We were having intermittent problems with the float switch for our sewer ejector pump. The pump was fine but the switch was occasionally failing to engage. We had a plumber over several months ago to adjust the float, a fix which worked for awhile but over the past several weeks we began having problems again. I called Vanguard to discuss our options. Jan answered immediately and was able to explain possible causes over the phone. He had me email some pictures of the area around the pit as well as some information about the existing pump and switch. He contacted me the next day (Saturday morning - New Years Eve) with some possible solutions. The existing pump was of a lower quality than he uses, but we could choose to have him simply look over the existing install to see if there is an obvious cause, replace the switch only, or replace both the pump and switch. He made no recommendation about the pump itself - was not trying to sell something we didn't need. We chose to have both the pump and switch replaced - I prefer the peace of mind of a high quality pump installed with a parts and labor warranty - along with replacing the rusting metal pit lid with a plastic version. We'd had intermittent sewer gas odor since the other plumber had been over. We schedule for the following Wednesday morning between 8-9am. George arrived right at 8am on Wednesday (after calling ahead) and started work. He answered all of my questions and didn't mind me hovering around getting in his way. He installed the new pump and switch, replaced the check valve, reconnected all the pipes, sealed the pit with the new lid, and left the area around the pit cleaner than it had been before. The new pump is working fine and the sewer odor is completely gone. I'll gladly call Vanguard with any other plumbing related issues I have. First class service!

We called several plumbers early the day after Thanksgiving. We had water all over our floor and didn't know where it was coming from. George evaluated our "leaking" problem. Installed a new garbage disposal. Also, with no charge, he checked why the faucet was leaking and advised that we need a new faucet. Also, he put the grill back on our dishwasher just because it was there. I do want to reiterate that the person who did all this was George and he was GREAT!! Personable, friendly and efficient. We now have the new faucet and have called to schedule another appointment.

That was fine. The work was done well. They were responsive and punctual. They responded promptly.

They were awesome. Very responsive. The owner always answers his phone which is nice because most people don't. Parts had to be ordered and they got back to quickly! I will use them again if needed.

They are professional and very polite. I was charged exactly what I was quoted over the phone and George reminded me about the coupon on Angie's list.

I looked for a plumber/sewer service close to my address and found Vanguard Plumbing and sewer. I called , explained my ,dilemma and he said he could have a technician there in a hour or so. George the technician called and said he was 20 min. away. He replaced the failed ejection pump. Then he checked the sump pump and backup power supply. When he finished, his manager called me and discussed what the technician had found and recommended what we could do to improve our system. I cannot say what a great relief it was to have someone that responded so quickly when they were called.

This is an update. I posted an unfavorable review indicating that this provider simply blew us off and never followed up on the request for service. All of that is still accurate. But this update is to let readers know that the owner (after reading my review) called me. He was extremely apologetic and said it was not how he does business. He was not sure how he dropped the ball. In my experience with providers, those that care about reviews and take the time to apologize for falling short, are generally good providers. Ultimately we had the work done by another plumber, so I cannot comment on the work quality. But based on the follow up and contrition, I would not rule out trying this provider in the future.

Very well. They gave an estimate by email based on details and photos I supplied them with, and honored this estimate. The team was prompt, professional and polite, and cleaned up the work area after they were finished. I would definitely use them again.

I called Vanguard Plumbing to tell him of my issue. He asked a few questions and was upfront by saying he had a number of appointments already scheduled that day and would call me if he was able to fit us in. He also informed me it would be a $175 charge to come out and then he would explain the work needed and cost. I told him I understood if he couldn't make it out that day, and my schedule moving forward was flexible. It's been almost 3 weeks since I had my initial call with the company and still no call back about when they can come out and look at our toilet. Needless to say, I've moved on and will never call them again or recommend them. It's unfortunate because I selected them because of the reviews received.

We described our leak to Vanguard and sent pictures of the faucets and pipes at issue, and they were able to give us a quote and recommendations how to fix it for the long term at once. They came the next day and followed through without jacking up the price. For those of you who live in Chicago, you know that is a rarity; you don't have to get the "oil change" treatment in your own home. Their technician also was willing to take a look at some other faucets and shower heads in our home that had some problems, and gave us sound advice free of charge that ended up saving us money. We highly recommend them.

The owner is very professional. The team was very organized and the work was done well. They are a bit higher but the quality is good. I would use them again.

I called Van Guard about 11 am concerning a bathtub drain that was draining. Van Guard had a man in the field who was redirected to our house. Less than 3 hours after calling the problem was solved. George (the plumber) was efficient, communicative, fast, professional, pleasant and made the whole experience painless. He was very clear about costs both labor and parts and there were no surprises. He even mentioned that because we were AL members we got $20.00 off before I had a chance to bring it up. We have multiple units and when/if another plumbing issues occurs - Van Guard will be the number I call.

When I arrived at my son's home in Chicago, I noticed that the sink in the kitchen was leaking water. Luckily I have Angie's List and was able to find Vanguard Plumbing. Within a few hours, George arrived and did an excellent and professional job repairing the plumbing. I would highly recommend this company . Ask for George. You won't be sorry

Vanguard plumbing was extraordinary today. I was cleaning out under my kitchen sink and discovered that my in-sinkerator was corroded and leaking all over everything. I called Vanguard plumbing - Jan, who answered the phone, asked for photos of the problem, and was able to give me several quotes for different levels of replacements, and within 2 hours, George had arrived and was replacing the disposal. He called in advance to let me know that he was on his way, was punctual and beyond professional. He had the unit swapped out in 1 hour. He took away the old unit and left the kitchen spotless. I cannot say how much I appreciated the service from Vanguard today. We will definitely use them in the future. I cannot recommend them enough.

Excellent service - I would use Vanguard again for any plumbing needs. I noticed water coming from underneath the toilet in our guest bathroom. I called Vanguard just after 8 am on a Friday morning and George arrived within 2 hours. I was provided with an estimate over the phone, based on the details I provided. Once George arrived and removed the toilet it was discovered that the remodeling company we used to redo our bathroom had installed the toilet incorrectly. The existing toilet collar was too low and was creating a small pool of water around the wax ring. George reviewed the situation with me in great detail and explained the proper way to fix/install the toilet. Needless to say, the cost was significantly more than originally estimated given that this wasn't just a small leak, but it was provided to me up front and I agreed (and believe it to be a fair price given the clean up and fixes that needed to be done). The repair and reinstallation of the toilet were completed within a few hours and after George left, you would never know anyone had been working in the bathroom - it was spotless. While ultimately this was a major repair and took more time/cost more than anticipated, I appreciate the honesty and having the job done correctly.

I went through quite a few possible plumbers and read their reviews. I was impressed by the reviews for Vanguard Plumbing and Sewers. What came across was professionalism and concern for customers. When I called, I talked to Jon, the boss. He is a good listener and he asked excellent questions. He sent George, who was friendly and knowledgeable. He got the job done quickly and provided explanations. I was delighted with the final cost, primarily due to George's efficiency and honesty. I highly recommend Vanguard Plumbing and Sewers, especially of you fear that someone will come in and make up problems that do not exist in order to inflate the bill.

This firm came out the same morning I called for service. George quickly identified the likely source of the leak and removed a portion of drywall to access the damaged pipe. After draining the water in the line he cut out the damaged pipe and replaced it. He tested it to make sure the leak was fixed and helped me turn my hot water heater back on. He cleaned up his work area prior to leaving. The price was reasonable.

Vanguard was great!! George made repairs to 2 toilets and basically replaced all of the inside parts. Showed up for the job early and finished within the hour. The toilets work great and George took the time to explain and show the work that was done. I will definately use Vanguard in the future.

I was very impressed the plumber called be back and he was able to give me advise over the phone. I dont need to make repairs yet, but when I do I will for sure use this company
