Made appt.for estimate through Costco. Estimator/Sales arrived as scheduled, spent 1.5 hrs with me walking through the job and preparing the estimate. When my wife arrived just as he was wrapping up, he spent another hour with her going over everything a second time - great customer service. We set appointment for day after Thanksgiving, and they arrived first thing in the AM, right on time. Two techs spent the whole day, and a third was there on and off; they had the installation complete by 5:30 PM, and then spent an additional .5 hr with us going over everything. Job well done, and they actually left the basement cleaner than they found it. The only glitch was that the electronic air cleaner we spec'd was OOS, but they boxed out for it, and slipped it in in .5 hr when they received a week later. They scheduled a follow up visit about 2 weeks later with my wife, to make sure we were satisfied with everything. So far everything, from start to finish, has been very satisfactory. We haven't had to use the AC yet, but getting rid of the window-shakers will be a welcome improvement, and we don't anticipate any problems.

It was a big job. I had some concerns initially. They responded but it took a while. What I have realized is that because we have a high-end system, we have to have people that have worked with it. So after having problems every year, I got the guy that knows how to do it. I am all set and good to go. The fellow that came out and analyzed the situation was very good. The installers left much to be desired. They had to come out and change it several times. The initial install was less than what I was led to believe would occur. They were very nice and all that. Once things got going, they sent out guys that were sweet as can be. I had a look at the instruction manual for the sophisticated control system. I didn?t quite know where the controls were. The humidifier was a high-end one, and so it didn?t work like the other one. Once I got the guy that knew everything, then it was good. I would say that people that go for the mid-range system would probably not have any problem. When they go for the high-end system, the only problem is that they have to make sure they get a person who has really worked with it and knows what he is doing. I got a couple of bids, and they might be a little on the high side. The equipment is very good. They were very responsive, especially since I have the email and cell phone of one of their key people. If I go through the front office, it?s kind of a joke. Once you know the right people to call, it?s super responsive. I had people coming out that were not familiar with the high-end system, and as a result it took some time before I got somebody who was knowledgeable. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used The Air Conditioning and Heating Company about two years ago, and I had the whole system redone with their high-end filtration system, the air conditioner, two-stage furnace, damper system and all the controls. Their last visit was for maintenance work.

Our experience with this company was wonderful. We found that they were a Pemier Lennox dealer from the Lennox website. We had had several other companies selling all makes of equipment(Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Amana, Rheem, Trane) out to our home before making a decision. We actually had a plus/minus spreadsheet going to help us narrow down our choices based on many factors. We met with Chris Nichols, our "Comfort Advisor," and he spent about 30-40 minutes with us, measuring the space as it's a very tight closet, listening to our requirements, taking pictures and telling us about the company. He then asked if when we would like to meet with him again which after having had about 5 quotes from other companies where they were all finished within an hour, same day, we thought was rather strange. He left us with some information about the company and brochures on the Lennox products and returned the next day with a folder for us. Inside the folder we found the pictures of our utility closet with current furnace and water heater. He had drawn on the photos exactly what work they intened to do and how the installers would make it all happen. Also in the folder were 4 packets of printed information, each detailing a specific option that could work for us. One of the drawings was of blocks that Chris intended to use to raise the furnace slightly off the floor. He said that it would make the unit quieter and allow some room for water to get to the drain in the event we ever had a leak/flood/drain backup without ruining the furnace. A few month later our upstairs neighbors toilet overflowed and we were thankful for this thoughtful feature as water rained into our hallway and utility closet. One of the items they offered was a MVP Advantage package, basically a service contract for 1 or more years. We selected the 1 year package at a very reasonable cost which also entitled us to a 10% discount on all of the equipment, which immediately more than paid for itself. We also wrote a check for our services which was good for another 5% cash discount. On the install day, Chris and 3 installers arrived at our condo at the agreed upon time. Chris introduced us to each of the installers and included names, certifications and years with the company. The installers began with their copy of the photos and specific notes about our concerns regarding the install process that had been made during our first two meetings with Chris. Chris sat down with us once more to go over the paperwork and answer any additional questions and provided us with our copy of all the paperwork needed for our records as well as a copy of all the paperwork needed to demonstrate that we had qualified for the tax credit. He also set up a time for their quality control inspector to come verify that the install job was done correctly. After the installers had completed their jobs they notified us that they floor drain was clogged and were then on their way. The rooter guy told us the drain was jammed with pet hair from the previous owners and not related to the install at all. A few days later the quality control inspector from the company arrived for his appointment and agreed that the install had been completed satisfactorily. In the spring we received another call from the company to come out put the refrigerant into the condenser outside as it had been too cold when the system was installed in December. The A/C was started up with no issues. Both the Furnace and A/C have been functioning perfectly and we are very happy with our experience with THE Air Conditioning and Heating Company, Inc.

There was no problem that he could fix because this issue was NOT related to HVAC. It was instead due to a plumbing leak. Nevertheless, I did not appreciate the sales tactics used to try to get me to buy a contract for continued on-going services. He was proffesional, but its like, just do the job, don't try to sell me all this extra c*** I don't want. He was just doing his job per his superiors ... Futhermore, the service contracts that the company wanted to sell me I thought were a total waste and scam. Like paying alot more cause you wanted to have your AC done in Spring and your heating service done in Nov.
Description of Work: Tenant reported water leaking out of an April Air humidifier. I contacted AC and Heating CO cause they had after hours service available at regular service hour prices. He inspected the humidifier and informed me that it was a plumbing leak, no prob with the humidifier. Informed me to turn off my furnace and breakers to prevent damage due to leakage.

They were well-rated on Angie?s List, and they did a good job for us. Two of my neighbors used them and they gave me the same referral when I asked them for who they used. We called them and they were here in 15 minutes. Instead of saying that they were charging for the service call, the person who came out actually ended up writing it up two different ways: one, charging me for the service call and the work that he did, and the other, giving me a one-year maintenance agreement whereby they would come out and check the furnace in the fall and the air conditioner in the spring. They also gave us 24-hour priority service. The benefits of the agreement included no trip or fuel charges ever, 20% discount on service and labor, 10% discount on major equipment and accessories, and so we upgraded our system to get a 10% discount on that. The maintenance agreement was good for two more calls in addition to giving me a discount on my service call that they came out for. It actually came up $4 cheaper and he showed me the breakdown in the prices. Without the agreement, they would have charged me for the visit plus the part plus the hourly rate. He even took the time to not go into details but to explain that there was a tax benefit for upgrading to a better efficiency system. He was willing to put me on to the sales person to fill me up on further information. I didn?t feel like I was being up-sold because the numbers were very clear. I have referred them to other people.
Description of Work: We had a problem with our air conditioner because the condenser kept freezing up. The person who came out from The Air Conditioning & Heating Co. had to troubleshoot a couple of other things first and had to look at a couple of other places to figure things out. He got downstairs and looked at the back of the air conditioner - it really was nothing more than sediment that had clogged in the condenser tube. The water was not coming out of the condenser and it was just flooding onto the floor of the basement. All he had to do was pull off the tube, stick a screwdriver in it, clean out the inside and put the tube back on. We also signed up a one-year maintenance agreement with them.

During a home inspection (future buyer of our home), a small leak (gas) was noticed by the inspector. NICOR was called at 7 pm and came to our home. They could not fix the issue and had to shut off our gas supply. I called THE AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING CO at 9 pm to get an emergency service call. I described the problem and was told the fastest they could come out was 1 pm the next day. At 9:30 am I got a call from THE AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING CO and was told they could come out by 10:30 am. It took roughly 60 minutes to correct the problem. All is working fine now. Only negative was the the repair man came in with mud on his shoes- when I pointed it out he put down covering, but upon clean up there was still mud left in our basement and kitchen.
Description of Work: A small gas leak that required NICOR to shut off our gas. THE AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING CO was called to correct the leak and turn the gas (heat and water heater) back on.

Jeff Jones was an excellent and efficient serviceman. He made sure I was fully satisfied as I had a previous problem with one of their servicemen. He told me the company weeded out anyone they thought to be unprofessional and went above and beyond in servicing my humidifier for free, as he felt the previous serviceman did not do a correct job. I also purchased my heating and A/C system from this company and was satisfied with the units and installations. I also recommended them to my cousin in the past.

THEIR WARRANTY SAYS 10 YEAR PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY. THEY CLAIM THAT THEIR SERVICE IS AVAILABLE 24/7, BUT WHEN I CALLED THEM AFTER 5:30 THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME MONEY BECAUSE IT'S OUTSIDE REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS. THEY CHARGED ME $159 BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVING THE ANNUAL CLEANING SERVICE, AND IT DOESN'T SPECIFY THAT I NEED THAT IN THE CONTRACT AND THEIR SALES PERSON SAID IT WAS OPTIONAL. NOW I WANT TO CANCEL THE WARRANTY AND THEIR PRO RATED FIGURES DON'T MATCH UP WITH MINE AND THEY'RE SHORTING ME $700 ON THE REFUND. THEY'RE ALSO ARE TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE MONEY THROUGH THE MANUFACTURER.

Response from AWE Air Water Energy
We have sent a letter to the member on June 25, 2006 stating we are going to credit the prorated amount of the contract when we receive the credit from the manufacturer. The member did not buy the extended warranty. We as a service provider for Lennox bought the extended warranty and included it in his HVAC purchase. The member does not want any extended warranty regardless if he bought it or not. We have canceled his maintenance contract and extended warranty as per his request. We are crediting his extended warranty as per his request. This matter is resolved.

Not quite sure what I paid for, and probably wouldn't use them in the future
Description of Work: The technician checked the furnace but didn't do any cleaning, which is one of the reasons I wanted the service. He couldn't check the a/c, because it was too cold and they were supposed to send someone out to replace a chimney cap, but they said the appointment.....''fell through the cracks'', at which time I was told he would be out the next day. Hasn't shown up yet!

I HAD MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE BOTH OUR AIR CONDITIONER AND FURNACE SERVICED (FOR A YEARLY CHECK-UP). SINCE THERE WERE TWO ITEMS TO BE CHECKED, THERE WERE NO OPEN APPOINTMENTS FOR THREE WEEKS (THAT WERE OUTSIDE OF 9-5, AS IT WAS, 4 PM WAS THE LATEST I COULD GET ON A WEEKNIGHT FOR THE TWO HOUR APPOINTMENT). WHEN THE TECHNICIAN ARRIVED, HE EXPLAINED THAT YOU CAN'T REALLY CHECK A FURNACE IN JULY (SINCE IT HAS NOT BEEN USED REGULARLY RECENTLY) SO THE SCHEDULER SHOULD NEVER HAVE MADE THE APPOINTMENT. SALES FORCE WAS FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS WITH NO PRESSURE, WHICH I REALLY LIKED IN COMPARISON TO SOME OF THE OTHERS OUT THERE. THE HINT, DON'T WAIT UNTIL A HOT SUMMER DAY TO GET THIS DONE, AS TIME CONSTRAINTS LIMIT CHOICES, AND LIMITS THE ABILITY TO SAY NO TO 'CHANGES' DURING THE INSTALLATION. IF I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS IN APRIL, I WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE INCLINED TO FIGHT FOR MY PLENUM.
Description of Work: REPLACED A/C AND FURNACE. ONE OF THE SALES POINTS WAS THAT I WOULD GET A NEW PLENUM. CAME TO FIND OUT DURING THE INSTALLATION THAT THEY DECIDED THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A NEW PLENUM, AND WOULD INSTEAD, USE A SHEET METAL SURROUND. GAVE $75 OFF FOR IT WHEN THE WORKER SAID IT WOULD COST THEM $300 IN LABOR MORE FOR IT. THE A/C DID NOT COME WITH A NAME PLATE ON IT, CALLED THREE TIMES REQUESTING IT, STILL DO NOT HAVE ONE. I ALSO BOUGHT THE 'VARIABLE SPEED' FURNACE. IT WAS NOT 'SETUP' CORRECTLY. IT WAS ALWAYS BLOWING FULL SPEED. HAD TO HAVE SOME ONE COME OUT AND FIX IT, WHICH THEY DID WITH NO PROBLEM, BUT THAT TOOK 3 WEEKS. THEY ALSO FOR SOME REASON DID NOT HOOK THE FREON TUBE TO THE BASEMENT CEILING, JUST LEFT IT HANGING. CALLED, AND THEY CAME AND 'FIXED' IT, BY ADDING ONE HANGER. WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEEN 4 OR 5. PERHAPS I EXPECT TOO MUCH, BUT I BELIEVE WE PAY PROFESSIONALS TO DO THINGS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. GOOD WARRANTY THOUGH, SO WE ARE IN PARTNERSHIP FOR 10 YEARS. HAVE HIGH HOPES.
