Description of Work: Horrible. Gave me an estimate for emergency service. Said I would be their first job the next morning. Never showed up, stopped answering their phone, and didn’t respond to my emails, I now have a house full of water damage. I had 3 other estimates, I could have easily gotten another company to come out if they would have told me from the start that they weren’t going to do the job. Total scam artists

I wasn't that pleased with them.
Description of Work: Reid Roofing did a coating. And the original man that came out to do the job he fell or something and he didn't finish he was real nice and stuff. They other people were nice too but what happened was I still haven't figured out what's happening with that because they told me all I need was the tuck pointing around the roofing edges and stuff, then they talked me into doing a silver coating which I ended up spending about 5000, $6000 anyway one of the en went up there on the roof and said the roof wasn't any good or something. I guess he saw a lot of bumps and stuff on it and then they sent a supervisor out. And so I still didn't get a definite thing about what's happening with that cause they said they put the coating on I bet the did it just to get the extra money right whatever but anyway they did it and that was I guess $2000 for that and then about $1200 for some tuck point they did around and the original man that fell or hurt himself, he said all I needed was get some tuck point done and that would be about $2500 and that would work fine you know but then he didn't come back cause he was ill. And I still didn't get the definite thing about what's happening but I didn't go any further because his boss came out here and said well you know it looks good. So I had to to just count on what they said and believed what they said because that was what his man said you need a new roof up there.

Description of Work: Reid Roofing replaced our roof without a tear-off, as we requested. They did good work and once they started, they worked steadily. Scheduling the work was difficult however--they were not always responsive to calls and lost our information once--and after the work was done, we received multiple bills although we had paid immediately.

I decided to use Reid's services after getting two other bids that were as much as 20% higher. I conferred with them about the type and color of shingle that would be used. No date for installation was set. On the day before Thanksgiving I got an early call, informing me that they had had a cancelation and asked if they could do my roof that day. They arrived in force with 8 laborers. The foreman was outstanding, and gave a real lesson in what it means to be a manager. They completed the work, except for installation of the chimney capstone by 3:30 PM. They returned on Friday to finished the capstone and some other minor details with respect to the gutter. I am very happy with their work.
Description of Work: Removed and carted away the old roof and gutter on my garage. Installed new roof and gutter. Replaced cap stone on top of chimney.

They were excellent. Alistair was the person's name and he did exactly what he said he would do to the T. I was very wary of roofers and I had wild bids that varied all over the place. He gave me a very reasonable bid and he did the work that needed to be done. I was extremely impressed. The workers were great. They cleaned up well. There was one thing that I was concerned about. They said they would come back and power wash after the project was over. I had already paid him and I thought they were never going to come back. They came back and power washed our flat roof. They were outstanding and it was such a relief. He charged us for a completely flat roof. They stripped it all off, redid the whole roof, and did some brick work. We didn't need to do anything with the gutters. He said we could use the gutters and we wouldn't need to replace them. We have solid iron gutters. He told us that they were very high quality from years ago and they were still in good shape. That was one example and there were multiple examples like that where he did the work that needed to be done, but didn't grouch. He did a fantastic job.

We haven't used their services yet but they have been outstanding in terms of availability and getting us an estimate back after coming out to look at the place. They even came back and gave us a second estimate after additional portion was added. They have been great so far and I assume if we hire them they will continue to be great. They have been very responsive and have been able to work around our working hours because my husband and I both work so that has been really, really helpful. They were actually on Angie's List and that is why we called them.

While it took them a while to get back to me to do the work after giving me the quote, It didn't bother me that much since I'm guessing this was a small job for them. They eventually did replace roof membrane and drain but didn't install the drain cover as was written in the contract. Almost 2 months later and after several phone calls and emails they eventually installed the drain cover but it was a cheap and flimsy cover that will easily blow off after this winter's first heavy snowfall. I asked them to replace it with a more secure drain dome and they agreed but they never did the work. After this experience I would never consider them for a larger roofing job.

This was for a drain cap that the member did not want to pay for but he wanted the best and most expensive cap available. He didn't however have anything to say about my excellent roof that I put on there that he did not pay for til 3 months after the job was completed.

We kept having leaks and the roof was too low for a shingle roof. He recommended a rubber roof. People said that the rubber roof was good. So far it has not leaked but it has not rained much either. I have to wait for a heavy downpour. He came when he said he would come and finished the job when he said he would finish it. He charged what he said he would charge. He gave an estimate on the spot. So far everything is fine but the real test would be during a torrential downpour or when it starts to snow.

Reid Roofing scheduled the work for 6/3/2009. All work was done that day. The workmen were very courteous and worked efficiently. They cleaned up after the job was done. We couldn't see anything that showed that a roofing crew had been there. We are very pleased and would use them again. We reccommend them to others who need roofing services.
Description of Work: Reid Roofing arranged for all permits required by the Town of Cicero and secured the same for us. They cleaned up the existing roofing material to prepare it for the recoating. They recovered our roof (flat roofed bungalow) with a "rubber" bitumineous layer, sealed it to the roof, sides and into the gutter. They cleaned up after themselves and left our property in immaculate condition.

They are a bait and switch operation. Make sure they spell everything out. On the phone and in person great. A bunch of "Oh yeah its included". If you have the presence of mind to make them put it in writing their price will go up. Andy was our estimator, a real nice guy until we asked for references. They finally gave us 3 houses they did. They were the worst looking roofs I have ever seen. Be careful, they do poor work and plan on getting you during your project. Our price started at $7,500 and then $11,500 finally stopped talking to them when it went to $17,500. They always said everything was included until we asked them to write it in the contract.

IN REPLY TO PROVIDER RESPONSE: I did have another roofer replace my roof and they and many others quoted it properly the first time. Reid's response is ridiculous. I did not continue to ask for more items. Instead, I just said you tell me what to do. During the process and in talking to other roofers, I realized Reid (who I initially intended on using) was not being forth right. We have a cedar roof with 4 layers of asphalt. It would not have been code to do what they initially purposed. I tried to work with them and they told me "no problem" it would all be included in the price; however when I asked them to write it out they became difficult and acted insulted. I then went to go get references from them which all were unhappy with them and their roofs looked very bad for having just been replaced. The reply comments by the company are NOT anywhere near reality. I think Angie's lists customers should be very careful in dealing with this company for large scale jobs. Also, the reference "she" in their response, they only dealt with me and I am a man. My wife never spoke to them in anyway. I think they are trying to imply the "little woman" didn't know what she was doing. We have had many large scale projects done on our historic Oak Park home and actually won an award from village for one of the most improved properties. Reid roofing was one of the most cunning and dishonest contractors I have come across.
Description of Work: ORIGINAL REPORT: We were looking for a complete roof replacement, including replacement gutters, new plywood and the rest. We had a cedar shingle roof, with 3 layers of asphalt over it. Reid gave the lowest by far at $7,500, but when I questioned the price, they said that replacement plywood/tear off was not included and raised their price to $11,500. Andy (the estimator) told me and my wife numerous times, the garage and gutters were included price as well as a flat section. (We have inlayed gutters so the gutters had to go with the roof.) We asked them to put what they were saying to us in writing and give us some examples of roofs they had done so we could check out the quality of their work. While waiting for them to re-write the contact, we checked out the previous work examples they gave us. They houses looked horrible, the roofs and gutters showed signs of very poor work. Gutters were falling off and roofs had horrible sags in them, especially the one on Barry Ave. They got us back the quote with what they said was included it was for $17,500. I asked that they explain the price increase from $7,500 to $11,500 to $17,500 and give us other references. They never got back to us even though Andy promise later that day. BE CAREFUL with REID roofing, my wife and I felt lucky that we didn't go with them. They appear to be running a bait and switch operation. We felt if we had gone with them, that we would have huge overages. Check out the work they have done in the past and you will see for yourself. These people should be avoided.

Response from Reid Roofing Inc
The posting from this member is a one sided account of what really transpired and I will try to explain. When we was contacted the estimate was for the removal of the shingle roof only and they were looking for the cheapest price, with this type of roof and edge flashing. You can not see if the roof decking is solid or not so we had put the price for new plywood decking separate in case so the customer would see what it would be if it needed plywood. After numerous visits and many hours she added a new item such as crown molding, flat sections added on, new gutters added on, garage roof added on, ect. Of course the price went up! These people wanted a new house for $7,000.00. This is our first bad report on any listing and it is not fair because we did not work for these people and would not recommend any other company to do so. They should be clear in what they would like to do in the first visit and not waste the company's time with pipe dreams.

when they first started it was a huge mess but i was assured that these kinds of jobs always start that way...but four days later, i had a new roof and everything else.and the clean up was particularly good since i cant even tell they were there in the first place considering how messy the job was.they were very cautious as to not disturb the neighbors yard much and were very prompt at the end of the day as far as clean-up.
Description of Work: roof tear-off,brick work from base of roof on up on each side, new chimney, new gutters and down spouts.
