Description of Work: They made two custome beautiful shower doors for our new bathrooms. They are 1/2 inch thick glass...beautifully made and installed. We also got Starfire glass and frameless. It looks as though there is not any glass and it is stunning. It showcases the beautiful white marble in our bathrooms.

Through a referral we went to BathWorks Design and had a design consultation. After that consultation we received general drawings and an construction estimate that was priced well give that included interior design services. We hired BathWorks Design and within two weeks had selected all our product and ordered. About four weeks later they started construction and the designer / project manager handled everything. We received daily updates and construction went very smooth. It took BathWorks just over four weeks to complete the construction and we love it! I highly recommend BathWorks to anyone who is looking for a speciality all in one design and build bathroom source.

Very good experience. Frank Batusic with Chicago Glass and Mirror (formerly Bathworks) came to the house shortly after I contacted the company to provide a free estimate on a shower door installation. Since we are planning to sell the home, he suggested a less expensive, framed shower door. However, we decided to go with a frameless shower door that was taller than he initially suggested. He was patient and professional while we decided on what would make the most sense for the space. The measurement and installation of the door went smoothly and it looks great! After receiving a few other estimates, we believe the price was fair and reasonable.

When asked to describe our goals for this guest bathroom renovation, we clearly and repeatedly stated that we wished to keep costs as low as possible, and only sought to perform a cosmetic renovation. We gave them a maximum budget of $7500 and after performing the entire master bathroom renovation ourselves, we knew this budget was easily feasible and should have had room left over for some bells and whistles. This renovation sought to replace the tile surround in the shower area, replace the floor tile, replace the toilet, install a new single sink vanity, and possibly also install a new medicine cabinet and vanity lighting. This is a very simply renovation project, and as a guest bathroom in an average lincoln park townhouse, the total square footage of the area to be renovated is about 50 sq. feet, so by pretty much any standards, a small project. Anyway, while we were a little hesitant to fork over $250 for the estimate, we had such a good experience with their shower doors we figured it would be worthwhile. Unfortunately, we were wrong. Following this $250 visit where measurements were taken and we had extensive conversations about our design and construction goals, we expected our next meeting at their showroom to produce detailed drawings with a sketch or two of what the renovated space would look like. We also expected that they would have some tiles picked out, suggestions for fixtures, and otherwise really have the ball rolling for us. Instead, all we were given at this meeting was a top view drawing of our current bathroom and the new bathroom. Of course, this drawing was completely unnecessary because this renovation was to be all cosmetic so nothing would be moved or changed from an architectural or structural point of view. The designer had also failed to have any cohesive design ideas ready so my wife and I found ourselves perusing the showroom trying to figure out everything for ourselves. Granted, the designer did realize what was going on and started to shadow us and offer suggestions of what he thought would look good together, but the suggestions felt forced and we were left wondering why exactly we were asked to spend our time at their showroom when no real progress had made on our quote. Before we left this meeting, we once again reiterated our request to have this job be performed at a reasonable budget, and the designer, seemingly sensing our brewing discontent, assured us that a detailed proposal with line item billing would be forthcoming shortly. A couple days later we did, in fact receive a detailed proposal but the work proposal topped out at over $10,000, didn't include a single fixture or design element, and still failed to propose any interior design scheme. Overall, this was a waste of $250 and we couldn't believe how a company that did outstanding work with one job, could miss the mark so severely with another job. Going forward, we would still consider them for simple glass work but will definitely not consider them for any renovation work. I think their renovation and design folks need to learn how to do a better job of maintaining a greater level of modesty with certain jobs and learning that not every renovation demands the highest end items and every new bell and whistle on the market.
Description of Work: After having a very nice experience with Bathworks aka Chicago Glass & Mirror earlier in the year for a custom shower door build and installation, we contacted them once again to obtain an estimate for a guest bathroom renovation. We were referred to Simon for the design and renovation estimate. After describing our project over the phone, they insisted upon payment of a $250.00 deposit to come to our house to evaluate the project and provide a more detailed estimate.

They were professional and pleasant to deal with. They offered us a variety of shower door options, both in terms of what glass to use and what hardware to use, in a range of price points. They were respectful of our request to avoid putting anything in our home that was made in China, and they helped us find a solution that was the right price, looked good, and didn't come from China. Overall, we really like them for this type of work.
Description of Work: Bathworks aka Chicago Glass & Mirror on Elston came in to help me complete a DIY master bathroom renovation. After a stock glass shower door and return panel did not properly fit, I asked Chicago Glass and Mirror to come in and give me a quote on a custom sliding glass shower door with return panel. Not only was their quote reasonable, but the doors we finished and delivered within just a couple of weeks and they did a very nice job. Overall, we were very happy with this work.

They were terrible because everything was really, really bad. They measured a very simple shower door 4 times and each time by a different person. First it was a sales person, some other person, a field manager and a store worker. They measured it 4 times and at the time of the installation they still got it wrong. They attempted to install the door 4 times and finally the 4th attempt they installed it and gave me a 90 days warranty and after 6 months the door just fell off. I tried to get with them to come in and fix it, but they refused to, so I ended using another company that did the installation and it was perfect. The initial price with they quoted was $1500 and after going back and forth with them because they did not do it right, they brought the price down to $1,000, but it was still just a waste of money.
Description of Work: I used Bathworks last year or the year before and they came out and did a shower door for me.

Response from Chicago Glass and Mirror
I would like to take the opportunity to inform the members of Angies List that there are major discrepancies with this memebers report. The member did purchase a shower enclosure back in May of 2008. The member's original price was 1180.00, which then was reduced to 835.00. Our warranty is one year from installation. The member had called us 2 years after installation asking for service which we are happy to do but there is a small service charge involved. We find it unfair to your members that at the time of installation it appears we had no issues, but because the client refused to pay a small service charge 2 years after our installation that the member would write a bad review. We do the best we can for our customers to make sure they are completely satisfied. In some instances we may need to fix a problem and if so we offer our customers a discount for their inconvenience. This is what we offered our customer at the time of installation. We continue to strive to give our customers the best products and customer service well beyond their installation.

They responded quickly to our call and sent someone out to measure and give us an estimate. When we said we wanted to go forward they sent someone else out to measure (this seemed a tad duplicative) and we discussed a bit more detail about the job. About three weeks later they installed the glass. Overall it went very smoothly.

They came in and did a custom measurement and about 8 days later everything was ready to be installed. Everything went great, the thing is that they came in later in the day and they realized that something wasn't measured properly so they committed to coming back the next day, and sure enough, they were back the next morning at 8:30. They had the installation done in about a half hour.

Bob came out to provide the estimate. I expected him to measure, but there is a set price for the type of glass and job. The procedure would be for someone else to come and measure, with installation one week later. I did not use Bathworks because I received a quote 20% lower from someone who came well recommended.

It went really well. The company representative was punctual when he came to give an estimate. He showed me the different alternatives and explained the advantages and disadvantages of each. The person who came to measure was also punctual, and he was thorough. The installation went without a hitch, and the new door is great.

I contacted a few shower door companies to quote on installing new doors. We couldn't do this project ourselves because the shower stall was neither plumb nor level. Bathworks was very responsive and prompt. I scheduled an in-home estimate appt within one week of calling. During the visit they provided a competitive quote, and told us the problems we faced in our shower stall would be easily overcome with their doors, since they manufacture. The day of the installation went smoothly. The installers found the problem to be even less level than they had been told, but they were able to move around other appts in order to do the complete installation that day. At the end of the installation, I was 90% satisfied. I called our salesperson and he was a pleasure to deal with. We traded pictures of the remaining issue, and we set up one more appt for additional installation. The installers came back out and addressed the cosmetic issue, and I am now 100% satisfied with our shower.

I'm incredibly happy with my experience with Bath Works. Steve came out for the initial estimate and was knowledgeable and professional. He provided a quote on time which was a bit higher than another quote I received but he immediately matched the company's price upon request. The installation crew were courteous and punctual and did great work. I was particularly impressed with their manager Mirabelle who handled a minor bump in the road incredibly well. Customer service like that is few and far between and it was obvious that they value their customers and want to do their best to make sure folks are happy. I wouldn't hesitate to use BathWorks again and unequivocally recommend them to anyone in need of custom shower glass installation.
