Olson Rug & Flooring

We could not have been happier. Our old carpet had been stained by two former cats over the space of 20 years. We shopped around until we ended up at Olson Rug in Skokie, where Fred and Stan were wonderfully helpful, and introduced us to a carpet that had (no joke) withstood three weeks of abuse by rhinos, camels and elephants, and bounced back as good as new (there's a YouTube video that deserves to go viral). Amazingly, it was also the best price we'd been quoted by anyone. The day of the scheduled install, the men arrived right on time, but when they took up the old carpet we discovered that our remaining cat had begun to urinate in the spots previously staked out by the one who'd died (we're pretty sure her new behavior was due to a combination of failing kidneys and cataracts, which made it more difficult to see in the darkened basement, where her cat box is located). The head installer suggested that we reschedule the install for the following week, so we'd have the time to deal with the hardwood floor beneath the soaked pad, and also described a type of pad that would not absorb liquid in the future. He also called his dispatcher to make sure they'd be able to return on the day we wanted. We instantly called Fred and added the new pad to the order, and although there is normally a charge for a second visit, he waived it! Over the week, we were able to disinfect the floor and eliminate the odor, so when they returned the floor was as it should have been. They did a beautiful job, quickly and skillfully. We've already recommended the Skokie location to several friends, and will continue to do so.

Olson Rugs couldn't have been nicer. We live in the neighborhood so stopped in just to look at samples--and even took a sample book home. Then I checked them out on Angie's List to find that they had excellent reviews--well deserved. When we went back, Fred was extremely helpful. We told him the timetable we had for installing the carpet, in the midst of other home remodeling and he insisted that it would be no problem to come to our house to personally measure the room so that he could get the carpet order in the next day--waiting for his regular measuring guys would have taken a few more days. He brought additional samples for us to see so that we could make our final determination on the color. After our order was in, and additional discount came up from the supplier and Fred applied it to our order, saving us $200! That was just the great experience of dealing with the sales end. The installers came promptly. My ONLY complaint would be that they wouldn't let us know until the morning of installation what time they were going to come, which was rather inconvenient in juggling work. But this was not Olson Rugs--it was the installers who set the schedule. The two installers were courteous and got right to work. They did a terrific job in fitting the carpet around edges in an oddly shaped room and our stairs never looked better. When they were done, they cleaned up thoroughly and had me check it over to make sure everything was in good order. It was. We are extremely happy with the selection we made and the quality of service at Olson Rugs. I have been past there hundreds of times and even shopped there 20 years ago, but they certainly are worth considering for carpeting. We will go back when we do our next round of decorating. One last comment. I got a call today from Fred that another client was able to get a rebate from FEMA for flood damage. He knew that we were also replace carpet because of flooding and wanted to let me know that this was available. Great guy!

After having to remove carpeting due to water damage following a major rain storm, my sister contacted Olson Rug and Flooring in Bloomingdale to inquire about having a ceramic tile floor installed in her basement. The representative at the store was very nice, showed samples of tile as well as carpet flooring options and made a date to come to the site to measure and discuss what would need to be done. At the house, a quote of $5000.00 was given that was to include the tile, all other needed materials as well as installation. We were told that an installer would come out to assess the job if she decided to commit to Olson doing the work. My sister asked if the installer's assessment could result in a change in price and she was assured that would not happen. A few days later, she went back to the Bloomingdale location to sign a contract and pay a 50% deposit, as was required. Again, she was assured that this was a firm price. Subsequently, the installer called, made an appointment and came to the house to discuss the job. Since it is a basement floor in an older house, there are some areas that would need patching and leveling before the tile could be installed, and this was discussed and acknowledged not only with the installer, but also with the sales rep. when he came out to give the estimate. A few days later, the sales rep. called my sister to inform her that the installer had decided that the job would require extra patching material and that this would result in a price increase of $1400.00 - bringing the total to $6400.00. When the sales rep. was reminded that he had promised the price would not be altered after the installer's visit, he replied "Did I say that?". Upon being told that he needed to honor the contract, he said that he couldn't and there was really nothing he could do. Needless to say, my sister and I feel the whole approach was a bait-and-switch to get the customer to commit, and then try to coerce them to give more money. She refused to go along with this and canceled the job. We will not use Olson Rug for anything in the future - their promises, and apparently their contracts, are meaningless.

I stopped into the showroom and met with the lone associate in the store. He was very professional and helpful. He didn't try to upsell me or use hard-sell tactics. I indicated I was putting carpet in for a rental property, and he quickly directed me to the nice, but inexpensive carpet selections, and helped me pick out the right balance of cost and longevity. I had a fairly short window to get it installed, and they did a great job of meeting my needs. The only negative was that the carpet took a few days longer to come in from the factory than they indicated, which pushed us right up against our install deadline, but they still got a crew out and got it installed in time. I had a very good experience with Olsen. I'd looked at the big box stores and the Chicago jingle companies, but I felt I got much better service and a better deal overall with these guys. I spent a bit more than I'd wanted, and install day took a while longer than I thought it might (but I admit that was probably more my ignorance). It looks great, and made a huge difference in renting my property.

I thought they have good quality of material, did what they said and did it in timely fashion.

I was preparing my Evanston condo for sale and needed a low cost, neutral, nice looking carpet for the sun room. They helped me pick exactly the right option, installed it within the week, removing all old carpet remnants and cleaning up perfectly. Very respectful, prompt and professional. They did not urge me to buy something I didn't need; listened to my requirements and quickly met them. Terrific service and wonderful experience from start to finish.

..I asked for an estimate, thinking that they would measure and then give me an estimate itemizing carpeting at a certain dollar value for the job as a whole. Since the carpeting was going to be the same in the entire house and other dealers had done this, I thought they would as well. What I got was dollar figures written on the back of a business card. Beside one figure was the work Berber light and next to the other was Berber multi (or something like that). I had told them that Berber was a possibility but that the decision had not been made yet. But frankly the numbers were so much lower than the other estimates I got that I didn't trust it. Without specifying what they would do or a cost per yard, I would have no way of knowing if they were competitive or not. The other estimates I got stated exactly what rooms they would cover, the square foot cost of the carpeting (range), who would be responsible for hauling away old carpeting and pad etc. One of our other estimates stated they would put the carpeting on the parkway while the other one stated they would take the old away. But pricing on those two were within $500 of each other. The time I spent with them while they came up with their figure was wasted as the estimate was not complete enough to even begin to compare with the other estimates. I probably could have wrung more information out of them but I already had two very good estimates that were clear and complete so I just wrote them off.

I had a spot that the sun discolored, they replaced that piece, and they did a great job.

They have been very informative and helpful. We have been very satisfied with our experience thus far.

We purchased this carpet from the Clark Street Olson Rug Location in Chicago. We had picked out a carpet one year earlier which we hadn't seen at any other store, but got sidetracked from the project. When we went back, Cameron recognized us, and was able to find our old order. He came the next week to measure our space, which is an odd size, and made good recommendations about where to have the seems in the carpet, as well about our baseboards, which were not yet installed. He also was able to give us a very good price. The carpet came in sooner than expected (less than 2 weeks) and it was installed very professionally and very quickly by two installers, who arrived early and finished in less than a day. We were completely satisfied.

.They did a really good job and their installers were very good. They were really easy to work with, provided a wide range of options and it went as smoothly as I could have hoped.

We called to get a quote for carpet on 3 rooms. The salesman first canceled the appointment to come out and then called to say he would come only if we guaranteed that we would buy from them. We told him forget it and went with someone else.

I contacted the Naperville store for an in-home estimate. I arrived home from work about 3 minutes after the time the consultant was scheduled to arrive. I then waited for 45 minutes, but no one showed up or called. So, I called the store. The person I talked to stated that the consultant arrived at the house, but no one was home and he left. She also stated that he called back to the office at 6:15 which I found interesting considering I was home by 6:03. I don't know if he arrived early and just left. I would have appreciated a phone call to my cell before he just decided to leave, especially since I arrived home only 3 minutes late.The person at the store that I spoke with was rude and said that the consultant told her, "She'll (meaning me) call back if she wants to reschedule." She did not appologize for him leaving immediately and not calling. It gave me some good insight into what Olsen thinks of their potential customers. Too bad for them; the job would have cost a few thousand dollars. Guess they don't need the business.

We had a great experience! Our basement flooded in the summer of 2010. Since we lost everything, we fixed the source of water seepage and decided to remodel the basement. It took about a year and a half. We always had the date of our daughter's 1st Birthday party (Jan 7) as our deadline to have the project completed. Well, since carpet was the last step of the project, I started calling around December 29. Talk about cutting it close! Many companies could not help us at all. I called Olson Rug in Downers Grove and spoke to Jennifer. She was so helpful! Since we wanted a neutral color, she said there were a few carpets in stock and to come by to look at them. We went there that day and she showed us a beautiful Mohawk carpet that was overstocked and therefore on sale. It was normally 7.99 a square foot on sale for 2.49 a square foot! It is stain resistant with a 10 year warranty. Jennifer totally understood the time crunch we were under and said she would be at our home the next day to measure and it could be installed the next week (2 days before the party!). Her visit to our home was very pleasant. She has a very professional, yet fun personality. After the measuring, she gave us the total & we paid half as a deposit. The next week, Luis the installer called at 8 am he day of the install. He and one other installer arrived at the promised time. It took about 6 hours for installation, as our basement is pretty large. We paid our balance that day. The carpet is beautiful and most importantly, it was installed in time for our daughter's party! We would definitely use Olson Rug and work with Jennifer again! We highly recommend this company!

Generally they did an okay job. They were suppose to show up in the morning but they didn't show till 6 o'clock at night and didn't leave till 11 o'clock. They called throughout the day and kept delaying. My wife was waiting all day.

They were great and I will continue to use them in future.

OLSON RUG & FLOORING installed smart strand carpet in our basement. Karen Appiah was the first of three vendors that came to our house in order to propose a good solution for our basement needs. She was very knowledgeable about the industry and gave me a good overall breakdown as to what to look for when shopping. Of course I had to do my due diligence via the web in order to see that she was right on the mark with what she was telling me. Their installers were top notch and very good at time management. We had an extremely short turn around time from ordering the carpet to installation and I questioned in my mind as to weather or not it would be done. However Karen Appiah and OLSON RUG & FLOORING came through with flying colors.

They did an excellent job. Salesman Cameron was very competent and conscientious. He came to our apt. with samples after I had visited the store. Work was performed efficiently and in a comparatively short time.

Needed to replace carpet in finished basement due to water backing up through drains during our recent heavy rains. I wanted to replace with same carpeting and padding I had ordered previously from Olson 4 years ago. The carpet installers did a great job, but when we stepped on the carpet we could tell the padding was not as thick as our previous one had been. When I called the store owner, he told me we had gotten the best padding they had and that they no longer carried the padding we had gotten from them previously. Lesson learned. When ordering carpeting, be sure to get a sample of the padding. Chances are it won't be an issue for you, but better safe than sorry.

Carpeting looks great. The only problem was, Olson made a measuring error and more carpet had to be ordered. After some discussion, Olson made good on their original estimate and I got all the carpet I ordered at the original price we had agreed on. I was concerned about the thresholds, but Olson set them up so my floor guy(Burt Flooring) was able to do them with no problems and they blend perfectly with my hardwood floor(see pics).

The carpet was installed on time and for the estimate given to me. It was after the installation that I had issues. Unfortunately, my pets soiled the carpet and neither the stains or the odor can be removed even after 2 professional cleanings. The other carpet has not had the same problem. When I called to report this and to see if they were willing to do anything ot remediate the problem or to give me a price break on replacing the carpet in this room, the personell, including the store manager were totally unhelpful to the point of being rude. I will not use this store for any products in the future because of the way they treated the issue.

Mike Lossau at the Bloomingdale store was very knowledgeable in both product and installation. The job was done on time and as specified. The carpeting is very comfortable and attractive. The stain free/poly contruction is durable, soft, and eco-friendly. The workers did break a $13.00 suciton cupped mirror that we had left on a door, and we just didn't like that they didn't tell us, but it's obviously not a big deal. Make sure they agree to haul all the scraps away. That was the only minor snafu. I did not even report this, although I'm sure that since they are all Olson employees it would have been taken care of promptly. We have a great carpet and padding and at a great price.
