On Thursday December 12th I had a leak under my sink. Over the phone Jan was able to troubleshoot the issue and diagnosed it as my garbage disposal was worn out and leaking water. Jan was able to come out the next day and install a new Insinkerator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal and that solved my issue. I’m a repeat Vanguard customer and will continue to use Jan for any repairs or installations as long as I live in Chicago. I ordered a new oven from a major home retail chain and the people they sent were incompetent and were unable to install the oven. After not having an oven for two weeks and a 9 month old baby I needed to get this installed ASAP. I called Jan and he came over the same day. He installed the oven with no issue and ensured it was working correctly. He also had a contact who came over shortly after to remove the old oven. Jan is a true professional, very knowledgeable, hard worker, and is always reliable. I’m truly grateful to have him work on our house in the past and be able to provide quick repairs / installations such as our oven.

Vangaurd has been my plumber in Chicago for many years. He has fixed a number of things including leaky toilet, low water pressure, slow drain, and kitchen sink water valve. He communicates well with what problems he finds and recommends solutions that go above and beyond to solve other hidden problems that prevent larger plumbing issues in the future. For this particular job he replaced a corroding shower cartridge, flushed out water system to increase water pressure, cleaned out a slow tub drain, and replaced shower head.

The serviceman, George, and his apprentice, Chris, arrived on time and were very professional. They had to open the basement ceiling to get at the issue and were able to evaluate and re-route the piping to make the tub drain perfectly. And, the toilet leaky parts were replaced as well. I am very happy with the result and would definitely recommend them to anyone with easy or more difficult plumbing needs!

Vanguard came to our rescue when various other repair and installation workers were unable to complete the job of repairing or installing a new dishwasher: We had one repairman delay until we had electridal work done, then he never showed up again. Another repairman found the old dishwasher could not be repaired. When we ordered a new dishwasher from Home Depot, the installers refused to do the work, fearing the water shutoff valves might break. Finally, Vanguard took over the job, replaced the valves so they won't freeze again and installed the dishwasher.

Simply put, Jan from Vanguard Plumbing And Sewer Inc is the type of plumber you want to take care of your home. I had a problem with my sump pump. I have only owned condos before, so I was totally unfamiliar with this type of device and its weak points. Jan inspected the existing system (and more plumbing-related things inside the home) and explained to me very clearly what was wrong and how he will fix it. He was extremely patient and kind in answering all my questions and also helped me finding somebody I needed for some landscaping work, going the extra mile. He is extremely professional, I have always found him on the phone, and he arrived on time. He is obviously a top-notch plumber who takes pride in doing his job right the first time and with no shortcuts that put you at risk of plumbing disasters. Juri picked up the call and after sending a picture of the scope of work a written estimate was provided and his team showed up on time and complete the request at the agreed upon rate. I would use this firm again.

Very well professional work manship

We had an issue with our toilet and called Vanguard based on its AL reviews. We were very happy that they could provide service the same day. We also appreciated that Jon was able to provide a preliminary quote for services so that we knew what to expect and could make an educated decision about whether to proceed. Two plumbers -- George and Dave -- arrived within a few hours and got to work. They were efficient, polite, and professional. They ran several tests to determine what the source of the problem might be, offered and assessment, and gave us a few options for how to proceed. What I really appreciated, though, was that they were willing to make specific recommendations when asked. I felt like we got good information and good advice. At one point during the work, they got Jon on the phone to update him on the situation, and Jon also took his time to talk through our options for how to proceed. Ultimately, they replaced the toilet, and in the process brought the contact point where the toilet meets the floor up to code. Only time can tell if all issues were fixed, but when they left we were happy with the service provided and the overall experience. Thank you, Vanguard!

Jan was very to provide me with a quote on the phone as well as to explain the process. The emailed quote was very detailed. Although we did not move forward with Jan for this project, I would not hesitate to use Vanguard in the future.

Vanguard did an excellent job. They were punctual, efficient, explained how to ignite the pilot in case I would need to do so, answered other questions I had about the components on the heater and did a nice cleanup at the end. The new water heater appears to be of much higher quality than the old one. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Of course, I hired him for his plumbing skill, pricing and integrity. All are top notch. His prices are vey reasonable. He is very honest. He never tries to sell or upcharge – to the contrary, he cautions against unnecessary and expensive additional work that he could do. I have used him for several projects in my condo, including replacing faucets, replacing toilets, putting in shower heads, and fixing leaky faucets. The work he has done for me on jos several visits has uniformly been of high quality with no problems. He is very diligent as well. He stays with the project and works very hard. He did not charge me for the extra time that was required when the work ran into an unexpected snag caused by unforeseeable piping problems in my building. He also has had very good assistants with him. He cleans up everywhere he works and double-checks the work before he leaves to make sure that everything is working properly. He follows up with a written confirmation of payment. In short, I couldn’t be more pleased with Jan and Vanguard. I highly recommend him.

I spoke with a gentleman who was very polite and very professional in his over-the-phone presentation. After I gave my pitch about our home's electrical fire situation and that our case is being handled through an insurance claim and us requesting for assistance on an estimate, this gentleman quoted an astronomical price for "each" hour he's there to assess our environment - the quote was $250 per hour. I'm not very knowledgeable about the trades industry, so this might be somewhat normal in the plumbing business, but it seems way too high to be normal even for any trade. I feel like he quoted the high price just to walk into the house as though to cover his troubles in case he did not get the project (being that the insurance is paying for this). I'm confused. Maybe some people are doing so well in their business that they don't need to make additional cash. I wish him the best.

Excellent service. Remove old water and install new 75-gallon Bradford White. The six-year-old 50-gallon water heater was having problems and decided the best course of action was replacement. A year ago, Vanguard installed an ejector pump for me and I was very impressed, so I called Jan for a new water heater. We discussed my concerns about the old water heater not having a safety pan or drain, as well as going from 50 gal. to 75 gal. George and Tom disconnected and removed the old water heater. They installed a pan and drain pipe and fired up the new water heater. They were very professional and did a terrific job. I highly recommend Vanguard.

I called and asked several basic questions and was greeted with extremely rude responses. I would be careful of doing business with these people.
