This was my second experience with Joe and Matrix Flooring. Joe was on time, worked without making a mess, cleaned up and did a flawless job. He even fixed the sub-floor squeaks and put out the trash on curb, for no extra cost! Great price for an even greater contractor job. I will be having Joe do a third job in the near future and would unabashedly recommend him to anyone considering hardwood flooring. Just hire this guy!

Joe did a great job. He arrived on time for the quote and to start the job and worked very diligently. The tear out was very time consuming and difficult, but was well done. When he ran into problems, as is common in these types of projects, he consulted me so we could discuss solutions. He took care to keep the dust to a minimum and to partition off the work area from the rest of the house during the sanding and finishing. The job took a total of 5 days with most of the last 3 days involving staining and clear coat applications. The floors look fantastic and the finish carpentry on the baseboards is first rate. I was very impressed and recommend Joe and Matrix to anyone interested in having this type of work done at a very reasonable cost. One thing that anyone contemplating this type of floor refinishing project ought to consider is the strong odor from the clear coat finish, the Swedish floor finish. Fortunately, we were able to close off that part of the house and ventilate it to the outdoors so that the odor didn't get into the rest of the house very much, but it took about 3 weeks for the odor to abate. If you can't close off the house like this or arrange to be absent from the house for a few weeks after the finish is applied, you will find these fumes to be extremely irritating.

The entire process, and I mean the entire process was near perfect. From talking to the owner, Joe, over the phone to having him do the work to scheduling and finishing the job it was near perfect. Joe is trustworthy, friendly, professional, clean, punctual, exacting to detail and always gives great advice. The price was fair and the for the quality of the work, exactly where it should have been. I cant recommend this gentlemen enough. The best thing is he did all of the work himself, no subcontractors. I am using his services again to install hardwood floor as we speak. Get Joe to work on your wood floor and you wont regret it. -Nick D.

We just closed on a new house. We really wanted someone who could jump right in and get the floors refinished right away. We called three re-finishers for estimates. One gave us an estimate over the phone without seeing the property. One never showed up. Joe (Gelu) of Matrix came out for the estimate on time and was willing to start the next day. He would even work through the 4th of July so we could move in on Friday. His price was higher than the phone estimate we had been given, but he actually saw what he was going to be working with, and he was available. He also had great reviews on Angie's List, so we went with Joe.He showed up on time the next day and began cutting the carpet up. We left to do some shopping and received a call that he had unearthed some water damage under the carpet, and we needed to see it before he went any further. We turned around and came back. The floor was a disaster area. While the edges which we had pulled up looked OK, the traffic area and all the way down the hall was covered with awful stains and what looked like mold. I was horrified and asked how on earth had this happend? Guess what - not water damage - dog urine damage. Evidently a dog had been locked up in the house and had peed hundreds of times on the carpet which had gone all the way through to the hardwood. Some of the stains were lighter, some quite dark and some were covered in this awful moldy stuff. I was heartsick. Joe asked us if we wanted to just put carpet down over it. I did NOT want that covered up and asked how much could be sanded out. He scraped a layer off and then put some dark walnut stain down (thank goodness we wanted a dark stain) so we could see the result.. The lighter pet stains disappeared, but the darkest ones were still evident. He then tried putting water on the wood to open up the grain, and it looked better, although still not great. We told him to go ahead and do his best and we'd try to do something creative with area rugs.That afternoon we stopped by to see how the sanding had gone. Only the very darkest stains remained. He stained the floors the next day, and the floors began to look really good. By the time he had put the sealer on, it was very difficult to find the urine stains at all even when you knew where to look. (Instead of "Find Waldo," we played "Find the dog pee.") The dark walnut stain brings out the gorgeous grain of the oak and it is truly beautiful.Joe does all his work himself. He is very professional and a true craftsman. I paid him in cash since we only had out of state checks. He didn't count it right away, but when he did, he called us back and told us we had given him too much - that the quote had been for $1350 (including carpet removal.) We were so happy, we said keep it all!

I can't say enough about how professional and accommodating he was. I had to reschedule from the original date due to other contractors delays, Joe was very kind to do the job in two separate shifts. First he replaced the floor where needed so the other contractor could continue finishing the bathroom. Then he came back about 10 days later to do the sanding and finish. He used plastic to prevent a huge mess and was very diligent about making sure no dust got into the final coat. The floors look great, I wish every contractor was like Joe. He is kind, competent and does exactly what he says he will do. If you need floors done, call Joe and you will definitely be happy, I will recommend him to all my friends. Joe refinished the floors for both my mother in law and brother in law a few years ago and continues to be an excellent contractor.

Gelu, (Joe), was great to work with. I had to reschedule the job twice and Joe was very accommodating. He arrived on time and with an additional worker that allowed him to get all of the original finish removed in one day. He also used plastic to protect the counters, cabinets and block off any dust from getting into the other rooms. Two coats were applied the second day because Joe was able to start early. The third day the final coat was applied in the morning, and buffed out in the afternoon. The product used has a very strong smell to it and you and your animals must leave the house until the day after the final finish is applied. Matrix Flooring does offer a water based stain but it is not as durable. The finish that Matrix recommends is good for heavy use and even industrial applications. We just used a clear coat to allow the natural grain of the wood to show through. This was the first time the floors had been refinished, 17 years since they were new. I had some bad stains and minor damage to the floor all of which were repaired. The floor looks as good or better than new. I highly recommend Matrix Flooring, Inc. if you are looking to refinish your floors. FYI, Joe told me that if we could have avoided the total refinishing if we had the floors serviced every 3-4 years with a buffing and perhaps single coat to fill in any problem areas. As is normal, prevention is the best cure.

Joe came out to give us an estimate the very next day and started work about a week later. Did a great job and took his time to make sure every thing came out right. Joe is very easy to talk to,plus he is a very nice guy. His price was lower than other quotes we received. He uses plastic to keep down the dust ,which really worked out . Take my word for it, you will really be happy with his work. It sure would be nice if other contractors would be like Joe.

Gelu was great to work with. I figured this out when I first left a message on his answering maching. I wasn't promptly called back, so I left another message a few days later. He called soon thereafter stating he was at that moment on his annual vacation. He set up a date and time to come to give us an estimate. He was prompt, nice and extremely knowledgeable. He recognized a problem that we had not thought of: that the ledge/molding at the top of the stairs would have to be replaced. Neither of the other estimates we'd received had mentioned this. And I was delighted because the people who had installed the runner on the stairs had done it incorrectly and the top ledge/molding was left with multiple nail holes. The red oak arrived when planned; he and his assistant arrived as expected. They worked efficiently and professionally. It took a weekend longer than the originally planned five days because we wanted an oil based finish. The floor looks beautiful, nicer that the one we'd had done downstairs five years earlier. And the baseboards were installed without base shoe and have very very few gaps between the baseboard and the floor. We are extremely pleased with the job.

The job was done over three days and each day was a success. The first day was patching new wood into the old floor and 2 steps, the second was sanding about half the area and applying 2 coats of Synteko and the third day was buffing the entire area and applying a finishing 3 coat of Synteko.

Joe does all of the work himself and does not use subcontractors. We are thrilled with Joe's work and professionalism as compared to that of other installers we've had. He did a truly magnificent job, and his price was the best. He is very knowledgeable about hardwood and problems with installation. Joe came on time and had the job done in less time than we expected. He cleaned up as he worked, and really had the finished job shining. We purchased the hardwood from Lumber Liquidators and had their installers put down the flooring in other parts of the house. What a mistake this was (used bad boards, sawdust all over our garage & not cleaned up, uneven cutting at the ends, and very expensive). When we decided to put the same hardwood in adjoining rooms, we certainly wanted a different installer. Thank goodness Matrix Flooring was on Angie's List. I can't believe the difference between Joe's work and attitude and those from Lumber Liquidators.

I contacted Matrix flooring for an estimate to installed first grade maple flooring in my living and dining room. Joe came out and e mailed me an estimate. My major concern was this hardwood floor would butts up to ceramic tile which is no longer available and whoever installed the floor needed to be careful not to break the tile. Also I had other work being performed and the flooring contractor would have to work with the other contractor's schedule. After 4 other flooring estimates I felt most comfortable with Matrix Flooring and his price was the best for the same product. Joe delivered the flooring and scheduled the work. He started the work on a Monday and I very quickly realized that he was a true craftsman. He knew exactly what to do and he worked skillfully and efficiently. He cleans up after himself and the job was much less disruptive than I thought it would be. Joe is a highly skilled craftsman and a man of integrity and it was a pleasure having him work in my home. I would recommend Matrix Flooring to anyone who needs hardwood flooring installation or repairs, Joe really knows his trade. My floors are beautiful and I never dreamed he could he could make the transition from the tile to the hardwood floor so perfect. I am completed satisfied with the finished product. I can't thank this good man enough for the beautiful work he has done in my home.

Called to describe a problem with a squeaking hardwood floor and asked if he would come by and take a look. He was polite, but asked me questions I could not answer, then hung up on me when I asked again if he would come by and take a look. I know it would probably be an aggravating repair, and was prepared to pay, and prepared to schedule something at his convenience as a fill in job, but he apparently did not want to be bothered with repairs.

We wanted to install a hardwood floor on a lower bedroom floor. I had gotten several other quotes for the floor. Joe suggusted that we go with a pre-engineered floor that was floating since it was going on top of concrete. He made several trips out with samples so we could try to match to existing flooring throughout the house. He placed the order and delivered the flooring several days before he was going to install in so it could cure to the room temperature. He called the night before he was going to install the floor to let me know the time. The job was finished in one day I hardly knew he was here. Everything was left clean and tidy. Joe was a pleasure to work with. He really made the project stress free. And the quote was right on target I would hire him again he was a pleasure to work with.

We had about 600 square feet of floors that had not been touched since the home was built in 1999 and with a toddler and two large dogs, the floor was in desperate need of re-finishing. I interviewed and received bids from five companies, with Matrix being amongst the most competitive (reasonably-priced). Gelu (Joe) did the work while we were out of town visiting family. He was trustworthy, professional, and his quality of work was excellent. We removed all furniture and cleared everything off the floors before we left for our trip -- when we returned, the floors were beautiful (looking brand new), the house dust-free and you could not tell they had spent the prior three days completely refinishing the floor. I strongly and very comfortably recommend his services and wouldn't hesitate to use Matrix in the future for any flooring work.

Joe, from Matrix flooring did a great job installing the floor. He also replaced the old baseboard trim. The price quoted was quite a bit lower than some other installers, however, the quality was first rate.

Gelu explained everything before starting, educating us and answering all our questions The finished floor is beautiful!! It is impossible to point out the location of the damaged area. Gelu is exceptionally professional. His service was prompt and courteous and his estimate was exactly the price charged. He sealed off the room and cleaned up as expected. We could not be happier about his workmanship or the price of his services.

We are very pleased with him. We had some other bids and Matrix price was a lot cheaper. He did quality work and was very professional. He did some detail work around our fireplace that was amazing. He works for himself and was very responsive. He came over the day I called him to give me a quote. After the first day of work, we considered him a friend of the family with high integrety and honestly. I would and have recommend him to others and they have also been happy with his work.

This man is a homeowner's dream come true. He does all his own work with no subs. He is very organized, clean, accomodating, and he wants the customer to have exactly what they want. I have an older home, to which some unforseen problems arose, and he figured everything out quickly and efficiently--he is a problem solver.

I just completed a $45,000 rehab, and of all the contractors I hired, Gelu was my favorite! I found Gelu/Matrix Flooring by sending out an email to several friends in the area for contractor recommendations. Three of them sent back Gelu's name as a possibility. I'm glad I hired him - he takes pride in his work and he's truly gifted at hardwood flooring. All the floors were badly worn and several were gouged by the previous owner's attempt at sanding the floors himself. Gelu was able to remove all signs of gouging and returned the floors to looking new. Sanding, as well as the finish coats and polish were smooth and uniform (we went with a satin finish based on his recommendation). One kitchen floor had linoleum tile glued directly to the maple. Here, Gelu completely removed all the linoleum and again returned the floors to new-looking condition. Unfortunately, the second kitchen's maple was unsalvageable. Here, Gelu removed all the flooring to the sub-floor and laid new red oak (we chose oak over maple because it stains better). The work Gelu did in this kitchen was impressive. After he finished, there were no gaps and no squeaks. The new flooring flowed perfectly into the other rooms which have 80 year old floors. Further, he custom-mixed a stain color to compliment our new cabinetry. Gelu also made new thresholds for the doorways which needed them, which fit flawlessly into the door frames. Gelu was courteous and professional through the whole process. Due to problems we had with our plumber, we had to re-schedule Gelu repeatedly, which he accepted gracefully and did his best to accommodate us. In sum, we are extremely pleased with our newly refinished floors and have received many compliments on them. If you're looking for a great flooring guy, definitely consider hiring Gelu/Matrix Flooring.
