We experienced flooding in our basement. We needed to remove wet drywall and insulation, and prevent the spread of mold. Scott came out and quoted us a reasonable price based on his onsite evaluation of the property and he advised that he could send his crews out promptly. When he and his crew arrived Scott required full payment before the job was even started! We needed to complete the job quickly, so we made the payment. Later in the day he advised that the job was more involved than he originally thought (remember, he had come out to the property beforehand, and specifically told us what needed to be done) and we would have to pay him more for the job. When we refused, he demand that we sign a release and indemnification or he would walk off the uncompleted job, even though we had already paid him. Again we were stuck, so we signed the release. He then finished the job, but we later discovered that he missed an area that should have been completed. I might add that in the midst of this "stick-up" we called in another highly rated angies list contractor who advised us not to do the additional work. My advice - run, don't just walk, away from this contractor!!!

Description of Work: There was a major fire next to a six-flat that I own. I called Scott to check out my fire and smoke damage and to have him scope out the situation. He told me that the damage we had incurred was not severe enough to require his services. I really appreciated his honesty. He was very courteous, even though his visit would not lead to any work (at that time.)

Since mold and water damage can be a big unknown and invisible to the eye, we were concerned that we had issues in our bedroom. PuroClean came out and was so helpful. He gave us advice as to how to handle our issue and did not charge us anything. He could have easily told us we had some sort of damage that we couldn't see and he didn't do that. It was very helpful. Hopefully we will not need water damage or mold services again in the future but if we do, our first call will be to PuroClean.
Description of Work: During a major rain storm we had water come into our lower level master bedroom and we were concerned that there migh tbe mold or other water damage. We called PuroClean to come out to survey the damage.

Great. Contacted the local (Northbrook) office and they were here in less than 10 minutes. Explained exactly what would be done and ways to prevent future flooding. Returned several days later to collect their equipment (fans, dehumidifier) and test carpet and walls for residual moisture. After several months, I'm confident there was no permanent damage from the flood.

Extremely pleased with their responsiveness, professionalism and results. We felt like we got good advice.
Description of Work: Our 1400 sq ft finished basement was flooded with 4 - 6" of water after the huge rains on July 23/24, 2011. After the standing water drained away we were left with a huge mess. I contacted PuroClean about 4 pm and they called back immediately. One hour later a team of five guys were cheerfully removing the pad under by carpet and hauling our stuff out of the basement. They worked until 11 pm without stopping. They left their huge fans and a big dehumifier, hoping to dry out the carpet. Alas, it was not to be so 3 days later a crew came back and hauled out the carpet. Since the exterior walls were still wet, finally they decided it would be necessary to cut out several inches of drywall and remove wet insulation. It's a good thing they did because there was still standing water inside the wall cavity. Over a week and a half, Matt, TJ and their crews were at our house at least six times to be sure our basement was finally dry and did not smell.

It didn't. They never called back.
Description of Work: When we discovered that water had been quickly seeping under our basement carpet for 4 days, we called several companies including Puroclean as the carpet needed to be lifted, padding removed, mold addressed, etc. From the Puroclean website: "URGENCY AND SENSITIVITY When water is on the move, timing is critical. We answer the call and jump into action 24/7. Recognizing the trauma and emotional disruption that most people suffer, we work compassionately, professionally and quickly to contain the water first. " I called Puroclean and was told someone would call me within the hour. When I heard nothing, I called and left another message. Nothing. I understand that a company can't always get back to you quickly, but when they don't get back to you AT ALL I see it as a strong reflection of their outlook on service/customer satisfaction. I can't comment on their technical skills, but their lack of responsiveness was disheartening.

Live in Oak Park, 1st time using Angie's list, I called to see about getting them to come out to look at our basement for mold since we flooded from last weeks storm. They took information and told me they would dispatch a tech to call me back. No one ever called me back. Next day I called again, left info again and they said they would pass on my message for the second time. No one ever called me back. I understand they could be very busy, but I would have appreciated a call back even to let me know they are busy. Business must be great. Would have loved to describe services performed but never got the chance.

I don't know if the steps Scott told me to take are going to fix the problem, but if they don't I will call him back ask him to come on out to take another look and will have have great confidence that whatever he things needs to be done is what actually needs to be done. And then I'll hire him to do it. I recommend Scott Majeski and PuroClean very highly.
Description of Work: I just purchased and moved into a two flat and had the cable company over to get t.v. turned on. When the tech pulled one of the cable wires from the wall of the finished basement he found it covered with black mold and called me to take a look (thanks to him for catching it). My heart sank. I immediately researched mold remediation specialists on Angie's List and called PuroClean first. The owner, Scott Majeski, took my call and worked me in to his schedule quickly. When he arrived I showed him the original place we thought we had found mold and he went to work. He pulled the cable, saw the mold on it and on the surrounding area and pronounced that, yest, there was mold. My heart sank. Scott then did an extremely thorough inspection of the rest of the basement, checking all the nooks and crannies for signs of mold and the potential for mold. He found a couple other potential problem areas. Scott then went looking for the source of the moisture and found the likely culprit in some cracked sealant between the sidewalk and foundation. So at the end of the inspection when the time came for Scott to give me his report having followed him through his process, listened to his assessments and seen the trouble areas, I had resigned myself to a very expensive conclusion. To my great relief, though, he came up with something much more positive. Scott gave me some very detailed directions on steps I could take myself to take care of the problem - walked me through everything- and told me he didn't think his services were required yet. I want to say that having seen what I had seen I was completely prepared for the likelihood of having to pay for an expensive remediation process and if Scott had told me that was wehat was needed, I would have said go ahead. He could have done that, made money and moved on with me probably thanking him in the end for getting rid of a hazardous mold problem. But because he is an honest guy, he didn't.

Fortunately, the problem was not as extensive as I had thought and he gave me a detailed recommendation for how I could remediate the mold problem myself. I had a second company give me an estimate and they told me it would be $500 to start and didn't know how high the price might be but that they'd have to do an extensive amount of work and utilize "air scrubbers" and quarantining off the area(s) to be cleaned...basically they really scared me as to how "dangerous" the situation was. I spoke to Scott again who, although was not making any money from our consultation, reassured me that based on his professional opinion of what he saw and that according to EPA guidelines, I could definitely, safely clean the area(s) myself. He also e-mailed me information from the EPA about this as well as a very specific e-mail detailing what I should/could be doing to improve the situation in my basement in the future. I as very impressed with his honesty and professional knowledge. I would absolutely recommend him to my family, friends and neighbors 100%.
Description of Work: The owner, Scott Majeski, answered the phone when I called and made an appointment to come out right away to come assess the extend of the mold problem I had in my basement. Based on his assessment of the limited amount of mold he determined that a professional was not really necessary.

He told me that the estimate wouldn't be under $1000.00 and it wouldn't be over $2000.00 because he didn't know how far the mold would go once he started looking. That's why I didn't go with him. The guy seemed like a salesman to me. I didn't trust what he was telling me about what might need to be done with the mold issue. That was my gut feeling. He could have been dead on. I didn't trust him and I sure didn't want to spend $2000.00 for the job. He was pleasant and cordial. I didn't feel like he had my best interest in mind. I felt like he was trying to look for a big job. That's how I read his spiel.
Description of Work: PuroClean Property Restoration Specialists came out and gave me an estimate on mold testing and remediation. The mold was basically due to a toilet leaking.

We had a horrible smell coming out of our 1st level townhouse, which we determined might be mold when we went down there and our footsteps squished in the carpet. We rarely went down there, and have no idea how long the carpet was wet. Our air conditioner drain pipe had gotten clogged, and water was pouring from various parts of our furnace. We think it could have been happening for years. We called several companies, and Puroclean was the only one who came out to look at the space and give us a quote. One company was more than twice as expensive (sight unseen), and another never called back. Scott Majeski came to our house the same day I called, looked around, determined what needed to be done and what didn't (including not ripping out some of our tile), and even looked at a couple of other leaks in other areas of our house to determine if there might be mold there as well (there wasn't). He got me a quote the next day, and he and his co-worker, David, came out the next day. This was a time of pretty intense storms in Chicago, and they were able to get out to us, rip out all the nasty stuff, set up the dryers, and get out and help some other folks. They came back around 9:00 pm to do clean up, and then left the dryers running overnight. Dave came back mid-day the next day to pick up the equipment and do a final clean-up. After they left, I noticed a couple of the tiles had been broken. I let Scott know, and he told me to let him know what it would cost to repair, and he would take care of it. No big deal, tho, as we're going to have it ripped out and get new tile flooring. Any time I called with a question, Scott got back to me quickly (within two hours). Both Scott and David were friendly and as unobtrusive as possible. I hope to never need them again, but I will wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Testing for mold, ripping out soaking wet carpet, determining the wetness of drywall and baseboards and ripping out where necessary, mold remediation, and drying out the room.

Called Scott to get an estimate for some water damage due to last weekends storm. I explained my situations and he walked me through the steps to handle it on my own due to the small amount of damage. I called Scott to ask him to find time in his busy schedule to stop by and use his meters and testing devices to determine how much water was in the walls and where the concentration was higher so we could isolate the damaged areas. He was professional, dressed well, and timely. In a matter of less than 15 minutes he was able to isolate the affected areas and then walk the perimeter of the building to identify likely water penetration locations which could be causing the problem. As a building owner, working with a professional is always a very good experience. Scott is great. We had called 2 other 'professionals' who came by and offered us laundry list of repairs to make, but they were not able to pinpoint the location of the water and potential mold penetration problems like Scott!!
Description of Work: Baseboard and drywall showed deterioration caused by water penetration, but we didn't know where it was coming from.

I requested estimates from several companies (from Angie's List and referrals). I saw the great reviews on Angie's List for Puroclean in Chicago, so I called to inquire if the provided service in Northern Lake County. Scott Majeski said it was further than usual, but I requested the Puroclean Chicago vs. Milwaukee (due to ratings on this site). He was not free on the Friday I hoped for an estimate, so he came on a Sunday (his suggestion to me). I was not available/present for the walk through of the three attic spaces that had been identified by a separate company as having mold, but a friend met with him here. I understand that Scott spent about an hour looking at the area, discussing the process, measuring and clarifying the timing needed by the team. He sent an estimate promptly, which was higher than other estimates, but I felt was fair (and included the discount for Angie's List members without my requesting it). Others that provided estimates spent about 15 minutes measuring the space and not discussing process with me. His thorough-ness, communication and professionalism were worth the additional dollars (especially for the distance). On the service date, they called to let me know they were caught in traffic and would be late - courteous. The team of three then did a walk through, explained the process to me (since I was not here the first time), answered all my questions and got to work. They took about a 20 minute break for lunch and put in a very full day (till about 530)! He had noted on the first walk through a rotted board on the roof to be repaired and pointed it out to me again after their thorough clean-up.
Description of Work: Prepared, cleaned and contained mold areas in attic. They followed the recommendations from the mold tester, addressed some areas that looked suspect and noted rotted board in rood that needed replacing (suggested to hire roofer).

Scott was extremely detailed and performed many test. The best part, he was very honest and was looking for the most cost effective solution. He determined we had a very small amount of mold and felt we could handle the cleanup on our own. He recommended a very basic household cleaner found at any store.
Description of Work: We had a slow leaking pipe behind a wall that was leaking for a while and continued down to out lower finished office. The plumbers that fixed the pipe, thought they smelled mold. Scott came out and helped us determine if we had mold and worked with us to develop a plan for mold removal.

I have lived here for 40 years and it was the best service I have ever had. They even came back a couple days later to follow up with the work they had done. He seemed to be very honest and nice. After day 1, the wood was wet and could not finish the attic until it was dry. They dried it for 2 straight days and when it was dry they came back to finish. Overall, fantastic and I was very satisfied.

Scott was sitting in the driveway of the home when I arrived. He was friendly and professional. He explained everything he was doing and entertained all of my questions while on-site. Scott sent the mold test results a few days later and made him self available to consult with me on multiple occasions about the test results and the ramifications of purchasing a home with high mold levels. The test and his advice proved crucial to my decision to walk away form the deal.

Scott arrived on time and was very professional. He took a look at my basement and told us there was no permanent water damage or signs of toxic mold so no cleaning/demo was needed at this time. He also noticed that a pipe connected to our main water valve didn't look right and suggested we call a plumber. Overall a good experience, I would recommend Scott at PuroClean.

+ -1 moreThe amount of dust was overwhelming and a normal maid service wouldn't work. They came in and helped us, even though there was chaos all around, they really helped. I think the price was reasonable. It was not easy for them working in those circumstances, but they did a great job.

They had to vacuum the ceiling, walls, every surface and every area. They had to clean every item in the kitchen. They had to shampoo furniture and carpets. It was a huge amount of work.

I was in the midst of a major master bath remodel for a customer. There was extensive water damage and apparent mold. This is not our area of expertise so we wanted a professional to review the situation. I found Scott on Angie's List so I gave him a call. He was on site in 3 hours.
