Lookswell Painting and Handyman Services

I have used them multiple times and recommended them to my neighbors as well. They are expensive, but they are worth the money. Their people are meticulous, careful, and they clean up after themselves. They have a 2-year warranty as well. The outdoor paint that they did was rusting through and they came back and redid it.

From the first time we met Jim on our initial estimate walkthrough, he and his company were phenomenal. We quoted the project to three contractors, and Jim's quote was right in the middle, but we selected him because he was knowledgeable and friendly. For every aspect of the project, Jim worked to make us happy with his work: he came out to help up pick colors (on a Saturday no less), he worked around our schedule (he slid us into his schedule while we were on vacation), and he came back with no questions asked for punchlist work. He even coordinated installing some quarter round for our kitchen and living room floors before the trim was painted, and texted us pictures of the completed rooms while we were on vacation! Everything was beautiful when the project was completed, and we have Jim and his crew to thank for this. We have used other painters prior to this project, and would never use anyone else but Jim and Lookswell. And don't let his city address fool you, he works in the western suburbs! Jim and Lookswell are A+ painters!

LooksWell was very easy to work with. They sent over an estimator the day after I first called them. It was in November, so he told me it was doubtful they would be able to do any exterior painting until the spring. He sent me the quote very quickly, and told me he would call if the we got a couple of warm days. Sure enough, a week later we had a freak warm up, and he called saying his painter could be there on Saturday morning. When Luis arrived on Saturday he did not have the paint or a ladder, which was a bit annoying since the estimator knew what was needed. He had to leave for an hour to get the supplies, but when he returned his work was careful, quick and clean. Even though he was painting on the outside, I noticed he made a point of sweeping up throughout the job. When he finished everything was caulked and painted just as I expected. The work looks terrific.

Very pleased with the service. Painters were professional, punctual, talented and organized. When job was complete every piece of furniture was put back in place and they even had my TV hooked up to cable ready to watch. I will definitly recommend and will use again when need arises.

Lookswell was extremely punctual and did high quality work. We asked them to paint our new condo after we closed on it and before we moved in. They committed to finishing the work by the date we requested. They assigned a team of painters and completed the work in just two days--a full two days before our deadline. Lookswell Painting was one of three estimates obtained from Angie's List. Jim was the most responsive to our request for an estimate and to other email correspondence about the job. He was the only one who offered to come prior to painting to help us pick colors which he did for several hours one weekend. We found him to be very knowledgable, friendly, and concerned about our satisfaction. The painters (his team) arrived when scheduled and did a good job with clean up. They had to return to paint a new garage door several weeks after the initial painting which was completed as discussed. The only two negatives would be cost (they were the most expensive of the three) and we would have liked to have had a little more notice about the start of the project (notified one day prior to start of services). Overall we are very satisfied with the work done and would recommend Jim and his team to others. The work comes with a two year guarantee.

Jim was great from start to finish. He was on time for the initial estimate and performed a thorough inspection of each room. Once the work began they kept my space very clean covering all the furniture, appliances, and floor surfaces. They even made some minor repairs to damaged areas of drywall and ceiling in a few rooms. Even though I did not like the color I had chosen in one room I'm very happy with Lookswell and would definitely use them again in the future. Jim even offered to come back and repaint the room I didn't like for cost. Customer satisfaction is definitely one of his top priorities.

It was a free quote. We liked the service. He was very personable and very knowledgeable. We just haven’t made our decision yet, and we are looking to get one more quote. We would probably consider using them.

Lookswell came out to do an estimate initially only to fix a poor drywall job done by the previous owner. They were very professional, and gave an accurate estimate (our actual work cost came out slightly lower than the estimate). The drywall work was very well done, and was handled quickly, without leaving a mess. Although we intended to paint ourselves, we ended up not having enough time, and had them come out to do a second estimate for the painting. Their estimate was reasonable, and due to their professionalism on their first visit, we didn't hesitate to hire them for the paint job. They arrived on time, were very professional in their painting, and the job looks awesome! I'm very happy with the paint job they did. While they were painting, some of the paint started bubbling in a weird way. They fixed it and made sure that the paint looked correct and didn't have any issues, and they did not charge us any extra for fixing the bubbling. They were very good about making sure we were happy with the work they did, and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

THEY DID THE UPSTAIRS ROOMS ON THAT MONDAY, I FELT COMFORABLE ENOUGH THAT I LEFT THEM ALONE WHILE I RAN SOME ERRANDS. THEY FINISHED THE UPSTAIRS PAINTING & LEFT FOR THE DAY. Lookswell gets my highest recommendation! They tackled a task that I thought would be way more expensive and way more involved. We needed our rusty, 60-some-year-old theater upright and marquee repainted. Jim took care of everything from the start and made sure that he got the job completed before the colder weather set in. He had to get a boom lift because it would have been too risky using ladders with the neon on the sign. The man assigned to the job, Victor, sanded down and cleaned away all the rust, primed it with rustoleum and painted the entire sign - all within a few days. Lookswell hurried on the project so that it would be completed in time for the weekend movie crowd to see. Incredible! The whole town is commenting on how beautiful it looks!!! Overall our experience was excellent from the initial estimate to the completion of the job. The painters showed up promptly everyday, all of our questions and concerns were addressed and final payment was not expected until we were completely satisfied. We weren't satisfied with the finished look of the stairs. The wood did not look treated and it did not match the rest of our hardwood floors. Every effort was made to satisfy us. We finally figured out that are floors were an oil based stain and the stairs were done with a water base. Lookswell then made some sample boards with different stains and dropped them off outside our door. They told us to live with the sample boards for a few days and then to decide which one we were happy with. We did as they asked and they came back and redid the stairs along with a few touchups that were needed on the walls. Again final payment was not even addressed until all of this work was done and we were satisfied. Our rooms, halls and stairs look fantastic and we would gladly have Lookswell back for any work we need in the future.

My husband and I have used Lookswell Painting, Inc for multiple painting projects, including dry wall install, repair and trim installation. We had several other estimates provided but ultimately chose Jim and his team over and over again for the following reasons. Jim and his partner Frank provide oversight of the project daily to obtain status and ensure accuracy. They are very easy to work and communicate with and don't have a harsh "I am the contractor and I know best attitude". If desired, they will fully explain the process and even provide you tips for maintenance. They may not be the lowest in price, but they are competitive. They don't take any shortcuts, will not rush through the job and will ensure 100% satisfaction for the pickiest homeowner (us!). The men on Jim's team are very consciousness of both the homeowner and the house and have extensive experience. They are flexible with scheduling and if needed will take the extra time to come back another day to review and fix any concerns you may have. And they are sure to clean up after themselves! With regards to their drywall work -- it was excellent. We laid out our expectations that we did not want to see any dry wall seams, no bubbles, and corners must be straight. Our expectations were met! We have had experience with other painting and drywall companies and highly recommend Lookswell Painting.

I received a bid from Lookswell Painting for painting service several weeks ago. The quote cost was around $4500. Lookswell was very professional, friendly, and easy to communicate with. I did not select Lookswell Painting as a vendor because I was able to get a quote that a little bit lower from another vendor.

Suggested eggshell but had other painters come through with estimates who highly recommended I not do eggshell - they said it would be shiny and there were other finishes (matte) that can be equally friendly to kids. Lookswell's price ended up being higher too. Estimator was nice but felt more like a factory and less like a painter who works for himself and takes great pride in his own company.

For any more painting jobs down the road, I will call Lookswell and suggest you do the same!

They did a fine job. The gentleman was very nice. His name was Jim. He did good work and I didn't have any complaints. They were good people. I didn't really get a bunch of estimates.

Jim Scanlan, co-owner of Lookswell and my primary point of contact, is personable and a straight-shooter. He visited my home and provided me with a written estimate within 48 hours. His crew was friendly, punctual, professional and tidy. They were willing and able to answer any questions that we had. They finished the entire job in about three days, arriving at 8am and leaving at 4pm each day. I am extremely satisfied with the services they provided and have plans to use them in the near future. From my first conversation with Jim, I knew I was getting a great company. He was accommodating and professional, and was willing to work with our tight schedule and our needs. Jim's staff was courteous, punctual and polite. Jim originally told me that the job would take 3-3.5 days, but they finished it in 2.5, which was great. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. Every room looks great and he called afterwards to let us know that if our movers scratched up anything, that he'd be happy to come back out for touch-ups, at no charge. I would definitely recommend Jim and Lookswell painting to anyone looking for a quality painting company at a fair price.

They did exactly what they said they would do. The doors were stripped down to the wood and they were re-stained and finished. The interior was varnished.
