I only have good things to say about Granite Design of IL. Bart returned all phone calls promptly and answered all questions in a courteous and professional manner. He helped guide me through the selection of slabs and was very helpful. Bart was a pleasure to work with. The crew was also kind, courteous and professional. I would not hesitate to use Granite Design of IL in future renovation.

I called for an estimate and Bart came the next day to measure and give me an estimate for the granite countertop. The price was very fair and the countertop was delivered a week later. The only negative aspect was that I did not receive any confirmation on when the counter was to be delivered and installed so I had to call the day of to confirm. Other than that, everything was great.

This was one of the best experiences we have had with a contractor in the 5 years we have spent slowly updating our 1890's victorian farmhouse. Bart responded to my initial call immediately and came over with samples of granite to choose from. Once we made our choice, we went to the warehouse he recommended to pick out our slabs. Bart returned to do the precise measurements and the countertops were installed in one day. His installation team was courteous, professional, and efficient. The plumber he recommended to install the new sink and disposal, Eric, was also wonderful. We ended up using him to replace our tile backsplash with new glass tiles as well. We could not be happier with the result and the transformation of our kitchen is incredible. Thank you Bart!

I contacted Bart and he came out to measure quickly and produced an estimate the very same day. He came back the next day to measure and brought a variety of samples. Bart was very knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations when asked for some advice. The installation was scheduled within a week. On the day of installation, his crew was very prompt, and the installation was completed in less time than originally estimated. The crew was polite and very considerate. The granite tops were beautiful, and I was very happy with the work. I plan on using them to install new countertops in another residential unit I own.

Bart's price was very good. We had the same quote from 1 year ago which was $500 higher. Only issue was the plumber he sub-contracted to didn't quite get the disposal on right and water leaked on the first day. That said, I called Bart and the plumber came over within the hour and now everything is great. Bart made recommendations (don't get black - shows all prints) advised on cost-efficient spending on the granite, and it looks terrific.

I am more than pleased with the granite counter top. I found Bart and his partner to be very professional and easy to do business with. The installers were top notch. The price is reasonable compared to other installers I contacted. This was one of the easiest home improvement projects I have ever done and it is due to Bart and his partner. They answered calls readily, responded to all questions professionally and just were real gentlemen. Angie's list said that this company did not service my town but that was not true. I took the chance and called and Bart said of course he would come to Flossmoor! Thank goodness he did because of the fine granite counter top I received.
Description of Work: Bart came out and measured my kitchen and provided me with an estimate. I agreed and he showed me several samples of granite and I chose St. Cecilia. I went to the warehouse in Addison and looked at the granite and within one week the counter top was installed. They removed my black granite sink which mounted on top of my old counter top and attached the sink under the granite which is a cleaner look. The installers removed my old counter top and installed the granite along with the sink ( not the plumbing) in less than two hours. The installers were excellent! They were neat and very courteous, The entire process took less than two weeks.

I purchased a home that had granite countertops in most of the kitchen except for one wall, where there was a desk. I decided I wanted to convert that area to more functional cabinets with a countertop. I contacted several granite installers, and Bart's quote from Granite Design of Illinois was by far the lowest, but I still needed to match the granite in the rest of my kitchen, so I could not decide on price alone. I drove to his warehouse, as well as other granite installers, and it turned out that his slab matched the best and was in better condition than some more expensive slabs, so the choice was easy. Bart was very professional and responded to my phone calls and emails very promptly. He was understanding when I had to delay the installation a few months due to cabinet installation issues. The installation went fine, though the installers were a bit late. I would definitely use Granite Design of Illinois again. They are proof that you don't need to pay a high price for high quality.

We had both bathrooms redone and based on our experience with Granite Design of IL on our kitchen countertops they were the only firm we called for the bathroom counter tops. We first visited the company's facility to pick out the granite. Once the vanities were installed, they came to do a first measurement and were back about a week later to install our counter tops. Given the staggered timing of our project, they were very flexible to work with and made two trips to our place to take measurements even though this was a relatively small job. They showed up for all appointments right on time, worked very quickly, and cleaned up after themselves. When I need granite again, these guys will be my first call. If you're thinking of buying pre-cut counter tops at a big box retailer, call these guys first and get a custom counter top and have it professionally installed for not too much more money.
Description of Work: Installed granite counter tops and undermount sinks for two 30 inch bathroom vanities. Granite is 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" thick - I can't remember for sure, but it's very substantial.

We found this company through Angie's List recommendations. I called, very quickly got a call back and set up an appointment that was conveniant. The price was great 1/2 of silestone estimate from another company and we have gotten great deals through them. So we upgraded materials for a cheaper price you can't go wrong. We got to pick out which slabs, Bart really took his time measuring. It looks great.

A salesman named Andy who claimed to be the owner came to my home once and then sent out his men to do the work within the time frame we agreed upon. Unfortunately, they cut the kitchen breakfast nook down way to small and never installed the oven section the right way. The granite then began to stain in a section and Andy claimed his counters are not under any warranty. To add insult to injury, the fireplace mantle was hung incorrectly with very little support other then glue and it came smashing down into pieces. Thank goodness no one was seriously injured. I am withholding my final payment until they repair the work. Andy stated it was probably my own fault since a cat of mine might have jumped on it and it would not be able to support more then a half a pound of weight. This really does not make me feel very safe about putting any pots or pans on my kitchen counter.

Response from Granite Design of Midwest
WE PLACED A LIEN ON THE MEMBER'S PROPERTY MORE THAN 8 MONTHS AGO. WE COMPLETED THE WORK CLOSE TO 1 YEAR AGO. THE BREAKFAST NOOK WAS CUT SHORT WHICH WE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THE MEMBER CLAIMED THAT ON THE SAME PIECE THERE WAS A STAIN. HOWEVER THAT WAS RESOLVED BECAUSE THE PIECE BY THE NOOK WAS REPLACED TOTALLY. WE INFORMED THEM NOT TO INSTALL THE FIRE MANTLE PIECE BECUASE IT WAS AN UNNECESSARY PIECE TO HAVE AND IT WAS VERY HEAVY FOR THEIR EXISTING MANTLE. THEY INSISTED ON HAVING THE PIECE AND UNDERSTOOD THAT THEY NEEDED TO BEEF UP THE SUPPORT OF THEIR EXISTING WOODEN MANTLE. WE ACTUALLY TALKED THEM DOWN TO DOING A SMALLER FIRE MANTLE PIECE THAN THEY ACTUALLY WANTED. THIS IS ALSO A PIECE THAT WE NEVER CHARGED THEM FOR BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT WOULD MAKE UP FOR THE INCONVENIENCE OF REPLACING THE BREAKFAST NOOK. AFTER THE JOB WAS COMPLETED WE COULD NOT GET A HOLD OF THE MEMBER FOR THE FINAL PAYMENT. FOR CLOSE TO THREE MONTHS THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED PHONE CALLS OR LETTERS. I CONTACTED ANGIE'S LIST ABOUT THIS BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME OUT. SO WE FILED A LIEN ON THEIR PROPERTY. AT FIRST WHEN OUR LAWYER CONTACTED THE MEMBER RESIDENCE THEY INSISTED THAT THEY ALREADY MADE THE FINAL PAYMENT AND THAT THEY CAN PROVE IT BY SENDING OVER A RECEIPT. 1 MONTH LATER THEY DID NOT SEND PROOF OF THE FINAL PAYMENT (WHICH THEY NEVER MADE) BUT BROUGHT UPON COMPLAINTS ABOUT OUR WORK. WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE. HONESTLY I BELIEVE THESE CLIENTS ARE HAVING FINANCIAL TROUBLES AND THEY THOUGHT THEY CAN SKIP ON OUR BILL AND WE WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WELL THEY WERE WRONG. I WISH THEM LUCK AND HOPE THAT THEY WILL GET OUT OF THEIR TROUBLES BUT I NEED TO GET PAID FOR MY WORK. I WISH ANGIE'S LIST COULD HAVE A HISTORY ON THE CLIENTS THAT THEY REFER BECAUSE I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANY TRADE TO DO WORK FOR THESE CLIENTS.

Bart was here twice to take measurements and help select the granite. I drove to the warehouse to select the actual slab. Bart was very professional and responsive - pricing was reasonable. The problem was with his work crew. They tracked mud through my living room and didn't wipe it up. I asked them to use the back door instead of the front door, but they proceeded to use the front door despite locking it twice. They turned on my Bose radio without asking me and left it on. They used the bathroom without asking and left the seat up. Finally, they used the top of my newborn's bottle sterilizer to catch water from a leaky faucet. When they left, the smell of the silicone was very strong - not good for a house with two little kids. A layer of dust covered four rooms as a result of the work. Despite all of this, the granite looks very nice.
Description of Work: Bart provided samples of granite to choose from and then sent us to the warehouse to select the granite. They took measurements, picked up the granite, cut it and installed it. They also installed a new sink, but did not connect the plumbing or the faucet. They dismantled the old countertop and sink, then hauled them away.

Bart was great. Very professional. He came out, brought samples and did a measurement. He emailed us a quote later that afternoon. It beat everyone's price. We then scheduled a time to go pick out our granite. A few days before the install date Bart came out and did the templating. For the install 4 guys showed up right on time and did a great job. It looks great! We also purchased an undermount sink from them which they installed with the countertop.

Granite Design has the best prices of any contractor I contacted and Bart offers incredible service. He took us through the whole process, answered questions by phone and email, advised about places to shop and exchanged the slab we have picked for another one since he thought the first one had cracks that should not be there. The installation team worked quickly and efficiently; when there was a slight problem they came immediately to fix it. They did a very good work. The plumber Bart recommended, Eric, was very good too.

Bart came out to the house to take initial measurements & show samples. Was on time and polite & personable--great to deal with. I then took a trip to one of the granite yards they deal with to select the stone. They were in Addison, IL & very helpful too. I recommend bringing a cabinet door or wood sample if you have one. Once the slab was selected Bart came back to the house to take final measurements. 40% of cost was due after the final measurements taken & remainder was due on the day of installation. Installation was scheduled for 1 week after he took final measurements. They were able to work around my schedule and fit me in on a Saturday morning. The arrived on time and were extremely neat (protected floors, carpets, etc) and cleaned up before they left. They were in by 9 and out by 12. Company does not hook up any plumbing but gave me a referral for someone and he was terrific too.

To provide an accurate estimate, Bart came to my home to measure my countertop area, check condition of the walls, and showed me granite samples. He was very helpful in suggesting colors and ways to save money. Within a couple hours, Bart called back with estimates, depending on what granite and edging I picked. Two days later, I went to the shop and looked at the different granite types to pick the best one for my kitchen. They were able to prepare the granite with the bevel edge in another few days and installed at a convenient time when I could be home. The 3 guys who installed the countertops were on time, professional, prepared and quick. Because I had chosen a small piece that would have to be cut in a way to have a "seam" at the sink, I was worried it would look bad. It was done so well, you can't even see the line of the seam. Great job to all from start to finish. I would definitely use this company again!
Description of Work: Granite Designs installed granite countertops for my 8 ft x 10 ft galley-style kitchen. One large piece for the 108 in. side, and 2 smaller 12 in. pieces (25.5 inch standard size with 4 inch backsplash). They cut the sink hole on site, and sealed the granite. The installation took 2 hours.

Granite Design of IL was by far the least expensive estimate we received. Bart was the most professional, considerate and creative contractor I have worked with. The experience was excellent. This is a team of real professionals. Bart was responsive and professional. He came out quickly and made detailed templates of my cabinets accurate to 1/16th of an inch. Then we were able to go to the granite suppliers warehouse to pick out our slab. We are glad we did, we actually went with a whole other color once we saw all the options there. It's not a warehouse specific to this installer, it's a warehouse that supplies lots of countertop companies so their selection is great. Once we selected our slab they tagged it and delivered it to Bart's shop. In 2 days the crew showed up to install the countertops. It took about 2 1/2 hours to complete. The process went very smoothly and they sealed the granite after they were installed. They look fantastic and I saved over $1500 vs. a quote for the same granite from another Angie's list 'A' rated company. I would highly recommend these guys.

I love the new countertops and sink. Bart was a real pleasure to work with. He provided the estimate and came back with another gentleman to measure. Because the walls were not straight they had to make a template to ensure a perfect fit. He suggested I go to the warehouse to pick out the slabs to ensure I would be happy with the quality of the slabs. This was an excellent idea as color variations exist with natural stone. He returned phone calls promptly, answered all my questions and even was able to refer a plumber (Eric) who did a great job as well. The Tricor sinks they sell are excellent in quality and very reasonably priced. They worked with my painters schedule to coordinate the countertop installation. (Counters needed to be installed before the kitchen was painted). Their price in relation to the quality of the granite and workmanship was excellent. I can barely see the seams and had to point them out to my husband.

We were very pleased. Bart visited a few times to give an estimate and take all the measurements. We also went to his facility to select materials and view slabs (a plus was being able to view our slab at his facility, instead of having to drive out to the far suburbs as is required with most counter places). Bart answered all of our questions, was courteous and respectful. His workers did the job quickly and cleaned up after themselves. We had previously met with several other companies to get estimates, and were not happy with any of them. Bart was much easier to work with and less expensive.

The entire process went extremely well. Bart and Andy were very prompt, polite and knowledgeable. We felt very comfortable hiring for this job. We had a complicated cut on our island, a pop-up downdraft vent slot (2" x 30"), the cut came out perfectly and the installers were able to easily align the granite over the vent hole. The installers cleaned up after themselves and were very quick.
