+ 0 moreI was told by almost everyone to go with a Velux skylight. Contacted Windy City and they promptly set up someone to come out to give me an estimate. I liked what they showed me and the warranty that was offered. Placed my order and it took approximately 4 weeks to come in. They were very busy, but since my old skylight was leaking, they got me in as soon as it arrived. I also decided to go with the solar shade. One gentlemen came out to install. He was very kind and worked very hard - took him about 6 hours. Extremely pleased with the new skylight. Can't believe the light that comes in now compared to the old one (which was a frosted bubble style). I just can't say enough good things about the new one. Highly recommend them and would use them again.

+ -1 moreWe were going to have a new roof put on and needed to replace the skylight. Had Windy City come out for an estimate and decided to go with them. Let them know when the roof was done - roofers left extra shingles. 2-man crew came out and installed the skylight in about 90 minutes. Cleaned up everything inside and out and disposed of the old skylight. We love the new skylight!

+ -1 moreThey came out to do the work within two days of accepting their quote. All work was completed in one day. Skylights look good, only surprise was that they put in curb mounts which required a large piece if trim around the interior of the skylight to cover up the added wood. Not as clean looking as I was expecting, but so far no leaks.

+ -1 moreI wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They haven't come out to fix it and I don't want to pay them until the worked has been completed properly.
Description of Work: They were supposed to replace the original skylight with an identical one. They put in the skylight and were supposed bring some shingles, but brought the wrong kind. They have destroyed the drywall and have done about 4-5 inches of damaged around the entire inside.

+ -1 moreChad the installer was super polite and very patient with me. I think he did a excellent job and was very careful in the work area. I had cedar paneling on my ceiling area and he was very careful not to damage it around the area he cut out. He was picky about his work and my son in law, who has worked construction, said he did a really good job both inside and in the roofing. Price wise they were a $1,000 cheaper then another company I got an estimate from. The only issue I had was about installing a shade they wanted to charge for installation, but I found out that Velux installs the shade for free you just have to mark the box when ordering. In the end I ordered a blind instead as much cheaper then a shade and since I could reach the shade to adjust a much better deal for me. I had a special order in that I wanted a wood finish and ordered such. Windy City Skylights was nice enough to bring out the skylight a few days earlier so I could stain and poly.

+ -1 moreI called Windy City Skylights to get a quote on replacing existing skylights, one of which was leaking. I thought I might replace all three electric venting skylights with solar venting skylights but decided to replace the one that was leaking now and see how I liked the solar light. Tom came out to measure and confirmed what I already knew. The wrong type of skylights were originally installed. The pitch of my roof was too low for deck mounted skylights and they should have been installed in curbs built to provide the needed pitch. Tom quoted the price of the solar skylight and EDL curb. Approximately two weeks later Tim called to schedule the installation. One installer arrived within the "window" (pun intended) and worked all day to remove the old skylight, build the curb, install the new skylight and put in the new drywall which was needed now that new curb was in place. He worked 12 hours but didn't have time to put a coat of "mud" on the drywall. We scheduled another day for him to do that which took about 90 minutes. He had to return a third time to put on another coat of mud, sand and paint. When he was finished it looked PERFECT. I waited for a couple of hard rains to write this review. No leaks! The solar light works nicely and is more quiet than the electric ones. A nice plus is that the solar light is eligible for a 30% tax credit. I definitely recommend this company. Everyone I dealt with was professional and accommodating.

+ -1 moreGot a phone quote when I scheduled the appointment. The "estimator" came to check size, and confirmed that the skylight was a Velux. Another service told us that it was not a Velux, but a builder's special. The Windy City salesman knew the size and number of the skylight just by looking at it. I felt assured that the company was legit and would do a good job. A formal proposal was written. There was added price due to the steep pitch of our roof, but price was $1200 cheaper than estimate from window replacement company. Two weeks after agreement was signed and Windy City ordered the skylight, the installation was scheduled. Installer did a great job and took extra time to suggest finishes for the inside drywall well. Another company said the drywall needed replacement, but after removing the old skylight it is clear that the drywall is not damaged and only needs paint. We had spare roof shingles to patch in around the skylight, and area looks great. This was an easy transaction and all went smoothly. No surprises, very professional people at Windy City.

+ -1 moreCompany was hired to replace skylite and we felt one man was sent out to do a two man job. We ended up helping him bring up the skylite onto the roof. Installation went smooth at first then had a problem with skylite not closing all the way. It is an automated skylite and has a feature to stop if there is something blocking it. The installer was not able to trouble shoot after 3 visits and finally sent out a different installer. He recalibrated it and it works good now.

There were no delays, the work was performed on time as promised and I was completely satisfied with finished product. I would definitely use them again
Description of Work: I wanted to replace a 20 year old skylight that began leaking last winter. I selected estimates from 2 companies rated highly on Angie's List. I was very satisfied with the estimate from Windy City Sky Lights. Tom showed up on time and was very thorough in inspecting our old skylight by actually going on our roof to determine the condition of our old skylight and what preparations were necessary to replace it. He determined a retrofit with a curb mounted skylight and flashing would be best to insure a more water resistant fit for the new skylight. He was very competent in explaining the work required. The next day we received another estimate from another highly rated company. However, the estimator didn't bother to inspect the roof area but used his tape measure inside to determine the replacement size and recommended a deck mounted replacement as we had originally, with a similar estimate as Tom but without the improved curb-mounted installation. Of course this convinced me to choose Windy City and I wasn't dissappointed. I was promised installation within 3 weeks and the installer arrived on time and did an excellent job. He was very courteous and professional. He even touched up with paint some of the previous interior water stained marks that he was able to reach from the roof. He cleaned up the work area very well when finished. Overall, I was very pleased with job from start to finish. Also their installation labor is guaranteed for fifteen years when using standard Velux flashing systems which 5 more years than the standard 10 years.

+ -1 moreThe workers that they sent out for the job were very unprofessional to the point of smoking will installing the glass and then stubbing out the cigarettes on a wood shake roof. they also left the butts on the roof. The skylight which never leaked started to leak after they replaced the glass. I called them numerous times requesting that they fix the leak. They sent the team out twice more, but the leak persisted. Finally after numerous calls, Jeff came out and told me that therre was nothing that they could or would do. I have since had to replace the whole unit using another contractor.

+ -1 moreIt went great. I worked with Tom Procich. He gave me the best price out of all the quotes that I had gotten. He followed up with me numerous of times unlike others who you never hear from or you have to chase them down. He gave me a lot of information about the company. he made me feel comfortable. I also like the fact that sky lights is their specialty. They did have to push are appointment back a week due to storms in the area but it wasn't a biggie. The guy who installed it did a great job. He was there on time and finished within 3 hours or so. I'd likely will have them to add one in our bed room in the coming years.
Description of Work: Replaced skylight that was made for a shingle/slope roof with the correct skylight for a flat roof.

Tom, the sales person and general troubleshooter, responded immediately to my call for help when the 25 year old huge skylight in our master bedroom started leaking. Water started running down the walls during a dark and stormy night - and I was frantic a recurrent rain would ruin our high gloss new flamed birch flooring and antique furniture. Tom - who is amazing and wonderful- got Terry, one of the extremely competent repair guys, to come on a Saturday (I believe it was a holiday weekend) to tarp over the window until a new skylight could be ordered. I should add my roof is steep and hard to reach. They had to use 40 ft ladder - and Tom came in from Downer's Grove to city to help Terry . Was a great relief to me - as I was about to leave town for a week. Tom and Terry saved me (or, rather, our floors). The gentleman who did the actual final new skylight installation was Chad. He was professional, smart, careful, thorough in his explanations - and managed to troubleshoot my existing non-standard skylight opening with clever and skillful technique. He had to cut my too-high drywall curb (did a stellar job - I will need minimal cosmetic drywall repair inside my atrium bedroom ceiling- mostly where prior rain leak caused cracking at corner of drywall near old flashing). Price was as promised - in spite of time required to make the window fit my "custom" opening. Chad was neat and meticulous. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with all of the above. HIGHLY recommend them.
Description of Work: Emergency tarping over leaking skylight on very steeped roof. Subsequent installation of new glass Vellux skylight in a custom-sized space - that required cutting down a pre-existing non-standard 10" "curb" to 6" - and fitting the new window. The size of the skylight is 50" by almost 4 ft. Perfect job!

+ -1 moreTom came out to give me an estimate on replacing a cracked skylight. I agreed to have the work done and within a couple weeks I had the new skylight installed. The second skylight was more of an issue since it needed to open to give access to the roof but the size of the current skylight did not match the replacement. Chad was the installer. When he installed the first skylight he looked at the second and came up with a couple options for replacing it. He reviewed his thinking with me in detail and helped me tremendously in deciding on a plan of action. Chad did a wonderful job installing the skylight which included the need to build a larger base for it to sit on. The end result matched exactly what he had diagrammed out for me. Chad was also very careful to protect the inside of the house during the installation. I would use this company again without question.
