Richard B. from Mr Handyman Lincoln Park is amazing. A true craftsman who takes pride in his work. Took sloppy work done by the previous home owner and fixed everything up. Our back door didn't open properly because the wood stud frames weren't squared up. Richard removed the old doors, stabilized the frame, and installed the new doors so they open smoothly. Installed drywall on a ceiling section with random pipework, which took some cleverness! And fixed an even stair step.

Well overall, more expensive than quoted.

Thanks to Patrick who came out and put together a desk I had ordered that came in dozens of pieces. It certainly was a puzzle that looked impossible. Patrick was neat, efficient, friendly and put together that desk in no time! Thanks Patrick! We appreciate you!

Very good communication with mr. handyman, tech prompt and very professional. Only issue is that it seemed a bit on the expensive side for work done but non the less happy with the results.

Service was just okay. I expected a much more professional job for the price paid. The bill was $345 for two hours work with materials. I had asked about a second job in the bathroom, but they needed to purchase an additional part in order to do the work. I was still charged for the parts they purchased that were not used or left behind.

John was excellent. Extremely punctual. He was creative and strategic in putting up the wood panels and closet racks. We asked him if he had time to fix a few other items and he said yes. He was very honest with the work he completed and even the materials he purchased. John provided receipts and even discounted an item he was returning. We asked him questions if certain items should be fixed and he gave us honest recommendations if the items should be repaired or not. John is extremely professional, honest, reliable, and has extensive experience in everything. He does excellent work as well. I would definitely call him again.

I hired Mr Handyman to do a small repair on my rear porch. That was done competently, no more. A week or so later I contacted mr. Handyman with another small job. Hanging a single piece of drywall skim coating it. the response was that the same Workman who had on the job a week or so before claim the job would take a full day and would cost almost $1,000. it would have been much more professional for him to Simply say the job was too small for him to do. instead he chose to give an asinine response like that. stuff like that makes me want to do things like say leave a bad review on Angie's List. this guy is a handyman, a guy who happens to be good with a hammer and nail. he's not a master Carpenter, he's not someone who's hired or makes his living installing drywall. guys like they should keep their arrogance in check. Yes, they were small jobs, but small jobs make me decide who to hire on the larger ones. After this I will never hire mr. Handyman in Lincoln Park or elsewhere ever again. if he's that full of himself, how can I trust him to do any work of any size in my home? I can't.

The estimate is higher than I was given verbally, but they are working with me. Finally complete.

I loved the amount of detail that was used in making sure everything was at the right height. I wanted my pictures to be hung like in a gallery. It was spot on. The guy who came was friendly, professional, respectful and very trustworthy. I will be calling them to hang a light once it gets delivered.

Fine but one of the wall hangings fell down so I had to fix it myself.

They called me right away after putting in a request, and scheduled someone to come to my apartment within 3 days. Joe was awesome! on time, professional, and was serious about the job and getting it done quickly. I would and will hire Joe again.

I ran into a few problems with this service. The clock started as soon as the repairman walked into the door. After a 5 minute walk through of the repairs, it took him 25 minutes to get his tools from his truck (which he said was close). So 30 minutes into the service no work had been done. He couldn't replace the cabinet hinge because I didn't have the right hinge and it's not the type that could be picked up from home depot. Understandable. He caulked the shower door but couldn't warranty the work because there was a part he couldn't reach that needed to be replaced. Ummmm....okay. He didn't want to use the valve replacement kit that I bought because he didn't like the brand and wasn't familiar with it. If I wanted him to use that kit I would have to give him guidance. (????) So I had him use the kit he brought, assuming the 100% markup would hopefully save on time of him to fix it. It still took him two hours to fix it. Curiously, it also took him 15 minutes to "type his notes," which got him to 3 hours and 15 minutes, which allows him to charge me for 3 and a half hours since they round up to the nearest half hour. He also added at the end the toilet may have been making the noise it was because the water valve wasn't open all of the way. I ended up paying $545 for 1.5 of the jobs I needed done, and maybe had my flush valve replaced when it didn't need to be. The only reason I didn't give them straight Fs was that flush valve seems to work fine. Overall, I felt taken advantage of and ashamed for paying that much for that poor of service. I will not make that mistake again.

The work done was excellent. However, the communication with the office was not smooth. Multiple calls back and forth to get this confirmed and paid for. I wanted to use this service for another project but they never got back to me with a quote. It feels like the front office needs some help with organization.

Worker was excellent and created no unnecessary mess or issues. Problem came when his office gave us a total for services rendered, that was including a "service" fee of $40 that was never discussed. And no rationale for this added fee was given. So, I am to assume it is a charge given to every client. Which would mean that they should have told us when we first signed up for the service, that there would be an additional fee of $40 on top of the $164 first hour fee, and subsequent $52 every half-hour. Very bad customer service, because they clearly laid out the pricing on the phone when we first talked and left out, the "service" fee and that we would pay for parking. The worker had no additional information for me or to prove to me that this charge was apart of the original estimate because I never received a digital or hard copy estimate or receipt (after services rendered). Worker not at fault, I blame the office for no customer service or transparency...

Mr Handyman charged me for something I wasn't told about and it wasn't written in the agreement. I will always understand a mistake but I won’t accept Mr. Handyman not calling me saying they charged me more than they should have because I made a complaint with the technician when he presented me the invoice. The Technician José Albarran arrived on time but he needed to go shopping for new food waste disposal and toilet fill valve. I suggested he checked the shower before leave, but for my big surprise he said he had to get the Phillips-head screwdriver in the van to open the shower valve (what? really? I lent him one). I mentioned that there is an ACE five minutes walking distance from my place. He told me ACE doesn't have the parts (guess what: they have!). Home Depot is 15 minutes away by car. ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES LATER the guy arrived saying the traffic was bad and he would give me $25 discount for that (I thought he was being fair/nice), except that even considering a time of 15 min stop for shopping, Google Maps estimated time was 40 minutes shorter than that. Before hiring the service, they told me the costs would be $164 for the first hour; $52 for additional 30 minutes; $20 for the van. Nothing more. No extra fees. Based on these values plus the parts costs (Home Depot online $130) and the $25 discount, I was waiting for a $503 bill + $7 EXTRA FEE for "wire nuts, electronic tape, screws, and pipe dope" they have in the van, never mentioned on the phone but it is written in the agreement that I must pay for them. OK - payment of $510 top. I was charged $583 $164 for the first hour; + $208 additional (4x30 minutes); + $200 for “time” & materials; + $20 for the van; + $16 EXTRA FEE for parking; - $25 discount coupon (he wasn't being fair/nice, there was a discount in place already); Why should I pay for “time” & materials if they charged me additional 120 minutes, where 90 of them were for the time he was out? I requested the Home Depot receipt but "it was downstairs in the van" and when I received it I found out the parts cost $136. Why did they charge me $200? I’ve complained and have $88 refunded = $52 for additional 30 minutes (they took it from shopping time), $20 "for the materials you were not aware of" and $16 for the parking. Thanks for the refund, but if I had not paid attention, nothing would be done and I bet a lot of people let this “mistake” pass.
