Master Handymen

I have a 100 year old two flat that requires a lot of maintenance and almost nothing is standard. Gene and I went though all the jobs that were necessary and those that were on my wish list but didn't know when they would be completed. He gave me a detailed quote with prices for each item so I could decide which items were to be done. This allowed me to have more projects done than I thought I would be able to afford at the time. Master Handymen framed and installed a new exterior door. The old door frame was not standard and required a lot of carpentry to get it in. They were able to retain the original hardwood trim on the inside while the completed work looks great. They painted three rooms and repaired three plaster walls. They replaced broken foor tiles, fixed a broken kitchen cabinet and leaking drain. In one of the units an electrical switch box was loose, but they discovered that a previous owner had dangerously wired the furnace to a light switch. This required much more work than originally estimated to rewire the furnace, but Gene was more than fair about the cost and they fixed a serious fire hazard. I also wanted new exterior lights installed in the back of the house. They went above what I originally asked for by installing switches at two doorways and installing an extra outlet on my back porch for the same price we dicussed for one switch and one outlet. At some point a previous owner installed new windows, but not in all of the window frames. One in the rear of our house was still original but because the house settled the glass cracked and broke. We were going to have the window replaced until Gene said they could fix it for much less than installing a new one. The window frame must have been painted shut for 30 years. They freed the window, reconnected the internal weights and replaced the glass. It now works great and they saved the original hardwood trim that is one of the charms of such an old house. Last year I called Gene after our basement flooded. He had several of his guys at my house within 24 hours to clean out the basement and pull all the wet drywall and insulation. He gave me a very competative quote for the refinishing including working with me on what I could do myself to lower the cost. They were very easy to work with when changes were requested and would proactively check with us if they thought an alternate would work better than we had originally planned. After having them in my home on several occasions, I feel comfortable having them working in the home when we are not here. I've referred them to friends and will continue to so.

They did a good job and completed it as they said they would. Their price was very good.

have actually used this company a couple of times and will use them in the future as the need arises. Gene is extremely responsive -- we communicated 1005 via email which works well for me. The workers were on time, polite and professional. He charged me exactly what he quoted and was easy to schedule.

We are very happy to have found Gene Stingaciu of Master Handymen, from the first time he came to the house to look at the project he gave us a sense that he was very much a professional. After the contract was signed and the start date was chosen his crew showed every day on time. They kept us informed during the project and made sure to talk to us when decisions had to be made during the installation. They were also very creative with coming up with solutions, for example I had not thought about a trim tile for the one bath that so they bought a sample and asked us how we liked it and it was great it really gave a finished look to the new walls and tile. All the workers were very polite and did an excellent job of cleaning up and removing all the old materials.

Gene and his team at Master Handymen were extremely prompt and professional from the initial estimate to the completion of the job. They were sure to inform us of changes in the job before work started so there would be no surprises at the end. We went out-of-town while the work was being done and when we returned our floors looked better than they had even before the water damage. They also left our home spotless, with each piece of furniture moved back to its original location. They made a very stressful situation less stressful. We definitely plan to use Master Handymen again.

They did everything good. It took nine days for them to get back to me after I said that I want to get the work done by them. I think they were busy and did not have time to reply, but my interaction with them was very good. I would hire them. They did what they were supposed to do. I had no problems at all with the leaky windows. The only thing was that they initially had put cement in the area around my door on the outside and you are supposed to water that daily to make sure that it does not shrink. They did not tell me that. It ended up cracking. They came back and fixed it. They were punctual. I would use their service in the future too.

Excellent. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing help with handymen projects. My cabinets were installed quickly and very professionally. I couldn't have asked for better work. I will have them back in the future to do other projects.

The experience went very well. Omar and Rodrigo were very punctual and responsive. All of their work appeared to be thorough and of high quality, and they were both professional and personable. They performed a wide range of duties over the course of 8 hours. I wasn't super keen on spending the same hourly rate for time they had to pick up materials as when they were working, though I suppose this is the norm, and when they discounted the overall rate (10%off for Angie's List members), it made the overall value for high quality craftsmanship including parts and labor very fair. I was very satisfied with the work done and the cost, and will be calling on Gino's team for any future handyman repairs. A very nice touch is that Gino called after the work was done to make sure I was happy with everything. A class act operation, highly recommended.

My experience with Gino and his team was wonderful and I highly recommend them. The quality of work was very impressive and his team were very nice and professional. After each day, I came home to a clean house where lots of progress had been made. When delays (outside their control) came up, they were excellent at communicating and worked hard to perform the work in an expedited manor. I certainly look forward to working with Master Handymen again.

They have done a bunch of stuff for me. Everything was great with their last visit. I always use them and I would definitely recommend them. There is nothing that I dislike about them. I will absolutely use them in the future.

The project went extremely well. No problems were incurred by this crew in any way. They were punctual, professional, courteous, fast, and fun to have around. They went out of their way to make sure I was involved in every decision, making sure I was happy. They were kind to our home and furnishings, laying down paper, plastic and dust barriers. I have had many remodel projects done throughout the years and this was by far one of the smoothest and most pleasant. I do not have any complaints about their work at all. I will hire them again without hesitation. I also felt their price was very fair.

Gino was very responsive and helpful. Since my job was pretty much straight forward he was able to give me an estimate over the phone. The workman who came to repair and re-caulk the shower arrived on time and was extremely professional. He did a fantastic job and had suggestions regarding other items. I will definitely use them when the need arrives.

Gino came and gave an estimate for the job, we were ready to hire him, but had a few questions that I emailed him and never got a reply. Contacted hiom again a week later and he said he never got the email and resend it, which we did and still no reply...maybe he has bigger jobs lined up? A shame, as I have 2 rental properties and am looking for a good, responsive and trustworthy handyman for regular repair and care. Lack os reply is disappointing!

Because they did such excellent work on the bathroom project, we had them come back again to remodel the master bedroom, again for great price. In the bedroom they fixed a plaster wall, rebuilt a shelved wall closet, put up crown moulding, resurfaced and painted the ceiling, painted the walls, matching the old texture for one wall, painted newly installed doors, and installed chandelier lights. Gino and his crew were simply great! They were very accommodating in starting the projects when we wanted them to and also in working with our own daily schedules, and in finishing the projects very quickly. They were very careful to make as little a mess as possible, and always cleaned up everything each day. They did all their work carefully, and they made everything look great. We will definitely be using Gino again in the future, and we recommend him highly.

Within a day of my initial call, Gino had a guy come out and give me an estimate, then emailed a professional contract to me. Guys showed up at the appointed time the next week to start work. They asked questions along the way to make sure they were building exactly what we wanted and paid attention to detail. Work was completed in 2.5 days. Each night they cleaned up the work area. Very nice, honest and professional team. Excellent!

Gene came out to the house to give me an estimate for the work -- a good sign, since some of the other companies I contacted just gave me their estimate sight-unseen. Gene's proposal broke out the cost for each project individually -- another good sign, since there were some things on my list that didn't need to be done right away (and were more expensive than I'd hoped), so I was able to adjust my plans accordingly. And did I mention that he sent me his estimate less than 24 hours after his walk-through? All-in-all, a good first impression. He was able to schedule our job within a week's time, but it worked better for us to wait two weeks. On the day, the two guys who came out to do the job were a few minutes late, but not by much -- and Gene let me know that they might be. As soon as they arrived, they slipped off their shoes at the front door, and then asked me to show them where each of the projects were, confirming what needed to be done. They immediately got to work, each taking a different job. I left to run some errands, feeling like I was in good hands. When I returned, the guys were just wrapping up. One of the guys, Pepe, took me around and talked me through the projects, warning me not to use the sink or tub until the caulk had cured, and explaining the cause of the water-damaged drywall. He offered to paint the newly-patched areas as part of the repair, but I didn't have any matching paint on hand. Convinced that I was satisfied, they packed away their tools. On inspection, all of the work they did was excellent -- the caulk was smooth, clean, and professional; the drywall repairs were seamless and will be undetectable once they're painted. Another bonus: my house was cleaner than when they arrived. They were as meticulous in their clean-up as they were in their work. While the price might seem a little high, they were worth every penny. I will definitely use them again, and will recommend them to my friends.

Representative from the company came over on a Friday to go over our wish list of things we needed done on our 100 year old two flat. Received quote from them the same day. We came to an agreement on the work to be done. Their crew arrived right on time on a Saturday morning and stayed all day until all the work was done. They were respectful of our property and left work areas as clean as they found them. We are very happy with the quality of the work.

Gino and his team were fantastic! He was very responsive to our requests, we received the quote on time and the work was started immediately and finished on time. Gino's workers arrived on time each day and the clean up work they did at the end of each day was great. Gino called throughout the project to check our satisfaction. I would recommend Gino and his team for any project. And we will be calling his team back for more work on our house.

This company responded promptly to my call and showed up at the agreed upon time. They were nice enough people although not overly friendly. One positive thing is that I asked them for some advice on a job that was beyond their scope and they gave me a recommendation. The reason for the low grade is for the quality of their work, which to me, is about 90% of what they should be graded on. Within two weeks of them being here, the shower is once again leaking and one of the installations is coming undone. The workmanship is pretty appalling actually. This was not a hard job. I would not hire them again.

We have a fanastic experience with Master Handymen and after having had bad experiences with other vendors in the past we are definitely going to use his services again in the future. We have also had unit owners ask for his information for their own projects.

Master Handyman (MH) did a great job replacing drywall in our basement after a small flood earlier in the summer. Their estimate came in right around what our insurance company gave us for the work (we had not provided MH, or any of the other contractors we got estimates from, with that information). They were very accommodating to our special needs (pets that needed to be kept in one room while they worked in other, a child who needed quiet in the house for his naps, etc.). They were patient with and responsive to all of our questions and concerns and the work was completed quickly. They regularly updated us on their schedule and plans, and when considering some additional minor projects, they recommended cost-saving alternatives instead of the obvious but more expensive solutions. We recommend them highly and will use them again!

He was on time. He was knowledgeable and gave a reasonable estimate. He had a very professional assistant. He was responsive, and the quality of work was good. My overall experience with him was good.

This was one of the best experiences I've had with home improvement, maintenance or repair. Gino returned my call almost immediately, spent enough time on the phone to answer all of my questions, and told me that yes, he could probably get someone out there the same day. He requested that I email him my contact information, and said he'd call back shortly with a more accurate estimate of when a team could arrive. Again, he called back almost immediately, to say that would arrive at my house at about 1:00. Sure enough, two of his team members arrived at 1:00. The leader spoke perfect English, and not only fixed my downspout, but ran water through it to test it, and asked if there was anything else they could do to help. They cleaned out my gutter while they were at it. Attitude counts for a lot, and these guys were great. To top it all off, they finished the whole job in two hours and charged a very reasonable fee. I will absolutely use them again.

The first job of replacing the lock was said and done immediately upon my request. Gene gave me a reasonable estimate and finished the job within the hour that I called. My second job was more of a task, but he handled it equally as efficient. He sent Omar out the morning after I came back from Thanksgiving in Indianapolis to find my sump pump stopped working and water backing up into my utility room and hallway. Omar let me know what was wrong, what he needed to do and was back to finish the job in a timely manner. Gene called with a reasonable estimate and to ensure that I was okay with the price. Overall, a great job done in a timely and professional manner. I will always rely on Gene and his crew for all of my home repair work.

Gene has helped us out very well on many occasions, from emergencies, to lingering issues to upgrades, and has been able to prioritize according to our needs. He and his team do good work. For general handyman work, he does a great job!
