When I was having a lot of trouble with my 35-year-old garage door opener, the nice folks at Crystal Overhead Door, who had serviced it for maybe the last eight or 10 years, tried twice to resuscitate the whole assembly. I did purchase the Angie's List garage door checkup deal from them, and they got the door working then and on second service call. At that point, the technician said the opener would probably last a few months, but it needed to be replaced. When the door got stuck open and had to stay that way overnight--not a secure situation in my neighborhood--it was time. I purchased another Angie's List deal to get the opener replaced. Eric spelled out the differences among three opener models, and he assured me that the most economical one was high-quality, just without a lot of bells and whistles. Crystal Door was very responsive to my emergencies with the old opener, even talking me through trying to get it shut when it stuck open late at night. This is my go-to company for all garage door issues, and I recommend them to the other people in my condo association with whom I share the five-car garage.

Tom was prompt professional and efficient. he gave us advice on how to maintain the tracks and keep the rollers from creaking. I would definitely recommend him and ask for him next time when the other door needs replacing.

I liked that I was able to schedule an appointment via their website. I described the work required: garage door was no longer opening all the way, needed additional remote openers. I received confirmation within a couple of hours. On the day, the technician called me 35 mins prior to arrival to let me now when he would be there. The technician quickly identified the issue: one of the torsion springs was snapped, showed it to me. He explained it was ~$200 to replace one, but $300 to replace both (the idea being that since one broke, might as well replace them both since the other could be near it's end of life, too). It took 15 minutes to install new springs. The technician also reset the frequency for my existing remote opener and setup three new remote openers. That ran $120. I was surprised by how expensive this all was, the technician apologized and said someone was supposed to have called me to give me a heads up on expected costs for the work I had described in my initial request. Everything went well, but I am dinging them for not calling to discuss costs ahead of time and the (IMHO) high prices. Otherwise I can't say anything bad about them. I got what I wanted, it just cost more than I expected. I see other reviews here stating these guys installed entire garage openers for what I paid just to have a couple of springs replaced. I'm not an experienced garage owner, though, so maybe this is a normal, fair price for Chicago.

Tom was great! He explained everything in detail, identified a crack in a hinge and replaced it, told me what I needed to do to maintain the garage door setup. It was like night and day in comparison to the AR-BE service guy who took one look, told me I'd already turned the knob as far as it could go, and I needed a new motor. I strongly recommend Crystal Overhead and Tom to anyone needing work on their garage door.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They charged me more than what they advertised. The installation was wrong and it was crappy work. When I told them, they sent a mechanic again, and the garage door opener was not secure. He put it on a 2x4 and it was loose. They charged me $75 more to secure it. They were supposed to install that in the first place. We had discussed it originally when I paid them so I am not happy. I had to call them 2 or 3 times. I had to actually cut the chain. I should not have had to pay the extra $75 because the installation was included. They did come back to correct the work but I shouldn't have had to pay the additional $75 for them to come back. If I would get my money back, then they did a good job. The initial price was good but I ended up paying more money which I shouldn't have had to pay. A customer should not have to tell them how to fix something.

Crystal answered the phone right away, and scheduling was easy. They honored an Angie's List deal on a new garage door opener/motor. They were able to schedule the second visit easily. For the second visit, I could not be home-I actually unlocked my garage door and they came and installed everything while I was gone, then followed up with instructions on how to use and program and they set a code for me. They were timely, and when they were running late or caught in traffic, they called. My B ratings are because they parked in the driveway after I asked them not to (many people coming and going out of the garages on a regular basis), the opener does make a high pitched noise when it opens the door-which doesn't seem totally normal, and because they weren't able to fix it on the first visit, but overall I have recommended again and will continue to do so.

I have a long history with this company. they installed my garage opener originally, came back 2 years later to fix broken spring and now I asked them to return to fix the springs they installed which broke again. During my first installation they had to come back multiple times to get the installation right. Now they are repairing springs which failed after less than 2 years. They installed springs that were undersized for the heavy door. The quality of their billing is also quite poor. I was called about 2 years after the spring installation and asked to pay the invoice. Going back that far I was not sure if I had paid or not. I paid the invoice and the springs proceeded to fail a few months later. How ironic. They had me pay for the spring repair even after I discussed with them and they admitted the springs failed early but were out of the 1 year warranty. I would say this company has fairly poor quality. However, they are responsive and come back and fix their mistakes. Although I had to pay for the repairs for items that should have been done right the first time. My advice, is to find a different vendor who has done well on Angie's list. Otherwise, you may find yourself with a garage door opener that is installed improperly or fails far earlier than it should.

The technicians were very personable and expirianced. They knew what needed to be done and did it. (Mike and joel ). I talked with them and joked about stuff and had a fine expirience. The man that came to give the initial estimate (Tom ) was very knoledgeable and knew exactly what was needed to be done. Thanks Crystal!

It?s a $49.99 big deal purchase for garage door tune-up plus a 21 point safety inspection. It was in 2011. It was okay. He fixed it for awhile but then it went back to being the same way it was and we got it refix by somebody else and he actually did it right and I haven't had an issue with it since. I think we were having a problem with my garage door coming back up after it went down and also getting caught when it got up because there was a little bit of hinges in one side of the garage so he was suppose to adjust it and he does it for awhile and I think he loose it a little bit but it was okay for a while but then it started going back again like a month or so. I don?t know what the other guy did but he fixed it better. I know my husband will probably know because he was the one who watch them but he manage to get it and it didn?t happen since. I think he made some adjustment on the garage door holding itself. I did not deal with him that was my husband so I can?t really give you much on that side of it. I suppose he was fine. My husband always stayed around in case if they need anything and nothing unusual. Nothing what I can remember nothing specifically. I think my husband just assumed the garage is going bad again because it was a little bit not on itself but obviously work. It is obviously wasn?t thorough or didn?t take the time to really figure out what was wrong with the thing. I think it was one of the specials if I remember correctly and I think he just came out to do that. I think he just did the $50 work or whatever and that was it. The $50 was fine I guess for a month. If I had wanted something long-term fix I would pay a little bit more for it obviously so it was fine. No, I probably wouldn?t do him for a bigger job because I think he sort of treated the whole discount service badly. He didn?t take the opportunity to really try to win us over because otherwise my husband would have called them again but the fact that he didn?t call him again.

Moses called 30-45 minutes prior to my appointment time to confirm his appointment and arrival. He was very professional and informative. He completed the job very quickly and cleaned up after himself. It's only been a day since he completed the work, but my garage door worked well today. He assured if I encounter any problems, it would be taken care of. I would recommend Crystal Overhead Door to others who need prompt, efficient and economical service

Mike arrived on time as promised. He was very professional and highly skilled. The replacement of both springs and the associated cables was completed in a bit over one hour. After completion, he reviewed the work with me and gave me some tips on maintaining the operating system in good condition. We are very satisfied with the work. We highly recommend Mike.

We have used this service before when we purchased a tune up a couple of years ago and they were very good. We heard a snap when we tried to open the garage door this morning. It knocked one side off so we couldn't even open the door manually. We called Crystal Overhead Door company at 8am and they had someone out by 9am to repair. The technician, Moses, was knowledgeable and pleasant. He suggested a few improvements to our garage door to add extra safety since the door is pretty old. The entire process took about an hour and it is working fine now. We were very impressed at how quickly they responded. I would highly recommend this company based on our experience.

Polite and did a good job. the rep put down the wrong part needed on the work order, so they had to come back twice before job was done. They were very nice about it though and we're able to come back within 2 days.

Tom called 20 minutes before arrival and got here in the early half of the window that was originally given. He was upbeat, professional and very informative. He gave us options without over selling. The service was reasonably priced and took only about 30 minutes from arrival to receipt write up. Crystal Overhead Doors has been favorited in my profile!

They were great! Easy to schedule the service. Moises arrived on time and started working right away. He showed me the spring that had broken and pointed out that the other two were still good, but would need to be replaced probably sooner than later. So I just decided to go ahead and replace them too. I asked about a couple of other items I was concerned about and he assured me there was no need to change these at all. I liked that he was not trying to sell me unnecessary items! He programmed all 3 remote controls and the wall units. He even cut down 3 really long screws that were protruding from the door locks (no extra charge). Very nice guy overall! Later, I was having trouble pairing the door opener with my car's HomeLink so I called him for help. He told me I needed a "repeater" and that they could sell me one, but advised me to contact LiftMaster first to see about getting one from them since we may qualify to get it for free. Now that's customer service! Best part is: we qualified!
