The temporary repair to the old one just to get the fans functioning, plus the new one came close to, I say $6,000. They were very responsive. The funny thing is they didn't rush to send us the bill, so many contractors give you the bill as soon as they're finished with the work and it took us at least two and a half weeks before they even sent us the bill. I guess they were waiting til the first of the month. It was unusual, it was kind of nice. They didn't give us the bomb rush to get the money its kind of cool. They were very, very professional and very careful about things, they had to go through the house to get to the air conditioning because it's in the closet off the balcony. He had to take the old one out and he put in all new insulation in the utility closet. When he was finished and he said stuff, and I know that to be true, needed to be replaced and he replaced all of it. So, they did a very professional and thorough job.

Service was fine. After work was completed and invoice was paid in full, Cahill re-contacted me and said they made a mistake, and wanted another $101 from me. I pointed out that that the invoice was marked as paid in full. I spoke to the owner, and he agreed it was their mistake, and I wouldn't be held liable for their mistake. But I learned later that he put me on a list of people to never do business with again, because I didn't agree to pay the excess charges above and beyond the invoice that was paid in full.

John Cahill Plumbing showed a lack of professionalism in dealing with my complaint and I recommend looking elsewhere. While snaking a tub drain, their plumber managed to crack a steel pipe leading into a drum trap. Yes, the pipes are old, but I've been into that same drum trap many times without issue. Had the plumber simply have opened the top of the drum trap and snaked from the inside, as it's designed to do, it's hard to see how damage could have occurred. A polite inquiry asking how repairs to the cracked pipe would be made was met with rudeness, unprofessionalism and a suggestion that I choose not to repeat here. Instead of acknowledging the plumber's incompetence, John Cahill Jr. instead insisted that the problem was caused by old pipes. I thought the premium (exorbitant, actually) prices Cahill charged was a sign they employ professionals willing to own up to their mistakes. I'm thoroughly disabused of that notion. Won't be using them again.

John Cahill is the owner. He is a terrific guy. I have never had a bad experience with them. They are not inexpensive. They are my goto people because my feeling is you get what you pay for. If I want something done, I want it done right and I am willing to pay for it because everything else is a waste of money. They are expensive, but they are worth it. I think it is not a cheap price but a fair price.

I recently bought a home, and it had a nearly 30 year old furnace and air conditioner. Since they were towards the end of their useful life, I thought it would be prudent to replace the system. I also was having very little airflow to the bedrooms on the second floor. I obtained four quotes, and Dave at Cahill offered the system for a reasonable price, and was the only company to provide me with a solution to the airflow problem on the second floor. They suggested moving a trunk line from its current location to a location closer to where the air flow source was located. This seemed logical to me rather than hoping that the new system would just provide more airflow. Cahill's technician Bob showed up on time, and was very professional with his work. He put down drop clothes in the home to make sure no dust or debris would get on the house, and at the end of his work days he cleaned up all debris. He explained what he was doing and happy to answer any questions. At the end of the job, all of the connections were clean. The airflow to the second floor is much stronger, and the system is very quiet and efficient. When I had the inspector from the municipal building department come for the final inspection, he told me that everything looked great and it's what he expects from Cahill. I highly recommend them.

Two years ago Cahill came out to fix the sewer going to the street. They fixed the sewer and replaced the sidewalk with a horrible looking replacement. I decided to use someone else to fix my catchbasin in March, that company told me that I had a sewer blockage and it was only a couple of feet from where Cahill did their work, so I called Cahill back to look, they came out and verified the sewer was blocked but they said it was further out toward the street (not near where they did their work). I decided to call in a third company, Lucke, and they agreed with the first company that the blockage was only a couple of feet from where it had been dug up by Cahill. I asked for estimates from all three companies and while I was waiting for the one from Lucke, Cahill sent me a bill for $610 just to check for the blockage. The first company charged me $500 and that included fixing the catchbasin. Cahill was very good when I first moved into the house 35 yrs ago, now it seems they have fallen into one of those that overcharge you because you live on the North Shore and don't stand behind their work. I must say they said they would apply the $610 toward fixing the sewer if I decided to use them. You hate to loose that sort of money so I bet a lot of people then sign with them, but I don't plan to.

It is robbery to charge $95 just for showing up and then $45 per 15 minutes. It should not cost $130 for someone to come and light a pilot light. How about guarantying work? The replacing of the thermocouple did not fix the problem. We did not call them back because we cannot afford to have them come out and not fix the problem AGAIN. We went this, the worst winter in years, lighting our pilot light every few days. I am pregnant. Doing this while my husband is out of town is unpleasant to say the least. They should have guaranteed the work from the service and replaced the thermocouple for free, if it was, in fact the issue. Just had another company come to look at our boiler. For $110 total, he stayed an hour and actually fixed the problem, which, apparently was CAUSED by Cahill. He said everything was loose, causing the pilot light to pop out. We haven't had a problem with our boiler since. $400 down the drain to Cahill and we will NEVER use them again. Way too expensive and don't guarantee the work they do. I suppose they got some good reviews, because you have to do some jobs right to stay in business, but we got screwed. By far the WORST service I have ever received. Because of them, an already unpleasant winter was made worse by having a badly serviced boiler. Update: The heart of the issue is that, for a premium charge, a certain level of service quality is expected. When the issue is quickly diagnosed and fixed by a 3rd party you wonder why you just paid a premium. Note that the initial service call was for water leaking from valves AND the boiler being out. The 2nd call was for the pilot light going out frequently. I told the tech that the prior owner had not experienced such issues and the pilot was on when they left the house.. At the time I did not know they'd had the unit service by Cahill However; Cahill not knowing that they themselves had serviced the unit month before the service call(s) and then deciding to replacing the same part indicates a lack of common sense best practices, which you'd expect from a less established firm. If I had know that this was the case my reaction, at the time, to the diagnostics and correction actions taken would have been very different, i.e. I would have pressed the tech to stay longer and investigate further. Also, if the tech noted construction and thought it was an issue, then it would be logical to state it could cause issues with the boiler. The technical could then have offered potential causes and recommended a service call once any work was completed. That was not the case. Clearly the tech did not feel that it was an issue. Citing this after the fact is sidestepping the fundamental problem.
Description of Work: We just moved into our new home. The boiler pilot light went out. Cahill installed the boiler and previous owner recommended the guy they used to service it. It had just been serviced. Guy came and lit the pilot light to a tune of $130. $95 for just showing up. Pilot light went out again. We called Cahill back and they asked us what we thougth they should do. A google search told us to replace the thermocouple. So, they replaced the thermocouple. Which had JUST been replaced during the service which occured before we moved in.

We installed the boiler in 1998. There have been multiple homeowners since. We haven’t serviced the unit every year. We did clean and service the boiler, for the previous owner, on 9/23/13. The service included replacing the thermocouple. Mr. called, as a new customer, on 10/7/13 because the boiler was “leaking from the valves in the basement”. He was informed of charges, as everyone is, when he made the appointment. We arrived finding leaking from the isolation valves & the pilot out. Tech found multiple workers in basement performing construction & remodeling duties. Tech found dripping was due to the heat being off and pilot went out an unknown reason? He tightened isolation valves, re-lit the pilot light and tested; everything tested ok. Mr. scheduled the next appointment on 10/23/13, stating, “The pilot won’t stay on 6 to 8 hrs. & it turns off”. We again quoted the rates, as we always do. Our technician went out and replaced the thermocouple. We haven’t heard from them since. Most parts we install come with a warranty. We have transferred existing parts warranties to new home owners in the past. We weren’t given the opportunity to do so in this case. We spoke with Mr. after reading this post. We asked for a more factual representation of the service. He stated they were upset the history of the equipment wasn’t transferred from customer to customer. We appreciate all feedback and are applying new procedures for the future. We hope in the future our customer’s will come to us & give us an opportunity to resolve any issue first, before going to social media.

I have never had such a bad experience with such a highly-recommended company. I realize that our job was a pain- identify the manufacturer of several faucets in our home so that we could get the parts necessary to fix them. I didn't expect that it would be handled as a top priority job, but I did think that after 6 weeks, we would have SOME sort of answer. I appreciated that it was the holidays when we initially contacted them, but two weeks after the initial call- which cost us around $150 just for the visit- they told us that their "faucet guy" was out of town and he would deal with it when he came back. Finally around the middle of February, we got a call from them asking what finish we had and did we want to handle getting the parts. We let them know that we were not interested in having them handle the job at all at this point. In less than 10 minutes, we got another call from the owner letting us know how sorry he was that this job fell through the cracks and how he hoped that we would reconsider using them. I will NEVER use them for anything in the future. All I hoped is that after giving them money, they would do what they promised in a reasonable amount of time. I contacted RB Plumbing-- from initial consultation to fixing the faucet, it was less than 3 weeks and most of the lag time was waiting for the manufacturer to ship the replacement cartridges. I spent $175 grand total for the job with them.
Description of Work: We contacted Cahill on December 30 to come out to help us identify the manufacturer of some faucets in our home so we could order replacement parts. NO WORK WAS EVER DONE.

The valve was never quite right, but within just a few days the hot water valve became clogged or stopped working properly. There was no longer adequate flow for a warm shower. When I called Cahill I was told that they could not fix what is in my opinion a result of their handiwork - since the valve became clogged and I can no longer take a shower within 30 days of service. They sent a sales rep out prior to the New Year who promised a written estimate / quote for the work - which has become a complete bathroom remodel in their opinion just to get to Code. We're talking taking down the walls and tiles in order to get at the plumbing to install a single-dial system. The thing is I haven't gotten that estimate after over a week and there's been no contact after repeated emailed follow up attempts. In the midst of the coldest days in Chicago I can't even get a call back or a quote for a probably unnecessary complete bathroom remodel. Really, all I want is to be able to take a hot shower and for Cahill to stand behind its work. The situation before I paid them was that I had a leaky faucet but I had good water flow. Now I can't take a hot shower in my only bathroom, I still have a leaky faucet, and instead of fixing it, Cahill is holding me hostage to Code - they won't even will support their work within 30 days. I get that there may be some remodeling needed, but their $280 of handiwork lasted less than 30 days and I'm in worse shape now than when they showed up. Update: The provider called on numerous occasions AFTER several weeks to provide a verbal estimate. I was never asked to pick out fixtures or tiles. I have since called a handyman, who fixed the valves right up with no noise. He pointed out to me that it looked like Cahill had not actually repaired the valves as there were no new washers installed when he took the valves apart. He told me I should ask for my money back from Cahill since they hadn't taken the simple steps to repair the valves for the several hundred dollars I spent on their service.
Description of Work: Cahill came to fix a leaky faucet in my shower in early December. The plumber shut down the building's water and installed a couple of new washers in the valves. I was charged for 1 hour of labor plus a mandatory service call charge - oh and $6 for two washers. He pointed out that my vintage condo isn't up to Code and recommended bringing it up to code. The condo is a National Register of Historic Places building. The recommended solution would be to completely change the two-valve system to a single valve system, a significant change. I told them I'd call for an estimate after the holidays.

Mr. [removed member name] is correct; we haven’t handled his situation in accordance with our company procedures. We didn’t respond to him in a timely manner (Within 48 hrs. for standard quoting). Our plumber was out on December 5, 2013, to repair his leaking tub & shower faucet. It is unfortunate, due to the existing steel piping in the building; sediment (rust) in the piping diminished the pressure. An appointment was made with our estimator (Randy) on December 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. He discussed options with Mr. [removed member name]. The bathroom doesn’t need to be remodeled. We informed Mr. [removed member name]that if he wanted the existing 2 handle tub and shower faucet replaced, by Illinois plumbing code, we would have to install a single handle, anti-scolding tub and shower valve. This would involve wall tiles being removed and replaced. We gave him a verbal estimate, at no cost, while at his home. We are unable to generate a contract with Mr. [removed member name] because he never picked out the fixtures and tile needed for his work. The estimator has attempted to contact Mr. [removed member name], via telephone, on numerous occasions, to apologize and accommodate his requests. We haven’t received a response as of yet. We appreciate all customer feedback. We are taking the proper measures to ensure that situations, such as this, don’t happen again. Thank you for sharing!

Cahill came and unfroze the pipes leading to our kitchen today. Both the hot & cold water pipes were frozen and needed to be defrosted. Notably, they were able to come out today (one of the coldest days in the Chicago area in 30 years) within 4 hours of receiving our phone. We were impressed by this given that 3 other plumbing services had told us that they couldn't make it until tomorrow. The service provider, Rich, was very nice, prompt, and courteous. The price break down for the service was as follows: $50 equipment charge, $135 labor charge, and $95 service call charge. The entire process took 45 minutes.

Very responsive with estimate and proposal, started soon thereafter, each of the trades that worked in the house were very professional and did high quality work. We had one scheduling issue - or maybe it was more of a communication issue - where I was expecting someone that didn't show up. When I spoke with the Cahill office I was told no one was scheduled for that day but I hadn't been told - contractors don't always remember that their customer's time is valuable, too! I also thought there could have been better coordination between Cahill and the painter that they recommended and I hired independently. I've used Cahill for years and have always found them a little pricey but the quality of their work can't be beat.
Description of Work: Powder room renovation, replaced water heater and replaced toilet in a second bathroom. For the powder room I supplied vanity, mirror, lighting fixtures, flooring tile and accessories; Cahill provided toilet, demolition of a tiled 1950's bathroom and all labor (plumbing, carpentry, electrical) and they recommended a painter.

Did an excellent job. I had read that dust would be an issue in the installation. References from other companies had said to be sure to put a drop cloth in every room. The experience was fine. There was a minor hick-up. I provided the pump and they installed it. They were fairly standard on plumbing. The work they did was fine. The gentleman stayed on task and used the time wisely. The work was successful and solved the problem. The price on the one part, I thought was a bit high. They did make the adjustment that I requested.
