning down another contractor for the job in favor of Kerry Masonry and i had worked with the other contractor before and liked his worked. That's how impressed I was with Pierce. the work was done and it looked impressive. The real test was how it would hold up in the rain. Please keep in mind the bulk of the work performed was not done on the glass block windows but rather the masonry all over the building itself. Only two glass block panels were the source of the leaks at the time and one of them seemed to be completely cured. The other window still had some leaking . I looked over pierce's work and could not imagine that it was related to anything he did.So, what I did is i called the glass block people out and the thinking is that the window vents might be the source of the problem and what he did is he tightened the seal around the vents and thought maybe that would do the trick. The glass block company saw that some caulking was done and commented on how well done it was. Unfortunately, that did not do the trick so i called Pierce and we found maybe one or two areas that MAYBE needed some touch up work which he did. Well, the glass block panel leaked again so i called the glass block people out again, and their thinking now is that we need to replace the vent and actually make it a little smaller . We will see how that goes. + The glass block people came out and changed the window vent which was old and cracked and they said it was this that the water was coming in from. in all actuality, Kerry Masonry corrected what it could correct and the rest of the problem was solved by the glass block people . Kerry Masonry was outstanding to deal with as they were absolutely professional all the way .

Called this company for some repair/ maintenance work. Informed contractor I was calling on behalf of a condo association at this point he began to decry condo boards and the way they operate. Also told me to plan on spending over $150 based on the fact that he was a qualified professional even though he never looked at the job. His demeanor was unprofessional and I was given the distinct impression he wasn't interested in my job. Would not recommend this contractor.

After receiving estimates from several contractors, I decided to move forward with Kerry Masonry. Pierce Powers, the owner, was very professional throughout the entire process. I liked his approach and honesty in giving me an estimate on the job. Also, I checked out his references and saw examples of his prior work which assured me that he would do a great job. Pierce started the job almost immediately and his crew started on the day he said that they would. I also liked the fact that Pierce was on site often to check on the progress of the work and during the most crucial stages of the work, i.e., the lintel replacement which took place first. Even after this work was done and tuckpointing was all that remained, he still was on site and available to talk to if I had any questions. His crew was professional, courteous, and hard working. They kept the work site very clean by making sure that they covered the ground where they worked. Furthermore, Pierce had done a great job of explaining to his crew what exactly needed to be done so that I felt confident that the work was getting done right. I would highly recommend using him and will be calling him in the future should I need additional work done.
Description of Work: The job was for a two story mixed-use commercial building. One wall had two sets of 2nd floor window lintels that were replaced. The original 70 year old lintels were sagging and the course of brick right above them was being pushed outwards. The lintel replacement required this course of brick to come out. After the lintels were replaced and new brick put in, caulking was applied to the lintels. Tuckpointing and filling in of holes was also performed on this wall. Another wall was tuckpointed and a separate garage was also tuckpointed.

The entire experience was great. I would recommend them to anyone who asks. Pierce came out and gave us an estimate which he left in our mailbox, and then came out again to meet with us and go over the estimate and discuss what he thought needed to be done. They were able to quickly set up an appointment. They arrived promptly at 7am and began setting up and worked until 6pm. I think they even took lunches in shifts because there was always someone working. They were all very considerate and friendly, even to my 2 year old son who thought they were pretty awesome and wanted to go see them all day. They also did additional work in problem areas they found while here at no additional charge. I can't say enough good things about them. In short, they were excellent and I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.

The house is a face brick georgian over 60 yrs old. Mr. Powers owner came out the following day to inspect the chimney and promptly called me, He determined the chimney had to be rebuild and began work within two days. There were three men that worked on the chimney, they arrived at 7 everyday and cleaned up. Rebuilding the chimney and installing rain caps took two days .Had to stop for a day because of the rain but secured the area to prevent rain damage and covered the chimney before the rain. The match to the older brick was perfect which is important when you have a face brick house. so had rain caps installed (from Kerry Masonry) Looks great. Did not ask for a deposit, payment only after the work was completed. Because the work was so very well done, I allowed the Kerry Masonry sign to remain on my lawn for an additional week so that the neighbors could perhaps utilize the service . I would recommend this company

Pierce came out promptly on the appointed day for the estimate and explained what needed to be done in a very common sense and professional manner, without any pressure "selling". His demeanor and clean truck made a very positive impression on me. His 2 man crew came out on the appointed day at 8:30am and worked straight through until about 4:00pm. They resurfaced and sealed my front steps and tuck pointed the stoop plus a few extra areas where they felt it was needed. Pierce came out toward the end of the job and asked if I was pleased. I don't think my front porch has looked this good since the house was built. They cleaned up and all of them thanked me for my business.
Description of Work: The front porch brick stoop next to my stairs on my 1925 brick bungalow had lost a lot of tuck pointing and the bricks were getting loose. The concrete stairs were suffering from a bad resurfacing job I had someone do 2 years ago. All of the resurfacing from this 2 year old job was peeling and flaking, the steps looked like a ruin.

We had some minor flooding in the basement that we suspected came from the chimney. I called on a Monday and the guy was here on Wednesday, at the agreed time. As soon as he saw the chimney he could tell that the flooding was probably due to the age of the cap (it was patched at several places; all work done by previous owners). After checking a few things, he gave us an estimate. We thought it was a bit expensive, but we were willing to pay for it, and he had very good reports on Angie's list. They came to do the work early Friday morning (they would have on Thursday, but couldn't due to rain). They worked all day Friday and Saturday until 3pm or so. It turned out to be a lot of work: the old cap was very big, and they spent hours knocking it down. Once that was done, the rest of the work went pretty smoothly. Both workers were pretty nice all the time. I'm pretty nosy about these things; they never seemed annoyed at my questions and were always willing to explain what they were doing. The boss was also there part of the time, and kept us informed all the time of the work being done. They also did a very good job cleaning up. It's hard to tell if it actually worked (flooding only happens with very heavy rain or snow), but I'd be very surprised if it didn't. The chimney looks great. After seeing how much work they actually had to do, I thought the price was pretty fair. Although the older cap was much larger than usual, which gave them more work than expected, the final price matched the estimate.

Responded readily to my request for an estimate. Faxed me immediately Certificate of Liability. Stated he did not want any money until the work was completed. The following week had his crew out. Work was completed in a systematic manner. Workers were customer friendly and appeared to take pride in their assignments. The guys did extra minor tuckpointing work for free because they saw it needed to be done. Cleaned up very well after each portion of the job. Note this... After the work was completed and the money paid, I contacted the owner about a question/concern I had about the chimney work. I wasn't sure if my concern was valid, but Mr. Powers wanted to be sure I was satisfied. So he promised to have his worker return to make the changes I requested, with there being no additional charge. Took his guy about three weeks to return, but the owner called me twice to let me know I wasn't forgotten. I waited to provide my review of this company until the promise was kept. The worker arrived early today. Made the adjustments. Looks good. I'm satisfied.
Description of Work: Proposal: "Rebuild chimney from roof up, with new face brick and stone capping. Install new flue liner. Caulk flashing when completed. Repair rear porch steps and recoat. Grind out, repair and tuckpoint wing walls of porch. Caulk between brick and concrete when complete. Recoat front steps and caulk perimeter when complete. He returned my call quickly, came out to look at the chimney the next day and completed the work the following week. He told me a small repair I could do myself. After they left I noticed his helper had put a little masonry over a small area of the foundation where he must have seen a crack.
