They are fabulous. They are not inexpensive, but they are excellent. They do very good work and you can absolutely trust them. Our furnace wasn’t turning on. They went inside the machine and found a connecting wire and they fixed it the first time. I am not sure if any other company would have found it that fast. They could have just told us that the boiler is broken down, but they didn’t do that. You can absolutely trust what they say. They have the expertise and they take your problem personally. Their price is high, but you get what you pay for.

Overall it went well. It took a little while to get a response on our request for a quote. But after two phone calls, the estimator came out to look at the job, just to make sure he understood it. The price, we believe, was on the high side, but we wanted to use a local company. The quality of the work was good. Overall, I was satisfied with the experience. The quality of the work is certainly good. It just took a little while to get the initial response.

We are very satisfied with their work and the clean up afterwards. I'll probably begin to use them for my annual heating & A/C check-ups.
Description of Work: Discovered our hot water tank was causing condensation in our newly rebuilt brick chimney and the condensation was dripping down the interior basement wall. The solution was go get the chimney lined. Cahill was very responsive in giving a bid. Within a couple of days of signing the contract, Cahill installed a flexible liner, new chimney cap and patched up the interior basement wall where the old furnace vent used to be. They were very punctual arriving at 8:30 a.m. on the dot. The job took about 3 or 3.5 hours.

We ended up having extensive work done. They gave us a real good bid, but my board over ruled me who was a good plumber but not a careful worker. I would have preferred to have Cahill, but the board wanted to save money. I think that they are excellent plumbers and heating specialists. I think the technicians that I have met have all been there a long time, they get to know your building and John J does the estimating himself. He is very fair and knowledgeable. I like them very much, they are my plumber of choice so whenever I can I use them. We had a problem with our hot water heater, it kept going out when we thought we had repaired it. They took it upon themselves to find out what was going on. It was such a peculiar problem that I think only Cahill would have found it. It was so deep in the system and they found it. They are very thorough, you get what you pay for. Everyone I have recommended them to has been thrilled. Their prices are high and their punctuality is remarkable. I am terribly spoiled by them, other plumbers never show up when they say they will. I am incredibly impressed with them.

15-year old disposer began leaking from corrosion hole, making sink drain unusable. I placed a call to Cahill, which is fairly poor at handling their phone, received a call back within 3 hours. Identified a replacement unit and price, estimated cost of service call, arranged for that service appointment in one phone exchange. Service was the next day, for which they arrived on time. Plumber was knowledgeable, efficient and considerate. Cleaned up thoroughly. No fuss.

They quickly arranged for David to come out and assess the situation at my convenience. David was extremely professional, spent an extensive period of time assessing the situation, talked to others to be sure he was making the best possible recommendation, and suggested we try a much less expensive alternative first--in fact an alternative that would make no money for Cahill. He then sent me a letter fully explaining the situation, the challenges, and recommending that I push the previous vendor to make the initial less expensive repair. All of this was at no cost. He truly could not have been more professional or responsible. I have previously hesitated to use Cahill as I felt they were expensive, but I will definitely use them in the future--you get what you pay for.

Both times the sales rep came out for estimates, he was patient and informative, and even did a quick diagnosis of our current (now former) furnace that helped us get through the season with it (which is why there were two estimates). I was considering a high-efficiency furnace, but after he went through everything with me and all the retrofitting and risks there would be in our old house, we decided for a less expensive (though less efficient) furnace. Though it is always possible he steered me to a higher margin 80% furnace, my impression is that he was being honest and directing me to the best alternative for our house. They were able to arrange installation for two days later. We were not home for most of the day, but the installation technician was very neat and locked up and left the key through our mailbox when he left. When I came home to inspect, everything was neat and all the work specified was completed. The sales rep followed up a few days later and explained to me how to work the thermostat and even made a small adjustment on the furnace. It is the end of the heating season, so we cannot evaluate right now whether everything will hold up well, but based on a week of heating in March, everything works fine and very quietly, too. I think Cahill's price was fair and made a little more reasonable after slight negotiation. Overall I am very satisfied and would use them again (when we need a new AC unit).

Technician came out after earlier tech from another company failed to resolve problem. Assessed problem as bearing, made palliative efforts to buy some time. Recommended that cost of repairs might make investment in new furnace worthwhile, got an estimator out promptly. After receiving estimates, called Cahill late in the day; they were able to start working promptly the following morning. Installer, Bob, arrived exactly on time. Work spanned two days - furnace was functional during intervening evening. Overall: installer was extremely competent and professional. Displayed adaptability when faced with elements not identified by estimator. Left place cleaner than when he got there. Left me with a sense of security that the work was done well and could be relied on.

I called this company on Wednesday and they made an appointment for me on Friday afternoon. I was asked detailed questions by a very friendly and helpful phone person. I explained that my boiler was an older model and it may need a technician with that experience, this request was taken seriously and the technician did know my older system. On Friday, the technician called and asked if I was ready for an earlier appointment, I was happy to have him arrive early by an hour! His visit was short, thorough, and very helpful. He fixed the problem and explained an additional step of regular fall maintenance that I was unaware of. He explained the boiler system so that I feel confident to troubleshoot myself or call and request service. I found this company to be helpful, knowledgeable and straightforward about pricing throughout and recommend them highly.

We got three estimates for this job. We went with Cahill because their pricing was in line with the others, and their proposal was the most creative. They were also the most prompt--they came the day after I called, and I received the proposal via email a couple hours later. I gave them a deposit check later that afternoon, and they started work 3 days later. It took another company over a month just to get me an estimate. Their proposed solution: a high efficiency boiler with two pumps and controls to allow for zoned heating, pex tubing (instead of copper or iron pipes) to the existing radiators, and a chimney liner to prevent exhaust gases from the water heater from further damaging the bricks after the old boiler was removed. I feel Cahill gave us a creative solution even though it meant less money for them--running pex is much quicker than running copper or iron pipe, and they proposed one boiler with dual pumps rather than two separate boilers which is what one of the others recommended. Their demolition subcontractor came out on a Saturday morning to demolish the old iron pipe and remove the boiler. It took a couple hours and they were very pleasant to deal with. They did a nice job cleaning up afterward as well. The installer arrived a couple days later when all the equipment was ready. It took him 6 days to complete the install, which included hooking up the tubing to the old radiator piping, putting in the new boiler, running 3" pvc exhaust and intake pipes through the brick wall to the outside, climbing on the roof to put in the chimney liner, routing and connecting gas and water lines, and programming the boiler. The quality of the work is excellent. There are a great deal of pipes and tubing and wires involved, and he routed everything as tightly to the ceiling as he could. He did a great job. So far, I'm very happy with the results. The old system vibrated and banged as it ran; the new one is silent. I didn't realize it had turned on one morning until I touched a radiator. It keeps the temperature to exactly what the thermostat is set to. The old one would always overshoot the set temperature by several degrees. I'm now awaiting colder weather and the gas bill to see what kind of savings we'll see. Just the increased headroom in the basement is a big bonus, though. I don't have to duck on the way to the laundry.
Description of Work: Cahill replaced our 25-y.o. boiler with a new high-efficiency model. Also removed the original cast-iron heating pipes and replaced with pex tubing. As part of that, they divided the building (two-flat) into two heating zones, and installed a thermostat on the 2nd floor. They also installed a chimney liner. Now we have more headroom in the basement, a much better and more efficient boiler, independent heating control for both units, and the spalling on the chimney should stop.

We have had Cahill out four time this summer to look at the same leak. All four times they have claimed the leak was from poor caulking around the bathtub and its fixtures. We have caulked the living daylights out of the tub/shower area and the leak continues. They were gracious enough to charge several hundred dollars for each visit, although they did no real work other than a bit of caulking, one drain rodding, and a lot of tearing down of the ceiling on the floor below the tub area. We are disappointed in their response and their ability to actually fix the problem, more so since they're supposed to be the best (or one of the best) plumbing outfits in the area.

It was, obviously, a really expensive job, but they worked quickly and efficiently. They explained what they were doing every step of the way. I've used Cahill for years on three different old houses, and they've always been great. This time was no exception. I was happy to have this resolved before it caused a problem in my house.
Description of Work: I bought a home recently, the inspector recommended I get a camera down the sewer line, since it's an old home. I used Cahill in my previous home, and had them come right after I closed. Justin came, and recommended that I have a clean out put in outside the house, to protect the finished basement. He also found he couldn't get the camera line all the way through. When they tried to rod out the line, they found there was an obstruction, so they had to dig through the garage floor to remove what turned out to be a broken pipe.
