Description of Work: I called a technician as my air conditioner had stopped working. The technician, named Rick, came in, went right to the warranty papers, and said, you're out of warranty. I pointed to the box on top of the contract which says "Four Seasons NO LEMON GUARANTEE: If your central air compressor fails in the first 6 years Four Seasons will replace the entire unit for NO CHARGE." This extension of the manufacter's warranty had been circled at the time we bought the air conditoner. "I don't know why they circle that," he said. "We don't do that." He examined the entire AC and told me it was indeed the compressor, and pointed to a section on the back of the warranty/receipt, which says equipment must be cleaned, oiled and checked every year, by "any licensed dealer" and you must have the receipt, or the guarantee is void. I did not have all the receipts, but he took issue with those I had. He said the serviceman had written that he added freon. You are never supposed to add freon, he told me, you never ever add freon to an air conditioning unit. In order to do that, you would have to break into a closed system and then you would cause it to leak. If my compressor was not working, it was because the other technician had broken it. Not only, he said, would he have to have receipts, but the details of what had been done would have to be spelled out, otherwise he would consider that he could not know what had been done and the AC unit had not been properly maintained. RATHER THAN replace the entire unit FREE, he would be glad to sell me a new one. New ones would generally cost $3900, but he would give me $600 back if I had it installed in the next two days. Not only that, he would give me a 10-year warranty, provided only four seasons technicians serviced the AC unit. I pointed out the Four Seasons ad in Angie's magazine, listing a much lower price for the same brand of AC unit, and he said I didn't qualify for that price (the price he quoted to me was $1,000 higher than the ad in Angie's List) So, in my view, 1) he refused to honor the guarantee we paid for. 2) His story about the freon was untrue. 3) The original warranty and guarantee sheet does not say that the NO LEMON guarantee will only be honored if Four Seasons technicians, solely, have maintained the unit, nor that the receipt has to be written in a certain way to be acceptable; these are conditions he added on the spot. 4) The machine he installed failed after 5 years of service, why would I buy another one from him? 5) If he failed to honor his company's guarantee once, why would I think he would honor his guarantees or warranties for a new machine? 6) If his company has an ad in Angie's List offering a certain price, then a member of Angie's List should be eligible for that price. Otherwise, they should lose the privilege of running their ads in Angie's List. Not a single redeeming feature in the company or in their representative.
