He was great. I sent him pictures of a leak at the water meter that came from the outside into the home. He was very thorough and he took a look at everything that was needed. He did a fantastic job and he explained everything to me in detail. I would recommend him to anyone. He was the most knowledgeable service provider that we spoke with.

I have had consistently excellent experience with this firm. Jan is professional, experienced, ethical, reasonably priced, and SUPER responsive. He is my go-to plumber.

Jan is great. He is efficient, punctual, informative, and effective. This is the third time he has been to our house, all for different and unrelated plumbing issues. This time, our kitchen faucet started leaking from the base over a Saturday night, resulting in a disconcerting pool of water below our kitchen sink on Sunday morning. Jan came out on Monday, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the faucet. Problem solved. We continue to be impressed with his work. While he was replacing the faucet, Jan observed that the new garbage disposal we had just installed the previous week had been installed in a less than ideal manner (why did we have the big-box store install it?). From now, it's Jan and Vanguard all the way.

Installed a cap on a basement laundry room floor drain which was worth about $25 in material at best. Service process was professional which I appreciated. However, I was being upsold a higher grade garbage disposal which happened after I inquired about the cost to install one I had already purchased online. I understand the difference between a cadillac vs. a Hyundai, but all I needed was a Hyundai. Did not purchase the garbage disposal.

he was fantastic. Very meticulous, at first tried to completely fix the old one, got it to work, and thought he was all done. Then as he was testing it he noticed a tiny crack that would eventually grow into a bigger problem. So he intstalled a new one. It works great, he had other good advice for us as well.

Jan the installer and man I dealt with from start to finish was very professional, kind and understanding. I live in a highrise condo building in downtown Chicago. Any work that is done to any plumbing fixtures must go through the condo association. Jan worked with the building's chief engineer and explained to me and him all that needed to be done and how he would accomplish it. The plan was approved and the work was done as promised. Jan even found a problem with the building's plumbing that the engineer had missed and Jan fixed it. The price was reasonalbe for the work done and I would highly recommend Jan to anyone in need of a plumber. Hopefully I will not need him again but if I do I will not hesitate to call him and Vanguard Plumbing.

I was very pleased. The person who did the work was completely professional, efficient and courteous. He arrived on time, He replaced a toilet seal and did a couple of other minor jobs and also did a very thorough inspection of all the plumbing in the house. I would be glad to use the company again.

After careful consideration and speaking with other plumbers and Jan I would like to say I believe he did perform a thorough diagnostic of water pressure problem....He profusely apologized and offered to refund money paid.....I feel an error may have occurred and would like to apologize and I may have been a little to harsh in my review...... I truly believe he is an honest and professional who believes in exceeding customer expectation and service.....I admire this from him and his company and would not hesitate to call on him in the future to perform work on my house,,,,After speaking to my parents they felt the same way.......

I needed someone to come out and address a leaking kitchen sink. I called several plumbers and could only get appointments a few days out to come look at the problem. I called Vanguard and they agreed to come out later that day. They came at the time they had told me they were going to come out. Quickly found the problem, let me know the approximate cost to fix it, and agreed to do the work under a then available Angie's List Big Deal promotion, saving me money in the end. The job was very thorough, as they not only addressed the leak, but also made sure that all water flow in the house returned to normal after the water had been shut off during the work that was performed. I would highly recommend Vanguard to anyone needing plumbing services.

They did a great job! They gave us a lot of options to choose from. They wanted to make sure we were aware of all the options before qouting prices. They did a very thorough job.

My experience with Vanguard was not good...Buyer beware! The owner/ plumber was punctual. As I took him to two toilets that were having problems, he proceeded to QUICKLY quote cost for the kitchen faucet and installation - $450. As for the toilets- his recommendation was to replace the interior parts of the toilets and his quotes were $350-$450 for each toilet. I was speechless, as one of the toilets was less than 4 years old and certainly did not appear that all insides needed to be replaced. In order to correct the constant running of water in this toilet I had to juggle the toilet handle to make it stop. I agreed for him to repair the newer toiler by only replacing the handle and resetting the existing parts to stop the running of the water. This took less than 10 minutes and he charged me $72 out of my $99 but assured me I had a remaining $127 because his Angies deal was worth $199. This guy's prices were inflated. I have left messages on his answering services about a refund because I felt cheated. I have received no response.

We are new to the city and are dependent upon word of mouth and Angies list for recommendations regarding home repairs. I called Vanguard Plumbing and Jan answered immediately. He politely answered my questions. We made an appt for that same day and he appeared on time. He had to find the source of a water leak that was showing up in the basement ceiling. He found it after a methodical search which required putting some small holes in the 1st floor walls. He informed me everytime he had to move the holes and was very professional in his manner and approach to solving the problem. He replaced the section of leaky pipe and cleaned up when he was finished.His price was reasonable based on the amount of work done and the time it took to locate the leak which was hidden in the wall behind a wooden panel. I would absolutely use Vanguard Plumbing again and recommend this service to anyone needing a plumbing service!

Yesterday was the third time this year I have used Vanguard Plumbing and Sewer and each time I am more impressed with Jan's work and professionalism than the time before. In this particular case, I called Jan to make an appointment for some repairs to the water volume control in one of the showers in my townhome. As usual, Jan personally answered the phone when I called and was able to commit to a time that was convenient for me within 48 hours of when I called. Also, as usual, he called me an hour before he was scheduled to show-up to let me know that he was on his way. My original purpose of calling Jan at Vanguard was to ask him to repair the broken water volume control valve noted above. Amazingly, about ninety minutes before Jan showed-up at my townhome, an electrician who was doing some work inside my home involving some drilling ruptured a water line in my wall. I shut-off the water in my home to avert catastrophe and when Jan showed-up on my doorstep I explained to him that, suddenly, I had a whole new issue that needed urgent attention. Jan reacted on the fly, quiclky assessed the situation and came-up with a strategy to repair the water line. He was able to splice-in a new section of pipe and complete an effective, thorough and professional repair job from the tools and supplies on his truck - without even knowing what was in store for him when he got to my house. Then he moved-on to the original reason I called him and, again, came up with an effective and cost-efficient fix for my broken water volume control valve. Each time I have experienced Jan's service, I have been impressed by his creativity and resourcefulness. He always seems to find effective, cost-efficient and lasting solutions instead of suggesting easier and more expensive options like just replacing everything (which I'm usually prepared to do if need be). I also always appreciate the fact that I always seem to learn a bunch of useful stuff whenver Jan comes to my home. He is full of good advice about plumbing, fixtures, maintenance routines, etc. And, he always checks his work and fixes other things he finds that I wasn't even aware of until he points them out to me. In this particular case, I asked his advice about a broken drain mechanism in my bathtub fully expecting him to tell me that I was probably going to have to pull the tub out and undertake some lengthy and expensive ordeal. He started to give me his professional opinion and then just ran downstairs and grabbed a couple of tools and fixed it without charging me for it. Jan has become my "go to" guy regarding all things plumbing. I highly recommend Vanguard's service - in fact, my only concern is that if too many of my neighbors find out how good he is, he might become less available.

. Jan of Vanguard Plumbing is extremely knowledgeable and explains the problems and solutions in as much detail as you want. He is the most pleasant, personable, responsible and honest home repair professional who has ever done work for me. The first time I used his services was in 11/11. He identified and fixed a problem that multiple other plumbers could not (they still billed me for very high fees).I would never use any other plumbing service as long as Jan of Vanguard Plumbing and Sewer is still in business.Jan is a true professional in every way.

We have been having plumbing issues over the past 6-8 months (back-up of our kitchen sink and lower level shower). We had another vendor come in multiple times, but the issue kept reoccurring, especially after heavy rains. We called Vanguard and Jan was out within the next 2 days. He unclogged our shower via rodding and determined there were other issues causing problems- mainly the plumbing lines running underground were not properly installed when the building was built and our ejector pump was not working properly. In essence, our kitchen sink and shower plumbing lines are connected (not to code) and it appears our ejector pump and sump pump were not to code as well- three separate issues. To rectify the kitchen/shower drain issue will entail major work (pulling up tiles, concrete, etc.-a job we are not prepared to do right now). Jan provided us a quote to replace our ejector pump and he was out within the next 2 days to replace it. He mentioned it was the worst he had ever seen and he ended up spending nearly an entire day replacing it. After televising the lines, it was also determined that one of the outside drains that should be connected to the sump pump is actually connected to the ejector pump (another issue not to code). Jan was very thorough and provided us with other items to think about, but put no pressure on us to do anything immediately. The work completed was very professional and we would recommend Vanguard (and Jan) for your plumbing issues.

He did a really great job. I am really impressed with the service. He cleans up well. He sticks to the schedule and the budget. We did add a few things and he told me the price upfront. I was on a strict deadline and he was able to meet it. I needed a carpenter to do work in the walls. He recommended and arranged the carpenter for me too. I have already recommended him to several people. He really did a nice job!

Jan was very accommodating in getting me scheduled and was able to fix the leak right away. As always, he was conscientious and polite as well as speedy and effective.

Jan at Vanguard was able to come fix problem within a few hours of my call; he arrived at the agreed upon time and took 45 minutes to unclog drain, check for any leaks and thoroughly cleaned up after. Also offered advice on how to avoid problem in future and better care for our disposal.

I have used Vanguard Plumbing several times and for different projects. Most recent involved replacing a new water heater and fixing leaking gas line. The service is perfect every time. I consider this company to be very professional and honest. I would recommend then to anyone. I like the fact they don't have any hidden fees and the final price is accurate with the estimate. Also they are very punctual. Overall very good experience.
