Mr. Handyman of Lincoln Park

First off he was two hours late. Then he had to go buy what was needed for the job. Remember you are on the clock while he is shopping. I was never told the cost of the supplies but was charged $30 dollars. I must say he was back from shopping very fast.

The hoop was installed professionally and well, but It took too long (it was hot but it seemed like it took an inordinate time. Therefore the hourly wage racked up to an amount well over half the cost of the actual hoop itself.

Tony arrived on time and was professional. We went over what I wanted done and I showed him where the water hook up was. I checked occasionally out my window to see how the job was progressing. Forty-five minutes later, the power washing had not yet begun and the carpet was still on the patio. I called the office to ask what the hold up was, as from my window it seemed there was trouble with the power washer. I had not been approached by the man doing the job. Apparently there was no place to put the cleaning solution in the power washer that was brought. I told the office I should not be paying for the at least twenty minutes of time wasted trying to figure out the power washer. They agreed. I think most people expect any worker that comes to their home to be familiar with the tools on their truck, and if the wrong tools were loaded, to say so. Here's a note - I was charged for the cleaning solution they couldn't properly use. You'd think they would at least leave me the product. The job was done well, the carpet was cut up and taken away and all the plants and furniture were put back - and arranged better than I had it initially. The charge quoted on the phone was $135 an hour with a reduced second hour of $95 (though their written materials say it is $136 for the first hour and 96 for the second). This was a job that should have taken no more than an hour and a half at most - 30 minutes to remove and replace 4 pieces of furniture and 3 plants and set up equipment, 30 minutes to remove and cut the rug in half and take it to the truck, 30 minutes to clean the concrete. The concrete had been kept up and was not a difficult cleaning job. It was a very humid day, so that probably slowed everything down and customers should be aware of this when they are paying for time.

The only issue was that Kurt had to come back to fix some wires that came loose after the first repair. Otherwise, I found Mr. Handyman easy to work with, and I'll likely call them first the next time something needs fixing and I can't do it myself.

POSSIBLY THE WORST HANDYMAN COMPANY IN AMERICA. This company was a complete disaster. I hired them to repair drywall in the bathroom, which they did a terrible job at and it immediately started peeling. I also hired them to build some new shelves into an existing in wall entertainment center. This was a complete disaster. After three trips (in which they blew me off and rescheduled each time), I finally had to hire another company to come in and rip out what they had done and redo everything. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Kurt arrived a few minutes before his scheduled time, we discussed the items we needed done and he immediately went to work. This was a full day's work--we did run into a small glitch-the ceiling fan he installed (I purchased) was defective, the lights didn't work. He tried to track the source of the problem, but since it was taking so much time, we decided it would be best for me to exchange that one for another. He installed that one and it was fine. Other than that setback, he worked quickly and efficiently and never stopped. Before moving to the next job, he would ask for clarity as needed and back to work he went. I think it was a little pricey, but I am very pleased with the services provided and would not only recommend the company but will use again in the future. Kurt was friendly and professional; I give him a standing ovation!

They are always extremely prompt, reliable, courteous, and professional. The prices are a little steep for some things but we like them. The workers are always fantastic.

We needed some general work done around the house. The workers came and replaced 3 doors including one that needed a major reframing. They also fixed 2 large holes in the wall and painted.

They fixed our garage door opener that was not working, fixed a ceiling fan that wasn’t working right, built a new platform for my washer and dryer to raise it up higher, patched a bunch of holes in the wall and put on two doorknobs. They also did some heavy lifting for me to take things outside. I had them over for a day. They were very professional, personable, helpful, punctual, reliable, and friendly. The price was kind of a sliding scale thing based on the number of hours, so it averaged about $90 an hour. The guy was pretty much able to handle everything. I went with him to a retail outlet to pick up stuff, and he helped me out there, which I appreciated. He seemed to work really quickly to get everything done, and I had no problems at all. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

I allowed them to determine the least destructive effective method of getting this cabinet securely on the wall. They decided to remove the drywall, bolt a series of 2x4s to the concrete (building out to the level of the drywall), replace the drywall, then bolt the rack through the drywall into the 2x4s. The rack is securely mounted, and they did a professional job of patching up the drywall behind it. It was a two day job, because the drywall patch had to dry before the cabinet could be mount. One of the days the workman ran an hour or so late. In fairness, I was late arriving home the other day, and they were flexible. They were not the cheapest outfit in the area. However I selected them anyway, based in part on good reviews, and also because they were able to suggest a tentative plan once I described the requirement and circumstances. Other companies refused to offer any ideas until they were hired. I am satisfied with the value of their work.

The experience was fine. They came out once. They knew the issue, so they came back out the second time to refill the things. It was fine.

They did not have the knowledge to fix a problem that I fixed myself. Whatever they did, they did a pretty good job. I would not go back to them because they did not have the knowledge to fix a unique problem. They came when they said they would come and were very punctual.

Brian was very nice and did a good job. Even told me how to clean the vent myself.

We have used Mr Handyman numerous times. Paul & David have continued to provide us with good service. They are thorough, accomodating and communicate effectively. They also give options to not overdo (or overpay) on an issue. They have been a pleasure to work with and we will use them again.

Price was unacceptable for the work performed. Worker was punctual, professional and courteous. But that service comes with a heavy price. They charged me $85/hour (with a 2 hour minimum) + $50 to show up + $20 "van charge" to get parts + they mark up the part they purchase. The hourly rate appears fair, but the other charges are egregious and, ultimately, misleading. Put another way, for these guys to show up at your house, it will cost you $220. And that is before they start doing a thing. If they need to go get a part, they continue to charge $85/hour and they add $20 for a "van charge" and they mark up the parts they buy. Again, they were very nice, professional and courteous -- but beware this comes at a heavy monetary price. I paid $350 to replace a washer, light bulbs and clean a shower head.

All-in-all, the quality of the service was impressive. I would certainly use this company again, would highly recommend it to friends, and would request Kurt if he were available. Please provide a copy of my comments to the company.

He is a local guy. I had to remove panelling from the floor to may be two feet up and the basement repair people didn't do that and they suggested that I have someone do that. I called them to do it and they came out and they actually removed the panelling from the floor up. That's when they actually found that one of the walls was molded and it definitely needed replacing. They did all the insulation work and painting to make sure everything was nice and fresh. I believe in trying to give my local guys as much business as I can. They were on time. They told me upfront what had to be done. They were honest about a lot of stuffs. First and foremost, they are very professional which is important, very knowledgeable in terms of what needs to be done. They could be like a handyman and they are be kind of specialized in more than one different thing. The owner himself and his wife? and he has a crew of guys that's specialized in? There's one guy and he is electrical and one guy is drywall and they have their specialists come here and do what they have to do. They are very prompt as well. I would definitely use them in the future too.

It went very well. The price was right, they were quick, and they just showed up on time. It was a great experience.

We spent around $500 on that work. We have used them several times and we think that they are very expensive for some work. They gave us a quote for some painting and they came in extremely high. We got a bid from another company we used and it came in as one third of the cost of them. They have done basic things that nobody else would do for us such as the unusual picture handing arrangement in the window and they were very creative about it.

Overall, the experience was excellent. There was something on the gutter that I didn't tell them about, and the employee found it and was able to fix it. I'm happy with their services and I would recommend them to others.

I thought that they were rather expensive, but the guy went out and got me a new lock and all. They charge $40 and then $135 just to come out. I would not consider them in the future because of the cost. I would check out another handyman first and see what they charge and compare, although I have to add that the guy did a good job.

They came and the timing was good. I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the work. They charged a site fee, which they waived once you use them which I find fair.

Mr. Handyman was very professional. The proposal was outside of our budget so that is why we did not go with them.

It was great. They fixed it cleaned up and did not leave a mess. They did exactly what they said they were going to do.

It was very easy to book the service; they are very polite and punctual. Angel arrived on time and I gave him a long list of repairs, ranging from electrical to carpentry. He made a list of supplies and went out to purchase them, then made most of the fixes and did a very nice job. He had to return the next day to stain the deck and did a great job on that, too. He cleans up the site when done. The price is very steep, but worth it if you have a long list of little jobs and don't want to call 5 different people.
