Olson Rug & Flooring

We selected Olson because the prices seemed reasonable and the reviews on Angies list were overall good. Unfortunately this was a bad choice. We went to the Niles show room, we picked out carpet and we were pleased with the price and service. We made arrangements for the consultant to come out the next morning to take measurements and sign a contract. This is where Olson's customer service, respect, and interest in our business ended. Our appointment was at 10:30 AM. The consultant did not show up at 10:30 and it was not until 11:15 AM that he called to say he stopped by the store and got "hung" and could not make it to the house, but he would come at 4:30 PM. I said no problem, see you then. We waited and waited, and still no consultant. Again, he did not show up. But this time he did not bother to call. He completely blew us off. I called the store and left a message for him to call me the next morning (the store was of course closed by this time). The next morning, to no surprise, no one called me. I called the store and asked to speak to a manager, and he was as useless as the no-show consultant. He told me the consultant that was supposed to come to my house was off today and he did not know why he didn't show up. I expressed that I was upset and would like to get this project moving ASAP. I asked if someone else could come to my house to measure, and he said no. He said there was nothing he could do but leave a message with my no-show consultant to call me the next day. At this point I sent an email to Olson's website, which says it will respond in 24 hours. Needless to say the next day came and I got no phone calls and no emails from Olson. I called the store once again and got the same "manager". He did not remember who I was (it was 24 hours later after all). After reminding him I was told my no-show consultant was out on another measurement. I expressed my frustrations and ended the call as it was clear they had no interest in my business. The consultant eventually called me a few days after our scheduled appointment with a half-hearted apology and no real explanation. He offered to come out to take measurements and offer us a deal. I am sure that some stores are better than others, but the Niles store has serious respect issues and has no interest in your business. I called another carpet company and the owner of the company is coming to my house to show us samples and take measurements. I think he will take my business more seriously.

Cathey at the Norridge location was very helpful in explaining the different carpet choices. The turnaround time was very good. It only took a couple weeks from when we ordered to have the carpet installed. The only problem we had was the installation crew put a small hole in the back of our bedroom door. This is a hollow door and they must have pushed it too hard as the door stop punched a small hole in door. I let Cathy know and she told me she would report it to installation but no one from installation ever called me back. Other than this everything went well and carpet looks very good. I am hoping that installation will still contact me.

Went to the store on North Clark street, and was given several samples of flooring to take home. Salesman then came to my home, and selection of carpet, kitchen tile, and window treatments were finalized. Three different installers were involved, but all came in a timely fashion and the work was completed with no problems. Salesman very helpful and professional throughout.

Rogi for the Oak Lawn store came out to take measurements and help me make a selection. He came very prepared and worked a time in on the weekend to see me. He was very professional and a great salesman! The carpet I ordered came in sooner than expected and originally, I was going to have to install the carpet in part of the apartment on day and the other part on another day. Two days before installation was going to occur, I realized that I could carpet the whole unit on one day because a project occurring in the unit finished early. I called Rogi back, and he was quickly able to have a full installation take place on the same day. The Olson installers showed up early in the day and started installation. About 4 hours later, they were finished. I was very satisfied with the work quality. I was really impressed as the carpet was properly installed unlike the previous carpet which was in the unit before; the Olson crew used the proper tools and even tucked the carpet under the trim edges like other installers recommend.

The Olsen Rug company web site clearly states that their Norridge store is open from 11-5 on Sunday http://www.olsonrug.com/Page_39/Location_9/Store.aspx?name=Norridge-carpet-flooring-tile-store. After a half hour drive to the store, arriving more than an hour before they were supposed to close, I found the store dark and the Sunday hours removed from the sign on the door. Update you web site, this is 2010! I can not imagine doing business with a company this disorganized.

They got me the estimate in a timely fashion and installed on schedule.

They were pretty fast and everything is great. They did what they said they would do. The price was a little high.

They were professional and it worked out great.

We paid about $ 500 on the carpets and we did not have them do the installation. The carpet was delivered to the warehouse in a timely manner and the sales people were helpful.

The location we used was in Downers Grove off of 75th street. I've passed by this store so many times and never thought to actually use them for carpet. I assumed they would be expensive. But after getting quotes from Home Depot and Lowes, Olson Rug was a little less expensive. Then on top of that, the person we were working with at the store knew we found them on Angies List and reminded us to print off the 10% coupon to give to the guys when they come to measure. So we saved quite a bit over Lowes and Home Depot. We were trying to match the berber carpet we already had in the basement, and Olson had the best match as well. They let us take samples home. Home Depot did too for free. Lowes chared $100 deposit for the samples. The installers were punctual - they called right at 7am in the morning to tell us exactly when they would be there so we didn't have to wait around. The did a great job in blending the crease between the new and old carpeting. I plan to use Olson Carpet at this Downers Grove location when we redo our carpet in the rest of the house.

I needed new carpet on the 4th floor of my house. My cats did a real number on the area when we moved in 2 1/2 years ago. I knew Olsens from driving past location on Clark Street. I also reviewed on this website. Stopped in and spoke with Jeff who was friendly and very knowledgable. He came out that afternoon to measure the area. We were able to get the carpet installed in a very timely manner. The only caveat would be that the installers were supposed to call prior to arriving and they did not. They said they did but I was home with my cell on me and never received a call. Not that is mattered..I was up and waiting at 8am when they arrived. Bottom line - love my new carpet and experience went very smoothly.

I would still recommend doing your diligence. Home Carpet One came close on price but in the end I just felt Olson Rug was best as they got me quote first, but were last out to look at site.

The salesman was punctual, knowledgeable & thoroughly explained options & carpeting types (samples were brought to our home, we did not visit the store). After receiving the initial payment (50% down to order the carpet; 50% due upon completion of installation), he left us with coupons for cleaning & mailed more after the installation. After receiving the quote, I presented the Angie's List coupon & it was accepted. The installers arrived on time & were courteous. The installation was performed in a timely manner & the carpeting looks great.

I don't normally take the time to review but I felt as though my experience with Olson Rug was worthy of the time. This was the worst merchant experience I have ever had and I highly recommend that you do not use them. I had the bulk of my carpet order delivered and installed and the carpet for one room didn't arrive (the measurer forgot to order that piece). Over the course of the next two months, I never received this carpet. I scheduled the appointment no less than 25 times only to hear excuses such as the wrong size was delivered, the wrong color, the installer got stuck on his last job, etc. and even such as excuses as the delivery truck was hijacked and the carpet was stolen and that the installer got in a fist-fight with the carpet salesman was arrested. I mean, seriously? Throughout the course of these excuses, I was promised this last piece of carpet would be free, in addition to some free blinds. Needless to say, none of these orders ever arrived. When I finally requested my money back, I was told for days that I would receive a credit card credit and, of course, I didn't. So, I have since filed a complaint with Mastercard. I just had to take a minute to say please shop somewhere else!

First we went to the store to see what kind of merchandise they had and picked out something we thought we would like. Then we made an appointment with them. They came to measure the room and brought samples for us to make our final decision. Then they came in and installed the carpeting. Everything went smoothly. Their prices were good. We got a better line. It was more expensive. We got better carpeting. They had a wide selection of carpeting and prices. We got what we paid for. They showed up on time; when they were supposed to. They were very efficient. They finished very quickly and cleaned up after themselves. We had no problem at all.

The service was really good. They came out and measured everything and made recommendations. We had out of town guests arriving and they were able to get the new carpet in before their arrival. The day they did the installation was a very hot day. The room they were doing the installation was facing the sun and it was so hot in the room. The installers removed the furniture and put the new carpet in and put everything back the way it was. We offered them something to drink and they never let the heat effect their work. We thought there was a problem with a seam being visible and the sales person came out and had a repair person come out and they repaired the seam for us.

They were professional, responsive and punctual. They completed the work in a 24 hour turnaround time-frame. The quality of their work was good and I was satisfied with their service.

Fred in the Skokie store was good at helping us select the carpet, honored the Angies List discount and managed a few installation date changes. Installation looks good. We were promised, though, that the installers would remove and cut up the old carpet. Instead, they dumped it in one big bundle on the side of the house. When we called to follow up, the salesperson said that normally they do cut it up and probably if they did not it was small enough that the trash people would take it. He advised to wait and see what would happen. Foolishly, I took this advice and of course the trash people did not take the carpet. By then, it was wet, moldy, and full of worms, so I really did not enjoy cutting and rolling it myself. I called the sales guy just now and he had nothing to offer except to say "you should have called me." Which is great, except that I did call him and it did not result in action. After posting this, a manager called me back and apologized, then offered to pay for the special trash pickup. I accepted.

Great. We got a carpet remnant, as opposed to a new roll, which saved some cost but looks just as good. The installers went the extra mile with the little closet area. Everything looks great.

I had a very positive experience. They were very professional and patient. At the time, I had to change the date on them a couple of times, and they were very accommodating. They came early in the morning and were finished in the early afternoon. They moved the refrigerator and everything. They gave me a chance to clean the floor. The salesperson was also patient and informative. They gave me a lot of choices for the flooring.

I went to their store with measurements and got an estimate from them, and I also got a good quality carpet. I clean carpets too for a living, so I know what I am looking for. They could have put the registers back in, but they did not, and I ended up doing that. They did everything they said they were going to do and they came out when they said they would. I have no complaints and the experience has been positive.

Initially we were very pleased with this company, the salesman was great and they showed up on time and did the job. However upon closer inspection, the floor boards did not line up properly and some of the floor was damaged by the workers and not properly installed.

Our builder recommended them. they feel very confident with their installers and their overall reputation of the company. If something were to go wrong, they feel that Olsen would respond to fix the problem. It took them a full day to finish. This was the last thing in our newly finished basement and it was great. In the showroom, the employee we spoke with was trying to talk us out of the carpet we wanted. We knew what we wanted, and she kept trying to talk us out of getting the berber carpet. She wouldn't leave us alone about the carpet when we told her it was what we wanted.

I called and talked to Fred and they helped me right away. I brought a sample of the carpet, and he followed me home to see which one would work the best. They came out in a couple of days to do the work, too.

We called up the manufacturer, Mohawk, and for some reason they only gave us two companies that sold their product. One of them was Olson Rug. I called Olson and spoke to Shelton who seemed friendly enough. He essentially told me to come in and he'll see if he can match it. When I came in that evening, unfortunately, Shelton was gone and we had to deal with another guy, Jim. At first, Jim came right up to us and asked if he could help. I explained to him the situation and that I had talked to Shelton earlier. Jim lead me to some swatches of carpet and told me that I could look through these because these were on sale and and see if I can find a close match. I told him that I wasn't interested in finding a close match and wanted the exact same carpet. I asked if there was any kind of catalog where I can look to see if I can find it. He was very discouraging and he said that there was no such catalog and it would be nearly impossible to match it. I told him that Shelton had asked me to come in with a sample of the carpet for that reason. Jim said that Shelton must have meant to find something similar but it would not be the same carpet. My husband started looking around the store and actually found the exact same carpet. Jim said, "Well, I was trying to save you some money but you're choosing one of the most expensive carpets." I asked him if he could just tell me how much it would cost for the size that I needed. He came back and said it was $145. I told him that it wasn't too bad considering how much we've spent fixing this problem that we have. Then he said, "Well, in that case, it'll be $175." I was so surprised by his attitude. He was discouraging, didn't want to help us look for the carpet, and then he joked about charging us more for it. My husband and I left the store disgusted and really didn't want to give him any business.
