They were very responsive and professional over the phone. Their price was very reasonable as well. If ever we move again, we would certainly call them.

The workers are the real stars here; my impression of the Owner is that he is unorganized and unprofessional. I am a business owner who hired Under One Roof to move house furnishings from a furnished rental dwelling to a storage facility. On my first call with Owner (Friday- 7/27) we set a date for Thursday-August 2 at 2pm. Before ending our call, he requested that I call him back the next day to remind him of our appointment so that he could add it to the schedule. While not a typical request, I agreed to call him back the next day. I called early evening (Saturday) and when he answered, I explained that I was the caller he had spoken with yesterday and that per his request I was calling to remind him of next week?s appointment. Even after the intro, he responded like he was confused about why I would be calling. I again repeated that HE asked me to call HIM as a reminder. He seemed to check his schedule and then replied by confirming the time for 1 hour earlier than the original appointment. This was not a problem for me, so our date and time was confirmed for Thursday-August 2 at 1pm. On the morning of the move, the Owner left me a voicemail requesting that I give him a call if it was okay for his guys to arrive earlier than our scheduled time. As I had a busy morning, I did not access the message until close to our scheduled 1pm timeslot, but as soon as I intercepted the message I returned the call to let the Owner know that I received his message late, but that I was on location and still on track to meet with the movers for our 1pm move. The Owner seemed agitated, saying that I shouldn?t call him on that number (the same number he called me on). He then said his guys should have called me anyway. I was taken aback by what I felt was another bizarre reaction by the Owner. I told him that I was returning his call as a courtesy and that, no, I had not heard from his guys. He kept inferring that things were busy and that they would just get to me. Now ? perhaps the Owner was having a bad week. I have had bad days too, but I don?t pick fights with my customers for no reason, under any circumstances. The movers were great, but the Owner ? unprofessional - and behavior bizarre.

WOW! These guys are great! Roberto, Dossy, and Joe from Under One Roof showed up on time. They worked non-stop. I had to tell them to slow down as we would get to the move-in place too early as I had a reserved elevator space during a specific block of time. I had the equivalent amount of stuff for a studio. My total move was done in two hours. Would definitely use Under One Roof in the future.

A difficult move -- heavy machinery, tight spaces, etc. The four men on the job were excellent -- strong, experienced, friendly, professional, and careful. No walls or floors were marred, and no machinery damaged. They did a careful job of padding and tying down in the truck. I intend to have Under One Roof move the "regular" furniture in our household and in storage to the new location.

I scheduled the estimate over a week before. When the day came, the estimator never showed up. After an hour and a half, I called, and he sounded surprised at first, and then recollected that we had had an appointment, then told me a story about a truck breaking down, etc etc. I don't doubt that he may have been dealing with issues, but to miss the appointment, and then make a number of excuses - too much information! So, despite my better judgment, I rescheduled for a day later. That next day, he was an hour and a half late! I did call and leave a couple of messages, which I did not get in time because my phone was charging, but still... When he finally showed up at my door, I was on my way out to a meeting. Needless to say, I will not be rescheduling for an estimate. We went with a different mover.

We used Under One Roof for the second time in March of 2012. The first time we used them, we referred to them by a friend in 2006 and the first move when fairly well. Unfortunately, the move in March of 2012 was quite the opposite. The issues that we had recently were that the company lost a very expensive and sentimental antique and the move took much longer than we were originally quoted. My grandmother and my sons? great-grandmother gave the antique that was lost to me. The piece was valued at between $1000-$3000. We knew that it was missing the morning after the move because we literally moved from one house to another about 1 mile between the two. We called the owner the morning after our move at 8 AM to inform him of the loss. We were told to look again because he was sure that it was at our new home. It was not. When we contacted Under One Roof for the second move, we had the owner come over and go through the home from where we were moving to see exactly what items would be moved. We wanted to make sure that he was going to be able to give us a realistic quote. He quoted 10 hours with 4 guys and 2 trips. The day of the move, 3 guys showed up and the entire day they kept asking, "Does this go?" while pointing to objects. I kept telling them that EVERYTHING goes. Everything in every room and all of the items in the garage. Later in the day, the foreman told me that he was not told that the garage needed to move. I was perplexed because Tony the owner came and did the quote. The move ended up taking about 4 more hours than what were quoted and 4 trips. At the end of a very long and stressful day, we were asked to pay a big difference. I explained that we were not happy about that because we were supposed to have 4 guys and the team seemed very disorganized throughout the day. We had plainly labeled all of the boxes with the names of the rooms in which they should be placed. They just put boxes in miscellaneous rooms. After much discussion, the owner's wife (who is apparently the person who wears the pants in the business) agreed to lower the price on the overall move. I never was able to speak to her though; all of the negotiation was done through the foreman. When we realized that the sentimental antique was lost, it took several phone calls to convince them that it truly was missing. My assumption was that when the guys were loading the items into the truck late into the evening, it was set aside and someone came and picked it up when nobody was watching the truck. I told Tony this and he just said, ?You don?t know.? I have been trying to work with Tony since the item went missing. He essentially told me that I signed an agreement that states that they will only pay be $0.30 per pound. He informed me that I should have purchased additional insurance. Well, I was never offered additional insurance when I was given the original quote or on the day of the move. Also, I did not sign any contracts only the statement with the final amount at about 11 PM the night the move ended. I should also mention that after the move was finished, I went back to our home and found that a HUGE piece of art was left along with the large ivory box with my wedding dress. Both items were so big, there is no reason the guys should have missed them. I am really glad that I went back over to our old home. In dealing with Tony, it seems that his wife is really the person who is making all of the decisions but she has been avoiding me. I was also told that they had filed a claim with their insurance company but nobody has contacted me from the insurance company in the past 3 1/2 months since the item was lost. Lastly, the most disconcerting thing is that Tony has been extremely rude throughout the entire process. He keeps referring to the fact that he lowered the overall bill the evening of our move and he is clearly unhappy that we asked him to do that. He keeps connecting the bill with the lost item. He has offered to replace the antique with one that is between $250-$300. The only fair resolution that I see is that he pay us $1,000 (which is on the lower end of the comparables) so that we can at least put that money in our boys' college fund since I can no longer give any of them the piece of furniture from their great-grandmother. Unfortunately, Tony and his wife Michelle are not willing to do the right thing by us and I would like to make sure that nobody else has to deal with these unprofessional people.
Description of Work: We used Under One Roof in March of 2006 to move us from one home to another. We used them again in March of 2012 for the same purpose. Both moves were under 2 miles from point A to point B. In 2006, we moved from a 2 BR 2-flat to a 4 BR single family home. In 2012, we moved from a 4 BR single family home in Albany Park to a 4 BR single family home in Old Irving.

Response from Under One Roof Inc
We do our best to provide accurate estimates. I highly recommend being present at an in house estimate so all aspects of the move can be properly discussed. For all Illinois intrastate movers an estimate is a general idea of what the costs will be under normal conditions for the service requested. An estimate is not binding - the final charges are based on the service actually performed. The estimate provided was for a five man crew with one truck making multiple trips. Using multiple trucks at an additional hourly charge would have been more expensive since the locations were so close. We spoke to her husband the day before and were informed that they had decided not to move a gazebo. We mutually decided that four men would be more efficient because of this change. The rate for four men is less expensive per hour than five men however less manpower does take longer. This change was apparently not communicated to her. At her request we did send a fifth man out who was present for less than half of the move. Unfortunately it was raining during the move which logistically slowed things down. In the end the move took 1 ½ hours more than the estimate even with less manpower used than the original estimate. The final charges were only $52 over the original estimate. Before a move begins the crew leader does a walk through to review the items being moved and determine the best method for packing the truck. Between the estimate and actual move many of our customers decide to move some items on their own and sometimes add items that they had intended to move on their own but didn’t. During this walk through the garage was not pointed out to him. Because of this confusion we did take an hour of time off of the bill of lading. We apologize for the loss of this item. We have never had a missing item before but accidents do happen and we always work with customers to reasonably resolve them. Per Illinois law there are two options available on the bill of lading for liability of goods: $.30 per pound per article in the event of loss or damage (this is included in our rate) or declared value. Declared value is available for an additional cost and provides repair or replacement according to the item’s depreciated value. We also have full replacement transit insurance available to purchase through Baker International http://www.bakerintl.com/index.aspx . The customer signed for and chose $.30 per pound per article on this bill of lading. That amounts to approximately $12 for this table. We immediately went above and beyond what we are required to do and offered to replace the table with a similar item. We received no information on the actual table other than a picture from across the room which does not show the detail on the top of the table. A description was provided based on other tables found online. With the limited information provided on the actual table my research shows I could purchase a similar table from a local auction house for $50 - $250. After I emailed our formal claim form she decided to refuse to accept anything but $1000 cash reimbursement. I am the owner of Under One Roof, Inc. and am always available to answer any questions or concerns. Any customer can reach me directly on my cell phone at 773-848-7766. Michelle Mathena

It went great. I reached them only a few days before the move and they were able to work us into their schedule. They took care of everything, and made a very stressful day much less so. it was raining, we got lost going to the roommates apartment, they kept their sense of humor and helped me keep my sanity. Oh and they are excellent movers, they know what they are doing.

Under One Roof Moving Services was the best moving experience I've ever had and believe me I recognize and greatly appreciate the great service. I didn't experience the usual stress that is involved with moving; these guys know what excellent customer service is...other moving companies should model after Under One Roof. I have told friends about Under One Roof and the great move I had and I will definitely call on them again!!
Description of Work: I decided on this company because of the reviews Under One Roof received on Angie's List. They were spot on. Rob and Mike were the movers; they called when they were close to where I was moving from to get specific directions into the gated community and were still on time. The guys were friendly, very helpful and professional. I told them that I was storing my furniture in a friend's home basement at 80th & Sangamon and they were cool with that. They told me that it would be easier to get down to a basement than getting furniture down a elevator building. (I lived on the 8th floor) I had the maintenance engineers dedicate the elevator for the move. They started at about 9:45am and was pulling out the parking lot at 11:15am and arrived at the destination at 11:40 am and was finished at about 12:30pm. So they were right!! They placed the painter's tarp on the floor and like I said they moved the furniture with WHITE GLOVE treatment. Mike had to dismantle my dinette table because it had an unusally large shape (rounded triangular table with a removable glass lazy susan center) He carefully wrapped the screws and hardware tightly and taped it securely to one of the legs of the table and padded the glass centerpiece. Furniture padded and protected no bumps or nicks - perfect. I was amazed by their efficiency and they even placed my boxes and plastic totes in position that would be easy for me to access later. The guys were the absolute best!! Thanks Tony and Michelle at Under One Roof at 2942 North Western Ave. AND of course Rob and Mike ... TOP SHELF GUYS!

Tony did call me after receiving the email and explained that the driver had an emergency with his baby and that is why they left things undone. He said furniture put together like IKEA has a tendency to break. So the end result is that I bought a new TV stand and I still can't get the lift chair to work. Haven't even started with the stereo roller! Tony did apologize but I wouldn't use them again.
Description of Work: Here is a copy of the email I sent to Tony: Hi TonyI wanted to send you an email before I do the review on Angie's List. The guys were great-very fast and efficient. I tipped them well and they were on their way back to the city in the minimum amount of time but unfortunately there were some things that came up after they left. Sometimes you can go too fast. The TV table was broke. The mover suggested I get epoxy glue to hold it steadier since I did tell him I put it together myself. Unfortunately he knew it was broke not unsteady and I am most upset that he didn't tell me but just put the TV back on the stand knowing it might not hold it.When I went upstairs they had left my granddaughters mattress wrapped in cellophane outside the bedroom. So you had a 62 year old gram and a 16 year old wrestling off cellophane and getting the mattress on the bed.The stereo got put where I asked but not put back together and a roller is missing on the bottom. Also the shelf was left off the bookcase because when he put in the peg holders he had one 2 holes up and the other 3 holes up. It wasn't hard to figure out!I did ask them to plug the lift chair back in and he seemed to have a hard time but said he had it done and left. Guess what the chair doesn't work. My granddaughter said he tried the control and when it didn't work just left anyway. I will have to figure out the plugs myself. I have had it moved twice previously and they always knew where they had taken the plugs out and put them back in.The lamp shade is broke and I will have to buy new bulbs. Most of this is small stuff except for the TV stand and wrestling the mattress. My lesson is I didn't do a walk through before they left. I would have gladly paid for extra time to have a better result at the end of the move. They were in quite a hurry to get out. I don't know If Jose, the driver, knew about the above issues but I don't think he did. The movers were great at the beginning and I am especially disappointed because they were good and I don't understand the carelessness at the end. I am not happy about buying a new TV stand etc but it really is about the lack of honesty. I used you because of your rating on Angie's list and I didn't want to use a cheaper company with the hung over guys but I have to admit they never broke anything.

I underestimated the amount of stuff that we had. Told Tony that I wanted four people and one truck for 5-6 hours. We ended up making two trips - first trip from old house to new house; second trip from storage unit, plus more from old house, emptying at new house. Took just under 8 hours. Team moved very quickly and worked hard, no issues with level of effort or sense of urgency. We did all of our own packing, so no comments on that. They did a great job wrapping and handling furniture, and the pricing was straightforward (cost per hour) without variables for "number of tape rolls used" that I heard from other movers. Was happy with the move, underestimation was my fault, would use them again.
Description of Work: Moved from 3 bedroom house (1800 sq ft) to a 3 bedroom house (2200 sq ft) one mile away. Also emptied a 10x10 storage unit and moved the contents to the new house.

These movers our outstanding. They did an excellent job. We had 4 men with a 24-foot truck. The moved us from a 3rd story walk-up into a house in about 8 hours. The movers were friendly, professional, and very good at what they do. My wife and I were both impressed. Although their hourly rate was the highest of any of the companies that I contacted (I got quotes from 3), they do not charge for supplies. I thought they might skimp on supplies because of that, but they did not. Everything was wrapped in plastic and/or in blankets, and they didn't hesitate to use their wrapping supplies. Even though they had the highest hourly, they came in cheaper than any of other companies because we didn't have to pay for those supplies. I highly recommend this company.

Tony was responsive, though he sounds very busy. The two man crew he sent were 20 minutes, but he notified me a ahead of time and give in was morning rush hour in Chicago, that was more than acceptable. It only got better from there. I've moved many time and this was the best moving crew I've ever worked with. They were not only well trained and customer responsive but their attitude was one of getting the job done. As the lead on the crew said "there are no coffee breaks in moving." This was a superior experience.
Description of Work: Moved a large bulky bedroom set. Wrapped all in blankets, plastic wrap and moved with the appropriate tool. (ie dollies and hand carts. Secured items on truck better than national moving companies.

The move went extremely well. I spoke to Tony several times before the actual move date to make sure we had enough man power to do a challenging move from a 4th floor walkup to a 3 story townhouse. We decided on 5 movers to make the stairs more bearable, and Tony checked back the day before the move to get a final box count and determine how many wardrobe boxes we would need. The guys arrived promptly and were super professional and nice. They padded and / or wrapped everything and were very careful not to ding any of the newly painted walls in the building common areas. The entire move was completed in 4 hours, including a couple moves of items from room to room when we changed our minds after we got it in the new place. These guys were so good they turned a day I was dreading into a pleasurable experience. I would definitely use them again and recommend to anyone who asked. It was well worth every penny!

It went very well.. we had all items packed and ready - the three men showed up at 2pm - looked over my stuff- I signed a paper that said I understood what they charged ($114/hour for three guys - with 1 hour transit fee) - then they got right to work - shrink wrapped and blanketed some of my furniture and took everything to the POD - using every extra space so things would fit. The whole move took about 2.25 hours - and I gave them a pretty large tip (I had thought it would take MUCH longer). This company had no hidden fees like a staircase fee or elevator fee. Unless my items were packed so tightly they got damaged (I won't know for a few months) - I cannot say ONE bad thing about the movers or this company! I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I rented a POD - needed it loaded from my 3rd floor suburban apartment. The three movers showed up on time, were courteous, and very fast! They managed to fit my entire 1BR apartment into the POD with room to spare. Since this POD will go into storage for a couple months and then be shipped cross country - I cannot speak about the status of the items packed inside... YET. But I will come back on and review how well my stuff traveled. I have NO complaints about this company.

Although I was calling two weeks before my schedule move, I had difficulty finding a mover for the end of the month. I checked Angie's list and called "Under One Roof." Tony was fantastic and very cooperative. Advised me as to where I might find supplies at a reduced cost. His 3 movers showed up on time and worked constantly for 8-1/2 hours. The price was fair and the movers were fantastic and never complained about how much stuff we had. I would definitely use them again!

Very well. Two employees, Jose and Roberto, came at the proper time, and did an excellent job. They were polite, careful and efficient. They accomodated themselves to the slightly different procedure required at the Forest Park address, where I had to go in before them and secure the safety of two dogs, before they could enter with the furniture. All furniture was delived without damage.

The team of Roberto, Steve and Dustin were fantastic! They arrived promptly at 10:00, were careful of the magnolia that hangs over the driveway and got to work quickly. It took them almost 2 hours to carry 150 boxes up the stairs of my basement to the truck. They worked as a well oiled machine. Steve and Dustin carried the boxes to a staging area in my garage and Roberto carefully loaded them on to the truck. They were all very respectful with my Husband's boxes as they are a lifetime collection. After the truck was loaded, I headed to Public Storage with them close behind. The unloading of the truck went like clockwork and they carefully stacked the boxes in neat piles that were not too tall. Roberto, Steve and Dustin were professional, friendly and helpful. I would definitely use this service again.

Eric, Mike, and Seth were my movers. They were very professional and courteous, and despite having to go up and down 3 flights of stairs on an 85 degree day they worked their butts off. I saw them strapped with multiple boxes on their back (quite a few book boxes), working continuously throughout the 5 hours it took to move. The original estimate was for 2-3 hours, but I'm guessing I underestimated the amount of stuff I had. The bulk of the time was spent at my apartment, the time spent unloading the truck at the storage space was only an hour.
Description of Work: Move approx 80+ boxes, usual amount of furniture for a 1 bedroom apartment, plus numerous plastic storage bins from a 3rd floor walk-up in Riverside to a ground floor storage unit in Lyons.

They were on time and finished within two hours. They were very efficient. I had 24 hour notice and they were able to accommodate that. It was also very hot and they rose to the occasion.
Description of Work: They moved me from one home to another.

They arrived early on Wednesday, got everything loaded, checked all closets etc making sure we didn't leave anything behind, disassembled furniture, arrived at the new place and unloaded and reassembled everything. They finished quicker than expected :)
Description of Work: We used this company AGAIN to move us from a 2 bedroom, to another 2 bedroom. The guys were hardworking, quick, and professional. We will definitely use them again when we move to a house in the next few months.

The appointment was for 11:00 a.m. The movers, Eric and Mike, came right on time. Both men were courteous and pleasant. They got right to work. Wrapped certain pieces of furniture that needed to be wrapped for protection. They seemed to have barely any trouble maneuvering the furniture out the doors. They did not even have to take apart a table; they managed to get it through the door. They finished in under an hour. They did a great job. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Moving approximately 11 pieces of furniture from one house to the other.

I highly recommend using these movers, I am completely satisfied. The guys were very prompt, exactly when they were scheduled to arrive. They were friendly, very professional and careful padding and moving my belongings. Wasn't a great deal of items as I only needed them to move large items I couldn't handle on my own, however my large items took up quite a bit of their truck. They took care in placing items, which was a concern due to brand new hardwood floors.
Description of Work: Moved large items from one house to another. Padding of furniture was done well before physically moving items. Some of the items (like armoir) were extremely heavy and bulky to move.
