The service was prompt. The technician diagnosed the problem quickly. He was able to secure a replacement part and get it quickly. He kept us informed on the length of time needed and also explained what was needed succinctly.

I called Jan 27 and left my number with the receptionist. I got a call back within an hour, to set up an appointment. A few minutes later, I got another call, from a different technician for the same thing. However, the first guy I talked to told me that if I got a call from one of his co-workers, just let him know that I already spoke to someone. Anyhow, we set a time for the following Monday, between 1-3pm. On Monday, around 1:15pm, I got a call from Mario, letting me know he was still downtown and would be a little late. No big deal since I had another service person coming out at 2pm. Mario arrived right a 3pm. Prior to coming into the house, he started to take off his work boots. I told him that wasn't necessary, since I had to mop the floors later. He went right to work. Mario pushed several of the cycle buttons, in an attempted to get the dishwasher started, to no avail. He then opened it up and removed the bottom screen to see if there was some sort of blockage. Nothing. He then pulled the machine out from it's niche, to make sure everything was properly connected. Nothing wrong here. Next up, opening the control panel. Here, he found a fried out switch. Mario went out to his truck to get a new switch, and we were in business...or so we thought. After replacing the switch and putting the dishwasher back into place, it started up ok. A few more tries to be sure everything was working ok, but it was back to the same old thing. This time, Mario took a look at the computer motherboard. He attached some electrical diagnosic thingy, which told him the motherboard was DOA. He then called the office to get a price on a replacement part. After a few "OK's" and "Oh's", I got the bad news. My particular model had stopped being made in 2009 and there were no more parts! Oh well. For the cost of the part (about $180) and labor, I could get a new dishwasher. Besides, I'm sick of the stainless steel look. I also had Mario check out my washing machine. When washing heavy loads (jeans or coats) during the spin cycle, the machine would literally move 6 inches across the floor. A quick check with a level, showed the machine was unbalanced. A few minor adjustments and a test run and the machine was as good a new. Although the end price was a bit high, I appreciate the time Mario took to try and fix my dishwasher. He also gave me a few pointers on which brand to avoid when looking for a new machine. I would definately use Chicago Appliance again if/when the need arises.
Description of Work: My 7 year old Frigidare dishwasher wasn't getting the dishes clean, had a 1-2 minute delay starting up and left water in the bottom of the machine at the end of the cycle. Mario took apart the agitator to check for a blockage, replaced the eletrical switch and checked the computer motherboard. The problem was a fried computer. Unfortunately, Frigidare stopped making this particular model, so a new part was out of the question. Checked my washing machine, which liked to "dance" across the floor with heavy loads. The machine was unbalanced, which he was able to fix right up.

All went well. The technician was on-time, friendly, an offered some simple troubleshooting for another problem I was having with my washer. It was a relatively easy repair - just tightening some screws, so I felt that the price was out of line with the repair.
Description of Work: I heard thumping in my dryer. I called on a Sunday expecting to leave a voice mail. But an answering service answered, took down my problem, and a technician called back to schedule an appointment for Monday.

My dishwasher stopped working, and I scheduled an appointment. The technician was very prompt and professional. It turned out that the reason my dishwasher was not working is because the switch was turned off. The technician turned on the switch, and charged $65 for the visit.

Fast response, left my number with the receptionist and got a call back within 10 minutes and about 45 minutes later Rich was here doing the job. Straightforward, personable, informative and efficient - I am very satisfied with the service and appreciative that the response was so quick, especially so close to the holiday. The price was a little more than I expected, but perhaps not really more than anyone else would charge....and for the quick response, it was well worth it.

My stove and broiler worked fine, but the oven never kicked on. I called Chicago Appliance Company and the phone person said a tech would call back within a few minutes. Rich called back a few minutes later, and when i told him where I lived and what the problem was, he said he could be here within the hour, but would call when he was about 20 minutes away. He called when he was on his way. When he got here, he got right to business, knew exactly what the problem was, and fixed it. The whole experience was great. However, when asked how they charged, I didn't entirely understand the answer. Their trip charge is low (I think it's about $29), but after that it's "per job" to be determined on the spot (rather than per hour). I'm not sure if this is standard for appliance repair or not; I'm more used to hourly rates. The final invoice listed $190, but I would have liked to see it broken down into the trip charge, the labor, the part cost, and the Angie's List discount.

The experience was great. They communicated well - when they couldn't come over the same day, I got a call from the repairman explaining the situation. They clearly explained the problem. They did clean work and did not cause any damage or leave me with a mess! I would definately use them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: My washing machine began to leak and I called Chicago Appliance. They weren't able to come out until the next day but quickly diagnosed the problem as a damaged pump from a bra underwire. They had to get the specific pump for my machine but got the pump and fixed the machine in the same day. Two weeks later, my dryer stopped generating hot air. They were able to come out the same day and identified the problem as a dead thermostat. They replaced it that day.

It went better then I could have hoped. Lucky for me they had the fairly complicated part in the truck so it was a quick install. The tech was polite, clean, and effiecient. These guys are super!!
Description of Work: GE fridge went down with a full load of groceries. I called Chicago Appliance in the morning upon discovering the situation and they were able to get a technican out to our house in a couple hours. They installed a new main computer board and were in and out within an hour. I had called a couple other places but they were not able to schedule that day so I may have lost quite a bit of the contents if not for the promptness of Chicago App.

Called @ 8 am, 9:30 am, 10am, 10:30am, and again @ 11. While giving my information (and screaming a bit) to the answering service, the technician called me back. Apparently they were having trouble with their answering system relay. My complaints were heard, and the owner called me later to explain what happened and apologize. Anyway, Mario came out within the hour of our conversation--found the new problem--drain was clogged and repaired it within 60 min.

Mario came and looked at the leaky valve. He didn't have the replacement valve with him, so he came back a few hours later and repaired it. Offered to look at our broken dishwasher too, but we didn't want to void any warranties and the company we purchased it from was coming out the next day. Very nice to offer!

The repairman was very understanding about the situation. My tenant was the one he coordinated the visit with, and the company allowed me to be billed, despite not having any repair history with them. Also, I forgot to mention I was a member of Angie's list, and thought I blew my 10% discount. But the owner was kind enough to refund 10% of the repair after I paid the bill. I would recommend this company in the future and will use them for future repairs.
Description of Work: My 7 year old Sears refrigerator failed to make ice. Instead of calling Sears, I thought by calling an independent company would be less expensive. The job went fine and the ice maker was repaired quickly. I was disappointed in the price, but cannot say if it would have been more or less expensive if I had called Sears.

Great. Took a couple of hours to empty the freezer and get it taken care of, but they were fast and efficient and cleaned up afterward.
Description of Work: Our fridge was making all kinds of noise and frosting all the time. They were able to assess that the ice maker door kept staying open and allowing warm air into the freezer and creating ice all over the fan, making a huge amount of noise.

I called Chicago Appliance Co. to determine the possible cause for inadequate cooling in a GE refrigerator I owned at another location. Rich returned my call promptly and suggested a that I check to see if there was any frost buildup on the door or back of the refrigerator, providing his cell phone # for a return call. I called back a few days later with a model # and confirmation that there was considerable frost on the inside back wall of the freezer. He gave me a likely diagnosis and estimate of $300-$350. I made an appointment with him for the following week. He arrived on time, worked for two hours defrosting an enormous ice buildup and replacing the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost control. He was polite, professional and wasted absolutely no time taking care of the problem.

Turned out it was the heater (which dries up the humidity in the coil) that had gone bad, which prevented the coil from generating cold air into the fridge. Chi-Chi and David was able to come within two hours of my placing a call to them (they were already in the city), so I was lucky. They showed up equipped and knew what they were doing, in-n-out in 45 min. So far, so good (it's only been a few hours since the repair). Price was a bit steep (I consulted online for the part price), but I needed someone right away with a time constraint, so I took it as an opportunity cost. Asked for Angie's List discount and was factored into the final price.

The water dispenser on our refrigerator had stopped working. I guess GE parts are very expensive. I did a little research and apparently the GE washers aren't very good anyway! The service associate was super kind and flexible about time, not like the other companies who had poor follow through -we can't fit you in this week and next if you sit home and wait for us for 4 hours of which we'll be late or cancel anyway and did I mentioned I'm overpriced! I'm very happy with this company and our technician. I'll use them again if I need them! I forgot to ask for my angieslist.com discount of 10%, but it was only $59 anyway. Did I mention I called on Thursday and they came out the next day???
Description of Work: Mario or Marco? I think came and checked out my GE washer. He tested it and said it was the timer and recommended replacing the washer instead of getting it fixed due to the cost of a new timer.

I told them that my refrigerator was continually running and the temperature would not go below 67 degrees. They asked if there was ice buildup in the back of the ice box, which there was. Over the phone, the technician diagnosed the problem as a bad thermostat and possibly a bad computer board. He found a crew who had both items in their truck and arranged for them to call me for an appointment that same afternoon. The crew called before coming, arrived on schedule, worked efficiently to remove the ice build up (chipping and heating with hair dryers), replaced the computer board which was bad and the defrost thermostat which, thought still working, often go bad. The bill came in within the quoted price. They also did a good job reassembling the freezer drawer and cleaning up afterwards.
Description of Work: They did an "over the phone" diagnosis, gave me a quote and had a crew out within 4 hours to defrost the ice buildup, replace the defrost thermostat and computer board.

My washer was on the fritz and started smelling like death, and I wasn't sure if it was just a belt or a bigger problem. Mario was at my door within 3 hours of having placed the service call. The belt was broken, but it broke when the motor transmission failed. Mario told me I was better off buying a new washer instead of paying for the replacement parts, based on the age of the machine and price of the repairs. He was also very knowledgable about the different brands out there and shared recommendations based on what he was seeing in terms of newer washers that were requiring repair. Two weeks ago they also fixed a broken dryer in one of the buildings I manage. Their response was also same day, repaired quickly and competitively priced. I would not hesitate to use them again, each and every time I have an appliace problem. I very much appreciated his honesty and frank opinion on whether to repair or replace. This was the second time I have used them when they have told me I was better off replacing an aging piece of eqipment, rather than them doing the repairs. A lesser contractor would probably have done the repairs and charged me hundreds in the process. For $39 I got an honest and impartial assessment of the situation, recommendations on future purchases, and they will have any future business whenever I have another appliance problem.

The freezer was fine, but everything in the fridge spoiled within a matter of hours. I called them at 11:00 am, and they were out by 3:00 pm that same day. I had to get a new computer for my fridge and a new part for the freezer to properly defrost. It took him about two hours to do the work. He told me that there was a problem with the specific Amana product, but that it should function properly with the new computer. He was professional and thorough. I watched him the entire time, and the job was very tricky looking; he was careful and precise. He told me that the ice machine would be working within 24 hours, and it was. They responded very quickly and I thought that everything was done very well.

I contacted Chicago Appliance on a Saturday morning after I discovered my refrigerator/freezer had stopped cooling and left a message with their receptionist. Mario contacted me ten minutes later, as promised. He asked me to describe the problem, told me what he believed to be the most likely cause, gave me an estimate and told me he could be there in one hour. He arrived on time and was very pleasant and professional throughout. It turned out that the problem was not what he initially believed (I had provided incomplete information) but clearly explain which parts had worn out. He had these parts on hand, replaced them; it cost slightly less than the original estimate. The refrigerator has worked fine ever since.
