We had back up from a drain line, and it was particularly difficult to access in our vintage multi-unit building. Vanguard was able to diagnose the problem and fix it. They were prompt, professional and very reasonably priced. I will definitely be using them again at our buildings.

It took three visits but, in the end, Jan, the owner of Vanguard Plumbing, did a great job. The problem was a kitchen sink leak and the solution ended up being the installation of a new hot water tank under the sink. Although the initial installation of the new system failed (it leaked two weeks later), Jan was extremely responsive. He came out the next day, repaired it, and I haven't had a problem with it since (3.5 months ago).

Vanguard Plumbing and Sewer Inc is the BEST IN THE BUSINESS. Jan and his team are amazing and do wonderful work. The attention to detail and customer service you receive is EXCELLENT. We highly recommend and will not hesitate to call if or when another issue occurs.

Jan was very responsive, asking for photos of all the issues so he could assess the repairs needed and costs. He was quick to provide an estimate and schedule the service. The service people arrived on time (with a call 30 minutes in advance to let me know they were on the way), and all repairs were performed well, and the cost was essentially in line with the estimate. I would definitely use Vanguard again.

Jan and George have done 5 different jobs for me at a couple different places that I've lived: (1) Fix and replace a leaking toilet flange that someone else improperly installed before I bought my condo, (2) Replaced my leaking water heater (3) Replace a leaking shower valve as well as old supply lines to the valve + install new quarter-turn shutoffs, (4) install a new zero-freeze exterior hose bib plus an interior quarter-turn shutoff to the hose bib and (5) replace leaking sewage pipes. Every single job was done with a very high level of detail. When these guys sweat pipes, every joint is perfect. They clean off residual flux after they make connections. They properly anchor pipes in walls so there is no movement in the pipes when you open and close valves. When they installed a new water heater for me, they did a great job of centering it in the utility closet and routing the pipes, drain and shutoff valves so it would be much easier to service in the future. When they installed a new shower valve and fixtures for me one time, they did a fantastic job finding high-end, high-quality stuff that fit perfectly and matched the finishes of my bathroom. Of all the tradesman that I've hired to do work on my current or previous homes, I probably trust these guys more than anyone else to do exceptional, high-quality work on every job.

I had an excellent experience with Vanguard Plumbing. The metal drain pipes on my 15yrs kitchen sink finally gave up the ghost and I needed them replaced quick. Jan from the main office was really good about getting back to me quickly with a quote and even called to follow up when a time slot opened up and he had a crew nearby. The two man crew was very professional, answering some DIY questions while they were working. They did a great job of cleaning up the area after completing the work. The original quote was for two hours of labor, but luckily they were able to complete the work in just under 1hr so the $300 charge for labor and materials was a nice bonus. Great company and would definitely use them again.

The project undertaken was to replace a 20 year old water heater with new and correct issues causing poor water pressure in a 60+ year old Chicago residence. Jan and Chris arrived on time and hit the ground running and never slowed down. The water tank was replaced and brought on line in less time than was estimated. If you admire good craftsmanship you'll love Vanguard, the pipe fitting and copper sweating are truly superior . It made me question what I received from prior service providers. As for the poor water pressure issue, I had convinced myself that the only remedy would be to have a booster pump installed. Our home has had remodeling of the plumbing on all three levels. So all the piping has been modernized and replaced with copper except for the holt/cold risers between the basement and the two bathrooms. After Jan had a look at the bathroom fixtures and the transitions between the new copper and the old galvanized riser pipes he had a different idea as to what would fix the pressure issue. He suggested replacing the valve system in the new shower that had mixing valve. And, replace the non-brass die-electric unions (connecting the old piping to the new), with brass fittings before spending the roughly $4000.00 to install a booster pump. As it turned out, at each point in this process Jan was right, there was significant blockage in the fixtures and DE unions. Long story short, I'm very happy with the water pressure at all of my fixtures and it cost a lot less in labor and parts than the booster pump! These guys know plumbing and that is evident in their honesty, workmanship and troubleshooting.

George did a great job! I had two drains that were blocked. George was able to clear one relatively quickly with his power rodder. The second drain prove to be a challenge. He worked on it diligently and used a variety of techniques to try to clear the clog. He didn’t give up until the clog was cleared. To my relief I didn’t have to replace the plumbing behind the wall thanks to George’s ingenuity. I’m very pleased with the work that he did as well as Vanguard’s Professional approach and manner. I highly recommend Vanguard for all your plumbing needs.

I have used Vanguard plumbing 3 times and everytime they have done very quality work. Most recently my sewer drain was backing up and it turned out that the city pipe in the street was broken. Vanguard setup a meeting with city inspector and provided evidence of the problem and it got taken care of.

Let's talk about the amazing service and value that Jan and his team put on customer satisfaction. When I first reached out to Jan about a new sump pump and backup install he requested pictures so he can accurately provide an estimate. I loved this because it allowed me to get an idea of what I am going to need to invest without wasting any time having someone come to my house. Within minutes I had an estimate emailed to me. After deciding to go with Vanguard his team showed up a day later and they did an amazing job and they were extremely professional. This is where Vanguard took it to the next level with customer services and support. After spending a small fortune on this new sump pump system the alarms were going off more than what I would expect. Jan immediately took charge of the situation and worked with the manufacture to have my system upgraded due to a small defect. A few days later he was over to install the upgraded system. We thought our issues were over but the story doesn't end here. We had a different alarm going off after the upgraded was installed so after sending Jan a couple of videos he was back over to troubleshoot the system. Jan went over every part and figured out a different part of the system was defected. Luckily he had a brand new replacement part in the truck. It has been a week since Vanguard and Jan completed their work and I really couldn't be happier with all the attention and service we got. Obviously there is some disappointment with the manufacture of the pump but that isn't on Vanguard. At the end of the day Vanguard and Jan stood by their work, they stand by the products, and the went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. I would HIGHLY recommend Vanguard for all your plumbing and sewer needs!

plumbers who came were punctual, professional, and communicated very well. The quoted price for the water heater replacement was slightly higher than another plumber I contacted but I decided to go with Vanguard because they seemed like a more professional outfit, and I felt they would be better equipped to handle the situation if the job proved more complicated than you would expect. They finished up the work quickly, and cleaned thoroughly before they left. the gas valve was an additional issue that came up at the last second, which I asked them to fix and which they fitted in at a very reasonable price. It was an issue that the gas company had pointed out to me, just a day or two before vanguard was scheduled to come for the water heater, so I considered myself lucky I was able to get it taken care of so quickly.

Overall, I had a positive experience with Vanguard Plumbing. My toilet finally started showing its age and needed to be rebuilt. Plumbers arrived on time and stuck to the agreed-upon proposal of time-to-complete the job as well the total cost of labor and parts (so there were no unexpected surprises when the work was finished).

I am overall very happy with work/responsiveness of Jan, George, and Chris. Jan answered all of my questions/concerns and was very responsive during the quote/booking process. I marked "N/A" for price because I haven't had any other plumbing work done before, so I don't think I can comment on that. George and Chris gave me an expected ETA, and while they were working, they answered any questions I had about the work that they were doing. They also pointed out issues and offered suggestions when rerouting my pipes that I thought were helpful. And lastly, they left my place cleaner than they started. Really neat clean work by George and Chris definitely knew what they were doing. Jan the owner was responsive from the very first phone call to them and confirmed all aspects of the work, even followed up afterwards to make sure I was a satisfied customer. Perfection plus.

Vanguard was fantastic! While replacing a garbage disposal at my rental unit, I snapped one of the drain pipes. I called Vanguard (spoke with Jan) and sent them some pics of the under sink area. Jan gave me a fair quote and was able to come out the next day. He was on time, super nice and did an excellent job. Final cost came in under the quote. After he was done he even cleaned the work space and provide some education as to where the unit water shut off was located. All in all very happy with the work. I would absolutely hire again!
