The movers were able to take me early. They arrived and got to work immediately. I was able to get moved in quickly and without a freight elevator. They even took out all of the trash from my previous move! I needed help with my bed and they assisted me. Great moving company!

New City was absolutely the best!! I was so sick and dizzy with an inner ear infection when I was trying to help my daughter move into her new apartment. Not only did this crew move all of her belongings safely into her apartment, placing them exactly where she wanted them and putting them together, they helped me in my dizzy state into her apartment and made sure that I too made it safely on the steps! Wow! They first made sure that I was safe and then went about moving an entire truck of my daughter's belongings. Kudos to whomever does the hiring for this company, because you have the best of the best on your team! So attentive and professional. I will definitely call them again when we move her again!

I was so ready to give everything a five-star review, until we unpacked the last set of boxes. But here in order: The preparation of the move went smoothly, the estimate was very high, about $5k, but New City told us that they just don't like to underestimate. The actual bill was much lower. We picked New City based on their prior reviews of being careful and diligent, and for the most part we weren't disappointed - they let us purchase some of our own boxes (much cheaper) and used those first, they brought tons of packing paper, plastic foil, tape, etc. A crew of five or six packed on one day, and then another crew of five or six did the move two days later. Everybody was polite, professional, swift, and seemed very careful. A couple of times they got a little cavalier with box cutters an inch above the cork floors in the new place, but nothing got dinged or damaged in the move. The only boxes we did not unpack until later, due to schedule, were the book boxes. New City stacked them in the guest room/library and we left them there for four weeks until we finally had time to tackle this last room. And that was an entirely different picture - the boxes seemed to have been packed by a ten-year-old. Large softcover books placed on top of a stack of smaller hardcovers, then more hardcovers on top of that, to permanently bend the softcover over the books below. Books shoved spine-down on the side of a stack, then another book spine up on top of that, so the edges of the top book slide into the book below, scrunching down the pages between the covers. Boxes sealed with empty space left unfilled, so that the books would tumble around and get dog-eared or bent. Everything they did right with all other items, including artwork, antique dishes, etc., they did wrong with the books. As mentioned, we have eight shelves worth of them. They have been collected over the years and are dear to us. They have easily survived a move across country from LA two years ago, including three months of storage in the heat in AZ; all have survived several moves across the country and some even across the Atlantic, but the four-block move within Chicago was the only one to do some actual damage. But I wanted to make sure this gets considered when other people choose their movers based on reviews here, much like I did. Moving is like driving a school bus or conducting surgery - it's somewhat pointless to want to fix things after the fact; the energy should go into making sure mistakes/negligence doesn't happen in the first place. Books cannot be unbent. As good as New City was, this was an inexcusable bit of negligence that caused damage, was ridiculously easy to prevent, and simply should not have happened. To head off some expected questions - no, we have not contacted New City after we discovered this. What would they do? Many of the books aren't even in print anymore, and of course they are still "usable" - a good number of them just look like crap. I am not interested in compensation, a refund, or even an apology. The price for the service was very adequate, but moving people's personal belongings is a "don't mess this up" kind of business. There are many of those - cab drivers, people hanging artwork at the Art Institute, dentists and surgeons, and movers. All these professions have to develop failsafes that make sure mistakes don't happen in the first place. For us it was the books, for the next person it may be Grandma's China. For this reason I can not recommend using the services of New City moving.

New City Moving did an excellent job. They arrived on time and finished the job in an hour less than the quoted time. They disassembled and reassembled all the furniture and everything arrived safely with no damage. The team were friendly and efficient. Highly recommended, I would definitely use them for future moves.

It was great! The customer service was great and the crew was right on time. The four gentlemen that moved everything were fast, professional, and polite. Nothing was broken. They were very conscientious of where we wanted furniture/boxes. They wrapped everything and taped everything well. They finished the job in less time and for less money than we were quoted. This was our 2nd time using them and both times they were great!

It went very well. All of the members of the move team (there were four of them) introduced themselves as they walked in. They wrapped all of our furniture and packed some small remaining items. The work was done quickly and carefully. It took around 3 hours to move a one bedroom apartment across town. The company was recommended by friends and we are sure to recommend them in the future. Truly a five star experience.

Great crew! Very professional. They arrived right on time and moved me quickly while being very cautious of my possessions. They even went out of their way to help pack my closet! Once I arrived in my new place, they made sure to drop boxes off in the appropriate area and asked where to put furniture. Lastly, they did not rush. After everything was in my place, they asked if I was okay with the location of the furniture or if they could help make any adjustments.

They were great! On time, fast, good with our stuff.

Everyone was responsive and professional from start to finish. Alicia communicated promptly and efficiently about setting up the move and the estimate. The packers were friendly and efficient. The movers worked incredibly fast and hard. When I thought that some items were missing from the move (and it turned out that they weren't), Jessie was excellent with communication and helping me with next steps.

Alex and the team did a fantastic job! They were professional and this made the move seemless. Will definitely use and recommend New City Movers to love ones.

We booked New City Moving at the last minute, after finding a loft we loved and closing very quickly. Claire initially called me to give me an estimate and was very helpful. We exchanged emails several times while I updated my estimate and gave new information, and she was very prompt and friendly. I had a team of four guys, Jose G., Carlos A., Efrain P., and Pedro S. They were all incredibly friendly, hardworking and FAST. Like, super fast. As in... they had my two bedroom apartment cleared out in under a hour. Seriously -- I have a lot of stuff -- and they were AMAZINGLY efficient. They communicated when needed (asking me to check rooms to make sure items were all cleared out, asking me the best way to wrap different items, etc). While I've used The Professionals in the past, I will direct all moving needs now to New City because of the level of friendliness and professional customer service these four guys showed. Best of all, they reassembled my very heavy bed better than I could originally have. I also had a tv cabinet that had broken legs (my fault -- from months ago) and they went ahead and fixed that free of charge. Seriously, my team was the best. None of my items were damaged in the move and everything was treated with importance. I had a very old, very expensive cello moved and it was in pristine condition (along with all my other belongings). I also spoke briefly to Drew over the phone when paying, who was equally warm and friendly. Thanks guys! You rock!

Great service from start to finish. Setting up the move was easy and the staff was friendly and responsive. On moving day, the crew was punctual, efficient, professional, and friendly. They handled all of my items with care, and nothing got scratched or broken. I used another service in Chicago during a prior move, and was highly unsatisfied. Not so with New City Moving - highly recommended.

Great. They were on time, fast and were very careful with my stuff.

I had lived in the same building for about 20 years, and had only moved once - within the building itself - so I was very anxious and nervous about the move. The movers arrived early. Cruz, the foreman, introduced himself and was very professional and polite. They worked so fast that we actually had to wait a bit to get into the new building! Once there, despite the fact that one of the elevators was done, they moved everything in very quickly. An inspector found no damage at all to the hallways, doorway or elevator. They were also very good about letting me direct where things went and adjusting the position of the furniture "a little to the right/left". Cruz clearly explained the bill, which was very close to the original estimate, and I have seen no major damage at all. I haven't completely unpacked yet, but am confident everything will be in great shape! I also want to say that Sara, my contact person, was terrific about giving information and responding to my questions.

I was very pleased with both crews that were sent. Courteous and enthusiastic and very friendly. I was even more impressed when they took three times to help there salvation army volunteers remove a couch from my old condo. I would recommend them to anyone moving and will use them in the future.

This is actually my second time using NCM. I used them to move my apartment into storage and then a second time to move my belongings from storage to my new place. They are extremely professional. When they arrived at my old apartment they quickly wrapped my belongings in plastic wrap/bubble wrap. They then without hesitation and some skillful maneuvering (in a tetras manner) fit my belongings into a storage facility I rented. When it came time to move out of storage and into my new place, they were as equally professional. They removed my belongings from storage within (about) 20 min. When we reached my new apartment they quickly unloaded my things placing boxes in the area of the apartment, for which they were labeled. They then built my desk and placed it in the corner of the room where I wanted it as well as unwrapped and arranged my desk and dressers. They laid down plastic to protect my carpet during the move on both occasions. The tape used on the desk did kinda damage the top of my desk but to be honest, when I moved the desk into my first apartment in Chicago, I did the exact same thing to the side of the desk. So, I say that not to say it was NCM but the finish on the desk which is just prone to this type of damage, for which I have insurance. All in all, I had a great experience with NCM, I will use NCM again and I will recommend them to others. I have used movers before and I have had things broken or mishandled and while I know accidents happen, I felt completely comfortable with NCM and the professionalism they demonstrated on more than one occasion. I paid with a credit card, which they call in over the phone. Hopefully in the future they will upgrade to a square-reader or portable device (my only recommendation).

Once again, New City Moving knocked it out of the park. This is the fourth time I have moved with them, and they always impress. The crew of three guys arrived on time. The foreman went through all the paperwork with me, and the crew got started. Within an hour, all the boxes and furniture were out of my one-bedroom, first-floor apartment and on their way to my new place. All the furniture was wrapped in blankets and plastic. They moved everything in to my new second-floor apartment in about an hour as well. Amazingly fast, professional and everything made it in one piece. They even removed all the plastic from the furniture and set up the bed. The estimate I received before the move was spot on, and I will always turn to New City when I move in the future. I highly recommend them to anyone needing to move in Chicago.

The team showed up on time to my condo and were professional from the beginning. We did a quick tour of what needed to be done and they immediately got to work. They took good care of the furniture by wrapping it and were mindful of doorways and walls. They were efficient and worked well as a 3-man team. The move in was just as easy and they took time to reassemble any furniture that they had to deconstruct to move. It was a high quality move for a great price. I will use them again in the future! Also they stayed true to their estimate and finished on time.

They were extremely professional in setting it up, and in execution. They did the entire packing and move in 3 hours, which was important because there was a Cubs game that afternoon. Israel was the leader of the group who showed up, and he could not have been more professional and efficient. They packed items with care, and not a single thing was damaged. Moreover, despite a tight staircase, they did not scratch walls, or anything like that. Every member of the team was courteous and hard working. They came in significantly under estimate. We have moved many times, and I have never had one go nearly as smoothly as this. Great job, and cannot recommend them highly enough.

It went really well! They were on time and got started right away. Everything was wrapped and covered with blankets when needed. They even went out of their way to help me with things I was going to handle on my own. We moved with our neighbors who share the building and they were very organized with two trucks to keep everything separated. They finished about an hour early and the price was $300-400 cheaper than their quote. Overall it made our moving day so much easier. Thanks to the "Flash Crew" - Carlos, Jorge, Daniel, Mauricio, Alzide, Joel, they were great!
