Had a problem with my fridge turning on and off a few times before finally kicking on. Fridge and freezer were working fine otherwise. Called for service and arranged a morning appointment window of 9-11am. They called and said that they would arrive at 9am. David the tech noticed that the fridge was running when he arrived. He checked to see that fridge and freezer were cold (they were) and said that it was probably my compressor going bad. Said the part would be $800 and suggested I buy a new fridge. I didn't think that was the problem and turned the t-stat of the fridge and freezer off. He said not to restart it too soon, so we left it for a 5 minutes. When we restarted it, it did as I had described and he said that it was a different problem...it was the Control Box and t-stat of the unit. He told me he'd call with a cost estimate and asked for the service charge payment. He called back and said parts and labor would push the cost to about $400, (part and labor less the service fee). The part was in stock and we arranged to have it repaired the next morning. Dave called in the afternoon and said there was an opening if I was home (I was). He brought another tech, Chi Chi, who helped install the part. They finished the installation in about 25 minutes, and even replaced the fridge bulb that blew while they were working. The fridge seems to be happy and working properly again, so I’m satisfied on that front. My only issue was that I looked up the part that they replaced and I found that the part cost they quoted was about $100 over MSRP (guess that’s the labor cost). However, I couldn’t determine the problem myself, nor could I have fixed the issue so it’s OK.
Description of Work: Assessment of problem ($69 Service Call fee, 15-20 minutes), Replacement of Control box of an Electrolux Side by side Fridge (installed 7 years ago...manufactured 9 years ago). They deducted the service call fee from the second bill. 25-30 minutes to install the part.

Company was prompt about coming out, in fact it was the next morning. The technician checked out our stove which is at least 30 years old+. He explained several things that the previous repairman (from a different company) did not fix. Also he explained that many parts may not be available in the future as the stove was getting on in years. All in all, very honest with us; very friendly. Definitely would use them again.

The technician helped diagnose 2 issues prior to coming out: an icemaker that wasn't producing ice and a very loud dryer. He was able to fix the ice maker issue over the phone but picked up a replacement for the service call in case it didn't work. He arrived on time and fixed the dryer issue as well as a discovered potential issue within an hour. There was guide plate assembly that was worn quite badly. He had all required parts in his truck. The service technician did an excellent job. My only minor complaint is the invoice wasn't filled out completely.
Description of Work: Troubleshoot and fix issue with ice maker. Turning it off and back on was sufficient to fix it. Troubleshoot and repair loud dryer. Necessary preventative maintence was also completed (replaced guide plate assembly) per my request.

Our tenant was able to pinpoint the location of the noise from the fridge. He said that he directed the service rep to the spot and that the rep took a look and appeared to put a shim in the area. That was the total extent of service performed on the fridge during the first service call. Apparently the shim didn't do it's job because the noise returned later that same day. The service rep made arrangements to return and make further adjustments to the fridge. When he did, unfortunately, he tripped something that he did not know how to repair and left after making arrangements for another service rep to return the following day. As it turns out, it was simply a circuit breaker on the fridge that needed to be flipped back into place. The information we were given about the dishwasher was that even though the unit was only three years old, the heading coil had turned white. Apparently this is an indication that is is no longer working. I asked if he could explain what was wrong with the rinse cycle he said he did not investigate that issue. When I asked why a dishwasher might break down so quickly, he suggested I invest in a higher quality product next time around. We opted not to have Chicago Appliance Service do any further work or investigation on the dishwasher and will instead consider alternatives. The service rep was friendly and made sure to check in with me rather than replacing the heating coil without my input. I originally posted a more negative review about our experience and the owner personally followed up with me to see what he could do to rectify the situation.
Description of Work: The new-ish (three years old) refrigerator and dishwasher in our rental unit were not working properly when a new tenant moved in. The fridge made a loud rattle and the dishwasher's rinse and dry cycles were not performing. I spoke to a service rep over the phone twice before making arrangements for him to schedule an appointment directly with the tenant. The fridge is now fixed, following three service calls. The dishwasher has not been fixed as it is likely cost prohibitive.

Unbelievable! I'm normally very skeptical when dealing with servicemen, but I couldn't be more pleased with the responsiveness, follow up, and quality of work they provided. I initially called to get an estimate and they said a serviceman would call me back in 15-20 minutes. Someone actually called me back in 5 minutes! After describing the problem someone came out 4 days later, figured out what was wrong, called me to let me know how much it was going to be, asked if I wanted them to go ahead and fix it, then they fixed it right there. The owner of the company even called me afterwards to make sure everythng went well. I will definitely use them again if I ever have another appliance problem.
Description of Work: Our tenants had an ice maker breakdown and water was leaking slowly onto the floor. It ended up being a faulty water supply hose. The serviceman replaced the hose and cleaned out the coils.

The technician, was even a little early and tried everything to fix it (if it was possible). It was not even, he understood our appliance was 7 years old, so paying $400, when I could get a new one for $500 was silly.
Description of Work: My dishwasher had an error message. They came to diagnose and maybe fix. Fixing it was more expensive than a new appliance (part wise). We choose not to fix it.

Chicago Applicance Company immediately acknowledged the inconvenicene of having an inoperable refrigerator and responded immediately to address my situation. The person who handled my call was pleasant, prompt and professional just like David. My experience from beginning to end was excellent. I will definitely keep them in my contact list for any future needs and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: After returning from grocery shopping at about 5pm on a Saturday, I discovered that my refrigerator was no longer cooling properly. I contacted Chicago Appliance Co and they informed me that they would call me back within 10 minutes to confirm if a service person was available for the same day. They promptly called me back and the service person, David, was at my door within 45 minutes on a Saturday evening. As a result, David determined that the main electrical board was not working & replaced it. Additionally, he cleaned the coils & replaced the freezer thermostat. The entire job was completed within an hour as David had all the required parts in his service truck.

Great. Free advice fixed the problem within 5 minutes
Description of Work: My dryer wouldn't turn on so I gave Chicago Appliance Service a call. Rich, the technician, called me back within 5 minutes. From my description he was able to deduce the original manufacturer of my Kenmore dryer and that the motor was the likely problem. He suggested a possible fix to try before replacing the motor or the dryer. My husband and I tried it while still on the phone, and it worked. It may be a temporary solution, but I was impressed.

Prompt service - called on Friday and was available on Saturday. Honest repairman. Our washing machine was too costly to repair - he recommended buying a new one instead of charging us for excessive labor and parts. Friendly, quick. Would definitely recommend.

These guys are great! Called on Sat.in the a.m. The lady who took the call said she would have a technician call me within 15 minutes. Sure enough he called within that time. He was just finishing a job only 10 minutes from my home. He was at my doorstep within 30 minutes. He collected all the diagnostic information over the phone so he could make an estimate of problem and how much it may cost us. He arrived when he said he would, showed and explained the problem and what he would do to fix it. Very professional and knows his stuff. This is the second time I have used this company and I will DEFINITELY use them again!!! Plus we got an Angie's List discount.....love that!!

Available for next day service. Called to let us know when they were on their way. Gave a reasonable estimate when they arrived, and completed the work quickly with parts already on hand in their truck. Note that you will pay for the service call whether or not you authorize them to go ahead with repairs. On the plus side, if they have to come back with parts you won't pay for another service call -- only parts and labor.

The repairman was on time and was able to fix the problem in less than an hour. It was the heating coils that needed to be replaced, and he checked the drum, vacuumed the inside and changed the part. The dryer works again which is awesome! He wouldn't take his shoes off, but told us it was a company policy. Normally we have workmen take their shoes off when coming in because they are usually dirty and we don't want the dirt in our house, but it was ok. I also thought the price was a bit high for what was done, but was thankful he came as soon as he could (next morning), and was able to fix it. Sometimes you have to have things fixed, and this was one of those times! Also thankful he took VISA!

I called the main number initially to set up an appointment and was given a time slot with a technician on a Saturday morning, which was more convenient for me. The tech called when he was about 15 mins away to give me a heads up, which I appreciated. On site, he dismantled the dryer and systematically tested each part that could have been causing the ignition failure. The last part he tested was a relay in the main circuit board. He had the part in the truck, so he replaced it on the spot. He made sure the dryer worked multiple times before he re-assembled it.
Description of Work: Dryer was working, but no longer heating. Technician tested all possible sources to see why the pilot wasn't lighting and ultimately found a failed relay in the system.

I called for dryer repair and they sent someone out the same day. He met with my tenant (it was her dryer) and called me with his recommendation that I purchase a new dryer instead of spending a few hundred to repair this one. He told me to get a gas dryer, because that is what was there. While he was there, she also asked him to look at her washer, which works but was making a funny noise. He told me that he had the same washer and the noise is normal. Now, on Angie's list it says free estimates. And when I called they did not mention a service call fee of any kind. So when he told me I had to pay $75 I was surprised and not pleased. We had a conversation about it, and he started getting a bit too defensive. I simply explained that they should be upfront with their costs when people call. So he had his boss call me back. The boss called me and explained that they charge service fees and that the free estimate only applies if you have work done. Totally reasonable, but that should have been made clear. He waived my fee for the misunderstanding which I appreciated very much. So I go out and shop for gas dryers the next day, finally choosing one and lugging it back to the apartment. We start disconnecting the old dryer only to discover that it is not gas, it is electric. So I had to return the dryer and exchange it and pay a restocking fee. I trusted the instructions that the repair man gave me over the phone, and am not sure why he gave me wrong information. Not the most smooth experience. I suggest that if you call this company you clarify their policies before they come out.
Description of Work: Came out for dryer repair. Serviceman did not do work. Told me that the motor was going to die and it was not worth fixing. Told me to purchase a new dryer.

I couldn't be more satisfied with the service provided by Chicago Appliance Co. and would use them again in the future. When I made the initial call, the woman informed me that a technician would contact me in 5-10 minutes. About a half hour later I received a call from Mario (timing was the only shortfall). He asked me to explain what was happening with my unit and then told me what he thought the problem was. He was able to get to my home the next morning and gave me a small 2-hour window for arrival time. Mario arrived in the last 5 minutes of the window, but was very apologetic for not getting there sooner. Once there, Mario brought the item he thought needed replacement. Turns out then entire transmission was shot and it was cheaper for me to just buy a new unit that would come with a warrantee. Mario was very apologetic that he couldn't help and even informed me of which manufacturers to avoid when purchasing a new machine. I would recommend Chicago Appliance Co. to family and friends and will trust them with my own appliance repairs in the future.
Description of Work: After explaining what was going on with my washer/dryer combo unit, the repairman arrived at my home prepared with the part that he thought was the problem. Unfortunately for me, it was a much larger issue and the unit could not be salvaged.

Our GE side-by-side refrigerator basically stopped working (actual temperatures 20+ degrees warmer than the set temperatures). When we finally realized this, we were in a bit of a panic because we no longer had any milk to give our one-year-old son. I found Chicago Appliance on Angie's List and called them at 6:45 AM. To my surprise, my call was taken by a real person. We got a call back within an hour (not the 5 or 10 minutes promised, but still pretty good) and we had a repairman on site within four hours of my call. He quickly diagnosed the problem and was straightforward about the reason and the fix. Demetrius was courteous, professional, and patient with both our questions and with manually using a blow dryer to unfreeze the defroster. The whole service cost $325, of which $225 was for the part and $100 for the labor. This was in line with another (Angie's LIst-recommended) repair company I called, but it still felt very steep.

My clothes dryer was not performing. We purchased the dryer (& washer) from the serviceman we had for 25 yrs+. He had since retired & we did not have any source or information on appliace repairs. Looked in Angies List & decided on Chgo Appliace Co. Called in the early am and connected with answering service who said she'd have the repairman call within 5 to 10 minutes. I thought "sure he will". The serviceman did call within 10 minutes and when my husband explained the problem rather than jumping at the chance to gain a new service call - Rick told my husband to clear the vent and restart the dryer to see if it improved the drying time - it didn't. Rick did provide a service call - determined the "coils" were bad - replaced them and confirmed that the dryer was otherwise in good shape. We were impressed with the promptness, courtesy and professionalism of the telephone representatives and the serviceman. Will definetely be using this company as our new applicance repair source. Great 1st experience! A++

I had an issue with a GE fridge not freezing/cooling. I had gone through the GE webite to personally troubleshoot and finally threw in the towel and called Chicago Appliance Company. I explained the course of actions I had performed to Rich, and he recommened I take off the back panel within the freezer to see if there was ice buildup there. I had already cleared off ice/frost on the front surface of the panel, but had not taken it off. When I took off the panel, it was caked in ice. I defrosted manually, cleaned, reassembled, and it is now 100% operational! Thanks to Rich, I save myself a ton of money... as the GE folks recommened I needed to replace the circuit board.I will use Rich for sure in the future should the need arise.

My freezer wasn't freezing so I called Chicago Appliance. I scheduled an appointment and Mario showed up on time. I described the problem and he opened the freezer and had an idea of the cause. He removed the cover in the freezer and said that there was a problem with the sealed system. It was going to be very expensive to repair, he recommended to buy a new fridge. He sounded very knowledgeable. I mentioned that I was Angie's list member and that I wanted to redeem the coupon. He said that the coupon was not applicable because he didn't fix the problem. This was the only thing I didn't like, the coupon is for any service and he provided a diagnosis service. They should clarify that the coupon doesn't apply for diagnostic service.

The freezer part of my refrigerator stopped working some time between last night and this morning. After checking reviews for a couple vendors on Angie's List, I decided to call Chicago Appliance Company. I called around 1pm and spoke with an answering service person who took down my contact information and said that one of the repairmen was going to call me back, which they did very shortly. The two repair persons were at my house before 3:30pm the same afternoon (they called to let me know that they were going to be able to come out the same day and then called again once they were on their way to my house). They were courteous and professional. They quickly diagnosed what the problem was, had the necessary replacement parts in their vehicle, and fixed the issue with my freezer. After they were done with the repairs, they put all the shelves with the contents of my freezer back where they were before. I was pleased with how quick and efficient the whole process was.
Description of Work: Chicago Appliance Company investigated the problem, took apart the freezer, moved the refrigerator away from the wall and cleaned the coils of the refrigerator and the floor behind it, replaced the mother board and the evaporator fan motor in the freezer and put the freezer back together.
