I was VERY impressed with Jan. Our ejector pump stopped working late last week; we woke up to find sewage had seeped out of the pump pit. It was pretty gross. We called Jan, as well as 3-4 other plumbers. Unfortunately, with the recent rash of freezing weather, there were a lot of people with burst pipes needing immediate plumbing help. Jan returned our call right away and asked us to send pictures of the pump system. He assured us that he would get to us, but it did take a few days because of the others in the queue. He did communicate with us every day and we weren't in major immediate trouble so it wasn't a big deal. In one of the calls, he quoted a new ejector pump and installation as $695, which was in line with what others had quoted. He arrived even earlier than anticipated on Monday morning with one of his employees. They spent over two hours inspecting the old system, cleaning up the mess, and installing the new pump. In addition, he suggested an upgrade to our current sump pump for the future. Lastly, he recommended a replacement for a check valve (I think thats what its called) for $70, which I agreed to. When he was done, he cleaned up, explained the entire process and how to avoid the problems in the future and then went through the invoice. As promised, the total was the $695 plus the check valve. Jan was EXTREMELY helpful, personable and professional. I would highly recommend him.

I had a pipe that had disconnected (it didn't actually burst) and Jan was quite responsive. With the extreme cold, he said he couldn't get here until the next day, but might possibly make it later today. He asked me to email him pictures of the pipes so that he could see the problem. Jan called me back just over an hour later and said he could stop by shortly - they had just completed a job very close by and could fit me in. He quoted me $375 based on what he saw in the pictures. He and George arrived within their timeframe and immediately got to work. They were professional, honest and done within an hour. When I asked if I needed to have some of the other pipes checked/tightened, he told me that it would cost extra per pipe, due to the need to test/replace etc. But then he also said, I could do it for you, but don't think you really need it. I appreciated the honesty. He showed me where all the main valves were (I, by this time, knew), but also talked about options that I could take to fix the exposed pipes longer term. As George was fixing the pipe, Jan showed me what had gone wrong with the compressor valve and the joint. I appreciated understanding what broke and how things should work. The only thing I wish Jan would've done was to put booties on his shoes. It's one thing when the kitchen floor is a mess, but he tracked the stuff upstairs when he was testing all of the pipes. (George ware booties) That said, I love the emailed estimate, the emailed invoice and the service I received. I'd certainly recommend them and use them again.

I was very impressed with Jan. He came by our house in the evening after his last call thinking it would be a minor repair based on my description. It wound up being a more difficult job. Both he and his co-worker were courteous and knowledgeable. He explained everything that he needed to do. Despite the fact that it was late in the evening, he did not leave until everything was completely repaired including a stubborn leak after the initial repair. They cleaned up everything and left the kitchen as they found it. I would highly recommend him.

I called Jan with an emergency situation. One of our pipes burst due to the cold. He was out to our house within the hour and had the pipe fixed and water turned back on within another hour. He explained the factors that caused the pipe to freeze and left us with some ideas as to how we can prevent freezing in the future. Great service. Thank you, Jan.

Yahn impressed me the most out of all the plumbers I've gotten from Angie's List. He was able to do the work without turning off the water to the building.

It was a wonderful experience. I had recently joined Angie-list the day before. I found it hard to choose by rating,so I read the reviews on the ones I was interested in. I really liked the fact that this seem to be a small company, and I am a supporter of small businesses.I have Jan a call and he immediately set an appointment when he could come out, which was that same day. He also wanted some pictures so he could asset the cost of the job. I agreed to the time and cost, which was very reasonable. He came before our schedule time (which is good), and I tell you that I have never met an easy-going,professional, and likeable person in my life ( I have many years under my belt ) . I had many questions which he answered . He did a marvelously job replacing the pipes . I would certainly give him four(4) thumbs up if I had that many. He was friendly, confident,knowledgeable, and a true professional. For the right plumber in Chicagoland , Jan is the Man...Jan is my plumber from now on, for all my plumbing needs I will be calling him.

The first time he came out, he was great. But when I called him again when my toilet was stopped. He charged me $220 to PLUNGE my toilet. I was in shock.

After years of trying different plumbers, I no longer need to use any other. Vanguard Plumbing and Sewer are the best in the business. Jan runs a tight ship. He and George make a great team. I highly recommend this company.

Vanguard Plumbing is outstanding!! I called them in the late morning when my problem occurred. My garbage disposal was severely leaking water out the bottom seal. They had me send them pictures so they could better understanding the unit I had in and the problem in advance which was helpful. They were incredibly responsive to my email and phone call and communicate timely and accurately on products, options, and arrival times. The offered me a choice on quality of replacement which I appreciated since instead of just installing some standard replacement model, I prefer to have a better quality unit put in. They were at my house by early afternoon and cleanly, efficiently and professionally completed the work. They also recommended some smart changes to how my dishwasher drains out. Upon completion they gave me very helpful instructions and useful tips on using and cleaning my new disposal (that cold water is better than hot when using it and that putting ice cubes in there on occasion will keep the blades sharp) . It's nice to work with a company who has pride in their work and who cares about providing an outstanding job - which they did!

He did a great job and it works perfectly! My installation is up to code now with a valve that shouldn't fail over time. I called Jan (his boss) that morning and George (the plumber that did the work) was at my house by the early afternoon. They were very easy to work with, and even took credit cards over the phone. I would definitely use them again!

Everything went great from the 1st phone call to Jan, through to the completion of work. Jan asked for pictures, which I easily emailed to him, of the plumbing, faucets and drains he'd be working on so he could give me a cost. I liked this because it saved him and me time of having an additional meeting for an estimate before the work. It also indicated to me that he is knows his work & is confident in his skills. And I like getting a fixed price, rather than an hourly rate for proposed work. He promptly got to me the next day after we spoke. On his way to my place, he called to give me a heads up, and arrived on time. He and George put protective coverings on their work boots without me asking and got to work. The shower drain was unclogged in five minutes. So, since he was here, and did a nice job, I asked Jan lots of questions about other plumbing things I'd like to take care of. He patiently and thoroughly answered my many questions, which I know from past experience some contractors do not especially like to take their time to do. Jan is professional, courteous, skilled and priced well. I'll definitely hire Vanguard Plumbing again soon to do more plumbing work.

From first contact, the response was professional and timely. I was given a quote over the phone ($200 less than another provider) based on pictures and description of the problem. I thought it was just a bad garbage disposal. I was given a two hour window for the work to begin and they arrived at the beginning of that time. Jan immediately noticed that the piping for the dishwasher and garbage disposal had been installed improperly and gave me a quote to fix that - if he could. He managed to fix the problem and replace the garbage disposal in a very short period of time. He and his coworker were very informative and professional and left my kitchen cleaner than when they arrived. Jan also gave me great advice on how to clean and care for my garbage disposal. Thanks. I will definitely use them in the future for plumbing issues (especially the ones Jan pointed out might happen because of some other improperly installed water lines).

He did show up - a bit late - but it was the same day. That's better than no response. Jan Pietraszek did come out on 11/18/11 - a little late. He started telling me what he wouldn't do and what he would do and how much extra it would cost. As I recall, I found him unpleasantly aggressive and bullying and chose not to hire him. Hence the refund. I would not consider hiring Vanguard.

Jan is quick to respond, knows his stuff, and teaches me something each time he does a repair.

On a Sunday night I discovered a hole in the main drainage pipe under my kitchen sink. I found Vanguard on Angie's List the next day and called to arrange an appointment. When Jan came to look at the problem, he could see that all of the drainage pipes and the water lines were in rough shape. He suggested I upgrade everything and I agreed. Jan sent a detailed estimate outlining the work to be done. I like the fact Vanguard charges by the job, not by the hour. On the day the work was done, Jan and George arrived on time, worked efficiently, and had the job completed in about four hours. I would not hesitate to hire them again or to recommend them to others looking for high-quality plumbing work.

The work went well. They were very professional and the quality of the work was very good. I would use them again and the guy was very nice and he explained everything that he was doing. The work has held up and the only negative is I thought the work was a little on the high end of the price. I would call them again.

They came out quickly and they were very responsive. He explained what he did and he educated me on the service. I really liked their service. They were very professional and I gave his number to someone needing service that next week. He did clean up after himself. The price was standard to other service providers.

I'll put it this way - if Jan did everything, I'd hire him for everything. Very smart, direct, and an absolute professional. He got a lot of work done in a short amount of time, and the price was more than reasonable. I'll definitely be calling Jan again for a larger project in the Spring.

Jan was great. He knew the information he needed from me an fortunately the leak wasn't as bad as it could be and he was able to come in right on his phone estimate. Jan and George were friendly, professional, and onetime. Even my cats approved of them and their work!

Jan was very professional and helpful as was the other plumber he brought along. They arrived exactly at the appointment time and worked quickly, leaving their work areas clean. Jan explained everything to me. He did not charge for the work he did on the toilet and was even nice enough to replace a difficult to reach lightbulb for me free of charge. I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

We are extremely grateful for the work Jan did fixing our failed ejector pump. The pump failed the evening of June 9, leading to a rather big mess in our utility room. My wife went into labor a few hours later and at 7 am I was on the phone with Jan from the hospital. He came out later that day (my parents let him in), cleaned up the mess, gave me a quote (which was reasonable) and replaced the pump that day. When my wife and I came home from the hospital two days later, it was as if nothing had ever happened. Jan and his team were fantastic, and bailed us out of a challenging situation. We highly recommend Vanguard for jobs large and small.

Vanguard and Jan was awesome. First thing, they ask you to send a photo of the problem (in our case, a leaky faucet), which is very smart because then they are reasonably prepared to fix the issue quickly. (The last company we called, being paid by the hour, spent most of the time screwing around and chatting and I paid hundreds of dollars just to diagnose the problem). When Jan from Vanguard came, they were very polite, looked at the problem and diagnosed the hose being cracked. He called for an estimate to fix the part and one to replace the entire faucet. We chose to fix it, Jan went and bought the part, came right back and installed it. He was cheap, quick, did great work (the new hose works perfectly) and very, very nice. I highly recommend Vanguard.
