Description of Work: They have been wonderful the entire time I've been working with them. We were at their store for hours when I was determining what I wanted. Then a rep came to the house to measure everything and spend a lot of time with me and did the same when he came back to go over the contracts. The laborers that came to install the items so far have been wonderful as well--very professional and the work is outstanding. Since we had such a huge order, they have been out three times, all within the time frame I was quoted. The woman I dealt with on the phone has also been very professional and helpful. We are still expecting more work and I have no doubt everything will go as smoothly as it has gone thus far. I would highly recommend this company!

We visited their show room in Glenwood and the sales person showed us the options. At first we took what they suggested and got an estimate. Later we thought there should be a thermal break between the outside and inside, rather than continuous metal. When he inspected our garage door, we asked for that option. It didn't raise the price a lot. Our site required special rails due to heating ducts running along the garage ceiling. That also added a little to the price. The door was odered and installed about a week later. It took him all day to install it. We are happy with the results and it works fine. They were professional throughout.
Description of Work: Removed old garage door and tracks, re-hung garage door opener motor, installed new rails and springs, installed new insulated panel (with thermal break) garage door, covered existing wood frame at sides with aluminum, installed external seals, adjusted the optical sensors, and made sure all was working well. Prior to installation and giving an estimate, he inspected the existing setup and advised on color.

A Better Door & Winow Company exceeded my expectations in every way. Initially, I contacted the company to see what repairs could be done on my home's existing triple-trac Anderson windows, which were old and drafty, with storm windows that were very hard to raise and lower. I was told they'd be happy to send someone out to give me an estimate for the repair work, and that I could also consider the possibility of replacing the windows with new units. I had always dreamed of new windows, but assumed they would be prohibitively expensive, as there are 8 very large windows. The company's associate, Chuck, arrived promptly, and thoroughly assessed the repair work. I mentioned how I was unhappy with the existing windows, and Chuck told me that I could consider new coversion windows, that would be much more energy efficient and easier to open and clean. He offered to send me written quotes for both the repair work and the new windows. When the estimate arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the new windows would cost only around $4,000, installed (I expected it would be double that)! Today, Darren and his assistant installed the new windows, and I am thrilled. They were very professiojnal, efficient, neat, worked very diligently and washed each window after installation! The entire experience was great.

Tom arrived earlier than expected, was friendly, and was done and gone inside one hour. He left no messes and did a great job: my garage door can be raised and lowered with one finger.
Description of Work: Tom removed the old and broken garage door spring, and installed a new one. He had to do some light soldering, and some balancing of the door load on the new spring. He offered to adjust "springy-ness" of the door, which I declined.

The process went very well. A second problem developed. We had disconnected the door during that week's power failure. We couldn't get it reconnected to the garage door opener. When we called to report both problems, the office secretary walked us through the process of reconnecting the door, to try to avoid a service call. We still needed the door opener to be adjusted, so we requested the service call. We were told up front that the service call requires a one-hour fee, even if no problem exists. As promised, the technician phoned us early the next morning to give us a three-hour window of time. The technician, Tom, arrived as promised. He fixed the problem within one hour, so the fee was $90. Our garage door now remains closed when it reaches the ground.
Description of Work: Our garage door opener was not closing the door and leaving it down. We had to close and lock from the inside. A Better Door's serviceman came and adjusted the door, so that now it closes and stays closed.

The estimator arrived March 9, 2012 on time, took the measurements, and gave the price which included four new doors, along with framing. He ordered the materials and called us to set up the work when they became available. Ron was the installer. He arrived on time both days (April 4 and 5, 2012) and we could not have been more pleased with his work. Our house is 90 years old and not plumb, so Ron really had his work cut out for him. We will be contacting the firm to install 2 more interior doors and framing. P.S. We had also used this company to install new front and back doors and storm doors in January of 2011 and were very pleased with that work.
Description of Work: Four new interior doors and framing were installed over a two-day period.

There was a little snarle in the beginning with phone calls - cell phones. Part of it was somehow I missed the message on my old cell phone. They were very polite and responsive and would also call if they were going to be late or needed to reschedule. The salesman, Chuck Adams, was very knowledgeable and professional. Even though I had heard several salesman before, Chuck made sure I knew exactly what they would do and how they would do it. I had a big concern with the kitchen window because the walls were faux painted, and trying to touch up a faux paint job would be difficult. A previous company told me that they would replace the step-out kitchen bay with one window. Chuck and other companies told me not a good idea because they could get a better fit with 2 casements and a fixed as old buildings have settled, etc. I verified this with Andersen Windows direct. A Better Door buys direct from Andersen and installers are certified and trained by Andersen. That was another reason I went with them. Any problems down the road, I don't have to deal with a wholesaler or retailer first. As it's easier for the windows to be stained before installation (and a better job as one can get to all areas of the window), they had James Decorating stain the trim and windows at their warehouse because I asked if they could. I could have had the installation done in one day, but I worked with them so that one team did the work in 2 days. They really took their time to do a great job. There was just one small part at the top of the kitchen windows where the trim took a small part of the faux paint off, but not where it would be noticeable. When James Decorating came out to cover nail holes, etc., he fixed it perfectly. No other part of the walls, kitchen or bedroom, needed to be touched up. However, because the painter did such a great job, I had him patch where I took the bedroom window coverings off the wall and where rain made trails from not getting windows closed quickly during downpours. A Better Door did their job well and also cleaned up, laid mats down where needed. I wanted to keep some handles and arms because I still had 2 bedrooms with the old windows and might need parts so they removed the old arms from the windows before they took the old windows. Then the installer, Darin, replaced the old arm in one of my other bedrooms because it broke the day before they were coming. Then as luck would have it, I was rolling out the window in my office and that arm broke. When Darin came the next day to finish the installation, he fixed that window! What a guy! As I watched him, I knew I wouldn't have been able to do it without breaking the trim or something. I love my new windows and the great job that A Better Door performed. I definitely would use them again.
Description of Work: Windows are a big expense, and need expert installation so that there are no problems. I've built 2 homes, and remodeled 2 plus family in the trades so I have some background. I was replacing a step-out kitchen bay and my master bedroom windows, broken seals, rollout arms (casement windows). They had served well for over 25 years. I had to stick with wood as I was not replacing all the windows in my condo, and they needed to match. I decided to go with Andersen windows as that is what I was replacing and would match what I presently have. Marvin is a good window, but the interior look wouldn't match, and the outside color wouldn't be as close a match. I received comments to stay away from the Pella entry line. Getting estimates takes work, and I always start out with the intention of getting just 3, but I learn different things as I go along. Ended up getting 6 estimates, and narrow it down by professionalism, trust, knowledge, and price. Most companies do not include the staining plus A Better Door will allow you to get the permit on your own to save some money. I took this into consideration when I compared prices so I was comparing apples to apples. The above price does not include the staining nor the cost of the building permit I needed. They recommended an excellent painter, James Nielsen of James Decorating, Inc. When combining all costs, they were not the lowest nor the most expensive, but a fair price that I could trust the work would be done as contracted.

The estimate was precise and the final cost did not go up. The installers showed up when scheduled. They were very respectful of personal property and worked in a very professional manner. They took their time making sure everything fit and worked properly. The finish work on the trim was very precise. They were very neat and always cleaned up after them selves. We are very satisfied with the final result and the new windows make a world of difference. I am allittle disappointed that they still use fiberglass insulation around the frame rather than low expanding foam. There was a slight issue with the outside trim of one of the octagon windows, more due to the poor quality of home construction, but they did resolve to my satisfaction. Part of the price was to bring a "subcontractor" in to do any drywall work that needed to be done. I would rather see the option of a choice for a discount because I ended up redoing the work myself. We had 3 windows replaced by them the year before and the review would be the same.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced kitchen and dinning room casement windows and 2 bathroom octagon windows. The outside was clad in vinyl. The inside oak trim was replaced.

Springs were replaced with a better grade spring good for 80,000 cycles. Previous springs were shown to be substandard and undersized for my door. Technician had the proper materials, cut them to size onsite. Door work great so far!
Description of Work: Had broken springs on garage door. Explained to me that my previous springs installed by another company were substandard and undersized for my garage door. Gave me the option of good, better, best springs, I went with middle cost springs. After 6 months, no problems. Door works great.

Since the window that we settled on was a little smaller than our existing rough opening, the installer had to frame out the existing opening. They intalled, leveled and plumbed the window in a very professional manner. We were very satified with the end result.
Description of Work: We had a Recreation Room window replaced. The old one was very leaky and drafty. The techs arrived on time. They were very professional, clean and polite. Since we ourselves are remodelers (we don't install windows though), we know that a certain amount of mess is inevitable. These installers kept the mess to a minimum and cleaned up after themselves. The new window is very nice and I do not detect any more leaks. They framed, capped and caulked the window on the outside very well. The inside is now feels snug and warm and we have no more leaks. I would highly recommed this company.

They were absolutely incredible. Everything was so clean every day. The people who do their interior wood are real craftsmen. The detail work on the wood was just fantastic. We weren't here part of the time but felt comfortable giving them the key and they made sure that our cats didn't get out. They were very pet friendly.

The work with the door went very well - they did a very good job. I had gone to another company originally, and they were absolutely no help. Somebody recommended A Better Door & Window to me. I had them come out and give me a quote, which was reasonable considering what I had gotten from the other company. Their price of about $800 was fair, and so was their responsiveness. I had them come out and quote for a glass block bathroom window in November, but this was way overpriced at $1800. I did not think that it was a realistic quote, so I did not go with them. Honestly, I was very shocked at the price considering that they were more than two-thirds higher than anybody else. I felt like they did not want to do that kind of business, and so they had priced it high on purpose. I may use them in the future but that would depend on what the work is going to be.
Description of Work: I used A Better Door & Window to replace an exterior door about six years ago and also got an estimate for a glass block window last November.

My garage door got stuck halfway up. In trying to get the door back down, my daughter and I tried to force it and the door not only came off the track but was hanging at an angle and totally disconnected from the garage at the top. I had heard about A Better Door & Window through a work acquaintance. I called late Friday afternoon and spoke to a lovely young lady named Amy. She told me someone would be at my house between 11 and 2 the next day. Jimmy called just before 11 and was at my home by 11:30. Within a half hour he not only had the garge door back up but got my garage door opener running. He was very pleasant to deal with, very professional and very efficient.
Description of Work: Got door down to floor and replaced hinge rollers, straightened right side track, cut and rebolted opener arm and adjusted up and down limits. Lubed door and checked all operations.

HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL. THE TECHNICIAN WAS DISPATCHED IMMEDIATELY. THE SERVICE CHARGES WERE EXPLAINED UP FRONT. THE TECHNICIAN WAS HONEST. A SMALL NET IN THE CORNER OF THE GARAGE WAS BLOCKING THE LASER BEAM, WHICH PREVENTED DOOR FROM CLOSING. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, BUT I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR THE TRIP.
Description of Work: THE GARAGE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE DOWN. THE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT TO DIAGNOSE THE REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. AS IT TURNS OUT, THE EDGE OF A NET WAS BLOCKING A SAFETY MECHANISM. ONCE THE NET WAS REMOVED, THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS.
