They didn't really make appointments they just showed up. Both gates failed and they had to come back a year later. They couldn't speak English and they had to call the office for a translator.

After checking on Angie's List for various fencing companies, I saw that Faithful Fences had stellar reviews. So I called them for an estimate too. The actual owner came out to give me an estimate and was very friendly and professional. His estimate was much lower than any of the other highly reviewed companies here on Angie's list. Specifically, they were going to take more money off of my bill if I removed about 25 feet of an old fence myself ($200) but had I not, the total still would have been lower compared to other companies' estimates. The estimate was given on June 20th, and they were able to come and do the work before the July 4th weekend. This turnaround time was much quicker than any other company I called. I had about 81 feet of new fence put in plus a gate with all the hardware (hinges, handle). I paid $975 down and $975 when the work was complete. Because I mentioned Angie's List, they also nicely took $100 off the original quote of $2050. So, my total was only $1950. The best price I could find. This was for a 6 foot high wooden fence, one gate, and because part of the fence was going over concrete in order for the posts to go in they had to do 4 extra cement breaks. The employees worked hard all day and got it done in a very timely fashion. They even cut each individual plank of wood to give it the "dog eared" look that I wanted. What I also liked about Faithful Fences is that they were not going to charge me extra to haul away excavated dirt. They were super friendly, and I highly recommend Faithful Fences.
Description of Work: Jim, the owner not an employee, came out to give an estimate. Faithful Fences workers came out in a timely manner to complete the work. They were attentive to detail and asked me my preferences to make sure I was satisfied every step of the way. They put up a beautiful quality fence exactly the way I wanted it.

Aside from the fact their responsiveness needs improvement, I would give them an A. They custom built the fence to the landscape and it looks beautiful. The only problem is that they installed three gates. The mechanism on one of the side gates sticks. I called them to come out and fix it and they never did come back to fix it. Other than that, they did a great job.

Workmanship and quality are high, but they installed the fence a week or two later than we expected. They did not keep us up to date on progress, and their crew barely spoke English. Communication wasn't as good as I would have liked. I would use them again, though. Price was fair and reasonable, based on several other bids I received.

They did a great job. The fence looks great and the gate doesn't stick anymore. They are very reliable, fast, and conscientious.
Description of Work: They installed a cedar fence around our backyard last year. The gate was sticking so we recently called them to come out and fix it. They also put steal beams on the other side of the fence to protect it from cars hitting it which is why we were getting a new fence in the first place.

They tore down parts of a neighbor's fence that was ready to fall down and put in a new cedar fence joining with neighbor's fences and surrounding our house. Were initially very prompt, the work was scheduled quickly, and the quality was very good (looks great and is solid). A lot of small issues came up, but they were willing to fix them all (fence posts needed to be moved wider around the driveway, some work changed on a corner of the fence). It is solid and well built, but has a few quirks - The button to open the front gate is on the fence and not on the door, requiring almost two hands to open (1 + 1 foot works). The gates for the front entrance and the driveway are all metal reinforced so they should never sag, which they claim they are the only fence company in the area building them that way. It took a lot longer to get the guard rail quoted and installed on the basement entrance, at least a couple of weeks. When it was installed, it wasn't mounted where I had wanted it, but they moved that too without any issues, and now it too works and looks great. Most of my dealings were with Jim, an owner, and a couple of people over the phone. They all seemed to know a good deal about what was going on, and were polite and friendly, even when I was not so polite. Would definitely hire them again.

I arranged an estimate using email for a Saturday morning appointment with a company - confirmed by email from Alex. Friday evening when I came home from work there was a message on my machine that said to call them back they had questions (the message did NOT say the estimate was off). I called back but the office was closed. I left message for them to call me in the morning. On Saturday, 30 minutes after they were supposed to be at my home, I called them. Alex answered the phone. He had not listened to my message and said he wasn't coming. Ironically, a few weeks later I submitted an email request for an estimate to a company called Faithful Fences. The email response came from Alex and apparently Faithful Fences and the other company are the same company. I cancelled the estimate. But got an email estimate anyway (I had given my address and Jim C sent one) - maybe Alex and Jim don't communicate well with each other.
Description of Work: Wanted estimate to refurbish or replace my front porch and iron railings. Their estimate was about 30% higher than another Angie s list company.

The finished product is very nice. I have no complaints about the completed fence. Unfortunately, the company is too busy to care about customer service post install. There is some insect damage to one of the boards on the fence, and needless to say 3-4 months after the install this 15 minute fix still has not been addressed. I scheduled a couple of attempts to have them come out to repair the single board, but no one showed up every time. Not even a call to cancel. Didn't really apologize, just asked if I want to reschedule. One of the times I called they asked if I could come down to their warehouse to pick up the board and install it myself. After weeks of calling and scheduling no shows (at least 4-5 attempts), I gave up. The fence is beautiful and really good quality, but if you can wait until the off season, don't bother with trying to get any customer service after you've signed off on the work.

The overall experience was good. Jim was responsive up until I wanted him to come inspect the fence at completion, which apparently he did, but he failed to follow-up. The fence looks great from afar, but up close it has its flaws (mainly stray nails), which I suppose is to be expected. I still think the price was high and especially so since both of my neighbors ended up having Faithful install fences on the other sides of their respective yards.
Description of Work: Jim and Faithful installed my cedar fence last year. The price included the teardown and haul away of one side 60 ft. of chain link fence and one side of old cedar fence (60 ft.). The new fence was 6 ft. tall with one foot of square lattice at the top. The panel of the fence is cedar planks with no spacing. Two gates were installed one with extra width to the alley.

The estimate process went well. Jim was on time and showed his expertise in the options he offered for solving a few of the obstacles in my backyard/alley. He was low pressure, too. He wrote up the estimate within a few minutes. The price was so reasonable I signed the contract right there. I had received other estimates for the same job that were as high as $2600. I got a call about a week before to give me the install date. I took off work and waited and waited for the installers. I called the company twice - the first time the company told me the installers would come in the afternoon - the second time the company told me the installers weren't coming until the next day. Very frustrating. The installers were fast, hard working, very pleasant guys. They installed the posts. Three days later (to let the cement dry) they came back to finish the job. The cleanup was not so great. I had to hose down the alley, especially next to my neighbor's garage afterward. There was a lot of residue from the cement in the alley. Also, I had to sweep the sawdust, nails and empty nail gun plastic strips up after the second day of installation.
Description of Work: Had alley fence replaced with a gate (for pulling the car through) and service door. Also added a front gate. All fencing and gates are made out of cedar. The gate is steel framed.

Jim (one of the owners, I think), came a couple of days after we called him to provide an estimate. He said that they would take care of getting the permit as well. He gave us a couple of options (one more expensive than the other), and we opted for the more expensive one (5 ft fence with 1 ft lattice on top). His crew (Gus and Oscar) arrived a couple of weeks later (as Jim had promised). Gus and Oscar were most efficient and conscientious. It was apparent that they really cared for their workmanship and took pride in their work. Before they got started, I warned Jim that we needed to be extremely careful about the fence line on the boundary of the property, especially on one side where the neighbor was known to be quite cantankerous. Jim came by, and along with the neighbor (Jim with the survey of our property, and the neighbor with the survey of her property) measured and marked the boundary line to the neighbor's approval. Gus and Oscar built the fence along this boundary line. Unfortunately, after the fence had been installed, the neighbor made a strong claim that the original survey on my property was wrong. To expedite matters, I had another survey of my property done, and it validated my neighbor's claim - the fence was on her property by about 0.2 inches for about 70 feet and over by about 5 inches for about 25 feet. I asked Jim for an estimate for what it would cost to move the fence by the inches needed to bring it to within the property line, and his quote seemed very reasonable (he later let us know that he only charged us at cost because he felt that the neighbor should have made her objections known before the fence had been put up, and that she seemed to be doing things to make life more difficult for us). Once I gave them the go-ahead, Gus and Oscar took down the fence on one side, and moved it the few inches needed. This took them a couple of days more, but they made sure that they left things neat and tidy and that the neighbor would not have any reasons for further complaints. All along, Jim, Gus and Oscar were pleasant and professional. They made what could have been a difficult situation much easier to deal with.

The co-owner wrote on my contract that the cost of the fence would be $4000. After I told him that I was an Angie's List member, he changed the cost to $4100 and then deducted the $100 Angie's List discount. I was told that the installation would be started in two weeks. My down payment check was cashed shortly after I signed the contract. Five days after the contract signing I called the office to ask when I would receive my permit application. Seven days after I signed the contract I received my permit application in the mail. When I took the application to the appropriate permit office, I was told that the company was not licensed to work in my area. Several of my calls to the office were not returned, and once the person who answered the phone could not find the schedule book. Four weeks after I signed the contract, I was given an installation date. The day before the installation I called the office to inform the company about the style of fence I wanted--no one had asked!

Jim was prompt for the quote and the work was completed in a short time frame. Jim quoted the work we wanted (just replacing a post) and not telling us we needed a lot of additional work, as another company did. He explained the reason for the deterioration of the post -- the concrete holding the post ended a couple of inches below ground level and dirt filled in on top of it, leaving room for the post to rot. The cement should have been brought up a couple more inches to add years to the life of the post. His workmen then arrived within a few days and completed the work well and quickly. We spent $130 for work that would have cost us $250 or $920 (!) from other companies.

It went very well. The men worked steady and hard in rather warm weather, which made the digging that much more difficult. The finished product is great. I thought the price was quite reasonable. Plus, due to a cancellation, the workers were able to do the work the very next day after the estimate!
Description of Work: Our back fence, which was attached to the garage, along with the door leading to the alley, had rotted and collapsed. First, the owner came out, evaluated the situation, and gave us an estimate. The two workers from Faithful Fences arrived, on time, and after a few minutes of minor confusion concerning the specifics of the job, replaced the fence and door, which involved digging and re-cementing the main post deep in the ground.
